It’s so funny how cheaters think they’re “in love” with their affair partners. They just love the thrill of going behind your back and the attention they’re getting from someone else. They think they see a future with those people. But wait until the reality hits them. Marriage isn’t for those types of people because they like to jump ships.

There are no grounds other than her greed 100%! If there’s anything I’ve noticed in a lot of divorce cases on this sub, it’s that people’s greed knows no bounds. They take and take from you in the relationship, whether it’s financially, mentally, or emotionally. Then, they try to exhaust everything from you during the divorce process since it’ll be their last chance to do so. Anyway, I’m glad the judge assigned to your case is sensible. Hopefully, all goes well for you. In the meantime, hang in …

I’m sorry you’re dealing with this situation, OP. I feel bad for your kids as well. But you did a good job stepping up your game when your wife basically abandoned them. But I’m confused, she wants to get divorced but wants you to stay in a FWB situation? Living in the same house with the kids and all that? Did I get it right? I think it’s best if you get a copy of her BPD diagnosis. Consult a lawyer regarding your assets and how to make your wife leave the house. This environment isn’t just tox…

If this were to happen, then the world will become worse than it already is. The whole point of lawyers going through testing and earning their license is to ensure that they’re qualified to speak for the people whose lives are in their hands. Also, even if AI were to replace lawyers, I don’t think they’d be cheaper. It would be the contrary because they’re new, “knowledgeable,” and cost more resources to operate.

Agree with this. The familiar places become something new. Also, invite some friends over every now and then. I know you might not want to entertain any guests right now, but it keeps you from feeling lonely and helps you make new memories in that house.

I explained to my son, that she is simply incapable to love Oh, he probably knows or will realize later on. Regardless, I don't think it's a good idea to bash your ex-wife to your kid. He's still her mom. It might be true that she's incapable of love, but the truth is hard to carry at that age. It's also pretty contradicting to tell him not to hate her when it's clear that you do. Kids, after all, learn by example. I think the best you can do is reassure him that you'll always be there for him.

Same here. And if we went on a second date, I would ask whether they're willing to split the bill. If not, I get to choose a location/activity that fits my budget (considering her interests and preferences, of course).

Did your friends really open up with that? Regardless of whether you did something or not, don't you think that was insensitive of them? The least they should've done is ask what you think happened and hear you out.

Personally, for my peace of mind, I'll move elsewhere. There's the anxiety of starting all over again, but it's better than feelings suffocated and triggered in your hometown.

The first year, it was really depressing. A few friends asked me to spend the holidays over at their place, but I didn’t want to intrude on their family celebration. It was me and my beer stash against the world. But this became something I regretted because I was just alone with my emotions. So when the next occasion rolled around, I organized a get-together with my single friends. We had a BBQ dinner and played some games.

I don't think I'm in any position to offer you advice on how to make it good for your kids since I didn't have them when I divorced. Hopefully, someone else will comment under this thread.

If you had holiday traditions with your ex-wife or loved spending the occasion with your children, I won’t lie; it’s going to be rough. The best advice I can give you is to surround yourself with supportive people and be present in the moment to drown out the possible loneliness.

It's very simple, really. If you love someone, you don’t think twice about doing things that make them happy or help them out in their day. Glad you’re out of that marriage, OP.

Agree with this. OP doesn't really have to worry if he's not all those things his wife claims him to be. She has no evidence against him, unless she fabricates some stuff. Still, OP can disprove them. He, however, has to prepare his own set of evidence against his wife.

Hmmm it's a bit awkward to message her now since you haven't spoken in years. Also, is she still single right now? She might already have a partner and that'll make things even more complicated. I think you're better off not saying anything to her at all, even if you became really good friends. Just hold on to the topic in case you meet in person and ask each other how you are.

Cheating is abuse, and the entire Blame is on the cheater. Interestingly, this reminded me of Ned Fulmer, the former Try Guy. If you’re not familiar with him, he and his friends used to work at BuzzFeed. When they gained their own following, they decided to establish their own YouTube channel, which is called The Try Guys. Anyway, long story short, he had the image of being head over heels for his wife (always mentioning her on videos), but then he cheated on her with a coworker. He recently rel…

It was awful of her to really go out of her way to just meet other dudes when, whatever problem she had with you or the relationship, she could’ve talked about it, attempted to resolve it, or hell, divorce you with less trauma.

I know someone who’s just like you. Divorce turned him bitter, and at first, his hatred was only directed towards couples. Eventually, it bled down to hating women, in general. As his friend, I had a frank talk with him and suggested counseling because not only is his behavior harmful to others, but especially to himself. Other friends of his also told him the same thing. Unfortunately, he keeps on refusing because he doesn’t see the point of it. But man, I’m telling you, bitterness will kill yo…

What’s your STBX like? I’d be concerned if she finds out her new coworker is seeing you because she might try to defame you. But then again, if you’re a good guy to this new woman, things will still work out in your favor.

Since your kids can’t spend overnights with you, try to constantly show up for them. Take advantage that your stbxw is also prioritizing them over any animosity. If she’s okay with it, you can show up on random days and hang out with the little ones. If staying at her place makes both of you uncomfortable, take them out to a playground or the park. Ask your stbxw if you can drop them off or pick them up from daycare. Make sure that they have a fun time whenever they’re with you. My friend is in …

Right now, those empty rooms reflect your loss and a huge change in your life. But someday, they'll be an opportunity for a fresh start as you fill them with new interests, hobbies, or decors. Things will start looking up. One day at a time.

I also considered asking my family members if they wanted it, but ultimately rejected the idea because, you know, why would they want something that holds bad memories? I decided to sell it. But there are places that offer to repurpose wedding rings to create a new piece, and now that I think about it, that could be a good heirloom.

At first, I kept it. I hid it somewhere I couldn’t easily see it. When I moved on from the divorce, I didn’t see the point of owning the ring anymore, so I sold it. One of the best decisions I’ve made because it helped fund a trip abroad.

Some people really have the biggest audacity to show up in places where they shouldn’t. But as one commenter already said, be patient. It won’t be a good look for you if you cause a scene, especially with your kids present. If anything, it’ll only make them think that maybe your outburst is the reason why their mom left you for another. So, try not to give them that idea.

Can definitely see why this makes sense. But I think in OP's case, the dude knew she had a family. And leaving his own for her, knowing full well it's wrong, is also pretty screwed up of him. So, I think he deserves the blame as well.

Ask for advice from a REALLY good lawyer, and try not to let her know. You would want to know how to secure your assets and get to them without her finding out. Then you file for a divorce.

They're out there trying to justify their choice, while you've moved on and have achieved peace of mind.

🤨??? This is literally my reaction after reading this. What did she think was going to happen? That you’d say, “Yeah. Go ahead and make a dating profile to test out your theory"? She thinks she’s a researcher. Now you’re the bad guy because you gave her valid reasons why she shouldn’t. You’re not divorced, but I hate to tell you this, buddy, you might end up there someday. It seems like your wife is just finding reasons to cheat, argue, or break up your marriage.

I didn't delete photos of me and my ex-wife on social media. I'm on dating apps/sites and have linked my social media profile. I wanted to let potential matches know the kind of life I had, so they know what they're getting into when they swipe right or message me. But there's really no hard-and-fast rule. If you want to delete your old posts/pictures together, go ahead. It might spark drama, but if not seeing them hurts less, then I think that's the only reason you need.

I agree with u/Boliviascott. You should continue to be the great dad that you are. Your son likely cares less about the money and more about your presence in his life, whether you attend his games and recitals or play his favorite video games with him during the weekend. After all, he's with you 70% of the time. Besides, if you don't choose him now, you might come to regret it years later. Suddenly, he's all grown up. Or in the worst-case scenario, he's not talking to you anymore. You can still …

Summer, Christmas, your birthday, and the list goes on. The first year after I got divorced was when I spent the loneliest birthday ever. It sucks, really, how the day you’ve been looking forward to and had the best memories of is suddenly the worst. Christmas and New Year's were even more of a struggle because people were spending them with their respective families. Some friends offered to let me crash at their house for the night, to do the countdown and all that. But I didn’t want to intrude…

Quite innovative! I agree that it's definitely a better use than making yourself look like a Ghibli character lol What prompt did you use for this? Also, I'm sure that ChatGPT can present grounded theories/arguments. But be careful not to get stuck in an echo chamber. AI only bases its answer on what you ask of it and tends not to stray away from that, so there might be perspectives/advice that it might not be able to give you.

Consistency. Plenty of daters don't know what they want. They state on their bio that they're looking for a long-term relationship. Then, in the bottom section, they state that they're also open to casual relationships or hookups. So, if a woman knows what she wants, then I'm also likely to swipe right.

I beg to differ. I suggest that you read The Charisma Myth by Olivia Fox Cabane. She states that charisma is learned and explains how you can develop it using presence, power, and warmth.

And I also think I get more long-lasting attention, like people who are interested in furthering a relationship (romantic or platonic). As they say, what’s the use of an attractive face if they can’t offer anything to the table? Being interesting makes them want to get to know more about you, and this fuels their fantasies of what you’d be like in a relationship.

I don't think it's the kind of behavior a lonely guy would put up with; more like a desperate one. There's a difference but these traits can often be found in one person. Anyway, it's already a lonely relationship if a partner behaves this way, so it's not a reach if the former would much rather be by himself again.
