My mom jokes about that too, lol! I'm glad to hear things are going well for your daughter. Do you have any advice for identifying the guys who want a real relationship from the guys who just want to get in your pants? I'd love to find a good man wherever possible, but I'm wary of falling for that kind of thing.

That's exactly what I mean! I'm so happy to hear that your time was successful, that's what I hope for. I'll have to check out Mrs. Midwest, thank you! Ooo I hadn't even considered a new hobby, I've got loads of stuff I want to try. Do you mind if I DM you later if I have more questions?

Thank you for the heads-up! Can I ask how you met your husband? Did you meet in the military? I'll be checking out the book, thank you for mentioning it! That's what I'm hoping to happen, that I spend this time focusing on myself and that will put me in a position to find good men.

That's an interesting thought! I've described myself before as personally conservative but socially liberal. I hold strongly to certain liberal beliefs, but I do see the value in a lot of conservative beliefs too

Yup, that was what I was told about. However I had another former acquaintance of his tell me today that two girls told him that this guy had hit on them at a party, when they were in relationships and had told him they weren't interested. And I know the rumor mill is full of shit but now I'm wondering if there's more I don't know about? But here's the thing. The other day, he was drunk off his ass at a party and pulled me in by my belt loops, but then paused and asked if I was ok with that. So …

Yeah, I think this had the potential to be a very ugly situation, but fortunately it seems like the reality is fairly mild. And in pretty much all other ways, he's exactly what I'm looking for. Attentive, smart, kind. He's the guy who checks up on everybody at parties to make sure they're good, which is why I was really shocked to hear about all of this. He seems genuinely remorseful about the past, and has taken steps to correct his behavior. I'll of course continue to watch him, but I agree wi…

Yeah, I think this was a lot more dramatic than it needed to be. A good reminder for me to ask what happened instead of listening to vague rumours, I guess. I will definitely make sure to communicate my boundaries. He's been very respectful so far, and I'll keep an eye on it. This is a sidenote, but I just wanted to thank you for your advice. I really admire how you try to be fair to everybody in a situation, including the guys (in general comments, not just on my post). I work on being fair and…

See, that's what I thought too. Until I got clarification on the situation, all I was getting were vague warnings from people that he'd made girls uncomfortable before. So I was pretty unsettled by that. Nobody said that he'd potentially assaulted somebody (my bad for implying that, I think I was freaking out), but the mystery in what "uncomfortable" meant significantly concerned me. Like I said, I think his explanation sounds plausible, particularly in light of how he's treated me. Do you think…

I wasn't trying to be vague, that was what he told me. I asked him to clarify more about it in a second conversation, and he told me that they were cuddling and making out a bit, she asked "what are we", he said he wasn't looking for anything relationship wise, she said "I'm not that kind of girl," and they continued for a little longer until she said she wanted to leave. And he didn't wait with her outside for her ride to arrive. He said he didn't feel he'd been pushy until they talked the next…

Yes, all the advice was a good reality check. I had taken the rumours at face value, and it helped having commenters point out that rumours get twisted and that I should judge him based on the behavior I’ve seen. I also questioned the motivation of the friend who told me; I hadn't thought about that prior to people commenting about it. Since it came out that he was being overly cautious to try not to piss off my sister, rather than being significantly worried about my wellbeing, that was good in…

It's not that I'm unaware that people lie or pass on bad information, but I found out that my ex was talking with other girls via the "rumour mill." So given that my previous experience was accurate, I'll admit I jumped to the conclusion that this must be too. That's a reassuring story! I'm really hoping this is a case of information being twisted. And I'm very glad your friend and her husband worked out!

That's true, I don't want to be the kind of person who judges people on rumors or heresay. I think I'll bring it up to him at some point, because I'm not good at letting things lie, and I think it's only fair he gets the chance to defend himself. But yeah, now that I've settled I don't think the situation is as bad as I was freaking out about yesterday.

The mutual friend already has a girlfriend, so I don't think so? And yeah that's a good point, she might have told him already. I asked her to keep it between us, but who knows

I wouldn't call that creepy! Don't pull out a notebook and start scribbling while staring intently at people lol. But I don't see anything wrong with taking notes on outfit ideas. It also doesn't have to be crazy, it could just be "snug baby pink turtleneck with flowy camel midi skirt and nude kitten heels". I sometimes mentally take notes of people's outfit and look them up later if I want to buy something similar.

The post is interesting, thank you for linking it. It's a bit painful to read because I don't want to think about sex as a test right now, it was supposed to be something special, but when I'm more healed I will try to revisit it. He was four years older than me, but I do think he was very immature. He was also a liar and a hypocrite, and that's not just me being an angry ex, his behavior spoke for itself and I just ignored it because I liked him so much. I don't think he set out to have sex and…

I don't think I'd consider this assault, just majorly shitty. But thank you for caring, it helps knowing i'm not alone in my anger

In a twisted way, it makes me feel better to know I'm not alone. And your roommate? Yup. My ex read the Bible with me too. "As time went on I realized however I was just normal girl with innocent intentions falling for the guy I was in love with who told me everything I wanted to hear." That's a very powerful sentence to me. He made me feel more beautiful than I've ever felt, he called me beautiful, said he wanted to take care of me and keep me safe. I think I need to work on forgiving myself. I…

Yeah. I repressed the hell out of my anger and hurt, and I'm probably still suppressing some of it because it keeps coming up and surprising me. But I'm trying really hard to let myself process. I think part of it is he's known as a "good christian guy" and everybody still sees him as that. And I know that that's such a fucking lie. He told me he wanted to wait for marriage too, guess I should've known that was a lie the literal first time he brought it up. That's why I want to be done with this…

Ha! No need to apologize for language, I appreciate you saying it. I just wish I was through it already

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
