And if anyone is making a straw man argument, it would be the person who's trying to make a point (at least I'm assuming that's what you think you're doing) based on what may have happened or be happening (meaning, you're arguing against FBI data that states women are raped more often than men, based on the unknown number of men who are raped but don't report it). The guy is a really good guy and despite what happened, he actually did want to know his daughter (in fact, when he turned 18, he fought for custody, but couldn't afford to continue fighting after the first 6 months or so).
