Hello Seddit, I've noticed the frequent encouragement to act with self-amusement in front of women, yet no opposition to this idea.

I'd like to play devil's advocate for a moment, even though I completey agree self-amusement attracts women. Thing is, I imagine too many guys read these posts and believe if they act like that, they will come off as more attractive.

As someone in a perpetual, high-stress environment, I see self-amusement as a reaction, not an action. I do it as a barometer for my own emotional state. If there is nothing to react to, then I believe you are forcing it. It's disgenuine if you do it for attraction. But the thing that really gets me is that self-amusement as an action is still effective as long as you have some acting skill--I do it myself. My belief is this is destructive to men who buy into it. It's unhealthy in the long term.

It comes down to being genuine versus not. As popular as Mark Manson is, he is right. The result precludes actual growth.
