I can see the appeal to that approach. See https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wN9Jq3_Z-1M

Man you need to take a chill pill. If reddit comments get you like this this you're going to have a hard time dating.

Are you okay? You seem to be very emotional right now pal. I think you are reading something you want to read.

Sounds like you waited too long and got friendzoned. You can be friendly with women, but not their friends. Well, you can, but then you have what you're dealing with. Honestly, if you're interested in someone, just ask them out. It seems like a big deal but it's really not.

Fair enough!

That can be worked on. Or, idk, lean fully into it like Ben Stein. I'm not Ben Stein so I trained myself out of it.

Yeah I'll second this. Sure there can be a time and place for something you'd talk about in a college seminar...and it's not a date.
/r/PurplePillDebate15/08/25 02:49 PM

This is exactly it. And yeah, if you never leave your house of course women will find you boring. Men find it boring too. You know who spends all their time in their house? Old people. Because they can't leave their house! The vast majority of people like to go out and do things at least occasionally.
/r/PurplePillDebate15/08/25 02:47 PM

It's not introversion. You may need to spend an evening at home to recharge your social batteries but that has no bearing on whether you're boring or not.

Just wait till we get a thread asking about mothers! Half-joking but yeah there's a lot of family dysfunction in these spaces. I could go on about both of my parents if I wanted lol Your typical guy who swam or swims in these spaces isn't in the water because they wanted to dive in and see what it's like. :\

Yeahhhhh it's a mess. There's things like that, there's Purity Culture (which is a huge rabbit hole), there's people thinking you need to ignore looks, there's people who think you can sit back and do nothing because God will do it for you, and that's not even the half of it. It's just a complete mess.

Lol yeah the chart actually fits my town The town sub has the occasional post asking about dating and basically the answer every time is "it's a dumpster fire" 🫠

You're on-point. And man none of this is even scratching the service of the dysfunction in the Christian-dating world. It has its own set of complications lol
/r/PurplePillDebate12/08/25 04:50 PM

Yeah some places are rough. Mine is apparently one of the worst places for dating lol Dating is a lot like the job market. Location, location, location

The pool is very....mixed. To get results you have to set your distance wide and even then you'll still get a lot of...quite frankly trailer trash. I remember helping a friend get set up on the Christian one and man with what he could see he didn't even have to go online! He could've gotten matches that were just as "good" at the local trailer park. I'm not even in a rural area but I think just with my req of 'Christian' I'll have to set my distance wide to include other nearby towns because eve…

I remember getting to visit my biological dad on Christmas and being shoved into a tent in the attic because my "stepmom" wanted her two boys to have a bed to sleep in when they were visiting her on Christmas. Like, at the time I thought it was an adventure but in retrospect that was really messed up.

this world want to spin it as "oh, my poor broken child" I hate, hate, hate those types of parents. It's one thing if you're the brand of autism where you scream and punch yourself in the head all day, but a lot of the guys I've seen aren't that. But then their parents treat them like some helpless cripple and lo' and behold they go around thinking "Oh I can't do X, Y, and Z I've got autism." Or just as bad, they cater to every whim of the kid, who then grows up with a mindset that the world sho…

A lot of this is further exacerbated by where someone is too. I'll give a personal example but I think it's indicative of similarly situated regions. I'm not in a rural area by any means (city with >100k population, more in the greater metro area) but dating is awful here. You can go to the city's subreddit and get similar remarks there. A large part of this is when people graduate high school and are college bound they'll move away because the schools here are nowhere close to top-tier. They ge…

Yeah they're required to report that stuff. Doesn't even have to be something like that. When I was teaching years ago I had a student write this big long love letter, so of course I let her counselor know ASAP. 3 parts covering my rear, 1 part hoping the counselor could address that because that student wasn't in a good place mentally.

If you want someone who loves you for you, get a dog. You'll see people say "love is a choice," or whatever, and sure. To a degree it is, but the vast vast vast majority of people will have a limit to how much of your nonsense they can put up with before that choice stops being worth it. And how you act and how you present will affect how easy it is for you to find someone with a high tolerance for your nonsense. This goes for men and women. My stupid boyfriend doesn't want a present ☹️ Of course he said that. We all say that. It's good you're giving him something because he wouldn't like not getting one. Pro-tip for the future: Make a mental note to yourself whenever you see him eying some gadget, trinket, piece of clothing, or whatever else he wants to get but won't for whatever reason. He'll probably forget about it so when you finally gift it months later he'll be saying "WOW!"

No. The laziness and lack of ambition are pretty big for me. The ambition doesn't have to be big either, just have something you're working towards. But honestly these things read more like depression symptoms so if someone like that recognizes it and starts to address that then sure.
/r/PurplePillDebate06/12/24 01:55 PM
1

Not with the lack of direction or ambition. Those two outweigh the other things by far. I have a decent career, getting licensed to practice law pretty soon, I'm not starving. Like, you want to stay at home to raise (I mean actually raise) kids and tend to the home? That's good enough to tick the direction/ambition boxes in my book. Just so long as whoever it is won't be sitting at a computer or TV vegetating 25/8/366 while they let their lives and environment fall apart from sheer laziness.

Christians on reddit too. You have St. Paul going on about how there's no Jew, Greek, Gentile etc. so the average one doesn't want to say something that sounds badeven though it's true. At most people may be ok with the idea, but generally people prefer their own group. Which is fine.

I would theoretically be open to that, but when you factor in time from date to engagement, engagement to marriage, and available time left for having kids.. that'd be a stretch to say the least. But I say that with the full realization all these preferences and requirements we set out tend to go straight out the window if it's the 'right' person, myself included.

Yeah. It's wild. I'm not sure if it's still trending but the Whatever podcast was pretty big. But without fail, those girls get a load of subscribers after. Each and every time. Maybe a bit of shame, a dash of self-loathing. Hate and love are two sides of the same coin. Eh. Moreso just learning how to adapt imho. We just have to do more adapting than others. I don't necessarily like parts of the game, but I like the things you can get out of it so I learn the rules and play it anyway even if some of them don't make sense to me personally. You often find out they don't make sense to a lot of people either. But hey, them's the rules so you just play by them like everyone else has to do.

And of course more things around where I live as time permits. /r/PurplePillDebate04/09/24 03:26 PM

I and plenty of men who do go to church would say there are no single women there. I think both are true, to be honest. IIRC church-going men and women of the ages that typically look for long-term relationships are increasingly going to different denominations from each other; women to the more liberal denominations, men the more conservative. And then you have the other factors relating to sex-distribution like region (e.g., urban v. rural), age demographics of each denomination, denomination …

One thing I did that was suuuper helpful for me when I was younger was I had a rule for myself to only go back to my dorm room when it was time for bed. Could probably revamp that to house, flat, whatever but not sure how helpful that idea would be if you're not in some area where everything you could do was close by. In any case, by doing that I was forcing myself to have to talk to people, running into things to do with friends and acquaintances, and generally doing things that didn't consist …

Basically every church I've been to, the singles are male so this tracks. Of course, you have women saying the reverse too. If I had to guess, this is—broadly speaking—a large coordination problem that's amplified by skewed sex distributions at the regional and denominational level (and nevermind how churches have treated dating and relationships for the past few decades. E.g., Purity Culture). And of course leadership at the various levels generally seems to view this as an individual problem s…

Good to focus on that given your age and weight but be careful you don't let your fitness goals completely override your relationship goals. Maybe not as big an issue if you don't care for LTRs, but if you are then you're at that age range where the good people are already pairing off and leaving the dating pool. If you are LTR-minded then there's a chance all the good ones are "taken" when you finally reach those goals.

I dont get what there is to be mad about. I think it's a similar dynamic to the one where some guy finds out there's more to attraction than "being nice." Like, yeah, these things are no-brainers to a lot of people, but there's a ton of people who just don't get those memos for whatever reason.
/r/PurplePillDebate07/05/24 04:51 PM

dishonouronmycow has a good point. Another factor is one of perspective. I lost a bunch of weight and I could've been angry and upset at women suddenly finding me attractive, but I was inspired to keep on. The process of weight loss taught me we have a lot more control over how others treat us than we think. Of course you have men who take the same tack as those women you're talking about. It's often all a matter of perspective.

This is true. Also, we're starting to see trends showing that there will be more zoomer men in churches than women. The younger women are just dropping out of church entirely. Moreso than the men, at any rate.
/r/PurplePillDebate07/05/24 12:16 PM

I think this is probably region dependent. Tons of people out there saying "Where are all the Christian [men]/[women]?!" Fwiw I'm in one of the areas where there's a surplus of men. And that's not even getting into the population issues within denominations. The Orthodox are getting a lot of single men converting and from what I'm hearing there just aren't enough unpaired women (and this isn't even getting into issues re: distance)

If I ever had a GF, I would never tell her my history regarding my disabilities. I wouldn't do it right off the bat, obviously, but that's a bridge you would need to cross eventually. You tell them and if the person is good it'll help them better understand where you're coming from and will help her to understand the things you do that might not make sense to her. If it hurts the relationship then you wouldn't want that person and would be absolutely miserable in the long-term, anyway. The right…

Raised by mom. It's a bit difficult to answer this question through the lens of gender roles, because as I was thinking on it, she was former military and our family comes from working class background. When we're all just words on a screen we aren't talking to another person, just what we cooked them up to be in our minds. What we present isn't ourselves either, but what we want people to see and even then that's not getting across anyway because it isn't us the other person's interacting with to begin with. Best of luck but I think you may be cutting down on potential respondents by requiring them to both self ID as i*cels AND have been on i*cel forums. For ex. I've never ID'd as one but I used to spend tons of time on /r9k/. That's at least one potential respondent cut out based on the qualifiers.

I don't see the problem with that statement if sex is entirely off the table. The whole point of dating, to me, is to get to know someone, see if you're compatible, whether you're looking for the same things from the relationship. You date around, then you go exclusive when you find someone you mesh with. If I found out someone I was dating was sleeping around I'd amicably part because that's just a plain values mismatch. No need to waste anyone's time.
/r/PurplePillDebate08/03/24 09:42 PM
2

Yeah.. from what happy_discus has said I'm not getting a good vibe from this lady. If it was me and assuming everything said is true I'd be leaning to just ending things. It shouldn't feel like pulling teeth. I'd be fine with pulling that trigger because this is just dating, it's not like you're married. If things get serious what if the rest of the relationship is like that? You don't want to deal with hot-cold. 0/10 do not recommend at all

This is how these dreams go: you're sitting at the bar, a pretty lady sits down and you chat. Maybe she even buys you a drink. You don't know how much time passes. Five minutes? An hour? Three? It doesn't matter now. Next thing you know you're groaning in pain on the hardscrabble ground, struggling to even remember who you are. You're in a back alley or under the bridge, or maybe some ditch in the middle of nowhere with rough, bloody stitching on your side and the worst hangover known to man.

The DT is ephemeral and fast-paced. This and the general board culture of the sub mean that, historically, mentioning someone multiple times is very out there. Concurring. I join this opinion because Red is the proper color but do so as a separate concurrence due to a separate line of reasoning. I reach the above conclusion from this line. I therefore join this opinion.

/r/PurplePillDebate27/02/24 03:17 PM

The key is to avoid, well, all the big subs and get a good sense of how much is too much. I've been highlighted on SRS, post on PCM, and submitted rightist posts but I'm still around. But then again I try to avoid going out of my way to antagonize anyway. It doesn't accomplish anything and it's exhausting

I just learned about this last week on the Christiandating sub. Apparently it's getting to be a common practice which doesn't surprise me because it sounds like a way for women to filter through the 10,000 swipes or whatever they have. Online dating just sounds exhausting all around.

If you're getting your steps in like you should going over a little bit really isn't worth stressing about. Actually, even if you don't it ain't worth stressing about either so long as you keep to whatever your regimen is. I've eaten like trash a couple of days the last two weeks—I'm talking honey buns, candy, and other bottom of the barrel garbage that definitely exceeded my daily limit—and I'm still down from where I was the first of the month.

/r/PurplePillDebate16/02/24 12:36 AM

That's what I'd seen. I haven't seen enough to really know the quality of the people on it though. Generally my reason to decline was I find the whole concept to make a spectacle of autistics, I don't want my private life aired for people to see, and with the circles I run in it'd probably be a net-negative to be on TV in that capacity. Let alone irl obligations at the time with work and school. I only got so many spoons to spread between all the cups I'm juggling! 🤣

My biggest piece of advice would be to get your buddy off the apps and have him meet some women in person. The options on those apps are awful and I'd say the culture of dating on those apps doesn't really work. Everyone is looking for the next best thing and it's extremely forced. You're not wrong but I'd say make it a both-and instead of either-or. He'll want to cast a wide net due to new trends in how people meet.

/r/PurplePillDebate02/02/24 08:56 PM

It's an all squares are rectangles but not all rectangles are squares thing. To be a lawyer you just have to graduate law school To be an attorney you have to be licensed to practice law. For most people that means graduating law school and passing your state's Bar Exam. I'm a lawyer, but I haven't taken the Bar yet so I can't call myself or hold myself out as an attorney until I do that.
/r/PurplePillDebate02/02/24 08:48 PM

You could be a lawyer. When I was younger I wanted to be a doctor... but then I discovered I couldn't really deal with the whole, well, all of it. Which rules out medicine, dentistry, and everything else involving fixing people. Deceitful and just setting yourself up for failure for anything from misaligned values to future conflicts over how kids are raised. And besides, finding someone in a place of religious worship is a 'your mileage may vary' at best. Ex. Insofar as Christians are concerned, demographics skew to a surplus of women but I don't think those stats take denomination, region, or age into account. Lots of single people reporting a dearth of the opposite sex wherever they happen to live.

I gave a similar answer of 35/36 but assuming all the time dating, engaged, etc was skipped over. The upper limit would probably have to be my age or no more than a year or so older, realistically speaking, and that's maybe pushing it because the odds of finding someone I could get married to right out the gate is probably low.

It could be a factor of lack of experience with women in general. Could be hard for them to imagine it because they haven't been in relationships before, or could be they haven't done sufficient introspection either. Or maybe lack of good examples in their personal life for whatever reason, which probably feeds back to your larger point on atomization. I have a pet theory that a big part of the struggle some men are apparently facing is due to a lack of pop-culture application/literacy or being highly atomized. There's probably a good effortpost waiting to be made on this. I was talking just yesterday or day before about technology enabling people to develop ultraniche interests, which is bad when relations with others require some commonalities. To answer the question, honestly I know my tastes are eclectic enough such that I don't really thi…

I'd put it as going out, doing things and putting oneself in opportunities to meet people, expanding your social networks. But then also going out on a limb and asking someone out if they think the opportunity presents itself. Writing that all out this is pretty basic "how to human" stuff here, honestly. An issue with the advice in OP could be one of interpretation, I've noticed that's a common thing in these spaces and among men who have issues with relationship formation.
/r/PurplePillDebate21/11/23 07:24 PM

Terrible shape and poor fashion sense. But honestly the latter's just a common thing. Try sitting somewhere at brunch and seeing how many couples walk in with the women well-kempt and the men looking like schlubs

Another issue is technology has allowed us to pursue and really dig into whatever we're interested in. On the one hand that's great, but on the other it makes it so easy for people to get stuck in their little micro-subcultures and niche interests that literally no one else within a 500 mile radius has. Before, you had whatever books were at your bookstore or library, whatever music was on the radio, whatever shows were on the 3 or 4 stations (or 100 channels for the cable enjoyers), whatever mo…

Pure fiction I think it's an issue of degrees if anything. Letting it consume you won't help, but you shouldn't just outright stop looking. You won't just land into a relationship if all you're doing is just going to work and coming home day-in and day-out

Looking at complaints from both sexes, let's just say there's a lack of good men and women. This tit-for-tat "We have it worse because blah blah blah blah" from both is not productive and just makes either more hateful and mean towards each other, and that definitely isn't going to get people into committed long-term relationships. Just say both are awful, and we can go from there.

A sibling had theirs at like...24? my folks had me at 33 and 39, respectively. My grandparents on either side were in their early-mid-20s when having kids. I think I'll be lucky if I have any before 35. And that's assuming I can quickly find someone worth marrying who also is at the point where they want children. Just the thought of having kids at 24 is absolutely wild to me because there was absolutely no way I was even remotely ready for them then.

Is this unique to women? Seinfeld was the first thing I thought of. It's a sitcom so things in reality are taken up to 11, but it does hit on things a lot of people run into in their day-to-day life. I don't think this is a gendered issue. Personally, two times I can think of where I lost interest in women: one had an obnoxious laugh, another just dropped an F-bomb out of the blue completely unprompted. Objectively minor things, but still I lost interest ¯\(ツ)/¯ e: I see I'm not the only one to …

That new finding that so many men just haven't even tried asking anyone out in the last year was pretty surprising. I think this is an area where men can't be passive. I'd lean to it being something like that as stats I've seen indicate preference for children is more or less what it's been, as well as the fact fertility seems to be the greatest among the poorest and the richest. You'd expect it to decline with the richest as well, otherwise.
/r/PurplePillDebate27/10/23 11:42 PM

One aspect of the problem, another is a focus on the individual versus the family as the basic social unit, another is the lack of experience many have with children when they themselves are growing up. (I'm seeing a lot of people elsewhere talking about how the first time they held a child was well into adulthood and not say when they were holding a younger sibling, let alone being an older sibling to begin with). Still another the lack of good modeling of parenthood, family, etc. Economic fact…

I don't have an opinion on the napkin math, I just think if someone is going to worry that much about paternity either a) don't get married and/or have sex or b) get a vasectomy If the risk is such a burden to someone they should avoid the risk entirely. I'm not going to buy a house if I think the damn thing is going to collapse on me in my sleep.

And you think this won't be the case later in life? It just gets more expensive and time consuming because older women expect more and more effort. You will also face more rejections as soon as they figure out you're a virgin. Not to mention the pool of potential matches gets smaller and smaller because people who aren't following this advice are pairing off and taking themselves out of the market. This can be especially pronounced if you're in a place where people do this early.

Probably not, buuuuuut I did run into and really hit it off with a woman who was very very similar in a lot of ways. That would've been a great relationship but it's kiiinda hard to compete against a man that'd been dating her ever since they first met as high school freshmen over 13ish years prior. Never had a chance! They've since married so it's great to see things working out for them

Guys kinda know what we are getting into. Or at least accept them. I wish! A friend of mine has a history of picking the sort of people that leave a trail of chaos in their wake. The guy's in his 40s but still hasn't realized this about himself, and now he's dealing with a situation where he has a woman living with him that is physically hitting him. You'd think the fact she lost custody of her kids from a prior marriage would've been a 🚩, or the fact she had to go to court for DV in a different…

Yep, and they just have to find other places or just grin and bear it. I have autism. Do you think I like going out and doing the whole schmoozing thing? No. I'd rather stay at home or be outside or any number of other things. But, I realize I have to do that for networking, social relations, and so on and so forth so I go out and do it. You don't have to play the game if you don't want to, but don't be surprised if you're left out because of it.

Right, but Being non-fat actually only requires calorie control. It requires zero exercise. I was the resident fat kid growing up fwiw. I've lost that weight, gained it, lost it back, etc. I've been fat for more years than not but at the end of the day weight loss comes down to calorie control. You can have a sob story about why you're fat but it simply comes down to eating too much.

External v. internal locus of control. Personally, I think the latter is the better ap…

The below is based around the context of online discussion: Where I think my comment's coming from is I'll see people suggest it in much the same way as Meetup. Like its going to be some cure-all. It can help but as with many things it'll depend on location. A factor could be what people think of when they hear "volunteering." Getting involved in, say, the local Rotary chapter would fall un…

Assuming I don't happen to find anyone, I'd imagine I'd keep pursuing my career and getting involved more with whatever church I'm in. It's worth trying and volunteering is a good thing in and of itself, but he may not meet the sort of people he may want to meet. My experience, and apparently plenty of others from what I've seen, is that volunteering is something old people do. They have the time and energy to volunteer. Team sports sports teammates seem to be very close too. Football buddies seem to buddies for life. This is one of the reasons sport is so important. A good friend of mine was inducted into some state hall of fame for a sport and hearing him and the other inductees share their experiences with that sport—the victories had, the places visited, and most importantly the bonds he had formed and had kept into his late 60s—all from his school and college years. There's probably some discussion to be had over how deliberate it is, but it does seem like older people don't actually want less-aged people in their organization. Individually they'll say otherwise but it doesn't bear out in their actions at an organizational level. Granted, there are other factors at play there too. The need these organizations have for people to be members for long periods of time in specific chapters is directly counter to the necessity younger people often run into with ne…

Ime volunteering is an old person's game. Probably great for meeting people if you're a retiree, but not so much if you're younger. Not to say volunteering isn't good in and of itself, but it's definitely not an optimal way to meet non-retirees. edit: and yeah, a church is very much a 'your mileage may vary' thing. It works for some people but I think the demographic trends and an inability for churches to do anything to encourage family formation among their unmarried population make it a nonst…
