Ha the f#%king mother!!! If that gutter rat is divorced, I guess we should have seen it coming! But seriously, when the time comes that you have forgotten how long it’s been since you divorced, you’ve won the battle.

I think those who truly understood my circumstances are still with me, be that guy/girl, and those people should be cherished. I to have risen from the ashes and my life now is 100% better than ever. I feel like I wasted 20+ years in misery.

I wonder if it’s because they know exactly how single and freshly divorced women corrupt the married ones? I think many on here would have been victim to the newly divorced friend explaining how good life is now!

Drinking seemed like the answer, it wasn’t! Drank way too much, just to feel numb, while not getting any better. 401 days without a drink right now, life is so much better.

Isn’t this just so true! Wife’s would make excellent historians, they can remember your faults and f#%kups right down to the day/date/time. I also should have been more assertive about her treatment of others, our kids, and family members. Rude and obnoxious are not traits most of us enjoy dealing with. What makes me semi happy, is even now 4 years after divorce, she hasn’t changed one little bit, and as my kids have grown into adults they see her for what she is, and they reflect on what was ac…

No you’re not in the wrong. Your GF is obviously part of you and your kids life now, and, in my case my kids see me happy and healthy instead of sad and miserable, it’s extremely good for them.

My ex would have sat still on everything forever if I didn’t push it to lawyers. It’s scary, expensive, but sometimes the only way forward. In my case once she started getting a few bills from her lawyer she soon changed path and settled.
/r/Divorce_Men22/08/25 06:17 AM
2

Stick with that attitude! Life is good now, things are better. When I do get angry or down, I think back to bad times and be super grateful for the why I have recovered and moved forward. Watching my kids recover from the narcissistic behaviour their mother played out on them is also a huge win. Why didn’t we make the break sooner? When my oldest was around 10 I wrote a note, it said that the way his mother treats him he will be a prime candidate for suicide! Sure enough 7 years after that, he a…

It’s weird isn’t it, I’m angry also, and even more weird some day I actually miss her! My life now is 100% better than it ever was, my kids (adult) are starting to come clear of the issues created by their mums behaviours, in general life is so much better. Why is it we can’t break free from our trauma bonds? George Bruno notes is the “hardware” you miss, the “software” was corrupt, you were attached to the “hardware” I’d like to believe that’s the case.

Here’s the thing, and it took me some time to figure this out….every time I found out something, checked where she was, found stuff I shouldn’t etc, the only person suffering was me. If I’d left it alone, yes, I’d be thinking, but I certainly wouldn’t have been hurting so bad. Like some have mentioned, I would go out of my way to see where she was or who she was with, wondering why her car was parked outside her office at 10.30pm etc etc etc. Even now I sometime think about a drive by to see who…

Serious dating is a bloody minefield! The only saving grace is you will probably be more attuned to what the red flags are than previously. Dating is most likely going to find you women who have done to someone else, what has just been done to you. I don’t know if this makes sense, but when serious dating, try and find the woman who has been cheated on, or husband left first. People who have gone through the emotional turmoil of uninitiated divorce/separation are surely more understanding and so…

I think we have all had those kickings, and the early ones leave a few scars. So many of the stories on here are virtually the same, and while it won’t fix the problems it helps to understand it just seems to be a female thing, and almost out of our control.

Two months is early days, things might get better soon, but it’s a process. I’m 4 years out and I still have those thoughts, but they don’t drag me down into the depths of despair. I tried therapy, but it felt like they were just preaching common sense at me. Deep down you know what you want, but I’ll tell you this, it’s not what you need. We all look for the reasons, hope for the explanation, but when you think back hard, they did so many things without both reason or explanation, so we won’t b…

All of the above, the key word is “peace”, once I recovered emotionally and mentally, the peace I found was astounding. So much so I have had zero to do with ex since. We have kids, and even the peace found by my older boy who lives with me is amazing. From drugs and alcohol to get by into a much healthier and fitter human. My other boy who did still live with his mother, until she kicked him out also, still lives with conflict and chaos daily. It’s a by product of living with a person who nothi…

4 years free…and yes, the first two were misery, I fought against it, I begged, I simped, I hurt a lot. WHY? The peace I have found outside those 25 years of hell is unbelievable! I still hear bits and pieces from my adult kids about their mother, she’s still crazy, still can’t control her emotions….these were the things I was trying to hold onto?? I got a lawyer, which in turn forced ex to get a lawyer. It’s amazing how lawyers seem to be more interested in continuing the fight? Anyway, ex lawyer would send crazy letters around all sorts of nonsense, which basically I ignored, so while her lawyer bills mounted I used mine for the bare minimum. At some point, even the crazy irrational ones will get lawyer bill shock and realise they are burning money, because let’s face it, deep down it’s all about the money. The only danger is they get a …

Spot on! Take action to save yourself! And this one hits, if you need to leave the boys with her, do it. I did with one of my boys, but the time does come, as they get older where they see the truth in the situation. It’s been 4 years for me, but he’s finally understanding what I had to go through in that house. People don’t change and the ex is on him now like she used to ride me!

Mate, it’s called simping , and don’t worry we all went through it. She’s has made the choices, choices which right now seem fantastic while you’re supporting her. Reads like the script of most of us on here! The thing I learnt from divorce is complete emotional detachment from things that are not doing me any good. I have zero contact with Ex, nothing, I don’t even go anywhere where there would be a possibility of running in to her. I loved our dog, but not any more, haven’t seen it for a few years, I’ve just detached my emotions towards it. These crazy ex’s use emotion as a weapon against you, and it took me a good few years to realise that!

You have to remember if they are back on the market, more than likely they have just put someone else through the same wringer we have been through. I got out and dated, but in the end I found it was not me who was desperate and dating, but all these “somebody else” ex wives, desperate to latch onto a future, but only interested in the pre prepared future. Always looking to start at the top. All of them came with their own ingrained set of issues, and until I realised that ultimately their rejec…

I think that’s why people come here. Before here I sat back and hoped for the best (simp) let life go on around me thinking things would get better. Reading advice on here just made me think about my actions and look after myself. I think everyone who goes through a divorce initiated by their other half goes through the same sets of emotions and issues, it’s just a time thing around how long it takes for the issues to move to the background in your life. I think many of us go through the drinking, the silly dates, the late nights, all as tools to try and recover from probably the biggest kick in the guts you will ever get. I’m roughly around 4 years clear, and yes, I still get down, I still think about her now and again, …

What it did for me was create a whole new mentality with relationships moving forward. It didn’t at the start, I tried to understand, to recover it, but she was gone, as soon as they taste that new “D” you’ve lost them…and really looking back, good riddance. It hurt till my mind frame switched to cutting off anyone, especially her first who didn’t serve the best version of me. That meant cold hard cutting her, no contact ever again, and one of my kids who decided she was right, well he’s cut als…

Wether you like it or not, the best thing you can ever do for your kids is extricate yourself from a one way miserable relationship. When your kids see you happy, being treated as an equal and enjoying life, it will be a far better lesson than watching you spend years walking on egg shells.

Advice from “friends” especially those who have gone through a divorce is deadly for your marriage! They paint the “freedom” picture and leave out the trail of emotional destruction it leaves behind.

Let me tell you this, after going through divorce and the crap leading up to it, it dulls your emotional attachment. I could easily end a relationship now without a care. I know what the end game is, so I have no issue putting a stop to it. The only downside i feel is that blunting of emotional attachment has carried over to all my relationships, I just have no care if the go bad, i just cut them loose.

I lived that for almost two years, and all it did was compound the pain and hurt…she moved on, while I sat back and watched my life disappear. She used to get things done while I was in the mood of giving anything to get her back, while she planed weekends away with boyfriends. No going back brother, move on & up!

Just a question, and being from Australia it may be different, but if custody is 50/50 why do you need to pay her?

All the counselling is soon wiped out by time alone with your ex. Even though my kids are older, it was easier to let the one that lives with ex go.

Here I thought the idea of divorce was never to see or hear from them again…that part of the narrative is controlled by you my friend, kids or not. Arrangements can always be made to exchange kids without contact. I personally could not care less if my ex was falling on her face, her issue to sort out.

Once their interest is taken by another, you soon become surplus to needs. I went through exactly the same, couldn’t do anything right, always in the way, it could start an argument about how I cooked a meal….it was painful to be part of, but so so obvious what was going on.

We are not the broken ones! Broken is the ability to premeditate the destruction of others lives and families because in the “new age” she deserves to be happy no mater what the cost to others. I wonder if they understand that if personal happiness was the key, we the men would have been out long ago! And don’t stress, it won’t happen immediately, but bit by bit you will find more happiness in your life than during your marriage.

No doubt in my mind that hanging around with divorced women, noticing the lifestyle change certainly has a pronounced effect on women in two minds before divorce.

A little joy is just having 100% of your income hit your account, and not being guilted because you needed 10% of it to run your own life. Spending 25 years being told you are terrible with money, but once you are free of the controller you have savings, investments and your own place! The joys of Australia and 50/50 no fault divorce.

I think after a long marriage, where possibly we put up with more than we should have, we are very aware of things being “off” and are not willing to put up with it again. I think emotionally we will never attach the same way again, and find it so much easier to end things not travelling in the right direction without the overbearing heartache.

Divorce stories from the USA have such unhappy endings :( here in Aus when mine was over, we split the house, gave each other nothing and have never spoken since! I have hung the final papers in a frame, like a certificate in the longest course of misery you can do. It reminds me each day of how much happier I am now.

4 years, it just doesn’t happen. All I do is make sure there are zero reminders around the house, zero things to run across on my phone, blocked on all social media platforms, and I don’t go out in my town ever, solely on the chance of seeing her out. (Small town, fair chance)

Treatment resistant? I’m depressed, but what depresses me are real life issues, things I deal with daily, I’m yet to understand how medication to mask an actual depressive issue is a fix. Maybe just maybe, your stbxw is the cause and with time, divorce may be the cure?

All of the above, but, the shitiest thing you want to hear right now is “it gets better”, don’t get me wrong, it does get better, but sadly there is no fixed timeline to that outcome. I’m almost 4 years out after 25 in, and it’s so much better. The most important thing is zero contact, no peeping at social media or random phone calls etc, cut the them off cold, it’s tough but best in the long run for you!

Is there a book they get all this from? Mine hadn’t either, she was just ordering crutchless panties for validation 🤣 it’s all a game to keep you onside until that final break, they know if you knew exactly what they were up to, you wouldn’t be so friendly and amicable, and they would have all the extra issues of moving etc etc. took me 3 years to figure that out…don’t get caught in the same trap.

It’s sad, but divorce is going to cost you either way. You need to spend some money on a good lawyer to save money in the end. They are all “fair and reasonable” while they are getting their own way, as soon as you challenge that you become a deadbeat piece of shit. Not sure about how it works there, but I’m sure my lawyer and her lawyer conferred on what a crazy person they were dealing with.

First thing I did was delete her in every instance I could find, and block all social media. It’s tough, but she ain’t coming back, and really, you don’t want her back. Cold hard cut is tough, but works in the end, the only variable is how far in the future the end part is, but, it’s comes a lot quicker without the constant reminders.

It’s so weird, while I was in the thick of the marriage I would wish for so many bad things to happen to her, she was an absolute nightmare. I lived that way for 20+ years. I watched her treat our kids like obviously her parents must have treated her, I wrote down a note once when our oldest was around 10, it just said one day, you will drive him to suicide, and 10 years later he had tried a few times. Then she left me, the daily mental warfare was reduced (divorce still has plenty of battles) a…

Divorce looks bad, feels good in the end. What changed for me. I got 100% of my wages in my account instead of 20%, I got $500,000 from 1/2 a house, I got peace of mind, and I got respect. Also, the rest of the world got to see her true colours.
/r/Divorce_Men23/09/24 01:44 AM

My first year was blah, even with dating and getting back out and about, my mental health was absolutely shot. Coming up on 4 years soon, things are so much better, new place, new partner, lots of love and understanding instead of blame and accusations. Things do get better…I still think back sometimes, but more often than not, I’m thinking back and looking how lucky I was to get away.
