You can always wear it forward (I would do this for chest dips) but I never found it to strain my mid or lower back while using a backpack for pullups. Its still your lats doing the vertical movement so where the weight is specifically on you has little to no impact. I prefer backpack over belt but belt can probably handle more (I never made it past 75 lb weight on it)
