I had a first date last night with a cute blonde I met at a bar a week ago. Hb8. She was in a a mixed set of three or four. It's not important. All of us had been drinking for a while (st. Patties day). I approached her while a friend talked to the rest of the crowd. Chatted her up for a bit, sat down with her, chatted some more, and got her phone number, and left pretty soon after. She text me the next night, saying it was nice meeting me, etc. I asked her out for a drink, she said ok.
I was super confident, perhaps too confident. The date went well untill the last 5 minutes. We sat at a table outside at a bar. Great date spot. Had one bottle of wine and about two hours of good convo. The problem was we were sitting at a table across from one another, And it was hard to make any kind of physical contact. But lots of eye contact, smiling, laughing, etc. Then I went to the restroom for 2 minutes. This is where I probably should have made my closing plan. But, of course, I didn't. I came back, and it was time to go ( bar was closing). We were the only people left at the bar, aside from some bartenders and waiters sitting next to us. This is where it fell apart. I definitely assumed that she was expecting to kiss me. So I took her a distance away from the waiters, and said good bye. She hugged me and I tried to kiss her, she turned away. I turned with. No luck. I was confused. I said "what, what's wrong?". She said "nothing, let's go out next weekend." I said ok. I dont know if ill ever see her again. I mean I haven't been on that many first dates. But 80% of them end in a kiss. What did I do wrong? No escalation? I guess I should have built more physical comfort before going in for the kiss. I feel like I offended her. What do you guys normally do before going in for a first kiss at the end of a date? I should have planned it a little more. Did I not flirt enough? Most of the convo was just rapport building.

Additional info: I'm a good looking, interesting guy, but never had a gf. 25yrs old. Washington DC Area.
