You don’t ask for a divorce, you inform the other person that one will be taking place. While you desire for it to be amicable, you’re only in control of your side of that.

You don’t “want one” and you don’t “ask for one”, you explain to the other person that there will be one.

The pivot that you have to make is that you now have a chance to initiate and control your own emotions. Your negative trigger - the primary one - is gone. By harboring hate, you are allowing her to live in your head. The past is what it is, you’re both going to remember it differently. Let it be your past. Live “forward”, not backward.

My ex prayed for me to die on a business trip every time I traveled. I mean, for a decade. Why? Because she would get a bigger payout then and wouldn’t have to “deal with me” anymore. (She was diagnosed BPD, committed twice). I had no idea she was telling the kids all of this… for many years. We had to do a lot of healing when the marriage was done.

She is 54, we were married 21 years, she left early in 2014. She left for a former high school boyfriend who was also divorced. She accused me of being emotionally abusive. I wasn’t a perfect man, but I certainly didn’t abuse her. She left for a guy who is verbally abusive by all accounts (including my adult children’s accounts). So no, she isn’t better off. Alimony paid for a nice lifestyle while she finished school, something I had encouraged her to do. They married when alimony was complete. …

If you think love is a feeling, it will come and go. Love is a choice, and a verb. Nothing that is based primarily on feelings can last, because they change… and for some, they change on a whim.

This would be the area where a prenup would be necessary. Now, nothing punitive (direct penalties) will hold up in court but some interesting clauses can work. Listen to podcasts from James Sexton. No fault divorce exists because punitive action can keep people in abusive relationships.

My wife and I have difficult conversations scheduled and I have stopped sleeping with her already. She has wounds from her past that tell her “he only wants you for your body”, and while that’s untrue for me, I won’t wound her further by taking advantage during this time.

So you make 30k a month gross, give or take. You’re paying 37% and then 33% for less than half the marriage. Makes sense by the numbers. Fair is a place you go with pony rides and elephant ears. State law is what it is. If you are a breadwinner, do not get married.

You are 46. It’s time to think about lifespan and quality of life within that lifespan. Exercise is good for efficient serotonin use, overall health, mTOR pathway shutdown (anti-aging). Think about mixing in some intermittent fasting (more anti-aging). Anti-aging isn’t about “being attractive to women”, it’s about maintaining your quality of life and cognitive ability as late as possible into your total lifespan. People ask “why do people blindside each other”? This is the reason. Telling her “I’m done” lets her file on you, with a lawyer, if she’s been thinking about it. The negotiations start with what she put on paper rather than what you you wrote down.

Element of truth here. For me, my previous marriage i trusted her to tell me about my emotions (note to you: don’t do that) and, as such, when she told me that i was the reason for our marriage failing (temper, yelling, harsh, narcissist, etc), I trusted her… it was my fault. Now, that only lasted until I found that she had been cheating for months.. and never mind that I am not a narcissist and am incredibly even-tempered and poised… i believed it all. It actually doesn’t matter if good women exist, a good marriage agreement does not exist. You can do what you can with prenups and such, but the fact is, the marriage “contract” isn’t one and people can choose to walk away anytime for any reason, and potentially get paid to. Entanglements, legal or emotional will hurt you over time. Only you can decide if it’s worth it.

Read this sentence “I chose peace instead of standing up for myself”, now, go look in the mirror and decide to be who you are. Totally get it man. My wife walked out after 21 years. It took me 6-8 weeks to remember that I had built a life that included her instead of thinking “21 years gone, half my life, everything I built, it isn’t worth it”. It isn’t everything you built. “Lost” is an interesting concept. If you “lose” it, you never really had it to being with, so… I mean, existentially unless it was part of YOU. So, invest in your body and your mind (things you’re unlikely to lose). Invest in your mental health and knowledge (of self and external topics). Get a dog if your apartment allows it. A prenup is less enforceable than ever (in the US). If you give away rights to things state law says you can’t (increase in equity after marriage on house, 401k, etc) you’ll sometimes get the entire thing thrown out.

At best they will be an adjunct, a support structure. It is incredibly rare (I haven’t seen it in 50+ years) to find a woman who would be an actual partner. They aren’t wired to get along, they are wired for “always watch for something better”, rather than “true love and develop what you have”.

Your woman will always be the youngest teenager in the house. It is draining and confusing that women have not been expected to mature and become adults (emotionally and mentally). Let me tell you something, it’s cheaper to buy what you’re looking for in a wife. Pick what you value and I guarantee that it’s cheaper to buy. Now, if you say some version of “true love”… skip it. Women, pets, and kids are loved unconditionally; men are loved based on what they can provide. My point is, the typical person has an income that goes into a bank. When you take money from that account to turn it into assets, there is a record of that.

So, for everyone that says “hide your assets”, can you please explain how? That is, for the average Joe with a salary / hourly wage job… how exactly does one move money so that it isn’t found? Most companies require direct deposit. Every move out of that account is tracked. Talk me though it folks… Even the self-employed have revenue reported on a tax return.

Yes I would, but I’m not an introvert. Yes, depending on your personality / mental makeup, changing geography can be effective in resetting your base mental state. It also comes with the stress of the move, learning everything again (local spots, etc). I love that process of discovery.. not everyone does.

We are in this messy middle space in social change right now where many jurisdictions still favor women in terms of custody but assign the breadwinner alimony regardless gender. That is, the state and lawyers have figured out how to get their money before creating actual equality in the law. Perhaps we need /r/DivorceBreadwinner ?

My wife left me after 21 years for an AP, I get it. That said, you can make more money… even now. Don’t get entangled again for a bit, work on overcoming the idea that not having her is equal to having nothing. This world is all opportunity, and you can go after it again. Get the fire back. Look, it’s easy to say, “I spent a lifetime building this family and without it, my life’s work is gone”. A family is a mental and emotional construct. Your kids (if you have them) are still family, you still…

Provided there is a lot of money and that this money was made and hidden during your marriage, a forensic accountant is the course of action you want. Now look, they are fairly expensive… starting at $15,000 or so. There has to be a lot of money and the cost will depend on how clever your wife is at hiding it. If there is less than 50k or she is exceptionally clever, I wouldn’t waste the time.

Only go the “I know she’s hiding money and want to try to prove it” route if you can prove it easily and it’s a lot of money. Forensic accountants will start around $15k for simple investigations. Also, many sources of money are irrelevant. In most states, her parents could give her a house and car for free and these would not factor in at all (if title stayed with parents).

Fact is, I wasn’t happy about it all… the cheating, the leaving, or the payments… but the past never has held my focus for long, the future is what I can affect. Yes, if you take what life cost before the relationship, subtract that from what life costs in the relationship, and divide into that the number of times you engage in sex throughout the year, you’ll often find that you could hire an exceptional professional for that amount… and have money left over. Note: this does not mean I believe that a partner is only good for sex… merely a mathematical exercise that reframes some thinking. When I did the math on this, I came out with near $2,000 per act. …

Listen man… some of it might be PTSD but a lot of it is what we call “learning”. If you get married again, you open yourself up to a greater statistical chance of divorce than it was the first time (and let’s remember that the first time happened). A prenup won’t absolve you of the need to pay alimony based on disparate incomes, the states have simple rules there (in most cases). Any increase since marriage will be split and so on. You haven’t any control over the marriage ending and the numbers…

I reacted this way as well. I am a successful man by almost every measurement, my wife of 21 years cheated and left, and while I wasn’t perfect, I was a “take the high road” sort of person. I still blamed myself for all of it. Very strange. It took a few years of deep work to begin reversing some of the childhood patterns that formed my reactions. There are a specific set of attachment issues (and sometimes personality quirks) that make you react in a “what did I do to mess this up” sort of way. One of the hardest things to do, especially during divorce, is to learn and operate under the truth that “right” doesn’t mean “legal” and that “wrong” doesn’t mean “illegal”. The law is the law and it isn’t just blind to respondent and claimant; it is also blind to right and wrong as ethical terms.

I met my breaking point when, after 21 years of sacrifice for my wife (she had diagnosed bPD) and family she had another affair and left for him. The fact that I had to fork over more than a hundred thousand in cash and pay 3,500 a month for five years was really not the issue. I didn’t love it, but it was the lack of loyalty, the massive change, and the idea that she just didnt want to work for a 21-year marriage that was the issue. The rest is just money and stuff. Men assume that women have the same goals in a relationship as they do; to wit, intimate emotional relationship, close bond (“my person”), and to grow in understanding one another as they grow old. Since many women have a COMPLETELY DIFFERENT set of goals, or a rigid and prescriptive approach to the same goals, men believe that they were duped… they really just assumed and moved ahead.

Children and pets are sometimes loved by women unconditionally. Men are loved for their utility. “ what a misogynistic statement.. you incel…” blah blah blah. Really? A woman can have no job for the duration of a long marriage and it’s never an issue. A man is out of a job six months and he’s gone. Are there women who can love unconditionally? Perhaps, but they are a small minority.

Know what you'll negotiate ahead of time but if you use "I don't want..." sentences in your head... not going to go well. Also, negotiating so that she "doesn't get something", or, "doesn't get it all" is the wrong focus. You're you, negotiate for yourself... not to her detriment.

You’re paying for the child either way. Alimony will feel like nothing compared to living in a miserable marriage (ask me how I know). People say “life is short”, but when you’re in a rough marriage, that is a lie. Life is LONG ... and painful.
/r/Divorce_Men09/08/21 12:03 AM

Frankly, at age 22 I’d walk away from all of it. I wouldn’t agree to any alimony and I’d keep half the 401k. You can start over quite easily at your age. Didn’t see the 2 year old… pay child support and be involved in her life for sure. Do not allow her to move out of state. The court will help you block that.., at least until an order is in place.
/r/Divorce_Men06/08/21 05:16 PM

Divorce immediately. Every day puts you at more risk. She will be “imputed” an income if she doesn’t have one. Minimum wage in your state, or they will look at her earnings over the last 3 years (whichever is more). The difference will be calculated from there. 4.5 years in some states is zero alimony, a few months in others. The longer you wait, the longer you pay.
/r/Divorce_Men06/08/21 05:15 PM

Not in most states. Divorce agreements don’t change, custody arrangements do. Your total paid out in VA will likely be less than what I described above.
/r/Divorce_Men04/08/21 01:20 PM

In most states you’ll pay alimony and in many, you’ll pay for around 40% the length of the marriage. This can be eliminated by a lump sum payment. What state are you in? A basic calculation would come out with - all other things being equal - $1,250 a month from you to her for 3-4 years.

He had to be married to HER to get that… boys, he earned every penny of that money. Tongue in cheek obviously, but we need to equalize all this. Listen, there is still a massive issue and that is not gender-based … “women having to pay” is fun and equal, but the fact that the breadwinner is punitively approached in each case is the main issue. Equality in a broken system is not the goal; fixing the system must be.

Couple questions; 1) did you cheat? If so, she gets to be crazy for a while; 2) are you in a one-party consent state for recording? 3) does she get any crazier than anyone else? A judge might review it, won’t play too strongly unless there is a long pattern of it. I’d talk to her instead and explain that it is destructive and ask her to find another way to vent… then start recording if you can.

I wonder if this will change as women make their own money, have their own careers, and expectations of them become the same as men (in the workplace and economically). It certainly is a fact today. A woman can lose/give up her job and remain married for a lifetime, a man doesn't have 6 months (in most cases). Now, to balance the scales... in these more traditional marriages, women have to provide something as well, and that dynamic isn't healthy either.

Typically your spouse will ask for - and get - what's called "temporary support"... that is, what you pay until they figure out what you're going to pay. Hint: it's never less than the temporary order. Oh, sorry; "Yes, you're going to pay child support and more for that year".

I love it... absolutely... HOWEVER, we still choose and we still can affect the health of our brain over time by making choices. We are still responsible for the actions of our brains. The universe is deterministic at the macro level and we are capable of affecting our own behavior at the micro level (most of us).

I think many people/personalities find it easier to end things if they are angry. To become angry, you generally have to feel like you were wronged. To feel wronged, the other person has to BE wrong. Therefore, the other person is the problem... all of the problem. Many don’t get past this to recognize that there are most often two parties messing it up... because they don’t want to realize that. This keeps them a victim rather than a better integrated human being and is part of why second (thir…

Women speak as if the things they wish were true, already are (about themselves). A reality distortion field if you will. It is much easier to watch what they do - over time - and deduce what they desire and what they are.

My wife did this for literally 20 years... to everyone, including our kids. I didn’t find out until she cheated and left. The good news was, she didn’t try to leverage any of that when she left, she just left to the other fella. What hurts are my kids coming to me as adults and asking questions... and my response is, “Is what she told you consistent to what you know of me”? But she built up a view in her head of me that was wildly different to who I am and how I live. Easier to leave that way i …

Should have divorced her 4 years ago, but you already are coming to that conclusion. Legally your marriage is 8 years long. Pay no lump sum unless she SIGNIFICANTLY discounts it. Do NOT accept promises about custody in the future, push for 50/50 without future constraints. If she tries to hide a marital status, she will get in serious trouble. Child support won't get changed after custody is established unless her income changes significantly. Alimony will end when she marries (in most states).

I hate to tell you that this won't have much effect. If she wasn't involved in the business at all BUT you had children that she cared for... then it's 50/50 right down the middle in many states.

We are what we repeatedly do, and we become what we repeatedly do. I don't pretend to know how many times we set our minds to the act of "becoming" something, embody the identity and then work it out in ourselves versus how many times we make a plan and do a thing again and again until we wake up one day and our identity has caught up... but I would guess that both are possible. I think the "setting your mind ahead of the task" is likely more mindful...

Women get an emotion and then see everything through that lens as long as they can hold on to - or are gripped by - that emotion. Men are far more intentional - in life and with emotions - so that they can deepen them over time. Men's emotions have meaning that develops over time and women have emotions that control them for a time.

I would posit that most are - however - merely ignorant of their drives that motivate their behavior. (most men are guilty of this as well)

Women who desire (or are even willing) to have second multiple times a day do exist, though rare. That will also change dramatically through time. There are also those who believe that such a woman cannot be faithful, though I think that’s an overreach. If a man who desires sex multiple times a day can be faithful, so ought a woman be able to, Is it reason enough? Up to you. I’d say so, calculate the cost.

First, grief when there is major change is normal. 6 months on with zero improvement is hitting danger zone. Second, your main issue is that you lived for her and not for you. You need to care what YOU did today, what YOU got done, how YOU feel. Make that your goal, not someone else. Once you can do all that for YOU, then think about caring for others again. Don't care for others as a proxy for your own meaning.

Suicide is a permanent option for temporary problems. While it is true that many suicidal men "learn to live for their girl", this is incredibly unhealthy for the reasons that you state here. You gotta get healthy for you and it is sometimes a tough and long road, but it is successful and you will have a long and healthy life after getting healthy. Suicide is forever and getting healthy can be a few months to years. Life is long and can be happy. Focus on living solutions.

Some people need to be angry in order to separate issues in their mind. It's sort of a forced "splitting" of good and bad. They have to view you to be "bad" to justify the split. Their anger makes them feel justified in that. A weak analog is a boss at work who has to be "mad" in order to fire someone rather than being logical and calm.

You don't have to remove them, you merely have to make their brand of life no longer respected or desired. It's the incidental interactions that make people fly off the handle because real men are now "so different".

God I want to disagree... but he’s right
/r/MGTOW25/03/19 12:13 PM
11

yeah, that will go nowhere... diamonds are trophies given by cucks to women. women don't buy that crap for themselves because a) they don't have the money to, and b) it isn't a trophy when you don't influence someone else to buy it for you

We just don’t like bitches

/r/MGTOW04/03/19 12:15 PM

I think you mean “more devious”. Women are incapable of lasting relationships. They cannot love anything more than themselves. Even their love for their children is selfishly lived out and - when they have a strong child and it cannot be selfish - then they disown them emotionally.

0 to age 18 24 hours a day is less than 160,000 hours. While this may or may not be a minority of his remaining time with his child, it's bad math.

A face pic like that should be used as personal motivation to make the rest of you look as good as your face. Now, that face has been troweled with fakeup but she could be pretty... if she dropped four and a half stone.

Young men should know that they will be chosen by their utility to another person. This is true in work, in relationships, all of it. Endeavor to make yourself useful or become someone who measures and selects utility in others. Relationships won't work if you - as the male - view them to be about love and relationship and the female views them to be about utility (which she will). Women, children, and puppies are loved unconditionally. Men are loved for what they can provide.

whether or not she has a boyfriend isn't relevant to you... and it isn't to her either. there is no "stealing" a girl because a girl is never yours (and was never 'theirs'). she isn't "yours"... it's just your turn
/r/askTRP04/02/19 04:17 AM

Why do people believe that there is no sunshine when she’s gone? Does everyone believe that a romantic love relationship is required for a complete life? That’s false!

So... The Red Pill really is just beta (pussy is everything) but the way you go about getting it is "more alpha"? Fascinating. Comes right back to the belief that access to a vagina is the true meaning of life.

worse yet. the 100k was largely a bonus and stock sale and I had to give her 100k and pay 39.6% tax on that 100k the next year. So, I now have a tax lien against me and I'm paying the federal government back taxes over six years.

Worse than doing nothing, Trump allowed a law to pass that is active today! It states that for divorces finalized after yesterday that the alimony payment is taxable to the payor and nontaxable to the payee.
/r/MGTOW01/01/19 07:49 PM
3

Just $228,000 total. Got out cheap.
/r/MGTOW01/01/19 07:42 PM
2

When I got this alimony judgment (thank god the kids were already almost out of the house so no child support) I took home around $7,500 a month. I gave her around 60k in “things” more than I kept, gave her an Audi, gave around 100k in cash, and split retirement accounts. Several other more minor things... but it will be well over half a mil when it’s all said and done.
/r/MGTOW01/01/19 07:01 PM

I am blessed with a good income, but 3,500 hurts, no question. Since she left I’ve gotten significant increases as well, and that helps.

3,500

It feels good. I imagine there's a bottle of Scotch for me at the end.
/r/MGTOW01/01/19 02:15 PM

Just 4.5 years. I got out on the lucky side. The amount is high but the time is fairly short. The total is what it is. After 21 years you have to expect something much worse.
/r/MGTOW01/01/19 02:14 PM

Been there. Five more months of alimony and I'm done.
/r/MGTOW01/01/19 01:47 PM

That's because the AI uses only data to make decisions. It isn't influenced by political correctness or other emotional reactions, it merely picks people based on their likelihood to succeed and drive revenue.
/r/MGTOW31/12/18 06:15 PM

You could spend a huge amount of time trying to understand/interpret her frame (get on the hamster wheel yourself). Perhaps she meant that your statements don't add additional value beyond the data. Perhaps she meant that, psychologically, your statements don't make her feel any better. Perhaps she meant that your statements don't add to a body of existential / philosophical knowledge that promotes/develops critical discourse. Or you could stay in your frame and do your thing.

I am young and don't have enough life experience, but I wonder how did men manage to live with this angry creature for 200000 years? Because this is the creature that possesses the pussy
/r/MGTOW21/12/18 06:30 PM

This is true of almost every man who dates any woman. Why do we hear about it with Ms. Grande? Because she's a talkative ho with an audience.

Death, taxes, and The Wall

Pissing and shitting are "normal bodily functions" as well, but if you indulge in them near (or on) me, I'll take you out. These are the types who don't shave their pits or legs and then can't understand why men don't want them.
/r/MGTOW16/11/18 09:46 PM

Joining the Army will give you structure and the ability to put up with a lot of shit It will not put you in contact with the best of the best until you're years in, unless you're a specimen already. If you are mentally solid, physically perfect, and emotionally level you could get into the Rangers early and get exposed to some top-shelf talent quickly... but this isn't a normative path for most.

25

It’s their battle cry, but it isn’t what they want
/r/MGTOW21/10/18 06:28 PM
2

The base issue is that we have been lied to for years about who can truly love. We are told that love is a feminine quality, and nothing could be further from the truth. Many men have the capacity to love a woman almost unconditionally, and women are only able to love a man for what he provides to her.
/r/MGTOW21/10/18 04:53 PM
2

No, wait. I have no issue whatsoever being characterized as someone who generally "has a problem with women". Women hate each other (and themselves). The only reason men act like they like them is because they want to fuck them. There's really nothing at all to like.
/r/MGTOW21/10/18 01:47 AM
26

When women leave it is almost certain that they are already cheating, or they wouldn't be leaving. Women don't leave to "nowhere".
/r/MGTOW20/10/18 11:40 PM

no difference really
/r/MGTOW16/10/18 01:57 AM

/r/MGTOW08/10/18 06:22 PM
10

We will unjustifiably accuse you of a pile of horrific shit
/r/MGTOW08/10/18 04:37 PM

That is great. Now... what is the path to "as much quality sex as I want"? I still have a wife whois overcome with her own self-focus, an inability to see that there are other people in the world, and who puts herself and her kids before me in literally every situation. I haven't the time or energy to try to "train" her.

They aren't thinking about the end game. Remember, women - when they experience an emotion - that's all they are experiencing. Everything that sounds like conversation, thought, or anything else is really the emotion expressing itself. If you don't understand this, you cannot interact with women (which is also a good approach).
/r/MGTOW07/10/18 12:46 AM
1

That's true, I do use you for sex... and you get sex out of it too, good sex. Let me know if that's not something you want anymore.

Why are you scared? You could lose your marriage... is that it? You have a good job, income, etc. So, worst case is alimony, child support, visitation. Now, work from there. Many of us dealt with (deal with) that and still hold our heads high.

In many countries people have been told that college (university) is the only true path to success. This is patently absurd (it's bullshit). In the USA there are several paths to success and university is a path for some.

The difficulty is that they will get divorce-raped, regardless the actual blame being on the woman. So, while the man escapes the harpy that saddled him with the child, he will still pay her alimony and child support for said child. It isn't as though he can recoup losses for raising them, being lied to, etc.

Your "why" is to look better, think better, feel better, to **be** better. Stopping the consumption of junk food is merely a step in attaining your "why". The consumption of processed sugar merely demands more and more from the consumer. Sugar begets a desire for sugar. Diet drinks then increase your appetite on top of the desire for sugar and the spiral continues. You will need to go cold turkey on processed sugar (supplement with fresh fruit instead). Stop the processed food, sugar, dyes, and …

I have heard this story as well In fact, a close friend of mine's wife paid his debt as well. It just happens not to be normative. As women continue to close pay gaps where they exist, continue to graduate with advanced degrees, and occupy higher executive positions it may become as normal for them to pay alimony as for men to do so. Of course, this is also the time that laws around alimony will change.

Son, you're plenty bright at age 14. One of the darker quotes is "Memento Mori". This simply means, "Remember that you will die". It is an exhortation to live well and to pack what you can into each day. Get done the things that can be done, don't leave things for tomorrow. Don't fear death, but use your natural end as motivation to live well. Marcus Aurelius also said, "Spend no more time discussing what a good man should be. Be one".

She has written this as a woman (which means), from a solipsistic viewpoint that has her and her feelings and desires at the center without regard for who she hurt or the fact that the objects of her pursuit might be misguided.

Daddy must be the bad person mommy says he is This one hits home. For 21 years I told my kids that their mom was a queen in her home, to be respected and listened to. That entire time - unknown to me - she was telling them that I was a controlling, narcissistic, abuser that they should be afraid of. When she cheated and left, of course they believed her! I told them to listen to her! They did! The kids have largely sorted it out now, but don't make the beta mistakes I did.

Shit, I told my wife about Dread. Told her I didn't think it was directly helpful in a marriage where two people were trying, but it might be very useful in a marriage where a wife has forgotten she needs to be available. Then we watched the Patrice O'Neal standup where he talks about sport fishing (catching women). Did she hamster on thinking all that through? I DON'T KNOW... and I don't care.

Well, you've reacted to her words, and that's a no-no. You felt busted, but what did you do? You respond to her actions. She had sex with you. Don't try to figure out "what kind of ex" it was. Do what you are going to do, react only to what she does, and keep on keeping on.
/r/askMRP10/05/18 11:26 AM

The first thing you have to do is ignore the comments and remain silent. Once you have that down you can decide if a response is warranted. If you decide to respond, for God's sake, say something that brings her into your frame. Amplify is one way to do this (the sammich example) but direct speech / communication is fine too. The "ignore" piece strongly reinforces the idea that you won't listen to or act on her words alone (because doing so is a losing and miserable proposition). If she acts, th…

First of all, there's really no point in asking that question because the premise is incredibly unlikely. She may be very feminine and prior to marriage she might be very sexual... but you truly have no idea if she would cheat. She may not even know yet. Now, what does "worth it" mean? What will she provide you that you cannot get or do not have? That is, what value will she bring you and in exchange for what? Your sexual freedom will now be limited, your choice of time spent with others will be…
