I'm so sorry you're experiencing this. Your words are heartbreaking to read. I really hope that you can graduate and become financially independent soon, so that you can live on your own and be away from your dad. Your dad reminds me of mine. Life gets so incredibly immensely better once you move out, finish school, get a good job, live on your own etc. I promise ❤

Good for you ❤. Men who use women for money are so cringe and sad that it's almost funny. You have all of the privileges of being a man in a misogynistic society, and yet you can't even financially support yourself; and need a women, who've only relatively recently been legally able to open a bank account in her own name here in the US, to do so? Really unmanly and big turn-off.

Your reaction is perfectly valid. He definitely overstepped the boundaries of medical professionalism. You were in a vulnerable position, and his medical training and common sense should have made it obvious to him what is and is not ok to say. I would file a complaint about him to his supervisor and stick to female doctors for sensitive procedures like mammograms. If I were in your position, I would be so furious about his creepy disrespectful behavior that I would write a Google maps review pu…

Wow, this is stunning! I love it so much! I love the variety of professions depicted here-- writer, doctor, scientist, lawyer artist. I completely agree with the message. I've focused on my education, family, and friends all my life. I've never prioritized boys because I've always gotten a lot more satisfaction from the former compared to the latter. You don't owe him anything beyond basic human respect and politeness. You don't owe him emotional labor. You don't owe him the benefit of the doubt. You don't owe him your trust. You don't owe him exclusivity unless that's been discussed. You certainly don't owe him a hug, a kiss, any physical touching. And you most definitely don't owe him sex! On a date, you're already giving him your time and attention, and that's probably the most he deserves anyways.

Low effort guys who are afraid of commitment and emotional intimacy who want all the benefits of having a women with none of the responsibilities Mediocre guys with unimpressive educations and average jobs, "meh" looks, "meh" personalities, low-effort profiles, just boring, nothing stands out to you; you swipe "no" because nothing about them gives you reason to swipe "yes" (by far the largest category of online dating men in my experience)

Hey, I'm so sorry that happened to you. I would have been freaked out by the whole situation too. I feel really annoyed that he had to make one of your favorite places feel unsafe. I'm not sure how relevant this suggestion would be to you, but for me, getting a big, protective, leash-reactive dog has given me a lot of peace of mind with respect to my safety. Yes, I read about her in the news today. Here's an NBC article. It's so sad. She's a college student, young, gorgeous, with her whole life ahead of her. Sorry you had to experience these uncomfortable situations. Just reading about the first man made me feel gross and icky. Good for you for standing your ground on how Chipotle is too casual for a proper date. Asking a woman what she wears to bed is so inappropriate and disrespectful. Glad the trash took itself out. I personally don't date anyone who makes significantly less than I do. I don't see the point in doing so, and I find that guys get weird inferiority complexes when that happens. We ar…

Wonderful post. I completely agree with all of your points. Almost all of the men in my family, and many of the meaningful men in my life, have PhDs or JDs. Their wives all have graduate degrees, MSs, PhDs, JDs etc. As a woman, your educational background and job status absolutely matters.

That is sexual harassment. They were pressuring you to sleep with them, despite you saying no. They even went as far as to follow you and touch your thigh?? What a loser he is. If this happened in the workplace, it would definitely without a doubt be sexual harassment. Therefore, it is sexual harassment regardless of where it happened. I'm so sorry this happened to you. Your feelings are very valid.

Yes! That's what my sister said! She said the fact that it was the mom's 5th c-section was the reason why she was delivered by the very specialized top-of-their-field ob-gyns at that top medical school hospital, rather than at her local hospital. There were "innumerable risks to her health from that pregnancy," and my sister was relieved that the mom got an IUD afterwards.

I'm automatically nice to women, children, animals, very old people etc. because I identify with other women and their struggles, children and animals are so little and cute and precious, and very old people are just more frail and vulnerable. However, remember that you as a woman don't owe stranger men anything. I act cold, aloof, distant, unimpressed towards stranger men. I do not give them the benefit of the doubt. Afterward he insisted we go to a park (at 10pm in the dead of winter). We get to the park and its gross, my boots are getting messed up in the wet grass. He lays a blanket and we lay there in the cold dark, he used his shoe as a pillow. Sure the views there are nice but it was all so stupid to be there in the dark cold. Oh my goodness, I'm so sorry. Of course, just because his education, career, and earnings is impressive to you doesn't automatically make him high-value. You also need to look at his empathy and thoughtfulness, grit and mental strength, character traits etc. Oh and don't forget that you actually have to find him attractive. Hypergamy is the cultural norm and expectation in Chinese culture. Women marry up or equal, never down. Women lose too much when they marry down in Chinese culture, because there, you're not just marrying the man; you're marrying into the family. So you're expected to do wifey/womanly duties for not only the man and future kids, but for the family as a whole. Why would you, as a women, agree to this if your man is a loser who can't offer you financial security, good looks, good genes for your ki…

Ughhh expecting women to go 50/50 on the cost of an expense when there is a large income gap is infuriating! Never do this! Given that a large income gap exists, don't go 50/50 on the cost of the expense. Instead, it makes so much more sense to go 50/50 as a percentage of income: Let x be a percentage, expressed as a decimal x * (income 1) + x * (income 2) = cost of expense Literally solve for x. This is the percentage of income each person should pay. Person 1 who makes income 1 pays (x * incom…

Sweetheart, there are definitely kind, empathetic, loyal, and sweet men out there. There are men who treat women with respect, and know right from wrong. They understand that women are more vulnerable and face more threats, and so they are protective over the women's safety. I've had guys walk me to my dorm at night, to make sure that I got home safely. I've had a guy tell me to "be careful" in a caring way when I walked to the library at night. Yes, focus on yourself: your self-care, your education, your career, your finances, your passions and hobbies. Focus on cultivating strong relationships with the women in your life. Focus on helping out those more vulnerable than you (children, the elderly, animals etc). That's how I'm living my life now :) I'm 26; I started dating at 24, stopped dating at 25 (mainly due to the pandemic, but I'm thankful that the pandemic made me pause and reassess the role of men in my life); and now I'm in abs…

Yes!!! I completely agree with your point of view! I also cannot believe I used to agree to dates with guys who couldn't even plan one properly and "let me choose." No, be a man. Plan a proper date and show me a good time. Show that you care about me through your time and efforts. Otherwise I have hundreds of other things I'd rather be doing than risking my safety by socializing with a stranger man.

Any 30-34 year old woman would be able to realize that a 13-17 year old boy is a child whose brain is still developing and who does not have a meaningful understanding of the world because they are so young and lack life experiences. Any woman would understand that any "relationship" with the boy would have horribly unbalanced power dynamics in her favor, taking advantage of his naivete. I'm in my 20s, and most men in their 40s and 50s are absolutely geriatric to me. So many men in that age group are balding, graying, overweight, diseased-looking in general; and if they still look decent, I can't help but think that they more likely than not have sexually harassed or sexually assaulted women in their past, and that just absolutely kills any attraction on my part. On the other hand, I see women in their 40s in 50s and many look like healthy, happy, confident, thriving women.

If Roe v Wade gets overturned here in the US I’m going on an official sex strike. Exactly! Anytime a man accuses you of being a gold digger, it really means that he knows he can't afford you. You are too expensive for him. You are too good for him. And he resents you for that. You can just think of the term "gold digger" as another neg. "Ugh gold-digger." "Wow good for you for realizing that I'm expensive and you can't afford me. Yes I definitely agree that vetting for if the man will be a good husband and dad is super important! Hmm about the late-20s thing. I think it's mainly because my desire for kids is so much stronger than my desire for a man, so if I don't find a good man by my late 20s (I'm currently in my mid-20s), then it's time to move on to what I really want-- to be a mom :). I'm not going to let the prospect of finding a good man delay one of my main goals in life (exceedingly few men are worth that sacrif…

I was hoping that I would be provided information about their hobbies and activities. I'm attracted to men who devote their time to more vulnerable populations-- for example, volunteering at the animal shelter, volunteering at the soup kitchen or food pantry etc. I think that this shows empathy and caring for others. However, I don't really know anything about what information you're provided about the donor because I haven't started this process.

If these men can't attract a women while in the physical prime of their 20s, and have to rely on the massive power imbalances of a large age-gap relationship just to potentially attract a woman (this is pathetic), can you imagine how much hatred and resentment they must have towards women, built up over the decades? They must be absolutely seething inside. No healthy relationship will come out of this. Hopefully any young woman being "courted" by an ancient grandpa will listen to the wisdom of t…

Yes, it's so important to decouple your desire for children from your desire to find a man who deserves you! You absolutely do not need to have a man in your life in order to have children. Protect your womb from low-value men because pregnancy and childbirth and post-childbirth pose significant risks to you and your body. If you're going to go through so much risk to have a child, you might as well make sure that you are giving your child strong desirable genes by using a sperm donor or finding…

Yes queen go get that PhD! And don't you ever let a man neg you over your decision to get one. He did that because he was feeling hella insecure and knew he isn't worth even a tiny fraction of that doctorate. Haha who gets a PhD to be "greedy"? As if living on a humble living stipend will make you rich?? I'm making almost 1/5 the amount as a PhD student compared to my new PhD-level real job that I'm starting in August. He's a loser. Very intriguing ideas, thanks! I've never heard or read about the concept of "uterine mortality" before. I completely agree with it. Yes our wombs are completely our private properties, though too often men tend to think that it's their property 😡😡😡. I think there is definitely a fine line between what is and isn't eugenics; but under the view that women bear the responsibility of deciding which genes get passed on to the next generation, simply because so much risk comes from pregnancy and chil…

Very valuable advice, thanks for posting! I completely agree with running at the first signs of a guy having no money or still living with his parents post-college. Yes there are probably some very rare exceptions, but in general nothing good will come out of getting involved with a man like that. The truth is: Asian-American feel inferior to white men while simultaneously feeling ownership of Asian-American women. On top of this, they too desire proximity to whiteness and view white women as a "prize". Not because they actually value white women, but because they desire ownership of what the white male has in an attempt to become equals with the white male class. That event and the men's complicity is outrageous and I feel your anger. The media's initial backlash of the men "for leaving the women alone in the classroom, and standing by in the hall as they were shot" was completely justified and that should continue to be the narrative today. These Queen Bees are the original Queens. I love their no-nonsense attitude. It makes complete sense that the scarce food resources during the winter should go to the female worker bees who do all the work for the family-- collecting food, taking care of the baby bees, building and protecting the hive. If the male drone bees don't have anything more to contribute to the bee family, then... bye.

Extremely good advice. I agree 100%. Thanks for sharing with us the wisdom that you gained from your personal experiences. I'm sorry that you had to go through all that. Yes, never feel bad for turning down a guy for whatever reason. My reasoning behind this is that in a relationship and in marriage, the woman generally has the most to lose and the man has the most to gain. There are countless examples of this. For instance, the study that concluded that married women live shorter lives than their unmarried counterparts, while married men live longer than their unmarried counterparts. Women risk being raped/murdered when going on dates, while men don't have to w…

Hey idiosyncraticg1, I support you ❤. You got your job and financial independence from your education and degree. That's how economic mobility works (at least where I am in the US). That's the classic modern-day American dream. I think some people feel jealous of your situation, which makes sense because poverty and financial instability is incredibly stressful. I'm proud of you and your achievements.

I currently live in a more rural part of the US. I'm here because of graduate school. The guys in this area generally are not well educated, have mediocre (at best) jobs, and I just don't want their genes for my future kids. Ugh I feel so bad for the little girl. The dad is the adult here. He should have taken on the role of both parents, and tried to give the little girl as good of a childhood as possible after such a tragic event. Any surviving mother or HVM would have tried to do that. It's heartbreaking that the dad made the little girl take on the "mom" role at such a young age. I've always thought that women are internally stronger and have more resilience than men.

I would recommend getting a dog. My 60lbs rescue pitbull mix is very protective of her people and home. She barks and growls at anyone who comes too close to the apartment. Yes, I definitely agree that that 50% split on rent and other shared living expenses is very unfair in the case where there is a significant difference in income level. In this case, instead of basing the percentage on the cost of rent/expenses, it makes a whole lot more sense to base the percentages on individual income. For example, suppose shared monthly expenses are $4,000. And suppose person A makes $50,000 and person B makes double that amount at $100,000. If we were to base the % on expen…

Yes, he does seem like a good decent guy overall, but needs to be more empathetic towards women's perspectives. But then again, just like how in the US, a part of white privilage is not having to think much about race because your race is the "default" race; I think a part of male privilage is not having to think much about gender because your gender is the "default" gender.

I completely agree with your thoughts. Thank you! I agree 100000% that "financial security is critical for women because it allows us safety." I can't fall back on my parents for money, and relying on a man for financial security sets up a power-imbalance that could too easily get abusive. Relying on myself is my best bet. And self-reliance is empowering in and of itself.

My message is to encouage women to pursue graduate degrees because I've found it to be very empowering. I am speaking from a math/stats perspective because that's my experience and that's what I know and can comment on. I never claimed that pursuing STEM is "the right choice," just that it's the right choice for me. This post is written with observational intentions rather than prescriptive intentions. Yes, I love the humanities too. I love Virginia Woolf, Flaubert, Faulkner, Russian history, th…

Thanks! Yeah I wish there were more truely empowering posts on here. Congrats on furthering your education in a technical field! Yes, I wish someone had encouraged you in math when you were young :( In my experience, doing a math undergrad is as much about grit and discipline as it is about math ability.

Ohhhh good luck on your PhD program application! Crossing my fingers for you! Yeah, I've definitely also used the term "graduate student" rather than "PhD student/PhD candidate" to seem more modest about things. But then again, I didn't spend 5 years of my life on this degree, nor did I take an 8 hour math/stats exam twice (qualifying exam) just to downplay my degree :)

Wow congrats on all your degrees! I think it's great that you're continuing to improve your skills by doing certifications. Yeah, strategic education is really the best way for economic mobility. Haha if guys are intimidated by our education, then that is 100% their problem, not ours!

Thanks 😊. Hmm have you considered applying to PhD programs in the US, and then getting a PhD-level job in the US? That's how my parents immigrated here

Best of luck on your grad school applications! Yeah, doing a math undergrad was really hard and demanding, but I find that people really respect you for it since you have knowledge that they wish they had.

Wow, that all sounds super exciting! Congrats on your MS and your rotations-- sounds like a really good experience/resume builder! Some of my students also want to apply to PA school, and I've heard it's a great job 😊

Yay, I'm so glad this resonates with you! I love meeting other STEM PhD women! Yes, I totally agree-- in my dating experience, the LVMs who are either intimidated by your degree, or see it as a strength that makes you harder to manipulate/play practically filter themselves out 😂

Congratulations on your Computer Science Masters!!! I did a scientific computing minor in undergrad (Python, Java, C), and my current research is in R and Python. Programming is such an intensely useful skill.

Yeah, this is "public branding" is definitely pretty cringe. If she feels the need to buy this for him, then she probably feels quite insecure in the relationship. You shouldn't feel insecure in a healthy relationship where both people put in equal effort. If you really feel that way about each other (i.e. "I'm her king and she's my life"), why do you need to casually announce it to strangers on the street? Weird vibes.

Hmm yeah, if he does have a racist past, then that would negate the HV status. I wasn't fully aware of his racist past.

Not to be too political, but Joe Biden seems like a HVM as well. You can tell that he treats his wife well, values her, and isn't intimidated by her PhD. His family in general also seems to regard him highly. That empathy and sympathizing with others' hardship comes so easily and naturally to him is very high-value. And the fact that he comforted the boy who struggles with stuttering and gave him advice on how to overcome it is so kind and heartwarming.

Ahhh it's such a shame when male family members or relatives who you've loved as babies and kids grow up to be misogynistic and disrespectful of women, or even abusive and violent; and so you need to distance yourself from them to protect yourself. I know that if I end up having a son, I will emphasize and encourage his sense of empathy and kindness (especially towards those more vulnerable), and I will makes sure he understands the importance of respecting women. But I worry: what if he stills …

I'm sorry that you had to endure all of that abuse and gaslighting from your ex and from the redditors. That sounds terrible and traumatizing. I'm so glad that you're out of that situation now. It sounds like you've been able to heal to the extent that you're able to critique your mindset/headspace back then, and give advice to other women who may be in a similar situation. Keep on leveling up Queen!

I don't understand what he means by "to take back what us men deserve." At least in US history and present day, white men (most of the rioters were white) have been the most privileged and are still the most privileged. If they are not able to achieve success even with that top-level privilege, when white women/women of color/men of color are able to achieve success with much less privilege, then the fault lies with them and they need to improve themselves (education/personal development/therapy…

Thank you for sharing your insight on this. I really appreciate it. I agree that "You need to decouple your desire to have children from the need to accept any man that can provide that" is epiphany-level advice! I'm in my mid-late 20s, finishing a PhD program. I know that I want kids (I was lucky to grow up with younger siblings who were born when I was old enough to help take care of them, and I've loved babies ever since); but finding a good man is hard enough, and even harder in the relative…
