I understand the premise, but to be a stickler this is simply not correct. Basic thermodynamics. Working out burns calories. Burn more then you eat, regardless how much you eat and what you eat. I'm 8% bf at 6'1" 225. I eat over 4k daily including pies donuts fries and do 0 cardio. But I train 7 days a week and sometimes hit doubles.
