When my now-husband and I were living with each other before marriage, we started saying things like "I never want to not do things like this with you!" Wed say that or some variation about relatively simple things, like snuggling at night, making dinner together, etc. Just nice wholesome things. Or we would say things like "wouldn't it be nice to do things like this with each other when we grow old?" After dancing around the bush like this for a bit, my now-husband, then-boyfriend was like, "okay love, I think we both know what we really mean when we say things like this. Are we more or less on the same page here, do we mean marriage? And we agreed that's what we were each implying, and it was a scary and exhilarating and lifechanging conversation. Shortly after that, he asked me to keep a Pinterest board of favorite rings, started planning trips for us, and still planned the proposal as a total surprise. With a ring that FAR exceeded my expectations, I must add.

Rogue tactic: give him less of your time and attention, make him feel less adequate and when he asks you why the shift in energy let him know this has been fun but ultimately you have life goals and youre not sure if he fits them. If he wants all of you, he needs ti marry you

I take it from your OP that you saw the video posted earlier today. If you haven’t, check it out. Discussing marriage, but leaving him out of the discussion by saying “my wedding”, “when I get married,” is a great way to begin.

My other piece of advice is this: I did this very same thing that you are about to do now. I dropped hints, I pushed, I followed every piece of advice I could and I eventually gave an ultimatum.

As a result I got married, quickly... to a man who wasn’t who I had originally wanted to propose. It was absolutely the right decision for me ultimately. Following FDS will get you marriage: it does not guarantee marriage to a specific man. You will grow and change: be aware of the possibility that your man will not grow and change with you. He may ultimately not want what you want.

why drop hints and be anxious for a year? It seems like a fearful approach. Discuss your expectations and see if he is on the same page. This will cut the potential drama short and give you a clear picture. Then act according to your plan

Make sure that marriage is truly what you desire with him before you proceed. Forcing it into an already “settled” relationship could create a disappointing outcome.

If that’s the man you want to spend the rest of your life with, he should be responsive to your needs and wants. You should have the trust that he will do anything to make you happy and your relationship work.

So all it should take is a serious discussion that lets him know you’ve changed your mind about marriage and that it’s something you are now considering for the near future.

I’m all about mind games that get you where you need to be but would you really want to be married to a guy that wasn’t planning on marrying you until he was subtly guided there? It doesn’t feel like a solid foundation for a marriage.

Just be upfront. If he wants to marry you, he will propose without any doubts. But if he’s being so-so about it and doesn’t offer you anything solid, it’s best to see other people. You’ve already wasted 3 years on him. If a man wants to marry you, he’ll do it within 2 years absolute max. Don’t be afraid of telling him what your standards are. The right man won’t be scared by it.

I never heard a man complain about his girl not proposing to him. If they want to get married they propose. She refuses? He dumps her. No time, energy and hope wasted on a lost cause, and he doesnt even have a ticking biological clock like we do. I really wonder why in this day and age women still buy into the romance trap that is "waiting for him to propose". We are wasting our precious resources waiting for the sex who is least interested in marriage to pop the question. I find it irrational and only benefiting males to hold on to this patriarchal tradition (which screws countless of women).

If you want to get married - propose! Do it like a dude, get a candy ring and get it over with. The girl worth having will wait for no guy.
