Coming from a long line of failed marriages, I get this so much! I thought I would never get married and never have a family. I realized when I was older that I was just afraid to repeat the awful cycle my family fell into. I figured it was safer to just go at it alone. You can heal and break generational curses. It’s just a bit harder for us. I found it helpful to find “models” for families I know in real life that I can look up to. Nobody is perfect, but I needed to see a family structure that…

A ton of therapy and reading about trauma. The better you can understand it, the better you will cope with your reactions to things. I always felt sort of out of place, but in my later 20s I feel at home in myself. I didn’t teach myself any of the toxic patterns, but I an responsible for unlearning them. Adult friendships are harder to make and keep up with, but find something that you want to do repeatedly and there you’ll find some friends. You are already so much on the right track!

Just watch Grey’s Anatomy and do the exact opposite of everything Meredith does. Seriously though when I was younger I watched that show and thought wow what a love! Now I’m just embarrassed for her.

I feel like they are not in a relationship, but rather in the idea of what they think the relationship is or could be. Both parties have to have some reason for staying in it. I imagine it’s very fun and exciting if you get to see someone maybe twice a year, but at that point why not just call it a FWB? If one person doesn’t plan to relocate to pursue the relationship, it is destined to fail. Great way of explaining it in your post!

I’m glad you’re here and free of all that mess. Try not to feel too guilty. I’m sure you were manipulated to hell and back. Therapy helps! It takes time to trust yourself again. It does get easier and some things seem hilarious in retrospect. I could start a circus if I rounded up all my exes.

Let’s all just have a good laugh and be thankful we didn’t get what our former selves wanted at the time. One thing I realized is that I never want to be in the position again of begging someone for communication or affection. If you have to ask, run away!

I was in the same boat. I thought I was okay with detached and meaningless FWB’s. I realize now it was just low self esteem and not wanting to believe I could have someone that would want to be in a relationship with me. The mind plays crazy tricks on us! You’re doing great! You’ve got this figured out now!

The new term for this is breadcrumbing. There are a ton of great articles about it. Men do this to keep you thinking about them, making you think there is something there, without having to put forth any actual effort. They don’t make any plans to see you in person. They just string you along. It’s really a complete waste of time. If I talk to someone for a week and they don’t want to meet me for a date, what on earth is the point of continuing? If someone is not excited to see me, I don’t feel …

My family and some acquaintances have been the ones to vaguely say that my standards are too high. It can really make you question yourself and your judgement. The handbook helps to solidify these beliefs that I am worth more than a shitty date and the bare minimum effort. Even if I am not the most conventionally attractive woman, I can have standards. I’d rather be alone than be in a relationship that is unfulfilling.

I saw a girl on my Facebook timeline who posted that she was so happy she just got engaged... she has twins with the guy. Like what the actual fuck. Do you know what twins does to the body? And he just now wants to marry her after the fact. The worst part is she thinks it’s normal and is happy about it.

Gosh I got so pissed off once when a guy came to buy something from me on Facebook marketplace. We started negotiating over the price and he asked me if I my husband was home. I said no because I’m not married, take the price or leave it. The audacity of these fuckers is through the roof. I get so sick of it. I wish they could live one day in a woman’s shoes.

Yes! I know a guy from a local AA group who met someone at a meeting and later paid her for sex. I assume she was at a low point in her addiction. He’s supposedly been sober for years. These kind of men look for weak women who are vulnerable. Nobody in AA should be dating someone newly sober.

I’m sorry to tell you this, but if you’re already at this point, it’s probably time to dip out. What is 30 days going to change? Do you want someone you have to beg to treat you well? Props to you for recognizing the behavior and demanding better, but I don’t know if it’s worth your energy.

I think the real reason she made that post was because she didn’t like the advice she got here when she made the post asking for advice. Trying to move in with a man she barely knew who hadn’t even asked her to move in. Trying to adapt to his needs and not putting her son first in the situation. It’s tough love here sometimes, but I’d rather hear the advice before I make a mistake.

This goes right along with the “I can’t leave her because of the kids” logic. They keep a woman around and treat her like garbage because she provides stability, meanwhile they are still able to do everything they want. It’s disgusting, but honestly it’s the women who allow it by not setting the bar higher and not leaving when this kind of treatment is a pattern.

Olivia Pope from Scandal. I LOVED this show when I first watched it. On the rewatch a few years later I realized she is just standing around waiting for years for Fitz to leave his wife. She is a boss in every other aspect of her life, but she lets this man control her. I actually thought it was a great love story back then. 🤮

I think this is why setting standards is so important for those of us who grew up in home environments where we never saw a healthy relationship. My mom has been married 4 times. It’s hard for me to even trust new people. You are not broken. You might just have to spend a little more time exploring healthy relationships and spend time with a therapist. I literally told my therapist I don’t know what a relationship is supposed to look like, can you help me learn? If our parents didn’t show us, it…

You really want to give him 3 chances? The letter came after you were gone. It took losing you for him to apologize and promise to change. I think it will be hard in the short term to cut this off, but much better for you in the long term. You seem to be mentioning him a lot and his feelings. I could be in a relationship right now. Let’s face it. We probably all could. However, that’s not the relationship I NEED to be in. There are men who will not rise to what you need. It isn’t your job to train them into what you want them to be. It’s your job to fucking flee your ass away into a better life. Working out with a taser or pepper spray might help. You can get a really good taser from Amazon for $30. I’m also 5 ft. with RBF and I run at night. Sometimes past restaurants and bars. What has really surprised me about having friends who are married with kids and a husband is how the husband gets praised for doing basic things to raise his own children. Women literally brag and say oh he made them dinner, he picked them up from school, he practiced softball with them... uh yeah no shit what did you think he was supposed to do? Meanwhile a woman does everything and it is just her job and wifely duty. That shit is for the birds.

Literally one of the best posts I’ve ever seen here. You have to be 100% content and genuinely happy in your own life. A partner should add value to your life and enrich it. Unfortunately many men only see women for what they can take from us until they drain us emotionally and sometimes even financially. We are the fucking prize. If men insist on treating us like property, at least own the fact that we are what they are all striving for. They want us to need them and when we don’t need them, th…

The type of guy taking you on a coffee date sees it as very casual and a low investment with a high potential for return. A man who wants to take you on a real date has shown you his interest and some commitment to impressing you. That is the first step towards showing you who he is. Not saying that LWM can’t take women on dates, but it is the best way to weed out the bad ones early! If he only thinks enough of you to spend $5, that’s probably not a good sign.

It really reads like a history of recent events that have shaped the US we live in now and how the past relates to what is currently happening. There are mentions of artists like Beyoncé and her contribution to the angry female narrative in her Lemonade album. There is a chapter on the 2016 election and Harvey Weinstein and the #metoo movement. Of course you have the author’s opinion sprinkled in throughout the book. Thank you! I will pay closer attention as I’m reading. I just did not realize saying non male and non white was offensive. I have not seen it mentioned in other reviews. Journaling, workout, allow yourself to be sad and watch a sad movie. Notice the feelings and realize they are just feelings and they will pass.

It is so important that we surround ourselves with the type of women who support women’s empowerment. Not everyone in our life is going to have the same philosophies, but try to be around people who inspire you and people who make you feel like you can achieve anything you set out to. I have had a close circle for many years now. The way they listen and speak to me when I share my ideas and goals is the main reason we have stayed friends for so long.

Well I got a flood of hate comments so I disabled, but then I realized I can just block each person and remove the comment, so I’m going to do that. I want people who actually want to discuss it to be able to. I swear they say they are “going their own way” yet they are obsessed with everything we do.

Last minute cancellation is really a disregard for your time and energy that you were willing to put into the date. It shows a lack of character and that he feels like even if he does that, you will still accept that behavior. Prove him wrong!

Yes! I have had so many boyfriends who ate my groceries and never contributed anything! Had one that would come over to my house 4-5 times a week and fix food. Looking back I realize that I never got a meal from him and we went dutch on dates most of the time. Ughh... glad that’s over.

I’ve gotten a lot of nasty pm’s on YouTube and Reddit and it’s only been a few hours since I posted this. What’s funny is they want us to be silent. It scares them when we educate ourselves to raise our standards. They keep hitting the dislike button on my video, but all that does is boost me in the YouTube algorithm so more people will see the video. The hilarious thing is they just keep calling me fat. Like that’s the best insult they can come up with.

Hey guys! I hope this video will be helpful for you. I will probably get a lot of trolls to my YouTube channel for this, but I wanted to start making FDS inspired videos to help women raise their standards! This is really my first video like this. Constructive feedback would be great.

Yes another perspective I use sometimes is, what if this were my daughter? What would I want her to do and what advice would I give? Would I be okay with her spending time with this kind of guy? Is he good enough for her? I don’t have a daughter, but my fictional daughter has very high standards!

This is one of the best explanations I’ve seen for why we don’t pay for dates. Men need to prove themselves in many ways before you start trusting them. Financial security matters! A long term partner who is not willing to spend money on you will lead to many disappointments. Take it from someone who has always dated guys who had a job, but never seemed to have enough money to buy my food, pay for movies, concert tickets, etc. I have spent a lifetime of going dutch and it does not pay off. This is a really off putting way of stating your standards. You know your rules. He doesn’t need to know them line by line. Personally I wouldn’t be interested in someone who said this because it comes off as very entitled. Delivery is everything. I think I had this realization in the last year too. I only saw myself in the context of my family and how I fit into it. Now that I haven’t lived with them in years and have limited contact with them, I feel a new sense of self. I am deciding my own values and standards. It’s a very good thing, but sometimes feels a bit odd. Like I am paving a new road, a much nicer road leading to a better place, but I’m doing all the work on it by myself.

There is no way I would go to a male therapist. I only did once and knew it was a bad idea after 2 sessions. There is no way for him to understand the female experience and psyche. I had 3 relationships with older men in my early 20s. They 36, 36, and 40. Let me tell you there is nothing normal about someone almost twice your age trying to date you. There is something wrong with them or things have gone very poorly for them. The fact that they are more attracted to someone who could be their daughter speaks volumes about their character. I have never been broken up with, but I have broke up with guys and then gotten back together because they basically begged me and promised to change. Plot twist, they never fucking change. Once I am done with someone and decide it’s over, I emotionally leave the relationship. I’m so sorry this happened to you. This is why the whole “make him wait” thing is around. It’s hard when you are drinking, but getting drunk on a first date is not really a good way to assess someone. It sounds like he knew he was not into you on the date, but realized you were drunk enough to have sex with him. That’s really shitty, but unfortunately the nature of men. Look for someone’s actions, not their words.

Men love to say they’ll change once you threaten or go through with a breakup. You don’t want someone you have to change. If the only time he values you is when you are leaving, he doesn’t actually care.

I seriously see so many women picking up after a man. It is not your job to wash his clothes, get groceries, cook meals, remind him to do things, or support him emotionally when he is giving you fuck all in return. You want someone who will be your partner, not your dependent.
/r/FemaleDatingStrategy19/11/19 04:45 AM

It sucks to see your family make bad choices, but it’s really not your responsibility to try and fix it. Just lead by example. If you criticize him too much she will feel like she can’t talk to you about it.

Men are simple creatures. They do not get hints or passive aggressiveness. You told him you only like him sometimes. Tbh from reading your comments it seems like you might need to work on yourself some more emotionally before you are ready to attract a HVM. You are too heavily involved in the outcome of something that is not even working after 5 dates. He does not sound like a winner from what you are describing.
/r/FemaleDatingStrategy17/11/19 04:05 PM

What strikes me as the biggest red flag is him giving you an ultimatum and a strict timeline. That is not really how getting into a relationship is supposed to work. He’s basically saying give me what I want now or I will move on to the next girl who will. Personally I think this is a great reason to withhold sex because it really helps you weed out guys like this.
/r/FemaleDatingStrategy17/11/19 03:54 PM

Do you go on actual dates now? It sounds more like casual sex where he has made you agree to only sleep with him but not provide you the emotional benefit of being your boyfriend. So he’s got what he wants. What do you want?

Yikes. He is definitely not taking care of himself. Good idea to confirm current looks before wasting time on a date. Another thing that drives me crazy are voices. If I don’t like someone’s voice, I just cannot find them attractive. A quick phone call is nice sometimes before you meet someone, especially if you’ve only been talking over a screen.
/r/FemaleDatingStrategy17/11/19 03:10 AM
7

He does not respect you. A good guy would be trying to make a good impression in front of your sister. He doesn’t care that it upset you, otherwise he would apologize. He knew it was not a good thing to do. Men are stupid, but not totally oblivious. If someone leaves me on a date for more than a 5 minute phone call, I would probably not want to go on any more dates with them. We all have things that come up in our lives that we have to take care of, but it doesn’t take 30 mins.
/r/FemaleDatingStrategy16/11/19 02:15 PM

Get thyself to therapy! I mean this with the most kindness, but you are being really hard on yourself and doubting yourself too much. Drinking on every date is off-putting to any normal person. And definitely slow down on the sexy stuff. You will be okay! Just make sure you take the time to know yourself before you try to find a partner.

Yes I love this book! Another great passage in that book about resolving problems or healthy arguing within a relationship, can’t remember exact wording. It helped me realize that it is totally possible to have a loving partner who will talk to you about issues instead of gaslight you or blame it all on you. Good coupes can disagree without blowing up on each other or playing the blame game.

So just a question, did you actually like spending time with him? Usually the first red flag is not an action but rather a feeling in our gut that something is not right with this person. I’m glad you got away!

Opinions on dating ranges? I am 25 but always feel like I can’t connect with guys my own age. At the same time I wind up dating people a decade older than me and there’s a weird dynamic there. I just wish men weren’t so immature. Logistically I don’t want to have a family with someone who is that much older than me. Maybe you guys can weigh in?

I like this one and I also like the “would you want him to be the father of your children.” It’s so simple and primal and when you ask yourself this about ANY guy you will almost always come up with an automatic answer. Sadly the answer is usually no.

Can you give some context to the dating so far?

“It takes not much to get here” uhhhh well then you can probably make it to see the woman then jackass. He doesn’t want a date. He just wants a $3 cup of coffee to lead to you fucking him at his house, on his time, and at your driving expense.

Yes I wish I would’ve had to this advice a decade ago. We waste so much time when we don’t cut things off early enough. Little things we don’t like about someone, red flags, incompatibility for long term, not physically attracted to them, these are all reasons to walk away early and not waste your time. You can’t meet the man you are wanting if you stay with a guy that you are settling for.

That is coming on really strong for a first date.

I am currently at happy hour alone :) but definitely not here to meet guys, just to enjoy myself at my favorite bar. A lot of people come here in the evenings so I get to catch up with the working professionals and hooligans in my town.

I would also like to know this as I live in a very small area and the selection here seems to be picked over. Facebook local events, meetings for causes you care about, meeting a guy through mutual friends.. these are a few I can think of. I have personally never met any quality guys from OLD and I'm very selective with matches.

Yes I was recommended the WMLB from my own mother! As well as the "Why Men Marry Bitches." They are great reminders of the power dynamic in a relationship and how women can use it to their advantage.

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
