When I was around 25 and been single for a couple of years, most people (including my own mother) told me I should lower my standards and gIvE a NiCe GuY™ a ChAnCe. Apparently I was asking too much when I wanted a man to be on the same level as me on things such as income, life goals, education, etc. "So what if they're not educated, they can still be wonderful husbands and parents! Maybe they appreciate marriage more than most modern men these days! And you should give a man with a child a chance, sometimes these things happen in life! You shouldn't concentrate so much on looks, you'll grow fond of him once you get to know him!"
So I gave a nice guy a chance. He had a child, wasn't on the best terms with the baby mama but he claimed she was crazy and cheated on poor woe him. He had only started to study. He had very low income. He was seemingly obsessed with me. He didn't work out at all, but bragged about being a competition-level swimmer a few years back. He was introverted and shy. And this is what happened when I compromised my life because some scrote "deserved a chance."
He cheated on me with the baby mama. She never cheated on him. He had cheated on her constantly as well. He constantly cheated on me with other women too.
He studied a fancy profession to get admiration from women, and has ended up with a ton of student debt and out of job due to the pandemic. I found out he had taken endless quickie loans and credit card debt which he wasn't able to pay off. He borrowed thousands from me, and still owes me money.
He was love bombing me from the start, and after a few months he showed his true manipulative, abusive psychopath colors. He called me with slurs all the time and blamed me for cheating, which I never did. He beat me often and blamed me for that. He broke my finger. He ripped out my hair. He threw me against our living room window and it broke. He broke my furniture, doors and door handles in my home, when I tried to escape by locking myself into another room. And of course, it was my fault anyway.
His definition of quality time was to play WoW 18 hours straight.
He jerked off to internet girls while I was gone and had an ED by the age of 24.
He was introverted and shy because he had zero self esteem and he felt so below me he had to drag me down in order to feel better about himself. He blamed me for his terrible self esteem, but the truth is, a nice guy himself is like a bottomless well. You can pour all your love, caring and praise into it but it will never fill. They are like an empty vessel. All they have is hatred.
Lowering your standards, giving up your boundaries and giving someone "a chance" will compromise your mental and physical health and even your life. There is always a reason behind the nice guy's shortcomings. There is a reason why they can't eg. finish a school, land a normal job or why they have children that they can't take care of. There is a reason behind the shyness, in reality it's just the poor self esteem. They hate you for being better than them, the misogyny is unbelievable. I could have died in the hands of this "nice guy", and even then the tables would have turned and I would have been blamed for it in our society. "Why didn't she leave earlier, she should have known better, women always go for the chads that just beat them up!"
So never, NEVER give up even one standard. Never stretch even one boundary. It will only lead you to worse life. When you show them you can give them the benefit of the doubt, they will use it. Next time he will push you slightly too hard, and you might hit your head in the wrong angle on the floor and die.
