Cultish thinking and bizarre conspiratorial/fringe beliefs are fascinating to me

Where your assumption is wrong is assuming that every single woman can find a "beta bux". Go to any shitty store that pays minimum wage and see how many women are working there. They aren't doing it because it's fun.
/r/PurplePillDebate24/06/16 09:08 PM

Again, the very name of the subreddit is an indication that the vast majority of the rest of the world disagrees. I don't even have to make the argument -- you folks have already made it for me.
/r/PurplePillDebate17/06/16 04:26 PM

Only if they generalize their personal experience to the entire human condition. There are far more than 160,000 people who disagree with you -- which is why your shitty sub is a Matrix reference to some secret hidden truth that nobody else knows about.
/r/PurplePillDebate17/06/16 04:23 PM

Again you are taking your experience and thinking it's universal From the OP: my experiences and conclusions are representative of everyone's experiences and conclusions That's exactly what you are doing here

I'm describing all women. Not just the ones I attract. You missed the point of this entire thread. You think you're describing all women, because you think your individual experience is universal.

Raising a child isn't supposed to be a quid pro quo arrangement
/r/PurplePillDebate07/06/16 10:18 AM
1

whats the difference between those options and men wanting to be able to have some sort of opt out clause? The fact that it's the woman's body who must carry the child to term for 9 months. For a sub that preaches so much about "biology" it's really amazing how this obvious truth is so missed.

The problem is the autistic manchildren who frequent TRP read these things and put all these "tools" together into one big abusive mess.

Your entire argument is a square pipe dream you desperately want to fit into the round hole This is really ironic because it seems you are desperate to fit this story into your preconceived narrative. the amount of women who would love him vs the amount of women who'd dislike him is not in your favour That's fine, nobody is saying otherwise. It's not hard for me to accept that different women have different preferences.
/r/PurplePillDebate06/06/16 07:37 AM

Your entire argument is contradictory First you say "don't listen to what they say, listen to what they do". Then when it's brought up what she did, you just say we can't know what she was thinking. Even though she voiced what she was thinking, and it coincides with her actions.
/r/PurplePillDebate05/06/16 11:05 PM

Her voicing that she doesn't like ripped guys, and dumping guys who got ripped, are both caused by the same underlying truth: that she didn't like ripped guys She did exactly what she said

The problem is TRP purports to be a system that is true for everyone, and when it fails to work it's because you didn't do it right or whatever. It's the same kind of circular logic that all bullshit systems of belief push. If God doesn't answer your prayers, it's because you weren't pious enough.
/r/PurplePillDebate10/05/16 11:37 AM

In terms of TRP though, the guys who come to it were obviously not having any success under their own belief system (the blue pill) so they're usually more keen to make the change. This is a false dichotomy. There are all different kinds of belief systems outside of TRP that people have that influence how they interact with others. The difficult thing is that building emotional intelligence, being self-aware, being honest with oneself about your wants & preferences, what things make another pers…

And if the entire underlying philosophy on which he is basing the analysis is wrong? As an analogy, if a tarot card reading gives bad information, the problem there isn't that the card reader analyzed the cards improperly.

Except the divorce rate today is only about 25% and that number is itself inflated by individuals who get married and divorced multiple times. A large majority of people stay with their partners without ever having heard of TRP.

It is a recipe for men to end up in a series of shallow, unfulfilling relationships where they will never have a real deep connection to their partners. And if they follow this path for their whole lives, they will die unhappy and alone.

Do you pick up a book, and then assume something terrible about it, and then demand that other people "establish that it's not terrible" - because that's just ridiculous. That's not how stuff works. That only shows that you didn't start with an open mind, and you didn't assume good faith. No, I read it and then decide it's terrible, as I have with TRP. Your whole argument here just isn't as clever as you think it is, it's entirely irrelevant.
/r/PurplePillDebate15/04/16 01:19 PM
1

my point here is that it's actually different from what you imagine when you read TRP Which is irrelevant given you haven't established that what TRP actually is about is not reprehrensible. Does it really matter if something is legitimately terrible, and people think it's a little more terrible than it actually is? You're not offering an actual defense of anything. So let me get this straight, you noticed a contradiction between something I said, and something someone else said? Seems there's a…

A sales kiosk in a mall is not really the same as a private situation in which women are pressured to "consent" to angry men. TRP's conception of LMR is basically the DENNIS system. I also noticed this contradiction in your post: "Last-minute resistance" is the idea that someone will seem to consent, then at the last minute, they'll have second thoughts, and perhaps even outright say "no." and then... if she says 'no, stop it' that's a hard no and of course you stop

It seems most of your opinions are based on cherry picking anecdotes and experiences, and simply ignoring any counterexamples, so I don't think any further responses from me will be fruitful. The article actually says cases where it's a stranger are the ones that are more often tested, and much of the backlog is cases where the attacker is a friend or partner. From the article: More recently, however, because testing one rape kit costs between $500 and $1,500, police departments don’t test every rape kit that comes their way. “Some only pursue the ones they have the best chance of solving,” Berkowitz said. “Others only test if the alleged rapist is a stranger.” The rationale in those…

There are more than 400,000 untested rape kits currently sitting in police storage. How you think the system works is nowhere near reality.
/r/PurplePillDebate13/12/15 04:37 PM

Except hundreds of thousands of rape kits go untested due to lack of funding for crime labs. This is one reason the rate of conviction for rape is so low. Only about 1 in 4 reports leads to an arrest, and of those arrested only 1 in 4 actually gets convicted. As of last year there were more than 400,000 untested rape kits sitting in police storage.

Not sure you can call that "doxxing" -- he got a permit from a government which is a matter of public record and then posted pictures of it himself. And he actually raised a bunch of money due to the backlash. I will give you that the media response was very different though. As an aside I actually support the type of conservation efforts that give out permits like the one Palmer had. I listened to a Radiolab story about this type of conservation and why it's done and it was very enlightening.

Or they start a GoFundMe and raise thousands of dollars from other reactionary white people. Can you give an example of someone being doxxed as you describe? The only one I can think of is that violentacrez guy who was doxxed for being a massive troll and encouraging illegal creepshots and pedophilia. And even then he had thousands of dollars given to him. I guess you could say he was doxxed for an unpopular opinion, but I don't think that's really comparable.

Of course, there are many different factors that lead to increased criminality. Nobody is arguing otherwise. Kids from single parent households commit significantly more crime (note: boys who grow up in single father households also commit way more crimes, not just single motherhouseholds -- it's just that single mothers are far more common). Kids who were abused commit more crime. Kids with low socioeconomic status commit more crime. There are many other factors that lead into this. But even af…

I take it you are a criminal law expert and are familiar with all the ways culture influences crime rates. I guess crime is 100% explained by family history - - which of course is totally disconnected from wider culture as well. Say, why do you think men in the South commit so much more violent crime than the rest of the country? Are Southern men just abused a lot more?
/r/PurplePillDebate09/11/15 03:19 PM

Funny you use that example as most state bars at the time did not admit women and neither did most law schools. The first woman was not admitted to a state bar until 1869. In 1872 the Supreme Court upheld state regulations which prohibited women from being admitted. Where'd you read Elizabeth Cady Stanton was a lawyer? I can't find anything suggesting she even went to a law school.

Obviously there are more authors criticizing the traditional family because being unhappy with that lifestyle is the big spark behind the early feminist movement. For example Betty Friedan is quoted in that article - - the whole reason she wrote The Feminine Mystique was from discovering how many women she went to college with were unhappy with their lives as housewives. And for some of those older quotes, women having careers and owning property was literally illegal when some of those things w…

Men are significantly more likely to engage in all different forms of violent crime regardless of abuse. I don't think anybody was arguing women don't commit any crimes, just the vast majority are by men and that culture can explain part of this.
/r/PurplePillDebate09/11/15 02:50 PM

Do you mean articles telling women they should all be housewives, or simply articles respecting women's choices to build families as they want? I don't want to bother getting quotes if I don't know where your goalposts are beforehand.

When did western society cease to be patriarchal? I think we can agree that it at least used to be in recent history. Wasn't too long ago that spousal rape was not a crime, not long before that women couldn't vote, and not long before that they couldn't even own property. Men did control everything. Obviously legally this has changed but ingrained cultural mores don't change instantly with the law (as an analogy, racism didn't end when the Civil Rights Act was passed). When do you think patriarc…

Gender roles are imposed on men too. Fag, queer, sissy, bitch, pussy - - these are all insults used against men who don't fulfill their gender role.
/r/PurplePillDebate09/11/15 02:19 PM
3

That's a bunch of cherry picking, I could write an article with feminist authors making the opposite argument. Some of those quotes also seem to be out of context where they seem to be describing other people's ideology. "Feminism" is not a singular ideology and these discussions are never fruitful when we've got both sides essentially making "no true Scotsman" arguments.
/r/PurplePillDebate09/11/15 02:16 PM
1

Your examples are cases where women are not bound by femininity, not cases where they change what femininity is. One of the big points of feminism is allowing women to break free of traditional gender roles. They aren't changing what those traditions are, but creating space for people to live outside of them.
/r/PurplePillDebate09/11/15 02:13 PM

I was more referring to things like "overcoming last minute resistance" (aka rape) and "dread game" (aka emotional abuse). It's also funny you justify your admittedly immoral teachings by pointing at women. They're to blame for everything. LOL
/r/PurplePillDebate06/11/15 05:25 PM

It shows the "amoral" cover is just a lazy avoidance of the deep immorality of what's encouraged there. There's a very obvious moral component to it, which is why these topics come up regularly, but you can all claim it's amoral whenever called out on it. It's a nice way to square the circle of cognitive dissonance. And saying not backed by science and bad science are basically the same thing. As far as I know California is the only state with this law, and it only applies to campus tribunals, not courts of law. While I think campus tribunals are not the appropriate places to deal with rape claims, and there are a few stories of what likely are wrongful expulsions, it's a far cry from claiming that assumption of innocence in rape cases has been revoked in actual criminal cases.
/r/PurplePillDebate28/10/15 02:31 PM

As I understand it the University tribunals go by a preponderance of evidence standard - - not revocation of assumption of innocence.
/r/PurplePillDebate28/10/15 12:27 AM

The law she's talking about doesn't amount to removing the assumption of innocence in a court of law. As it notes this has been on the books in Canada since 1992. Is there an epidemic of Canadians being imprisoned by false rape claims? I think you're misconstruing the intent and effect of the law being referenced in that article.

My point was if you're going to rule people out entirely based on single attributes like this, you're unlikely to find anybody, because nobody is likely to meet 100% of your preferences.

From what I've gathered reading TRP, "bad" and "fucking horrible" is pretty much 100% of women

It also reduces the pool of "good women" to choose from. You're not increasing your chances if you're reducing what you count as "qualified" too much.

I don't think indifference is worse than active hatred. People who get violent because of this are far from the norm. Even with the significant increase in these lone shooter events, it's still only a handful of people a year out of millions People who are actively bullied get depressed and commit suicide, far more common than insane killers
/r/PurplePillDebate13/10/15 08:10 PM

Well you're not insane so of course you can't totally understand That's what /u/Hellkyte is getting at. If someone can "totally understand" that might indicate something is off with them

/r/PurplePillDebate08/10/15 03:18 PM

I think someone willing to falsely accuse someone of rape meets most people's colloquial definition of "crazy". I know if I heard that about somebody my first thought would be "wow what a crazy bitch". But as you just showed the vast majority don't have any identifiable issues.
/r/PurplePillDebate08/10/15 02:54 PM

Again, the point I'm making is there's a difference between the colloquial usage of "crazy" and a "mental health problem identified by a medical assessor"
/r/PurplePillDebate08/10/15 02:04 PM

People have been railing against "feminazis" for decades now. Is it really universally seen as good? In my experience people generally see feminism as bra burning radicals these days

I think it's important to point out that the vast majority of rapes aren't random stranger attacks like described in the OP. Carrying pepper spray and staying in well-lit areas doesn't make a difference in most rape cases because that's not how most rapes happen. Most rapes are committed by friends, romantic partners and friends or acquaintances. So when people talk about the sorts of things like OP does as "obvious" protective measures, they're actually next to useless in most cases.

Whenever you have a non-random sample you almost always get some sort of bias. I would hazard a guess that people who come to a debate sub are more open minded and less dogmatic than others, so in general we're going to get less radicalized posters here.

By the way, the guy in the video chanting about rape has been accused of rape, although charges were dropped because of insufficient evidence (rapes typically have little or no evidence aside from one's word, due to the nature of the act). Probably a coincidence though, I'm sure.

What are you talking about? Martial rape? Marital rape, rape of ethnic minorities, and non-penetrative rape mostly. On top of this, until recently rapes generally went unprosecuted or the aggressors were acquitted on the reasoning that the woman wanted it for the most dubious of reasons (there are even cases where men were acquitted of rape because the woman agreed to walk down the street with him -- proof positive she wanted it all along). Often a successful defense could be made based simply o…

There wasn't a law on the book, that's my point. Feminists had to fight to get a law passed against marital rape. It wasn't until 1993 that all 50 states had it outlawed. In many cases, activists were unsuccessful in getting the law changed through the legislative process and had to rely on courts to strike down exemptions. This isn't archaic stuff. And the idea that married women can't be raped is an idea I've seen espoused on TRP multiple times -- by moderators and endorsed contributors. I don…

It's about equality for women, so that's what they focus on. I wish there were a similar movement for men, but unfortunately the main focus of men's rights activism seems to be just bitching about feminism. I tried to get involved in it before, but nobody cared when I tried to talk about the lack of focus on rape against men, how traditional masculinity shames men who don't fit into masculine gender roles, etc. Everybody just wanted to talk about how unfair their alimony payments are. Marital rape wasn't even made illegal until a few decades ago. If you don't believe there's any remnants of rape culture, when do you think it ended? We still have frat bros who go around chanting about raping bitches, and most rapes go unresolved.

This thread shows there's a significant portion of the community on TBP who thinks virgin shaming is wrong: https://www.reddit.com/r/TheBluePill/comments/36il1o/apparently_we_all_condone_shaming_people_for/?ref=search_posts So while you'll see virgin shaming posts from time to time, I don't think it's accurate to portray everyone that way. On the other hand, it is part of TRP dogma that part of a man's worth is measured by his sexual prowess, and this is part and parcel of being "alpha".

/r/PurplePillDebate15/09/15 07:32 PM

I didn't see "why are people so extreme" as a question in there. Are you sure you read it yourself? Though this thread does answer one of OP's questions - - people are not willing to debate these absurdities and TRPers will only keep circlejerking.
/r/PurplePillDebate15/09/15 04:32 PM
1

I don't see any question marks in OP's title nor an indication in the post that he's looking for reasons why they're so extreme. I also think you're misrepresenting Archwinger's response, which essentially amounted to "stop caring". There was no comparison to any other ideology that I can see. Even if he was making the argument you're describing here, the idea that TRP is similarly extreme to most other groups I think is highly inaccurate.
/r/PurplePillDebate15/09/15 03:45 PM

OP wasn't asking a question, he was making an assertion. Responses to CMV threads are supposed to discredit OP's argument to change his view, not change the topic entirely and question OP's motivation.

3

I answered your question, how about answering mine?
/r/PurplePillDebate15/09/15 02:00 PM
1

What's not logical about it? Sociopaths don't feel empathy, moral arguments often rely on empathy, TRP teaches sociopathic tendencies, therefore moral arguments are unlikely to be effective for TRP dogmatists. Conclusion drawn directly from premises which can be defended with evidence. Are you sure you actually know how logic works, or do you just accuse people of being irrational as soon as you disagree with them?
/r/PurplePillDebate15/09/15 01:29 PM
12

Because I think it's actively harmful for a lot of its users as well as the people they'll interact with. I have empathy for these people. Why are you (and just about every other TRP dogmatist on this thread) so keen to change the topic? Why are you here on this thread if you're not going to debate the topic at hand?
/r/PurplePillDebate15/09/15 01:24 PM
1

It's only a weak debating strategy against sociopaths who don't feel things like empathy for others. So I agree it's probably ineffective for most TRP dogmatists. You should also read a lot more philosophy if you think moral arguments are based purely in emotion.
/r/PurplePillDebate15/09/15 01:11 PM

Emotion isn't irrelevant to moral arguments. Emotions like empathy are cornerstones of most moral philosophy.

Your husband is factually wrong, vaccines are very safe and very important to have, both for the health and safety of your children as well as the rest of society. Some people can't receive vaccines because of compromised immune systems or very specific allergies, and it is important that the rest of us be vaccinated to protect them from preventable diseases. The small risk that vaccines pose is nowhere near the risk posed by actually contracting these diseases.
/r/PurplePillDebate13/09/15 07:15 PM

I'm not going to judge your relationship, and I hope you're happy, but I'd say it's reasonable to draw the line on decisions that impact your health. From what I've seen the so called men's rights movement is much more focused on attacking feminism rather than advancing the rights and equal treatment of men. The main thing I see MRA's fighting for is lesser alimony. I have enjoyed /r/MensLib because it doesn't seem to fall under that category.
/r/PurplePillDebate22/08/15 11:59 PM

Feminism is fighting for the rights of women. It doesn't mean they don't believe in equality, but usually advocacy with a narrower focus is more successful. Women didn't get the right to vote by fighting against Jim Crow, blacks didn't win equally rights by standing up for LGBT people, etc. Feminism implies a narrower focus on achieving equality for women.

That is what people are fighting for. Recently a bunch of women went through ranger school, and a few of them made it to the last round before failing to meet standards. /r/PurplePillDebate28/06/15 09:12 PM

Except TRP has no transparent peer review process so your analogy doesn't make any sense. Can someone not make a well supported argument without relying on TRP? You seem to have moved the goalposts here. Peer reviewed journals don't require authors to demonstrate adherence to existing models, just support for your claims. Believe it or not, there are creationists who get published in genetics journals. One does not have to profess belief in or even understanding of evolution to get published.
/r/PurplePillDebate28/06/15 08:51 PM

I'd say it's more like a religion sub that bans people for posting scientific evidence that disproves religious beliefs, with the claim that the poster just doesn't have sufficient knowledge of the religion. It's hilarious you don't see the contradiction in saying that you can "disagree with anything" but then qualify by saying only when it's "consistent with RP". Good rationalization of the echo chamber.
/r/PurplePillDebate28/06/15 07:55 PM

Individual people do things all different kinds of ways. The billions of people belonging to each gender don't collude to all act the same way.

You learned these things naturally, figured out how it worked, and went on your merry way. It sure sounds like the "things" you're talking about are TRP strategies, not something entirely different. Hence the use of "these things".

I'm just trying to figure out what my exact SMV number is and how to determine other people's SMV numbers, to make sure I don't ever trick myself into thinking I'm compatible with somebody with a lower SMV number
/r/PurplePillDebate10/06/15 08:03 PM
-1

That is a valid point. You assume other people's "natural" strategy is the same strategy as TRP, which is inaccurate. You tried to fit somebody else's experience into your own concocted narrative. It's disingenuous. This is why TRP is often called dogmatic, because you will try to warp literally everything to try to fit into the dogma.

The way words are used changes over time. Classical liberalism and modern liberalism are not the same thing. In modern parlance, "liberal" is used how I just used it. What kind of SJW subreddits are you talking about?

Are you sure you aren't just hastily judging people and placing them into that little box? Calling people an SJW for having any kind of liberal belief ever seems to be in vogue these days. Since I've been moderating /r/BlackPeopleTwitter it's been especially hilarious, because some insist the entire subreddit is racist and therefore I'm terrible, while others call us SJWs for banning them for actually being extremely racist. So, apparently I'm a racist and a minstrel, but at the same time an SJW…

What OP is talking about isn't just class-based though. "Cultural Marxism" isn't a real framework, that's my point. It's an invented term by right-wingers to describe an ideology that doesn't exist. There are no "cultural marxist" theorists out there. It's a big straw man, essentially.

Anita Sarkeesian and others like her are the ones spearheading new, "progressive" game design and there's a lot of pressure in the industry to kneel to it. I don't see how that's "infiltrating freedom of expression". Expressing your opinion to try to get other people to agree with you is how free speech works. Under your definition, aren't you infiltrating her freedom of expression? Cultural marxism is implemented particularly in communist countries. It's when a person is reduced to their social…

In economic terms individuals act according to their own self interest and groups in general do not act in a collectively rational manner like you suggest. The individual incentive for women in this world view would be not to have sex

"LTR candidate value" is something you have to determine for yourself, it's not an objective valuation that floats above our heads at all times. Good point. What part of the logic makes no sense? To "con" someone means to deceive them. How can you deceive them if they know exactly what is happening? If I sell you a bottle of snake oil and tell you it's a healing elixir, and you buy it, then I have deceived you. But if I sell you a bottle of snake oil and tell you that it's a bottle of snake oil, and you know full well that it is simply a bottle of snake oil, then you haven't been deceived.

In basketball, yeah. I have found women can be just as good at fishing and gaming though. In general girls don't play as many games so on average probably not as much, but I have some friends who kick ass in Smash. Not that into hiking myself so can't comment on that. I am gay, though, so I don't want to have sex with them. I don't find this interferes with my ability to have platonic friendships with men, though, so I dunno why it would for you and women.

In your example, though: He may regret it later This is an example of someone's short-term goals harming their long-term ones. If they regret it, then it wasn't really improvement, was it? They just misidentified what they really wanted.
/r/PurplePillDebate27/05/15 04:24 PM

I didn't see that argued anywhere in the article. It's just identifying a trend, isn't that what TRP is all about?
/r/PurplePillDebate27/05/15 04:07 PM

In my experience a lot of people have conflicting short-term and long-term goals, and the things they do to fulfill their short-term goals hurt their long-term ones.

Even the drug addict who really wants his next fix sees getting that H and shooting up as improving where he was before hand. He may regret it later, but getting what you want is definitely self improvement. I guess we have conflicting definitions of "improvement". To me that would be an example where somebody gets what they want, but is definitely not improving themselves. "Improve" is a value-laden term and is shifting based on the criteria we use.

What's your point then? You are just throwing out vague bullshit as if it somehow contradicts the statistics in the OP. Do you think that men are not significantly more likely to be murderers in general, and mass murderers in particular?
/r/PurplePillDebate27/05/15 03:08 PM

Cherry-picking stuff from TRP to support whatever conclusions they've come to is what everyone does on this sub. It's really easy because there is often completely contradictory stuff posted to TRP so really you can use it to confirm whatever biases you want. The only consistent theme is that women are inferior to men.
/r/PurplePillDebate27/05/15 03:05 PM

"Getting what you want" doesn't necessarily mean self-improvement. There are many ways to get what you want that include becoming a significantly shittier person.
/r/PurplePillDebate27/05/15 03:00 PM

Why are you assuming that this is true? Remember, more men commit suicide than women too, so you'd have to assume they're blaming themselves in that instance Suicide doesn't necessarily mean blaming one's self. I don't have any problems with people who make the choice to live a certain way. But I also recognize the concept of "choice" can be influenced by many factors outside of our control, so I think we should always examine the social and individual circumstances that lead people to choose certain things. So would you agree that many BluePillers over-react towards the Red Pill, getting their panties in a bunch over things they shouldn't? I think a big reason is a lot of people view libertarianism as basically supporting current power structures (the rich are rich because they deserve it, rampant inequality and discrimination is fine as long as people aren't using overt violence, etc). Only people near the poverty line get access to greater government benefits This is not true, the Earned Income Tax Credit is the biggest form of "welfare" for these families and applies to most middle class families too. You also get standard deductions for each child, which become more lucrative the more money you make (a tax deduction doesn't matter for someone who barely owes any taxes in the first place; but if your top bracket is at 28% that is more significant).

The problem I have with the destruction of gender roles is that the traditional family unit is dying. Why is this inherently bad? I think we can see the problems caused by single-parent households, but that is more a critique of single-parent households than it is alternative child-rearing arrangements. I am in a polyamorous relationship, and I think if we choose to have kids in the future we will be able to provide a good, supportive and stable home life.

Without any other context then there's no way to say she did not give consent. If there is on-camera verbal consent then what you described is not a valid defense. /r/PurplePillDebate07/05/15 08:29 PM

In no way does that video answer the question, "Is this pushing through last minute resistance, or is this rape?" Nothing you have stated can be construed to be answering this question. The only "narrative about LMR" is the one you've constructed in your head.

Well yeah I searched to find the post to link here, but I didn't just make up the term and by pure coincidence it has also been used in a largely upvoted TRP post by an Endorsed Contributor. You aren't really discussing the thread topic here so I'll not be replying to you further, unless you actually want to engage in my question.

Fear of the man who has already forcefully taken possession of her property and told her that she can't leave is my guess. I'm also not sure what relevance your question has. Is it not rape if she doesn't violently resist?

I took the term "push through Last Minute Resistance" from this post by an Endorsed Contributor with over 300 upvotes.

I'd say the opposite of rape is not having sex at all. The only evidence of consent we have in this story is OP's claim that she was "into it" -- after repeated requests to leave and statements that she was very much not into it. Sex without consent is rape.
/r/PurplePillDebate07/05/15 07:43 PM

I am going off this definition as described in the "Comprehensive Guide" on TRP: Contrary to feminist sloganeering, no doesn't always mean no. Often times “no” simply means “not yet”. Simplest advice is to back off and try again later, or if she's adamant and clearly shutting you down. Sounds like "backing off and trying again later" is exactly what this guy tried to do.

I reminded her she promised sex and couldn't leave (she was at my place without transportation to get away) It honestly sounds to me like you don't believe it counts as "rape" unless she violently resists.

The fact that she asked to leave. Keep in mind we are listening to the story from the guy's point of view, so it is probably more than a little sugar coated. As it is the original post has already been edited to make it sound more palatable. There are also some states which define consent in ways that makes this IMO obvious non-consent: http://www.justice.gc.ca/eng/cj-jp/victims-victimes/def.html Subsection 273.1(1) defines consent as the voluntary agreement of the complainant to engage in the s…

/r/PurplePillDebate07/05/15 01:20 PM

That sounds exactly like the context I'm taking it in. Are we not on the same thread? OP's claim is that violence is an alpha trait, not that it's morally acceptable.
/r/PurplePillDebate07/05/15 12:46 PM

Yet some people have also advocated changing laws pertaining to rape. Saying "we don't advocate anything illegal" shifts focus away from the morality of what actually is talked about and what TRP philosophy actually extends to, because what's legal is shifting and different in many places.

Even if your poly, wouldnt you want a high value partner, someone desirable to other people? I do not give a damn what other people think about my partners. Do you seriously judge people based on some kind of "sexual market" scale and according to how desirable you think they are to other people? This is completely foreign to me. We have only had accurate statistical polling for a couple decades, so your last claim is pretty ridiculous. I don't know about you but I wouldn't want a long-term partner who is only interested in me because he can't get sex anywhere else. I'd say this helps women avoid getting involved in long-term relationships with shallow men.

Why should we encourage women to be careless and low quality This may come as a surprise to you, but not everyone in the world operates with these kind of value judgments of other people for these reasons. why don't we encourage women to be better versions of themselves, work hard, get a decent education, and eat healthily and workout If TRP is to be believed, it's because women never progress mentally past teenagers and are incapable of doing intellectual work.

I think "it's just how things are" is an insufficient explanation. For example, there are studies that show gender gaps in math abilities are closely related to general gender inequality in different countries, that girls think they're bad at math even when they aren't, and that teachers give higher grades to girls' math tests when they take the names away. This isn't such a simple and straightforward thing that can be waved away this easily.

The problem is the same as it's been for the past 50 years -- "feminism" is a vague term with shifting and sometimes contradictory definitions, adopted by people with different and sometimes contradictory beliefs. Firstly I'd like to point out how you made your claim without any evidence whatsoever, but immediately ask for evidence when somebody makes a counter claim. Polygamy used to be the norm in the vast majority of cultures. Today the opposite is true. 99% of people today live in cultures where monogamy is practiced. Which one is "natural"? What's the threshold you use to determine if a widespread cultural belief is natural or not?

Most Native American societies did not have that view of it and there are still indigenous cultures in the Amazon today which do not have that view. European, African and Middle Eastern cultures often have that view because they all have roots in the same cultural prejudices that have been around for thousands of years now. That cultural prejudices are spread and propagated over long periods of time does not make them natural. You are making unfounded empirical claims.

In pretty much every society through the recorded history of the world, chastity has been a valued trait in women Bullshit, there are entire cultures where non-monogamy is the norm and children are raised communally because it's usually impossible to determine fatherhood. No it's not. This is actually an underpinning of conservative ideology. You know -- "the rising tide lifts all boats" to argue against redistribution of wealth. That part of the "Red Pill Constitution" is very clearly talking about overall worth as a human being. That is why they specify: their major asset and unique selling point is their sexual beauty and fertility It is saying there is literally nothing else desirable about a woman. This is why they also bloviate at great length about how men are logical and stoic and all that jazz and women are dumb and emotional.

I find it interesting BP women so often conflate worth as a human being with comments on their sexual attractiveness. What are you talking about? She just quoted the "Red Pill Constitution" saying her worth is based on her sexual beauty. Like it literally says "A woman's worth is...". She is saying she disagrees with this.
/r/PurplePillDebate21/12/14 08:43 PM

What you described just sounds like trashy white sorority girls, not all women at large
/r/PurplePillDebate21/12/14 08:40 PM

Yes. Left-wingers generally like to think they are "tolerant" and that they have a "live and let live" attitude. However, they usually stop being "tolerant" when you disagree with them. I am tolerant and have a live and let live attitude. However, that does not include people who actively hurt other people and do not have a "live and let live" attitude. TRP teaches people to be emotionally abusive to women, and that's not something that should be tolerated.

Well, OK, but nobody said that so I'm not sure what relevance your point has. I just said Keynes was hugely influential and New Keynesian economics is a popular subcategory of economics today. Both of these things are true, regardless of whether you agree with the philosophy. Your quote here is a good explanation of why New Keynesianism is popular -- because it makes use of new tools and data to refine some of the failings of Keynes's original writings.
/r/PurplePillDebate19/12/14 08:22 PM

Yes, and Friedman is also taught in every macroeconomics intro class and is commonly read. I don't know what your point even is, I haven't argued anything about what economists follow. I was just responding to your ridiculous assertion that economists don't read Keynes when he is one of the most widely read and influential economists of all time. Do a keyword search of any economics journal for "Keynes" and see how many hits you get. Here is one from the Cambridge Journal of Economics, as an exa…

Keynes is taught in every intro to macroeconomics class because he had hugely influential publications. Keynesian economics = the economic philosophy of John Maynard Keynes. New Keynesian is a reworking of his ideas with a heavier influence on microeconomics.
/r/PurplePillDebate19/12/14 06:35 PM

New Keynesian economics is pretty big. Your claim that people don't read Keynes is absurd

Yeah because those are places people go to help fix bad situations, not tell everyone how great their relationships are. Again that is selection bias.
/r/PurplePillDebate11/12/14 02:47 PM

If somebody started applying these tactics, and after months they were an utter failure, do you think they would come back to the sub and tell everybody about it?

Selection bias, by its nature there aren't going to be any people there telling you how awful their relationships are.

American society isn't in decline by most objective metrics. Economy is improving, more people are getting educated, crime is going down, less people are being discriminated against, etc

This would be a good argument if there wasn't a significant shortage of workers in traditionally male-dominated jobs like plumbing, HVAC, carpentry, etc
/r/PurplePillDebate19/11/14 04:49 PM
13

Why does it seem that American society is in decline, that fairness and decorum are receding, that socialism and tyranny are becoming malignant despite the majority of the public being averse to such philosophies, yet the true root cause seems elusive? Because people have nostalgia goggles for a time they never lived in and lack perspective to see that none of these things are true. Alternately, old people talking about how shitty this new generation is, same as they have always done.

If genocide were a problem at skeptics conventions I'd say that would be a reasonable rule. What particularly do you think is bad about anti-harassment rules? Is there some rule someone passed that you think is bad?

The Civil War happened because the south seceded and the northern elites wanted to maintain the union. Why did the south secede? I don't think it's "beside the point" to look at the documents where the seceding states explicitly detail their reasons for seceding in a discussion about why they seceded. The emancipation proclamation only freed slaves in states not yet liberated by the north And then the 13th Amendment abolished it everywhere directly after the war. Nobody here is arguing the north…
/r/PurplePillDebate04/11/14 01:33 PM

Have you read the Declarations of Causes from the seceding states? Their legislatures actually got together when seceding and wrote (in some cases lengthy) descriptions for why they were seceding. They include numerous nuggets, like this quote from Mississippi: Our position is thoroughly identified with the institution of slavery-- the greatest material interest of the world The Confederate Constitution also forbade member states from banning slavery.

Rather than immediately inferring that the women’s movement failed to improve the lot of women, we conclude with a simple taxonomy for organizing alternative explanations of this paradox. directly supports my claims There's also the fact, which you completely ignored, that the decline was only among white women in the U.S. Women in other racial groups in the U.S. and women in Europe did not have any decline and in fact reported higher levels of happiness.
/r/PurplePillDebate03/11/14 03:58 PM

I'd recommend reading the discussion section of the article you posted. It's also worth noting that European women measured an increase in happiness, where arguably women's movements have been far more successful. However, while U.S. women also experienced an absolute decline in well-being, the subjective well-being of European women has risen in an absolute sense

1950s past 35 years That is an interesting study though. There are of course many different factors that go into someone's overall subjective well-being, as the authors well note: Rather than immediately inferring that the women’s movement failed to improve the lot of women, we conclude with a simple taxonomy for organizing alternative explanations of this paradox.

Right, my understanding was that AWALT referred to potentials within all women that will be actualized to varying degrees depending on the context. This doesn't make any sense to me. Everybody has the potential to do anything within the human experience. This is like saying "it is the nature of men to rape" and then defending it by saying "yeah, well, even though the vast majority of men don't, they all have the potential to!" That's an asinine argument.
/r/PurplePillDebate30/10/14 08:34 PM

Not assuming that they are not rapists isn't the same thing as assuming that they are. I'm sure there are lots of things you do not know about your friends. I don't think it's "safe to assume" people are incapable of doing awful things just because they don't tell you about it.
/r/PurplePillDebate27/10/14 04:53 PM

I never said you should assume your friends are rapists, I'm just saying it is entirely possible that your friends who you have known for a long time and know well might be rapists. People don't usually just come out and say these things.

Your logic doesn't make any sense to me. You say that men used to police each other, but it's women's fault for messing it up. If it was men who were policing each other, how could women change that? According to TRP all women are hypergamous sluts by nature who can't help but give it up for the next alpha who comes around, so how could women's behavior change the fact that men police one another? Since this is all BioTruths™, women were always like this right? If all women are like that by thei…

What I was replying to was the assertion that men's value in society in general (not "sexual market value") is determined by a man's partner count. This seemed absurd to me as most people in society have no idea what each other's counts are. The post was: society generally determines a . . . man's value by his status . . . and how many women he's slept with That just struck me as being ridiculous.
/r/PurplePillDebate20/08/14 08:52 PM
9

I can see that to some degree. But do you think that's valid at all? Even TRP has something they call the "anger phase" to describe the ridiculous attitudes people have from their inability to get women to like them. I think there definitely are some people who hold certain views simply because they have been jilted by some women (due entirely to their own fault). That's hardly the same, though, as saying society uses a man's partner count as a determination of value/status. What you're describi…

TRP doesn't promote or advocate what you must do, as much as it explains and discusses what actually works. So they don't advocate anything, they just say being an asshole is a successful strategy and leave you to make your own decisions. That's way different.

no one can experience anyone elses love I can witness and understand how women love Wait a minute, you can't experience anyone else's love, but you do think that you can understand someone else's love simply because you both have vaginas? This is the contradictory stuff I was talking about earlier. I don't see how your logic for why you can't understand men's love (because you can't experience somebody else's love) doesn't also apply to women.
/r/PurplePillDebate15/08/14 04:02 PM

I apologize if I misinterpreted your comment, but the way it read to me you were agreeing with the premise that men have one type of love and women have another. I read the whole thing and it did not seem to me you ever contradicted that premise. You even ended it continuing with the assumption that men love one way and women do another.
/r/PurplePillDebate15/08/14 03:31 PM

That doesn't mean it has to be your answer. The way you answered carries with it an implicit assumption about love being gendered.

That's because it is a study made by The Heritage Foundation, whose entire purpose is to make studies supporting pre-determined conclusions (in this case, a typically conservative view of sexuality). The thing is, you as a male not in jail aren't at more risk of rape simply because men in jail get raped. The difference here is those rape stats for women come from women living their ordinary lives. The Biblical definition of adultery is sex outside of marriage. In Jesus' words, even looking at someone with lust is adultery. My point is simply that the other person's argument that anti-prostitution laws are, at least in part, religious based is both theologically and historically sound.

The fact that under Christ she could still be saved and go to heaven doesn't mean they are OK with prostitution. There's the whole "love the sinner, hate the sin" thing. Did you read that article? It supports what I just said. Powerful as this image may be, it is not the story of Mary Magdalene. Mary Magdalene is mentioned in each of the four gospels in the New Testament, but not once does it mention that she was a prostitute or a sinner. Arguing their philosophy with others doesn't amount to acknowledging its flaws. The folks I see in PPD arguing about this still maintain the "amoral" stance and will absolutely not admit that the strategies are immoral.

If it weren't for a law governing the age of consent, would your sense of decency or morality be the same? I took this to mean you were implicitly arguing that they wouldn't be. I'm saying they would be the same, for any given culture (not necessarily the same across cultures).

Again: He said "the best looking pussy is 14-22", not that 14 is the earliest age at which it's acceptable to have sex with a girl. I have no concern for what age that poster in particular finds most attractive.

And since when has a man's brain penis and hormones stopped to consider a girl's mental development when it comes to pure physical attraction. I'm not talking about pure physical attraction, I'm talking about actually having sex with somebody. It's possible for your brain to overcome your penis. I don't really care about victimless thoughts. The post I linked to is talking about actually having sex with people. You know, "old enough to breed".

It was included in the post because I think the poster believes it has some truth value to it. It is used to support the overall argument being made. Another poster in this thread straight up stated that it's "the truth". That's why I logically deduced from it. I don't know why y'all seem to think that particular sentence was put in there for no reason whatsoever.

He said "the best looking pussy is 14-22", not that 14 is the earliest age at which it's acceptable to have sex with a girl. I'm not asking "why do you like 12 year olds", I'm asking "do you really think it's OK to have sex with 12 year olds?" In other words, do you disagree with the statement: old enough to bleed, old enough to breed ? It's a very simple question, really. Weird that so far only 2 people have actually responded to it.

I don't know why you think you get to just make up your own definitions for words and act like you've won an argument based on your own made up definitions. "Adult" is a term with a complete legal definition. You even linked the dictionary definition of "woman" which did not include a single thing about capability of bearing offspring. Like, you linked something which contradicted your own argument.

You don't see how I arrived at that conclusion based on their exact words? If it's an empty phrase, then why was it used?

Woman, female, lady are nouns referring to adult human beings adult human beings adult There you go. "Adult" does not mean "after first menstruation".

So, again, you picked an age you felt was appropriate to describe someone else's position, even though it wasn't what they said. That's what I told you in my first post. You put words in someone else's mouth and then asked "Do you really think that?". The answer is no. You created a Strawman, and then immediately claimed moral victory. It's a completely logical deduction from what they said. "Old enough to bleed" = age of first menstruation. The average age of first menstruation is 12. How is th…

Biologically: She is considered a woman the second she menstruates No, "woman" is a human concept. There is no biological definition of "womanhood". Mind and emotions are not separate from this discussion at all. Generally "woman" means "adult female", not "female who has begun menstruating". "Old enough to bleed, old enough to breed" is anything other than 1.) The truth 2.) A joke to get laughs in the locker room Did you make a typo here? These two things seem contradictory. If it's "the truth"…

Someone who has finished mental development I would say. It's not just about having breasts and menstruating. There are still significant changes happening in the body, and especially the brain, up until the late teens/early 20s. Statutory rape laws are mostly based on the concept of informed consent. The idea is that under a certain age, adolescent brains are not sufficiently developed to make informed consent.

Notably the only responses I've gotten from TRPers so far are completely ducking and weaving the question.

Why does age matter to you, only when it serves women? Not sure what you're talking about, these laws apply to women having sex with underage boys too. 35 is just a older 28 for most women. It's not about the sheer difference in age, it's about mental maturity and informed consent. Most people generally agree the adolescent brain is not developed enough to give informed adult consent when someone is 12 years old. And outside of the legal frame work which is completely arbitrary Do you really thi…

So you disagree with the author's assertion: Old enough to bleed, old enough to breed ? I picked out age 12 from the fact that age 12 is the average age girls start to menstruate. According to this, that means they are old enough to have sex with. I don't feel I am dishonestly portraying their position, I am using direct quotes from their post and asking if you really believe that.
/r/PurplePillDebate08/08/14 01:44 PM

IMO it's self-evident that the 16/18 age limit is a social construct -- all laws are social constructs by definition. That ignores whether or not those social constructs are reasonable and good to have for society.

According to their backwards logic, more people opposed to it = more people who know it's true deep down. Obviously we wouldn't find this to be ridiculous and offensive if we didn't secretly agree.

They are talking about the reality of TRPers where posts saying women like to be raped, that we should disrespect all women, that marital rape doesn't exist, that women are illogical, etc all get massively upvoted and circlejerked by the TRP community. I don't know, why have you? Because most of TRP is just bitching about feminism, with a smaller amount dedicated to figuring out how to bang bitches and leave them by the wayside. I'm fairly certain that most women do not like to be "dread gamed", nor does it make them happy. As TRPers always so, it is amoral and about sexual strategy, not making women happy.

Short of putting video cameras in everyone's bedrooms, it's the best we've got. I'd be interested to see evidence that women lie more often in anonymous polling, but I'm not aware of any that exists.
/r/PurplePillDebate05/08/14 06:44 PM

That's why they rely on anonymous methodology. People are more likely to tell the truth when it is anonymized. People report cheating in significantly higher numbers when asked by an anonymous computer poll than when they are asked face-to-face by an actual person. In any event, a considerable number of people aren't lying about it.

This assertion is then contradicted by other posts in this thread claiming women have higher emotional intelligence, given that being able to see from another person's perspective is a central tenet of high EQ.

Women don't care about their image? I did not state that, I said the assertion that women care about how other people view them is contradictory to the view of women as solipsists. Solipsism means that people believe they are the only person who exists. If that is true, then a person who is a solipsist would not care about what other people think. I am pointing out how contradictory TRP "theories" are.

The best measurements, as far as I know, are anonymous scientific polling where people self-report their own experiences. Like for that to be true, single women would have to overwhelmingly choose to sleep with married men. Not sure why it would have to be "overwhelming". Is it your position that people should not be allowed to hold those views? Obviously not. Why is deleting them better than allowing the community to downvote them? Perceived promiscuity by other people, not actual experience. This trait was seen as being sexually unattractive to women in the study. (Note: this entire study also goes against supposed "TRP 101" that you should study behavior and not what women claim to be attracted to)
/r/PurplePillDebate17/07/14 03:41 PM

Wonder if you even read that first study: To summarize, highly aggressive targets were perceived to be relatively less likable, less stable, more promiscuous, and less desirable as spouses. These effects did not differ as a function of the target's sex This is directly contradictory to your later claim that aggressiveness leads to dating success. Which really supports the point made earlier that TRP folks just believe in the things that confirm their biases and discard anything that doesn't.

Firstly, you can put the thesaurus down. Your posts are almost as bad as reading Judith Butler. My point is the "whole corpus" of feminist history and thought includes a great diversity of opinions, including ones which are mutually contradictory. I think it's disingenuous for you to pick out a few specific authors -- all from over 50 years ago, by the way -- and use them as a straw man for the feminist movement today. This just reinforces my view that people are privileging their desire to have sex over their sense of morality. I think the top reply to that comment is pretty good, too. There are a lot of unsupported empirical claims there (which is common with TRP, I find). redpillschool undermines his own post when saying rape is not good. Well yes, morality is always subjective to a degree. But why mention that it's "amoral" at all? If it wasn't obviously immoral to a large portion of people then that caveat would not be needed. Again, it seems to me to be a way of dealing with cognitive dissonance. "This conflicts with most basic standards of morality, but I want to fuck women, so I'll say it's amoral..."

Your premise is wrong. "Women" aren't some singular unified group that get together and make decisions about who they're going to limit their sex to. "Women" are billions of individuals around the world with vastly differing personalities, traits and experiences. So in some cases, a woman might be the "gatekeeper" for sex. In other cases, a woman might not be.

But women do have natural hormones that give them motherly urges. It's not a sole defining characteristic, of course, but why ignore it? It seems to me /u/vornash1 is saying women should have the right to make their own choices in life, and a lot of women make the choice to work part-time or stay at home completely. As someone who identifies as a feminist I find it problematic that our culture in some ways shames women who don't go into the workplace.

Denying that men have, historically, had more power than women and that this still influences society is pretty, well, its pretty stupid. It's pretty funny to see people simultaneously deny patriarchy is a thing, and then argue that it's actually a natural result of biology.

I'm honestly baffled how you could arrive at this conclusion out of what OP just posted. So what if it's sexist if it works? The whole point is that for some people it doesn't work, and we should treat people as individuals instead of telling people what should/shouldn't be based on their gender. Some women are more dominant and some men are more submissive and some are better at collaborating when making decisions.

Yeah, and? TRP is talking about submission in a relationship and you are purposefully pretending they are talking about all women being submissive to all women. Which you know is not what they are saying. I never indicated otherwise. So if they say men are better at certain things, that's really just code for all men being superior to all women in every way? Evolutionary psychology is generally considered to be unscientific, because it makes untestable and unfalsifiable hypotheses. "Feminism" is a fractured set of beliefs, but they certainly don't have a singular goal. Now, if you wanted to talk about a specific subset of feminism -- ecofeminism, for example -- you could definitely talk in more specifics. So in that analogy, I would say "mens' rights" or "pickup artistry" is a wide-ranging phenomenon with lots of disparate groups underneath those umbrellas, with TRP being a specific subset.

Well when you're talking about individual people you are judging, then no I don't think that is a reasonable metric to use. As an individual, either they have pathological tendencies or they do not. That is how you should judge them. Asking somebody how many sexual partners they've had is certainly not something I would consider important to bring up on a first date, for example, in helping to determine if we're a match.
/r/PurplePillDebate13/06/14 06:31 PM

Yeah, I'm agreeing with that exactly. But just like being a virgin, the sexual history in and of itself isn't problematic. There are people who have had many sexual partners but do not have any pathologies surrounding it, just as there are people who are virgins without any pathologies.
/r/PurplePillDebate13/06/14 06:15 PM

I think it's important to first recognize you're conflating "most sexually appealing" with "most sexual activity". Someone can have a lot of sexual appeal but still not get a lot of sexual activity for the simple fact that they aren't constantly trying to get laid.
/r/PurplePillDebate13/06/14 04:24 PM

Sure, if you find they have some bad personality trait that leads them to seek many different partners to fill some kind of emotional void. But for me, the simple fact of having had many partners in the past is not a problem in and of itself.

That's very obviously not what she is saying. /r/PurplePillDebate11/06/14 02:50 PM

It doesn't sound like a statement casting moral judgment, no, but I think "dependency" is an accurate word to describe the relationship of women to men in RP relationships. Do you disagree?
/r/PurplePillDebate11/06/14 02:35 PM
-2

Again, nobody said anything about dependency issues. Though it is curious to me that's what you arrive at by reading into it. Maybe you think "father figure" is a bad characterization but I personally don't see anything inherently negative, even if it's inaccurate.

Red pill theory holds someone a woman can melt with love for I thought one of the main points of red pill theory is that women are incapable of loyalty and love, and those are masculine traits?
/r/PurplePillDebate11/06/14 01:57 PM
1

How did you interpret that? OP didn't claim anybody has issues. In fact she states quite plainly: Like I said, honest questions, no judgement. I just want to understand it. And the top comment she receives in reply is calling her a hypocrite. Wow.

The biggest flaw here is that it only includes reported rapes. This is why the FBI publishes both the UCJ report, which looks at all reported crimes, as well as the Crime Victimization Survey, which aims to capture unreported crimes as well.
/r/PurplePillDebate11/06/14 01:52 PM
6

This sounds like hyperbole but it's not. The whole "Dark Triad" thing is about becoming a sociopath. There was even a post recently where the OP was lamenting how much trouble they're having becoming a full narcissist and psychopath.

They also didn't practice "traditional gender roles" either. I assume you think the effects of feminism are what's bad for society, rather than an ideology simply existing in text. And "Native Americans" were not a singular group, they too had diverse social systems. There are examples of different tribes who did have female chiefs. Look up "Queen Anne" of the Paunchy and Awashonks of the Wampanoags. There are of course many more as well.
/r/PurplePillDebate10/06/14 06:45 PM

Lahu people, most Native American tribes, people of Vanatinai, the Shakers here in America (though they are quite an anomaly given their religious teachings included celibacy), there are a few others if you'd like more reading. The biggest problem with your claim is that there's no single "tradition" of gender roles, there are a lot of differences between cultures and across time. I assume you're really talking solely about western Judeo-Christian gender roles.
/r/PurplePillDebate10/06/14 06:39 PM
3

This doesn't really bolster your initial point, even if I concede that this point is correct (it's not, given the variety of preindustrial societies with egalitarian gender roles).
/r/PurplePillDebate10/06/14 06:26 PM

Indeed, getting more women into the workplace is often a major development goal of the World Bank when they start working with developing nations.
/r/PurplePillDebate10/06/14 04:55 PM
1

I wouldn't call that my definition of feminism, but I would say that eliminating arbitrary gender roles is one of the over-arching goals of feminism, which was the crux of the argument I originally responded to (i.e. "traditional gender roles make the best societies"). So for the purposes of comparing and contrasting societies with "traditional gender roles" and those without them, it would still be useful.
/r/PurplePillDebate10/06/14 04:50 PM
4

Rural India isn't particularly industrialized, but I see your point. I guess you can look at gender egalitarian societies of precolonial Native American tribes as perhaps the best example. Then I suspect the response would be "but that's not feminism" even though it's obviously not "traditional gender roles"
/r/PurplePillDebate10/06/14 04:40 PM
2

The comment was something to the effect of "Then don't ask unverifiable questions".
/r/PurplePillDebate10/06/14 04:36 PM
2

That was my first thought, but somehow I don't think pointing out the burgeoning feminist movement in India and other places would be very effective, and there'd be lots of contrived reasons that these real-world examples are also irrelevant.
/r/PurplePillDebate10/06/14 04:34 PM
8

The question I asked is perfectly answerable, he just moved the goal posts because the evidence doesn't support the claim. Even among industrialized societies we could compare areas where there are more traditional gender roles and areas where there's a bigger feminist influence (compare the rural Bible belt to San Francisco, for example). But looking at actual evidence destroys the circlejerk so goal posts are moved to avoid the cognitive dissonance of evidence contradicting your beliefs.
/r/PurplePillDebate10/06/14 03:40 PM
15

How convenient, you make a claim and then frame it in a way that is completely unsupportable and unverifiable.
/r/PurplePillDebate10/06/14 02:35 PM
16

Good because traditional gender roles are better for creating a stable society than feminism is. Would you care to compare and contrast countries today that have traditional gender roles vs countries where there is a large feminist movement and where feminist political objectives have become law?
/r/PurplePillDebate10/06/14 02:22 PM

Except TRP is a specific subreddit with specific reading material presenting itself as a specific argument and worldview, unlike feminism which is a vast array of both connected and disconnected groups, ideologies, etc that are often contradictory.
/r/PurplePillDebate09/06/14 11:45 PM
1

It's really not like saying that. TBP is explicitly a satire of TRP, there's nothing else about it. A better analogy would be like pretending "non-Christians" are a singular group of people, but it actually includes people of many different religious worldviews and ideologies. TBP is more like "non-Christian" in this analogy than "atheist" -- it's defined by not being something, rather than being something in particular.

I think it's more that "blue pill" refers to literally everything that is not "red pill", which includes an extremely diverse set of beliefs and ideologies.

I don't mean to suggest TRP encourages or condones murder and rape. However, some of the underlying ideologies can be used to do so by people with mental illnesses or other crazy beliefs. The idea that women are biologically inferior to men, for example, or that women are without exception hypergamous sluts who only put out for alphas. Those are two of the most important things influencing his extreme hatred, and two things which TRP is based on.

From behavioral perspectives that's not actually true. Not sure what you mean here. I actually studied feminist theory with a behavioral psychologist, and while there are some people who try to pretend women and men are literally 100% identical, even most radical feminists will acknowledge some differences. That's your perspective. My point is that it's functional, and amoral. I agree TRP is not a moral philosophy. That doesn't mean that the ideology itself can't be immoral. Sorry to hear that. …

I wouldn't think it's too surprising. Having it stickied and with so many upvotes and comments, it was just a perfect example of the misogyny in that subreddit. When people make the "TRP isn't misogynist, we just recognize men and women are different!" argument, there couldn't be a better example to shoot that down.
/r/PurplePillDebate29/05/14 04:09 AM

Women are different from men. Inferior isn't really the correct term, and paradoxical. I think most people can accept women are different from men. But TRP definitely treats them as inferior, as evidenced by the aforementioned posts justifying beating women and stickied post about disrespecting 100% of all women. That's not just "women are different". Moreover, RP is written as shop talk, or guys talking to guys about girls. For example, when I talk to my guy friends about women it's never lovie…

/r/PurplePillDebate29/05/14 03:55 AM

The underlying belief is also that there are inherent biological qualities that make women objectively inferior to men. You can't tell me that TRP isn't inherently misogynistic when the "required reading" list on the subreddit includes justification for beating women, and a recently stickied post that stated the OP did not respect any women whatsoever with a cacophony of agreement. That's the kind of toxic shit TRP pushes and this guy absorbed.
/r/PurplePillDebate29/05/14 01:13 AM
11

The point OP is making is that the underlying beliefs are toxic.
/r/PurplePillDebate28/05/14 11:08 PM
14

To piggyback on this, it's telling that all the TRP and manosphere posts about this say nothing about how wrong his underlying beliefs are. The only criticism is he wasn't alpha enough. All of his beliefs were in line with TRP ideology.
/r/PurplePillDebate28/05/14 11:07 PM

Do you think that's really a biological response, or one that is culturally ingrained in you? I do not have the same response as you do at all. If it's a purely biological response, then you've got a point. If it's not, then the justification for calling women "sluts" for doing the same thing men do is not justified whatsoever.
/r/PurplePillDebate26/05/14 03:19 PM

Nobody would talk about scientific backing if TRP folks didn't constantly put forth hypotheses about biology and sociology that are testable or have already been tested. It's not a "personal philosophy" when you're claiming objective biological facts.

Well firstly your premise is wrong, because women aren't the only ones entitled to alimony in a marriage. But the reasoning is this. When you are in a marriage, you enter into a partnership. In the event of a divorce, the caretaker has had their current and future earning potential direc…

People still have the agency to make their own choices and hone their own beliefs. There's nothing about growing up in white middle class suburbia (which, let's face it, describes most TRP folks) that necessarily makes people believe in TRP ideology. Also I haven't heard any songs that say "I do not respect any women" and "dating women is just like cavemen fighting sabertooth tigers".
/r/PurplePillDebate25/05/14 03:34 PM

And I don't care if this is "joking". This is my average view of a feminist. Do you really not see how ridiculous of a statement this is? You're basically saying "I don't care if this is actually a reflection of reality or not, it's what I base my views on".

What is ironic though about TBP is in their attempt at labeling TRP as a group of intolerant misogynists they themselves have proven to be intolerant of others. Intolerance isn't in and of itself a bad thing. There are plenty of hate groups society should be intolerant of.

A very basic biological reason your analogy is bad is because the human fight or flight response is a short-term phenomenon (like we would rely upon to survive against many-fanged beasts, for instance), and not a long-term state of mind (like human relationships are based on).
