So today I got on the bus to go home from university, and (by chance) sat across from this really cute girl who was already on the bus. She was wearing my school's colours, so I knew right away that she went to the same uni as me. I probably could have used this as an opener, but she was with her friend and I didn't want to interject.

However, as the bus took us both towards our destination, I could tell she was into me. She had stopped talking to her friend by now and had put her headphones in, but she was making heavy eye contact. She was on her phone, and I think she was texting her friend about me because she would look at me, then look down at her phone and smile as she typed. Her friend would then look at HER phone, and giggle. This happened multiple times throughout the bus ride.

I didn't want to talk to her on the bus, since if she rejected me for whatever reason, there would be nowhere for either of us to go and it would be fucking awkward. So, I decided I would wait until I got off the bus, and I would tell her, just as I was about to get off, that I thought she was really cute and she should add me on snapchat/give me her number. It was foolproof - if she rejected me, I'd just get off the bus and never see her again.

Now, heres where I fucked up -- as the bus got closer to my stop, I got more and more nervous about what I had planned to do. I had butterflies in my stomach and my heart was pounding. I knew that if I tried to talk to her, my voice would be shaky and I would fumble my words. I got so nervous that I abandoned my plan and walked straight off the bus without saying a word to her. She kept looking at me until I actually got off.

Guys, this was the closest I've ever been to a cold approach and I blew it. I had everything going for me - this girl was like an 8 at LEAST and I could tell she was into me!! My question is:

How the fuck do I calm myself down so that I can be confident in my approach??

I don't think my problem was outcome dependency - if she had said no while I was getting off the bus then I would have just gotten off and went on with my day. I'm convinced that she would have responded positively If I had just worked up the balls to ask her, but my beating heart and shaky voice got in the way of my plan and I pussied out. I'll probably never see her again, unless by some MIRACLE I see her around on campus.

TL;DR - Cute girl on bus, planned to ask for snapchat as I got to my stop, got WAY too nervous as we neared my stop and I abandoned my plan and got off the bus without saying a word. Looking for ways to calm myself down if I'm ever in another similar situation.
