Thanks for the positive words, man. I think you're absolutely right but I just moved back to the city for work, am self employed so no coworkers, and only have 3 or 4 friends in the city. They've been friends for a while but their constant negativity is dragging me down. It's like be lonely and push on, or have friends who shit on me constantly?

I've been blowing up friendships left and right lately. It has got me thinking maybe I'm acting a fool, but I'm just sick of the constant disrespect. I know a lot of my friendships are based on busting balls, but it's like the harder I work on improving myself, the more pushback from others. Meanwhile, I'm trying to keep positive thoughts flowing so I can stay motivated, and it's like I'm ultra sensitive to negativity. I'm ranting, but it's been a shitty couple weeks in the social circle

Absolutely nothing. Honestly, it sounds like a form of jealousy or resentment that he doesn't have the balls to do it himself.

That's an extremely narrow view of things, like nobody has espoused the virtue of travel before? I took a year off the career path to travel and recently came back to the same job a way better person. If your whole life is career focused, you're going to wake up one day bitter and miserable

Hah, don't compete. Up your game and you'll do fine. There's plenty of beautiful women in Boston to go around.

I would do this often in my last LTR but it just would end up in us not talking for days. We were both stubborn people and it eventually killed our relationship, so I dunno if I'd recommend it

I spent the past year backpacking around the world, and I was alone for a good portion of it. There were a lot of times I relished in just going to the nearest bar alone and posting up and having a few drinks, not really there for the women, but just to reflect on my trip or life in general. It was in these times I would ALWAYS end up meeting someone new, whether a curious local or a traveling girl. One of my friends from home said I should have called my blog "Vagaboning" and made it into a por…

Solid post. TRP should be about being a real man and not berating women for being inferior or any of this other neckbeard bullshit. A man who thinks people are beneath him is too attached to his ego. Real men are humble and just get shit done, period.

I'm self-employed too and have been getting up at 6:30ish to commute to the city. What time are you usually in bed? I can't fall asleep before midnight it seems, so I'm running on constant sleep deprivation.

I live in Mass. and the CCW class is a joke. I had shot before with friends, but it was in this guy's basement and I was the only person taking it. We bullshitted for a half hour, and then he had some model guns that we practiced loading and clearing. A couple recommendations and three months later, I can legally conceal a firearm on my person. But I was coming here to say that you need some zero sum days every once in a while -- trust me. I work 50-65 hours a week, and it's necessary to let you…

Without getting too philosophical in TRP, I believe the only real self-realization you can ever have is the deconstruction of the ego. Beyond that, any realization you make is your ego interfering with what you truly are, passing judgement (either negative or positive) on your character and itself. The only self-realization is that there is no self.

Thanks for the insight. I read about and practiced Buddhism when I was over in Southeast Asia, but it's amazing how quickly the lessons fade when you're back in American culture. I'll definitely check it out.

My past oneitis was a beautiful Christian girl that I had wrapped around my finger. She told me, however, that she was waiting for marriage and all this BS, so naive me at 21 broke it off with her because I wasn't about to wait. Meet up with her a few years later after running into her at a funeral (I know...) and one of the first things she says to me is how she hates birth control and not using condoms just so the guy's dick can feel better. I was like Wut? She had a boyfriend at the time, too…

Dude, I'm a court reporter, a field that is pretty much dominated by women (I'd say around 80% women). Who gives a shit? My boss is a dude, he seems to like me, he pays me very well, and I do the job better than probably most of the stenos out there. He also likes that it's no drama with me. He sends me on a job; he knows he'll get an accurate, timely, and professional transcript with zero complaints from me. A job doesn't define you; your attitude does.

One of my best friends is getting married to his long-time girlfriend next year (they met in high school). They've been together for a decade and the time has finally come for him to wife her up. She's a pretty solid catch, and I love her like a sister, but I drop TRP ideas on him all the time. He's pretty down with it, too, and he understands he has to maintain his frame, be dominant, all that stuff, if this has any chance of success. Not all our friends are chodes.

I have a weird story bout that. A couple of weeks ago I met a beautiful Japanese girl out at a bar. She's into traveling; I've traveled all over. So we hit it off. Get her number, text her a few days later, and arrange to meet up that Thursday at a bar. Thursday comes and I've got the 24-hour stomach bug. I still go to work but leave early. I text her when I leave, just something to get her attention. No response. So I give a quick call. No response, but I didn't leave a message. So at this poin…

Good. Feel your anger. Let it flow through you. You probably feel like a jackass gt35r, like you got played by every one in your close circle of friends and girlfriend, but take it as a life lesson. I've never been cheated on (to my knowledge) but the more I read of this place, the more it all resonates and makes sense. Just don't go full bitter and give up entirely. There are good girls out there; they're just really, really hard to find.

I can't stand when I stand there like a doofus holding a door open for somebody and they don't say "Thank you." It's common fucking courtesy, but I would say 99% of the time it's women who can't muster up the energy to say thanks, like it's my job as a male to hold the door for her fat ass. So I always make sure I yell "YOU'RE WELCOME" just to hopefully spur some kind of reaction. Hasn't yet, but I can wait.

Hey, Jon, I enjoyed your article, but then I followed the link to the mistakes you made. I'm curious why you list taking a gap year and going to college as mistakes. I took a year off at 27 to spend a year traveling, and it was the best decision of my life. Granted, like you, I didn't really focus on self-improvement, but it was a side effect of my travels anyways. I grew tremendously during that year, and although I didn't plan my re-entry too well (trying to get my old job back as we speak), I…

Can confirm, just got back from seven months of solo travel; four in Europe and three in Southeast Asia. While I agree that I can be social in pretty much any situation now, it's almost to the point where I dislike talking about it. Everyone always tells me they're jealous and they wish they could travel; I tell them they can if they have low standards and do it cheap. Other than that, people want to hear some crazy stories or my friends will brag about how much I've traveled. I don't know, almo…

Hey Mark, I have never heard of you before, and I subscribe to this subreddit just for the few solid posts that sporadically appear, but you actually seem like an intelligent, decent human being. i was just reading a little of your blog as well, and it's very well done; far superior to most "pick-up" blogs -- ALPHA DAWG! This is more of a lifestyle question, as we seem to have similar interests. I moved out of my house at 24 and was living on my own for a few years. At 27, I ran into some anxiet…

Humans have an amazing capability called adaptability. I'm sure there are things in your life that you've tried having no previous knowledge or experience beforehand. How'd they turn out? Yeah, I'm sure you sucked the first few times, maybe even into the tens of times; but you eventually realize your mistakes, and you learn and grow. You're not going to learn and grow wallowing in your own self-pity. Get the hell off your ass and get out there, experience the world, embarrass yourself; learn, gr…

I guess my only issue would be to show her you have her back by empathizing but not trying to fix situations. I always think of a relationship as kind of a team effort to life. If I possess a talent or key to a situation, it would be stupid not to use it to help her. For example, I had an ex who sucked at grammar. She could barely string a sentence together, and I happen to work in the editing business. So naturally I told her that I'll proof her reports, and we'll get through this together. Sam…

Probably some of the best advice I've ever read in Seddit. Everything seems so focused on rehearsed material and robotic actions to #-close and F-close when everyone should be focused more on being a real man that can hold real relationships. Great write-up.

Couldn't agree more. I think that's what it is. One of the constants is that girls like confident leaders, but confident leaders are also attracted to confidence in women as well. I like a girl who feels okay doing her own thing and doesn't need a man to be fulfilled. To me saying you need to be led conveys weakness.

I had a girl tell me she "NEEDS to be led." I know all girls like to be led, and I am a natural born leader (I think), but for some reason, this was a huge turnoff to me. Anyone have any input as to why?

BRO ADVIDE: BAD IDEA. I'm glad to see your update. You're truly a stronger man than I. I had the same thing happen to me a couple months ago. I had been ignoring my ex for a YEAR, and then I went to her grandfathers wake and we caught up. She asked me if I wanted to get beers later that night; I reluctantly agreed. I ended up falling for her again, and she for me; but she has a boyfriend, and I don't have faith. She tells me it'll never work, I'm crushed for a week or two, and I let her gain con…

Personally, I think you're mind-fucking it. You know what needy is, and if you don't, if you were needy, girls would let you know. It's basically seeking validation for your actions or not being in control of your emotions. You can be vulnerable and even shed a man tear and not be seen as needy by a woman, but if you're calling her twice a day and texting her in between, that would turn most women off. If you feel like you're being needy, create some space, do your own thing, and just let it flo…

Thanks dude for the exceptional reply. It's like reading exactly what I already knew deep down, but just had to rationalize. I've known her forever, since she was in sixth grade, and I've seen her grow up; but she's still the scared, confused girl she's always been. She does have the most amazing heart though, and that's what I've always been attracted to. It doesn't help that she's an HB9, very active, very fit, and we have amazing chemistry, but part of me had already come to terms that the fa…

Solid observation. She def knows I wanted to kiss her, though, even though she's usually the one to bring up that we never kissed. She's made it well known that she wanted to kiss me, but I knew, at the same time, that she was in a relationship and I'm not that type of dude.

It started out that way, with no intentions of anything more. But things don't always work out the way you want, and seeing her definitely sparked things up again. However, I was still okay with just being there for her during these troubling times, but she was the one that called me and told me she can't do it.

When I realized this was more than just friendship feelings she still had for me, I made it very clear that I would enjoy taking her out on a real date again. Faith has just been a huge contention between us, and she's unwilling to compromise. I could care less, unless you're drink-the-koolaid crazy, I'm more in it for the chemistry; but not for her.
