You might have experienced this before by accident or you may know how to do it on command. I want to learn to do it consistently whenever I want to.

Most of the time I will be talking to a friend or a group of people and normally in this situation, people will be at various levels of attention. Some will be checking their phone or being generally distracted, some might be actually listening and engaged in the conversation to an extent.

But occasionally, I will start talking to a friend or the group and as if I was just saying the most important thing in the world, the friend is giving me 100% of their undivided attention. In a group, everybody suddenly turns their bodies to me and they don't make a sound while they listen intently. If I am in a room full of people talking to a single person, the ENTIRE room goes silent and stops their conversation and listens in. The one time I did this, it was so foreign to me, I stopped talking looked around and joked why everybody went silent.

This type of situation has only happened to me a couple times in my life (all recently) and I want to find out the exact way to trigger it. I know already that it has to do with the so called Reticular Activating System as seen on RSD, value, vocal tonality and pacing, body language and how passionate or interested I am in the subject matter.

I find this type of situation just happens randomly and more often than not I find myself getting talked over in many situations when several people are engaged in a conversation.

Examples similar to the effect I am talking about:

  • Attractive girl walks into a room, everybody stops and looks, the same situation with an unattractive girl would be ignored.
  • Some source of extremely high value or absurdity passes and grabs attention, something mundane or normal simply gets blurred into the background.
  • Loud noises that make people immediately wonder what it is and stop what they are doing

How the hell do I make everybody's "Reticular Activating System" spike and listen to me with their undivided attention on command? I don't really need to play up how powerful this could be.
