Nah, they didn't present it this way. It seemed genuine. They were done eating (that's why I hesitated to even bother starting the small talk) and one of the girls mentioned that they were supposed to join her boyfriend in a couple of minutes. They said that it was cool I proposed to join and even waved while leaving
