Listen, I'm an attorney, although currently staying at home with our baby and largely doing writing on legal topics in my somewhat limited spare time. But here's some things about divorce: 1) the overwhelming majority use for prenups is to ensure that children from a first marriage will still be provided for and have an inheritance in case of a second divorce. 2) my former Family Law professor used to say, "the number one thing women get out of a divorce is bankruptcy." Women tend to dip below t…

Totally, as a Jewish woman, we broker no shit, lol. Our gendered expectations are quite different then what I see in the mainstream.

Whoa I know a woman exactly like that - she's Jewish, but nearly 6 feet, and was known as a "blond bombshell" back in the 1950s and 60s when she was a singer who toured internationally. Her husband was a short Jewish man. She's a grandmother and goes to my synagogue. Now I'm curious if these are your great grandparents lol.

Yah I'm reading this as a Jewish woman just laughing. We are a short people. Imagine if we were all so viscerally put off by height. Our population would not have survived. (Also side bar I totally know this isn't universal for all Jewish people, but in my small statured curly haired Ashkenazi town, it was very much the case).

First of all, I'm a woman and not someone who has ever been "red pill," but I came to this sub after a female friend got in to reading Laura Doyle and tried to give me her book, and then I became fascinated with the world of "trad wives." However, I am a woman in a very happy marriage with a good sex life, so let me share at least one thing: Learn female anatomy. Seriously, the lack of education out there on how female bodies work is shameful and makes for bad sex. Both men and women lack the vo…

I am sorry you feel this way. Clearly I will not be the one to help you, and I don't know enough about schizophrenia or related disorders to know the right way to speak to help my words make sense to you, but I hope someone in your life will be able to guide you to find help.

May I kindly suggest that you speak with a therapist? You may not realize, but I do wonder based on your language if you may have some sort of condition that's creating paranoia or other delusions. I say this really for your own sake, I would imagine it is difficult to live that way. I think there are medications that could help you take back control of your thoughts and stabilize your emotions. I don't mean to make light of mental health conditions, on the contrary, I think they're crucial to a…

Same, also a woman, I just found out about these online group due to a mixture of life events. I can't read in too much detail their stuff where it's just dripping with contempt for women because it's just too upsetting. But some of the things I have read are completely inconsistent with reality. I'm in a strange situation where I grew up in a blue collar family but recently married, and my husband comes from a way more upper class background than I do, and I am consistently now around basically…

Thanks for that, I appreciate it. You are absolutely correct, and in a way, that is what can be so frightening - having a choice means that the responsibility lies solely on you, and that can feel a bit lonely and a bit intimidating. I will shortly have an MA/JD and had always hoped to work in a think-tank, teach at a law school, or even carry on with a PhD. But so much has changed in my life - my health takes a lot of work, my husband now has an amazing job that can thankfully support us and ch…

Other, I'm a woman who is fairly happy in love and life. Back when I was getting married, someone gave me the book "the Surrendered Wife" as a gift. I read it and felt like most of the advice that could be summed up as "don't micromanage your spouse and respect their autonomy and decisions, " which is just solid advice for both men and women, and I kind of dismissed the rest. But then I discovered that there were these online communities that really liked her book and took more extreme measures …

I definitely don't think a female waitress can date a billionaire. I happen to be part of a very affluent community that works in finance, and in my experience, men who are billionaires or close to that number - in the high tens or hundred of millions - are looking for similarly well educated and ambitious women. I wouldn't say that the woman needs to earn the exact same amount, but for example, I know a chief legal officer of a major investment bank who is married to a renowned professor in her…

If you want help on solving some problems in your family, why not speak to a therapist, especially one who specializes in marriage or child psychology? I don't think you'll find one ideological panacea for your family issues, it would instead be helpful to figure out exactly what your issues are and work from there. Are your children angry and closed off? Are you or your spouse having a difficult time communicating without speaking in an angry or blaming fashion? Are members of the family not in…

It sounds like you need to spend way less time on the internet. It sounds to me like your understanding of feminism comes from social media platforms or other internet content. These platforms work by amplifying the most divisive and inflammatory voices. Basically any conceptual framework, ideology, or advocacy project sucks when your primary interaction with it is through online communities. Maybe read some books on the history of feminism and it's different movements today. If you are in the U…

How did you jump from "if there is something wrong with porn" to "then everyone would be single for the rest of their lives?" You poor lost soul. My husband is just as morally opposed to pornography as I am. Most of the men in his friend group and family feel the same. We are just people who respect women. I would never put up with someone who felt comfortable watching porn, especially while in a relationship. That's normal in my social group. Sorry you haven't gotten to experience respect.

And how much you wanna bet they are "pro-life?" If their idea of equality is subjecting all people to the cruelest things that a subset of people already experience, then I hope they realize they are asking to be force fed ipecac for 9 months, be ripped open from their anus to the opening of their penile head and require stitches, be subjected to a day to multiple days of severe abdominal muscle spasms during which they are bed bound, have their pelvic bone fractured and their pelvic muscles tor…

Yea! I'd say my shul (Yiddish for synagogue for those who don't know) wasn't founded with the exclusive purpose of gender critical and feminist work but that's become a big focus and very integrated in to our services and programs, thanks to us having some amazingly talented clergy and congregants. I grew up orthodox as did many other members of the shul, including a female rabbi who grew up even more orthodox than me. But my shul now has a lot of intellectual and creative sorts, many people who…

Question: is there any female-driven movements to reinterpret/re-appropriate Islam and move it away from patriarchy? I'm Jewish and am involved in something called the "renewal" movement, where we basically try to re-read and re-write texts in a way we think is more feminist and therefore more godly. So for example, my rabbis are women, we have rewritten a number of prayers in our prayer book to use female pronouns both in Hebrew and in the translations. We also have a "regendered" Torah where w…

This is a tough one for me. I'm married to a man who loves that I'm smart - he said it in our marriage vows and talks about it constantly as one of the reasons he loves me. My husband is a treasure, just a really solid good person with a PhD. In general, I've only dated men who I've met in intellectual realms - my last bf before my husband has a PhD in the same field although they were in no way connected to each other. That being said, though I've had luck personally with the few men I've selec…

Thank you! I just found this group, I love how empowering it is, I hope I can help in whatever way I can with my own stories of developing self-respect and setting my standards high and really overcoming a lot to basically get a fairy tale relationship.

When my now-husband and I were living with each other before marriage, we started saying things like "I never want to not do things like this with you!" Wed say that or some variation about relatively simple things, like snuggling at night, making dinner together, etc. Just nice wholesome things. Or we would say things like "wouldn't it be nice to do things like this with each other when we grow old?" After dancing around the bush like this for a bit, my now-husband, then-boyfriend was like, "ok…

Sounds like endometriosis or something else is happening. It sounds like your doctors have been dismissive and don't understand the severity of your pain and symptoms. What you're experiencing isn't "normal" so for them to say "well everything is normal" is already a falsehood on the face of it. I would recommend a hormonal IUD like Mirena, it is life-changing for me and others who have had severe uterine pain and flows. And inquire about Endo and other testing. That won't show up on an ultrasou…

Wow that's really fucked up of your mother, that's just healthcare, so sorry you are going through that, don't know why people think women should live in pain.

I can only speak for what worked in my own life, but I met the man I married while we were both in graduate programs. We were in different degree programs but we both value using our brains and thinking philosophically, care about education and stability, growing ourselves and our futures, creating a firm foundation for as our family unfolds. Obviously we first started dating due to shared interests: research and scholarship, a love of the outdoors, and we had the same religious background and s…
