Family love is not automatically unconditional. Nor do I want their toxic fake ass "love." The only person who should love you unconditionally is yourself.

Thanks for sharing and to everyone else here. This post hit me just right. I was a broken man a year ago. I've struggled with anxiety and depression and self hate my whole life. I finally started to fix that. It took me to such depths that I wanted to give up often. I've spent the last couple years doing that hard work of healing and evolving. This past week I finally started to believe I have changed. The things I have learned here in this sub have helped me make these changes. I just had one o…

It's true. I had a friend tell me this once and it helped change my mindset. My lack of confidence and self worth came from a childhood made to feel that way. All my life I hated myself and thought I was worthless. It's hard to break out of but I'm working on it. I cut out my toxic family. I put effort into healing and confronting my past. I always knew I wasn't ugly but I'm starting to accept I'm actually attractive. For me it all comes down to doing the hard internal work. Changing mindsets, i…

My ltr and I broke up right before quarantine. I was battling some heavy personal things at the time. So after we split I was stuck in my apartment outside of work. It wasn't easy, any of it. Where I live is almost entirely based on tourism. Even dating apps were more useless than normal. It's felt like a ghost town since March. So I took it as an opportunity to really commit to focusing on myself. Learning to live with that much silence and solitude. I know girls can come and go but I've never …

Good stuff. Most of the greatest athletes take their anger and turn it into the stuff of legends. Growing up in New England, I was amazed that people never learned to stop writing off Tom Brady. Everytime he was written off, he remembered what was said about him. He didn't respond directly to it but he took that anger as motivation. That is his fuel. Love him or hate him, the man harnesses what makes others weak and uses it to make himself stronger. I've carried a lot of anger my whole life from…

For me it was just waking up finally. I spent too much of my life afraid and eventually I realized, for what? I'm at my peek now. I just do what I want with my time. If girls are a part of that, great. If not, that's also great. Once you let go and just enjoy yourself first the rest falls into place. Age does bring perspective but if you haven't learned from your past, nothing will change. It does take work to reach this point but when you do, you realize what a joke it all is and just have fun …

Sometimes, yeah. Living the truth is certainly much harder and takes a toll. But it helps keep us safe. It takes work to find the good things in life. I just remember how I felt during those days. I've had a lot of work to do on myself and that's still my focus. As hard as all this can be I know I'm a better man because of it.

Same. My best friend turned me onto red pill after my bpd ex experience. That was a doozy. Thankful for the experience. It helped me find a better path.

I was manipulated by my mother most of my life. It damaged my ability for relationships to staggering degrees. Especially my relationship with myself. But instead of running from it, one day I decided to face it. You can't conquer something if you only let it damage you. Therapy is essential. Don't be ashamed, you're trying to be better. It takes time. This path is much harder but it brings more rewards.

Yep. Dating a bpd girl was the start of my awakening journey and lead me here. It's amazing when it's good. Once that stage ends, oh boy. Buckle up.

Keep it up, man! Progress is a slow and steady path. You're going in the right direction. Be proud of yourself and keep improving every day. Everyone has their own struggles to face and conquer. My mother was abusive as well so I feel your pain. I buried that shit deep most of my life until I was tired of getting the same results. Then I finally looked inward and faced the shit that hurt too much to think about. I stopped the constant distractions of video games, getting high, not exercising, et…

Just talk about whatever you want within the appropriate boundaries of the situation. Confidence is just believing in what you're doing. So don't be fake, don't talk about things you don't know. Ask questions, turn it on them, make them talk so you appear more curious than attention seeking. Stand out by just being yourself, always.

I didn't even mention the part where my dog of 10 years died suddenly from cancer during the same period. Family, dog, gf all gone in a blink of an eye. I miss my dog the most. Hit rock bottom for sure. But it's only making me stronger and wiser 😎 What is left to be afraid of? There is only one thing that can stand in my way- myself. I'm choosing to move forward. I'm not defined by my past or where I came from.

Thank you, it means a lot. I went NC with my entire family after this process. I'm much happier in that aspect of my life. They are all toxic and abusive. Hence why I end up in toxic relationships as an adult. My focus is on correcting this. My ex has her own unhealthy patterns and behaviors she continues to ignore. I can see them more clearly as time passes. I know in the long run I am better off.

Yep. My gf of over 2 years broke up with me when I faced my childhood trauma. We were best friends, great sex, traveled the world together, but this event shook me hard. I just needed to heal and have some support but that was too much for her. Then the way she treated me in the end, it became a blessing that we split. Now I know she's not someone I want to be with anyways. It's hard to watch that change take place and see them become so cold. She projects her anger to justify her shitty behavio…

Yooo I was just walking home and was thinking the exact same thing. I realized a few things I would have done differently throughout my day and felt embarrassed at first. Then I thought about why I felt embarrassed and it was because I was being genuine, honest with who I am and where I am. Just being real made me feel anxious but realizing that I felt proud of myself for just being me. For not caring about others opinions or how I could have come across.

I love this response. This is exactly what I've been realizing with some time away from my last relationship.

I think this is a great answer. I lost my gf few months ago after going thru some really personal traumatic experiences. I got really depressed and uninterested in life for a few months. We dated 2 years and she left when things for shitty. We hung out here and there after but I was still coming out of the fog and selfishly wanted to rush and fix things, whatever the hell that means. I lost my confidence and swagger and with it her attraction to me. I became too needy because I didn't want to lo…

I'm at a weird cross roads in my life. I don't know what my dreams are anymore. I'm trying to heal from my traumas. I feel stuck in that. I know I need to take the next step I'm just not sure yet what it is.

I'm so glad you made this post. I just got out of a 3 year LTR. A few months after we started hanging out her dad died suddenly. Her parents divorced when she was like 6. Her mom remarried and had another daughter about 18 years younger than my ex. So she didn't have her dad around much growing up and was pretty much replaced in her mom's family. She was recently divorced and started dating when we met. She was seeing a couple guys as well as myself. One guy was her main. She would tell me how h…

Thank you for this comment as well as OPs post. I've been digging deep into improving myself past couple years. I faced my childhood trauma last year and cut out my entire family. It was a very difficult experience and I learned a lot about myself. Reliving all that, I fell back to some old mindsets and behaviors and lost my frame. My LTR of 3 years broke up with me as I was deep in the depression. Then she wanted to keep me around just in case. After we split I realized I'm just wasting time re…

I hate that you're right. My LTR of almost 3 years broke up with me in February. I faced my childhood trauma, abusive mother and family etc. Stuff I buried my whole life. 2 weeks after realizing this my dog of 10 years got cancer and died 3 weeks later. He was my best friend, always by my side. Combination of losing my entire family and dog so suddenly took me to some dark places as I unpacked all my pain and trauma. I lost frame, lost my confidence, lost myself for a few months. She stood by at…

I cut out my family to start this year. I haven't lived with or near them in a while so it was easier. But if they are negatively affecting your life you should consider moving on. You don't owe them anything just because they are family. If they don't treat you right, that's their loss.

Needed this. I've recognized my reactions to things contributes to my problems. I have started meditating and working on stoicism. It is a difficult challenge but it actually pays off. It helps still that anxiety that likes to suddenly rise up out of nowhere and try to take control of me. Thinking about this in terms of the two arrows is really awesome. Great metaphor. Once we realize how much we actually contribute to the negative energy in our own life we can begin to correct it.
