If tax dollars pay for healthcare, then we must acknowledge that abortion is healthcare, isn't it?

Unfortunately, it's entirely possible she did hear it from her mom. You might be surprised at the things that "good" parents say to their children when they think no one is watching. Your comment reminds me that I was once actually told that I have a personality that only a parent could love.

I've experienced issues with trust, myself. I wrote in my own personal journal that there is no such thing as trust without vulnerability. And furthermore, I've come to think that some of my issues with worrying about what may happen in the future is a smokescreen to avoid my emotions about how I feel about the present.

I'm going to make a few suggestions. First, I think that "legal paternal surrender" is a much better term than "financial abortion". Having an abortion versus giving up rights to a child are two completely different ways of theoretically exercising one's autonomy. As a matter of fact, I think that someone here said that in Denmark, "legal paternal surrender" is something available to both parents. Second, I think that a really good starting point for reforming the child support system would be t…

It is treatable, but it is also heavily stigmatized and frequently misdiagnosed. I began to suspect that I could benefit from treatment when someone I know told me that they had been diagnosed with BPD and I found their experiences relatable. I am very fortunate that my therapist said that rather than thinking of borderline patients as being "too difficult" to treat, they, for whatever reason, have an affinity for borderline patients and a deep compassion for the suffering we experience. I am ve…

I would like to say a few words about mental health. I have nothing to add about Heard's reprehensible behavior. I personally don't have a formal diagnosis of a personality disorder, but it became clear in therapy that I have some of the symptoms and my therapist uses the same treatment strategies that they would have used if I did have a formal diagnosis. Having lived with these symptoms and having seen improvement with therapy, I know that it's so easy to use personality disorders as a cudgel …

The Daily Mail is utter sensationalist rubbish. There's plenty of outrageous stuff in the news, but The Daily Mail isn't worth reading, much less getting upset about. I used to follow a news aggregation web site, and whenever I saw a link to something in The Daily Mail, I'd just ignore it with the mind that if the story is important, I'll see it somewhere else.

I get the impression that the word "privilege", while it can be used to describe observable things, is used as a social and political cudgel to bash people deemed wrong or non-progressive enough. I seldom use it for this reason. And besides, I often hear "privilege" used to describe things that should be considered common decency. When I admitted that I was seeking mental healthcare around two decades ago, I literally had a family member say to me something like, "What would you say to me if I told you that I can't handle my problems, so I'm going to take medicine." Stupid, ignorant, talk. It evinces the kind of willful ignorance that refuses to learn.

There is way too much shaming of mental illness in this country. I've been there, too. I know what it feels like. I hope you will be better soon. You can do that with better sex ed, more birth control options for men + further study on the male reproductive system, Intactivism (minor case) and providing male reproductive rights. The thing that many pro-choice folks like to point out is that many of the Christian tradcons who seek to restrict/ban are diametrically opposed to sex ed and birth control, and push abstinence from sex until marriage as the only reasonable choice.

I am a transgender woman. Please take away my penis. Please take this burden away from me. I don't mean to imply that all transphobia is rooted in misogyny; quite the contrary. "Transmisogyny" refers to prejudice against transgender women, regardless of the reason for the prejudice, even if it is misandry. As a matter of fact, I had a conversation with a transmasculine person who said, "Transmisogyny is rooted in misandry and transmisandry is rooted in misogyny", referring to how many transphobes describe transgender men as if they are "lost little girls" or cult victims. Also, since …

That sounds like a good start for a taxonomy of transmisogynists. I would add that the Biological Essentialist Conservative you described would include people who think that trans people are mentally ill. People have put forth all manner of proposed answers to the question of why transgender people like myself are hated so much by some people. Which answer is correct? My theory is that all of them are correct! There are so many different people who hate transgender people and no two of them are exactly alike, so most any theory you can come up with as to why transgender are hated is going to match up with at least a few transphobes. And I agree that especially for "Gender Critical Feminist" types…

I didn't expect to see this kind of war happen in my lifetime. It's terrible what is happening to these people, but regardless of how the Ukrainians conduct the defense of their country, the men and women who have reported for duty to fight the Russian invaders never chose to be invaded. I'm going to throw something out there. I'm autistic and I also have been going thru male-to-female gender reassignment, so my experience with my female wife is going to be different from yours. Homophobia is obviously an issue for both gay men and women. However, homophobia is also an issue for straight men and women because heteronormativity causes straight men and women to feel pressure (and sometimes coercive violence) to "act straight". Even people who have never experienced the slightest attraction to a member of the same sex can be a victim of homophobia simply because they are perceived as having homosexual characteristics.

As someone to whom traditional gender roles usually seem completely alien, it amazes me how inconsistent they are sometimes. Why do you think that traditional roles seem completely alien to you? Does it mean that you're unfamiliar with them or they make you uncomfortable to conform to, or something else? As a trans-feminine person, I can confirm that there is a good bit of talk about misandry in transgender spaces on Reddit. In particular, I've gathered that a lot of trans-masculine people take offense to the notion that they're somehow "better" than the "other men" whom are referred to by "men are trash" and the like. They will tell you that they feel insulted and "othered" as their gender identity isn't being respected. There was a meme a while back where someone proclaimed that sexists think …

If the warmongers actually bring us to the point of actually using the "Selective Service" to conscript young men for war, the warmongers will have so thoroughly terrorized our people that I would imagine that they would basically pull an Andrew Jackson on any legal attempts to stop the draft. (For those of you who don't know, the SCOTUS ruled that President Andrew Jackson's programs of "removing" Native Americans was Unconstitutional, and he simply ignored the ruling and did what he wanted.)

You have the right to be LGBT, and that matters to the large majority of the population that is not LGBT. It matters because everyone should have the right to live their best life. Artificial wombs would be amazing for a number of reasons, but I imagine that many people would opt for the "natural" experience. My wife gave birth to a beautiful child years ago and opted for a natural birth with no drugs, and I fully supported her choice. She describes her pregnancy as a very special experience and if she were to chose to have another child and there was an artificial womb available, I think she'd chose to go the natural route unless there was a special medical reason for it.

It is entirely appropriate to cast the terf movement as negative. Has medical science really come so far as to be able to create decent enough simulacra of genitalia that they can pass as real? As a trans person seeking vaginoplasty, I have been told that the answer is generally yes, but I don't know about phalloplasty. The point I was trying to make is that one might fantasize about doing something and then find out in a very unpleasant manner that in practice, it is not fun at all. The difference I see for mens' rights is that we're not what's considered to be an oppressed class. This needs to change. As someone who is going thru gender transition, I've come to understand that while there are challenges to being female (or at least perceived as such) that no one should have to face, the same is true of being male. As someone who hatched as a member of the LGBT community several years ago after more than three decades of living as a cis-het man, I have this to say. I recall that in the 2010s, there was a lot of progress made in pushing back against the criminalization of cannabis, and many advocates for cannabis legalization/decriminalization said that they looked up to the LGBT community as a role model for gaining acceptance. There was actually an article on Medium the other day (that I don't have the link to right now) about this very topic. He mostly writes about child abuse, but he repeatedly hammers the theme that emotional abuse is abuse, and in a way, can be even more damaging because people who experience abuse may minimize it by saying, "At least I wasn't hit." Or if they were hit, they might say, "At least I was only slapped across the face instead of punched like the kid next door." He also remarks that physical abuse can …

Also reminds me a lot of my philosophy classes in college. One idea I got exposed to over and over again was that attaining knowledge is never a task that can actually be completed. A mountain that you can ascend, but never actually reach the top of. So in order to be a philosopher, you need to accept the idea of struggling to make progress whilst never being able to sit back, satisfied, and say "Ok, now I know everything." But the human mind is egotistical and doesn't want to accept the bleak v…

Personally, I feel like capitalism helps people practice the denial of responsibility through the notion of “ownership”. That which is not mine is not my responsibility. And thus I’m late stage capitalism we get such indifference, and many get left out. Not only does capitalism teach us "That which is not mine is not my responsibility", but it also teaches us that other people's value to us is how we can extract value from them.

I wanted to share this classic old manifesto by General Smedley Butler, published in 1935, between WW1 and WW2. I think it's amazing how relevant his words are in today's world even though he wrote them almost 90 years ago. Because it is easier and more satisfying to cast shade and hate upon marginalized people than to help them. To pick another example, why do people become racists and spout off rhetoric about black-on-black crime rather than talking about historical oppression and systemic inequity; those are hard problems that are uncomfortable to even contemplate. Much easier to blame marginalized people for their own problems, and it feels better, to boot!

Some feminists are class-blind. Many of them are quite class-conscious. I get the impression that class-blind feminism, sometimes called "White Feminism" is more of a European thing. I guarantee you that you could keep both countries off this path if you could fix those things, but our masters want us working long hours; they want us living in fear and precarity; and they profit from a high cost of living. Hail Capitalism!

Those men always were queer though, we are just more aware of it now that the concept of queer men becomes more acceptable. That is correct. I'm saying that it has nothing to do with "a lack of dateable women".

The only way my comment is "brilliant" is that I point out something that would be obvious if we, as a society, weren't so blind to it. There is actually a term, "covert narcissism", that describes someone who uses their "victim" position in order to manipulate others for attention. That being said, I'm actually a bit uncomfortable with the term "covert narcissism" because I fear it being weaponized to further victimize people who are hurting. I remember reading a comment years ago (I want to sa…

I don't want to start an argument here, but I would point out that mastectomy is a necessary and very invasive medical procedure that many trans men go thru. I don't know the details, but "bottom surgery" for trans men is very expensive and the results typically described as less realistic than what trans women get. There is also the issue of height and body shape. If you're 5'2 and have wide hips and narrow shoulders and an oval-shaped face, you're quite likely to get "clocked", just like a 6'0…

Hello, fellow non-binary AMAB :-) I am married to a wonderful lady, but I would expect the system to treat me like garbage at the drop of a hat because I am AMAB and bigger than my partner. And besides, being autistic and gnc and everything, I think I can safely say that I lot of people would prefer that I didn't exist. "Intersectionality" is a real trip, isn't it?

Well, not exactly. Terfs are very crystal clear on the fact that they don't accept trans women who have a vaginoplasty. I've heard of remarks like, "I refuse to call it a vagina. I prefer to call it a second asshole." Like their tradcon counterparts, terfs believe that if you were born with a penis and XY chromosomes, you are male for life, and thus, a threat to the well-being of women and girls no matter what. It's gross.

Honestly, as far as I can see, it has nothing to do with this guy being a "white knight". It has to do with the powers that be telling the lower classes that they aren't fit to make money off of manipulating the stock market like the elites are. I'm not going to check your sources right now, but given how sensitive the topic is, I would be especially careful not to erase the struggles of lesbian women when talking about the struggles of gay men, and trying to make comparisons between the two is a slippery slope. I have become more and more progressive over the years, and reading this article, I can't help but think of all the mothers and fathers out there who labor under demanding jobs that leave no room for work-life balance. The way I usually say it is that crying is a function of the human body. It is like eating, sleeping, defecation, urination, burping, vomiting, sneezing, cough, yawning, or anything else the human body does. We have norms about how we do all these other things, but I do agree that men are unfairly pathologized for crying. Thinking of what they said about how grades are based in part on how well students blend into the way school is organized, I can't help but be reminded of how John Taylor Gatto wrote that based on his research and personal experience as a teacher, school as we know it was designed to churn out obedient workers who are good at following instructions.

You wouldn't do that in Pa\ia. Most land in Hawaii is astronomically expensive. If you found a place where you could join an organic farm, it would be a long-established place from before the days that real estate in Hawaii became insanely commercialized.

I'm sorry you're in the place where you're at. I do think it's debatable whether or not what you did should be considered against the law, but to put you on this list forever does seem like cruel and unusual punishment to me. From what you've said, I don't think that you've done something that would make you irredeemable. But before attempting to do a thing like this, I do think that you would be remiss if you didn't take a serious look at yourself and ask if you can actually see yourself workin…

I used to be a little bit familiar with Hawaii. I know that there are some organic farm communes out in the boonies. I don't know if you might possibly find any acceptance in a place like that. I know that they're not entirely "off the grid" like they might have been in the past. Years ago, I once visited there and I stopped in at a road-side smoothie shop operated by one of these farms on the southeast side of Maui. The road was unpaved and the blender was powered by a stationary bike. The lady…

You rush to blame "gynocentrism". This is a puritan system meant to punish and shame people for having sex. Many of the countries without a sex offender registry would be seen as more "gynocentric" than the USA. Fortunately, many US states did change their laws. They have what we call "Romeo and Juliet" statues that shield young adults and teenagers from being prosecuted for consensual sex. They vary from state to state. Also, good on the OP for pointing out that mental illness is the intended o…

Thanks. To be clear, I am not black. Harriet Tubman has been on my mind for a specific reason. I have a 5 year old who has been learning at home because of the COVID pandemic, and school is officially over this week. She has plenty of time at home, so I see no reason that learning should cease until August. I thought it would be fun to educate her by telling her stories about real historical people, and that of course raises the question of what people I should teach her about. Tubman is someone…

Interesting post! I've said many times that as a person undergoing gender transition, I'm curious about notions of what it means to be a man or a woman. I think that in some ways, that's actually changing. Warren Farrell, for instance, wrote about "survival roles versus fulfillment roles". I think that what is really going on is that human beings are responding to changes in their environments and their "selection pressures". Recently, we had a video shared here about life in medieval times. The…

I did not say anything about which gender commits suicide more in which country. I'm simply saying that guns alone are not the issue because there are places where suicide is common even when guns are difficult to obtain. Japan is one of many of these.

It ruffles my feathers when people say that Americans commit suicide because of guns when there are countries where guns are strictly regulated where there is more suicide. Consider the case of Japan where more people commit suicide and hanging is the most common method.

You can talk about instincts allowing tribes to survive generations, but tribes can certainly change over the generations. Consider the Icelanders, for example. Iceland is considered one of the most peaceful countries in the world and statistically the safest country from crime, and consider that in the context that Iceland's history is anything but peaceful. Neither men's right's nor women's rights can exist under a theocratic or totalitarian regime. A totalitarian or theocratic regime demands that men go to war and police service to enforce the hegemony of the totalitarian regime and that women birth and raise up the next generation of loyal subjects. The only "pro-male", or pro-female for that matter, thing you can do in such a regime is work to subvert it.

I seriously doubt it. The bill has been signed into law. The lawmakers carefully removed other catches that would have checks withheld from people who owe money for various things, and they specifically excluded people who are behind on child support from being helped by this "stimulus".
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates02/04/20 05:16 AM

I think that given the circumstances, it is inhumanly cruel to withhold stimulus checks from poor people. In the case of someone behind on child support, the custodial parent is getting their own check, plus the additional payment for dependent children, so I really don't see that the custodial parent is going to suffer because the non-custodial parent got a meager handout.

I found the video to be generally insightful, but I can point out at least one fact he gets wrong. He says that in a divorce, the property is split 50/50. If I'm not mistaken, in the USA, in some states, this may be true, but in some other states, the courts have authority to divide property "equitably", which may or may not entail dividing it 50/50. I'm saying that the issues that this sub was purportedly established to discuss are very serious issues. For example, according to the statistics, we have a number of homeless people in the USA the size of the population of the entire city of Fresno, California, with about 3/…

Dear God, that discussion is a cesspit. What do they have (just near the top before I stopped reading): women referred to as "foids" crass remarks about women not knowing what they wanting and living in an imaginary utopia Remarks comparing men who show their feelings called "whiny bitches", or something to that effect. That discussion is stupid, and we're all stupider for having been linked to it.

No, transphobia is a result of toxic masculinity, not the result of toxic masculinity. Some transphobes are TERFS. There are transphobes who are not TERFs.

LGBT rights are a huge part of human rights for both women and men because when LGBT people are treated with dignity and respect, straight women and men don't have to worry about conforming to rigid gender roles in order to avoid being scorned for the possibility that they might be LGBT. This also relates to "toxic masculinity".

I think that u/cromulent_weasel is correct that "toxic masculinity" or "patriarchal masculinity" or whatever you want to call it does play a role in hatred of trans women for some transphobic people. u/YooGeOh is correct to point out that it is absurd to say that TERFs are such because of toxic masculinity, but as I said in another comment, TERFs are only one flavor of transphobia.

I 100% agree that TERF ideology is rooted in misandry. They believe that men are dangerous people and that trans women are men pretending to be women. However, TERFs are simply one "flavor" of transmisogynists; there are many transphobes who are not TERFs.

I had a therapist who I went to see for suicidal depression among other issues tell me I should man up. I saw several crummy therapists in my early twenties. It was enough to dissuade me from wanting therapy again for a decade. I saw a doctor about a health issue who was very adamant that my emotional state was making my condition worse. I'm glad I followed his advice because I found a therapist I really like and I've been seeing her for years. On the one hand, I did do some more research, but I…

This story has a very misleading title. I would go as far as to call it outrage porn. The article presents life expectancy as a class issue, highlighting that life expectancy has stalled/declined in the poorest areas in Britain. It very specifically blames poverty and and the "austerity" programs under the Conservative government.

MBTI has its limits, but I do find it to be a useful, if flawed, personality type taxonomy. I experienced a lot of emotional neglect and emotional abuse as a child and I've taken several knock-off MBTI tests (not the office one) and I always type as INFP. I did some reading about what people with an INFP personality are typically like, and while no one is 100% the general image of their MBTI type, I found that many descriptions of the INFP personality type are strikingly descriptive of me. As stigmatizing as it is to be trans, one of the really nice things about the trans community, as I've known it, is that generally speaking, they're super accepting of people with diverse sexual orientations. Feel free to DM me if you ever feel the need to chat about something.

This is one of the better comments I've seen here. As someone whose politics has been tilting more progressive recently, I think that "neoliberal" is the better label for those who have brought us to where we are today. Perhaps a better way of putting it would be to say that our masters have engineered a world where we are all fighting over crumbs. We're sitting here arguing about the "pay gap" when our economy has produced a surplus that would meet everyone's needs were everyone to have a fair …

I would agree if it was "fuck feminists." I may be biased but although I do sometimes see actual misogyny in mens rights, I have not seen it in this sub. I think this is one of the prominent characteristics of the communication gap is that when men criticize feminism they are seen as "hating women." What I think is that feminism needs to be challenged and criticised and "men's rights" and "men's lib" both need to be challenged and criticised as well, and I don't mean this in the sense that they …

There is the site-wide "Shadow Ban", but there are moderator tools that have the equivalent effect of a subreddit shadow ban. The only way to really know if your posts and comments are visible to others is to either log out or browse in private mode. It's actually very easy once you get used to it: Navigate to your post/comment. Copy the URL. Open up a private window and paste in the URL. See if your post/comment is visible.

This is a great point: that many people who want to legally restrict/ban abortion want to also restrict access to birth control and sex education. Personally, I attended a religious school that was staunchly pro-life. If anyone there was pro-choice, they dared not say it out loud. They had an outside consultant visit to give abstinence-only "sex education".

I would think that if she chose to become a mother after she divorced her husband by having an embryo implanted, then she shouldn't be able to collect child support from the biological father without his consent. At this point, the decision to have a child is 100% by her choice. I don't see that he should be held any more responsible that a legal sperm donor. Is there any legal precedent for this?

You probably already know this, but the words from the song Let It Go: "Don't let them in. Don't let them see. Be the good girl you always have to be. Don't let them know. Well, now they know." are widely interpreted as a metaphor for LGBT experiences.

The article clearly said that the woman and her husband divorced, and before the divorce, they had a written agreement saying that in the event of a separation, the embryos couldn't be used by one without the express permission of the other. They made a binding agreement. The court enforced it.

The problem with "toxic masculinity", IMO, is that it is used two ways. On the one hand, it describes a genuine social issue that men feel pressured to speak and behave in certain ways in order to prove their masculinity. On the other hand, it can be used to shame men simply for being men by describing them as "toxic". Gender dysphoria is diagnosed strictly on symptoms, but there is theory that for some (most?) with gender dysphoria, there are physical causes. However, there are many illnesses that are diagnosed strictly on symptoms that have some accompanying theory that the illness has a physical cause. Take narcolepsy, for example. There is evidence that the illness is caused by autoimmunity. However, the illness is diagnosed based on the patient's symptoms and observing, in a laboratory, how they sleep. If…

A good programmer assumes the user is a hacker who will deliberately sabotage the program either to destroy it or pervert it. Therefore they attempt to encode it so it's "airtight." One way I've seen this explained as that as a designer or developer of software, one must consider that some users will be malicious users. Just as we consider how we want the software to interact with "normal" users who, we must consider how we want the software to interact with malicious users.

The word "trender" is an insult to people like me and a truscum dogwhistle. When you call someone a "trender", you're implying that their gender identity is invalid and that you have the right to police their gender identity. I can't say who made the label popular, but I will point out something important. The stigma associated with the label is not going to go away simply by using a different label. It's sort of like how the labels "retard" and "moron" were originally meant to be clinical labels that wouldn't carry social stigma, but because of the social stigma associated with what they describe, these labels (and any others that may replace them) will carry the same stigma so long as society has the same attitudes…

The author of the article was very clear that the paper was saying that all other things being as they are today, he thought that it would be fair for men to spend more time at paid labor to make up for women's unpaid domestic work. I think that the way that the conclusion is presented is highly problematic, to say the least, but I do agree with feminists that as a society, we need to convey more value to domestic labor performed by women.

The problem is that most anyone can call themselves a "feminist" and say any vile thing they want to. Then, whoever else calls themself "feminist" receives guilt by association. I remember someone on r/AskFeminists once said that if she addressed every problematic thing said by someone calling themself a "feminist", she would have time for nothing else. And yet, the author of Slate Star Codex said in "Radicalizing the Romanceless" that he could find many feminists saying all sorts of harmful thi…

Great article. Thanks for sharing! I've never really been able to articulate it well, but the way I've come to see things, I think that sexism is akin to an autoimmune illness plaguing humanity. For those of you not familiar with the concept of autoimmune illness, it refers to a category of illness in which the immune system attacks healthy tissue instead of attacking pathogenic invaders. Individual men and women comprise this organism that we call "humanity". Anger is a name we give to feelings…

Essentially, Karen is correct. Feminists often say 'those aren't real feminists'....and then do nothing about those who say that men should be killed, that men can never, ever be victims of rape, sexual assault, etc, that women never lie, etc etc. Terfs, for example, are rarely ever even MENTIONED by feminists, let alone told to stop calling themselves feminists or something. Feminism is a movement that does zero self policing, so its radial elements can just do whatever the fuck they want. I do…

I am also transfeminine. I've been in transition about 18 months now. From what I've gathered, "gender critical feminists", or "terfs", are people who hate men and think of transgender women as men who seek to invade female-only spaces. There is nothing egalitarian about "gender critical feminists". They may say that they are "critical" of the concept of gender, but even a cursory look at their subreddit and their publications shows that they are utterly obsessed with gender essentialism. I will…

The "nice guy" slur is just feminist deflection. Interestingly, I first came across the expression "nice guy" in a book about dating I read about 15 years ago. I forget exactly which one, but it was written by one of the PUA types (and not Roosh V). I think I once read a comment by someone on r/askfeminists or r/menslib who said that the essence of the "nice guy" syndrome is that a man basically expects sex as a result of feeding "virtue tokens" to the lady he desires to be with. The author of t…

The fact is that large part of the MRM has been taken over by OnlyTrumpers and diehard tradcons in the same way that a part of the left has been riddled with Intersectional wokeness. I've had this notion in the back of my mind for a long time. I've been an atheist almost my entire adult life and I've noticed that for some people, their political and philosophical beliefs give them a tribal identity not unlike religion. Making an exception specifically for Jews and Muslims would run into all kinds of problems with separation of church and state as well as equal protection. I think you would have to offer a generic "religious" or "ethical" exemption, sort of like some US states allow parents to opt out of policies mandating vaccination. It is already reported that simply making gov't programs such as medicare and medicaid not paying for circumcision cuts the rate of circumcision down a lot. If we gave religious …

I agree with you that equal paid parental leave should be a very high priority and it shouldn't be controversial. I think that many feminists would wholeheartedly support an effort to achieve equal paid parental leave because it would allow for men in heterosexual relationships to do more to support their families after childbirth. Legal recognition of male rape victims should not be controversial, either. However, I disagree with you regarding abolition of male conscription and circumcision. Co…

There is of course the notable "Women shouldn't be scantily-clad if they don't want to be raped!". It sounds like she takes a narrow view of this. It reminds me of the expression, "When your only tool is a hammer, everything looks like a nail." Naturally, if she thinks of violence as an expression of male domination, it doesn't make sense that there should be much female-on-male violence, but at the same time, one might think it should rule out same-sex violence. I might have to look at that again; it's been a while for me. I don't remember her saying that. I can give you a good example. I read the book "Feminism is for everyone", by bell hooks. She had quite a bit to say about upper-class white women who call themselves "feminist" while ignoring issues that affect women of color, lgbt women, and working-class women. She suggested that many such "feminists" want nothing more than to force upper-class white men to share "their power" with them.

So this complaint is invalid. The way I'm reading this, you're saying that it isn't sexist because we're reducing both men and women to "objects". Define your sexism. After all, according to the majority of femeroids, it is apparently sexism to acknowledge that men and women are different. Well, for starters, I would consider referring to women as "femeroid" is a good example of sexism, as is referring to men as "moids". I had some close contacts in the news industry during the implementation of Colorado's first-in-the-nation "Amendment 64" law that legalized small amounts of cannabis in Colorado. There was one newspaper I was familiar with that seemed to run stories about cannabis nearly everyday, but the one little thing I remember most about it was that they interviewed a pro-cannabis activist who said something along the lines of "I can't believe this day has come. I remember a time not too long ago when I c…

It is absolutely true that some people who experience gender dysphoria may be influenced by the idea that members of the opposite sex are treated more favorably in various situations. From what I've gathered, in the transgender community, there is far more concern about discrimination and prejudice against people for being transgender than there is concern about discrimination against people for being male or female. The feminist author bell hooks stated emphatically in her book "The Will to Change" that women have a big role in enforcing "patriarchal" roles for men, even to the point of suggesting that boys raised by single mothers can be pushed just as hard to be "patriarchal" as those raised with a father present.

u/NeverFelted is referring to a South Park episode where "Stan", one of the many white boys, is castigated by "Token", the only black child at his elementary school, for "not getting racism". As the show progresses, Stan desperately tries to show Token that he "gets it" until finally at the end, he joyfully exclaims: "I get it! I don't get it!" Yeah, a "pity fuck" is not a substitute for the real emotional intimacy that is missing from these people's lives. This parallels the fact that for many people, rape is not just about sex; it is about power and violence. So many things that seems to be about sex are actually about so much more!

I definitely agree that it is unfortunate that the language can be confusing, or in the case of the word "meme", the concept that the word originally referred to can be difficult to refer to unambiguously. Meme is actually a really great word, IMO.

I guess what it really comes down to is that words can change their meaning in different times and places. I don't think it means that the language has been degraded. To give a few examples, in Geoffrey Chaucer's "Knight's Tale", written 600 years ago, the word "harness" is used to describe a protective metal suit that a warrior wears into battle that we would call "armor". The word "mansion" has been borrowed by the Japanese and used to refer to large residential buildings that house hundreds o…

Well, that was a rather weird video. At the end, he proposes that a charity be created where women would volunteer to have sex with "incels". Having experienced a part of my life years ago where I could have been described as an incel myself, I think I can say that even if such a charity attracted ample volunteers, it still wouldn't solve the problem, or at least not completely. The problem is that you would simply be giving sex to men (and women) who couldn't attract a mate on their own. Such g…

I thought that "Black Pill" refers to incels who believe that there is something about them that makes them fundamentally undesirable to the opposite sex, such as having a facial bone structure that they believe is not in the correct proportions to attract a mate. Is that wrong?

They may not like hearing their names mentioned here, but I would like to give a shout-out to Natalie Wynn and "Beau of the Fifth Column" for their compassionate and humanizing talk about incel men on their popular YouTube channels. There was a time in my past when I might have been labeled an "incel", and I'm really glad that it was before there was all this virgin-shaming of incel men, insinuating that they are latent psycho-killers.

I would be careful how I talked about "taking away the choice". In some cases, taking away the choice can actually be empowering because it removes a choice from consideration that wasn't free chosen in the first place because the person making the decision felt compelled to choose it. For instance, I once read about an American who took an office manager job in Japan. He was concerned about his subordinates working excessive overtime. Rather than simply telling them, "You have the choice to not…

I've quite certain that she would cringe at anyone suggesting that she's like an MRA, but she has some very positive things to say about men. She is very upfront about her belief that women have a need to be loved by the men in their lives, that even lesbians need to be loved by their fathers, if no one else. hooks describes "patriarch…

Fortunately, newer legal policy in many states means that lifetime alimony is only for longer marriages. However, some states still have policies that allow for lifetime alimony after marriage of 20 years. Personally, I think that such policies should also take into account the age of the divorcing partners. If a couple is divorcing at 60 after being married since 40, that's one thing, but a lifetime alimony judgement when a couple divorces at 40 after being married at 20? No way!

Twins share 100% DNA. The point is that scientists who have asked the question why some people are transgender have found that a person who has a monozogotic twin who is transgender is far more likely than average to also be transgender. Since monozygotic twins share 100% DNA, it strongly suggests that DNA plays some role in determining whether or not a person is transgender. Since the correlation isn't 100%, that also suggests that DNA is not the only thing that plays a role.

Also MtF here. If you want a good example of female empowerment in the movies, see anything by Hayao Miyazaki. As I've mentioned before, I know the feeling. I'm transgender and one of the first things I learned about being trans on reddit is that we have our very own "against rights" sub. It's called "Gender Critical". They call themselves "radical feminists" and they wrap their hate for trans people in the flag of concern for women. And oh yes, they hate men, too! They troll transgender subreddits, link and brigade, and they've even created individualized threads simply to spew hate and vitriol about in…

There is a recent discussion on /r/asktransgender about transmen's struggles you may be interested in: https://www.reddit.com/r/asktransgender/comments/ayg3dk/transmen_suffer_from_transphobiarooted_issues_too/ I'll also tell you that I get what you're saying about the trans community being fierce over politics. I was banned and sent an ugly nastygram by the mods of a major trans subreddit because they didn't like something I said. I wish I wish I could agree that it is "just a medical background…

/r/GenderCritical is a hate sub. It exists as a platform for people who hate transgender folks. They simply call themselves "feminists" because it sounds politically correct.

There is more and more evidence emerging that the gender dysphoria in many teens is fueled by peer pressure. Can you be specific about what this evidence is that you say is "emerging"? In regards to the podcast you linked, you've linked 3.5 hours worth of content. Would you like to point to some specific content that backs up your point? Can you summarize a bit for those of us who aren't going to watch all 3.5 hours?

On a certain level, that all sounds well and good: "If we don't let children serve in the military or bind themselves to contracts or even drink alcohol, then why do we let them take hormones to try to change their gender. Let them become adults, and then let them change their gender as an adult if they want." It is such an elegant-sounding solution to a complex problem, and unfortunately, it is wrong for several reasons. As another commenter pointed out, gender dysphoria is a serious health con…

I used to read them occasionally in the past, but "American Thinker" has dropped even the pretense of objectivity when they write about transgender issues. This so-called "American College of Pediatricians" is little more than an anti-transgender activist group masquerading as a professional organization. Don't take my word for it. Google them. To brainwash a child into gender transitioning for political or social reasons is clearly extreme child abuse. As I've mentioned in the past, there is a …

/u/IDprefertostayanon, I hope you don't mind me abruptly changing the subject here, but based on what you've said, I'd like to pick your brain on something. As I sometimes mention here, I am transgender (early in my "transition") and I use this account to discuss issues of gender. I've been curious about the origin of the widespread prejudice against transgender people in the west and you might be surprised to hear me say this, but this subreddit has been an absolute goldmine of ideas about gend…

I had an experience once with a moderator who imho inappropriately banned me from a sub they were moderating. In spite of that, it is a very good sub for those of us who haven't found ourselves in the crosshairs, so I wrote back to the moderator apologizing for causing offence. The mod sent me a nasty-gram that started out with a statement that I am "owed no explanation", but they "wanted me to know" that I had said something really horrible, attributing the worst motives imaginable to what I sa…

/u/Lumberingfeather, You have completely distored what /u/vicsj said. She clearly said that both men and women have issues that need attention. She clearly said that men are being "severely neglected". She clearly said, "Men are still just as important and valued." When you distort what other people say, when you make these sweeping generalizations about women like, "Every @#% time, a woman's sole focus is other @#$%ing women", you are just as toxic as anyone who makes sweeping generalizations a…

Oh boy, another hysterical story about transgender people comes to /r/mensrights. As you can see, haters who wrap themselves in the flag of "feminism" think that they can say anything and have it accepted because they call themselves "feminists", whether it's hating men or hating transgender people. Of course, I'm all for women's rights; I just have a problem when people use it as a cover for hate and prejudice. It seems a bit odd to me that there are such strong anti-transgender contingents on …

Well, I have no way to prove the causality one way or the other. As best I can tell, trying to take someone who is straight and force them to be gay or trans is sort of like trying to force someone to "like" a food that they find disgusting. I don't like eggplant and tofu; it makes me uncomfortable to put it in my mouth. If you put tofu in my mouth and tell me, "Excellent Traffic, you LIKE tofu!", I'm simply going to gag and spit it out and then wonder how you ever convinced me to let you try to…

As I was saying, the "social phenomenon" is acceptance of transgender people, not the existence of transgender people. The existence of transgender people is known to be an old phenomenon and one of the reasons we know this is because western explorers encountered openly transgender people people in indigenous societies hundreds of years ago. For example, they were known as "mahu" in Hawaii and fa'afinefine in Tahiti. Before western influence, a mahu was considered a normal member of their commu…

Just as it was with gay people, it is now with transgender people. Gay people used to be hiding so far inside the closet, they couldn't see the door because their existence was criminal by law, even here in the United States. Now that gay people are more or less tolerated here, they proclaim their existence in broad daylight. Heck, even British war hero Alan Turing wasn't exempt from being treated as a criminal for being gay. It wasn't so long ago that Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad claim…

To those of you saying trans kids don't exist, I can assure you that they most certainly do. Idnetical twin studies strongly suggest that there is something about transgender people that they are born that way (https://genderanalysis.net/2018/03/pervasive-misrepresentation-of-twin-evidence-for-a-genetic-component-of-gender-dysphoria/) I absolutely agree that "forcing a child to be transgender" is horrific child abuse. There is no doubt that to do such a thing is a gross violation of a child's au…

There is actually a tragic, but fascinating story about a boy who was forced by his parents to live as a girl many years ago after his doctor recommended it following a botched circumcision. The boy's name was David Reimer. His life story is very illuminating. RIP, David.

(specifically TERFs) That's a label I don't see on this sub so much as I see it on the subs I usually post to with this account. :-) Personally, I began to mostly ignore links to "The Daily Mail" because they post sensationalist garbage instead of news.

No harm, no foul. This is a controversial and incendiary topic and I don't want anyone more upset than they are already. The 16 year old girl comes to mind because as best I can tell, many people seem to think that the idea of a young man having his testicles and penis operated on is silly or comical, as if he's just willingly taking himself out of competition, but when a young woman has her uterus and/or breasts removed, it is seen as horrifying. In a way, I think that this reflects male dispos…

I recently came across a lecture given by Warren Farrell years ago where he touches at the same issue: that human beings frequently act on instincts that worked well to help them survive and reproduce well enough in a more savage, less civilized age, but in a modern civilization, these same instincts can prevent us from achieving personal happiness and fulfillment: I think for your reading enjoyment: "From Role Mates to Soul Mates, Parts 1 and 2" https://warrenfarrell.com/the-evolution-of-love-f…

I didn't mean to make you feel like I'm arguing with you or attacking you. I'm simply telling you that this whole trans thing goes in both directions. And if you want an article glorifying the female-to-male transition of a five year old, a quick Google search will do the trick: https://www.nbcnews.com/storyline/transgender-kids/jacob-s-journey-life-transgender-5-year-old-n345131 No offense meant to you!

There are plenty of female-to-male transgender people out there, and if you view communities with rampant prejudice against transgender people such as /r/gendercritical or visit the comment section on any breitbart.com article about a transgender person, it shouldn't take you long to hear about the trans community being the bogey-man who supposedly wants your daughter to have a bilateral mastectomy at age 16.

In response to both /u/piperman_ and /u/kingofsweet, there are a few relevant facts left out here. First, you don't need to worry that anyone is giving hormones to a 5 year old. Puberty blockers and hormones are not given to transgender children until they reach puberty age. Second, some children do show signs of gender dysphoria well before puberty, but again, at that age, they wouldn't be receiving hormones. "Gender transition" would simply be a social transition.

Hey! I'm sorry you're not feeling well. I've been lurking this sub for a while and occasionally commenting, but in the last year, I'm come to understand myself to be transgender. As some other folks here have pointed out, there are some therapists who would "steer" you towards identifying as transgender. There are also therapists who would "steer" you in the opposite direction. If you're looking for a community where you can discuss these feelings, I would suggest /r/mtf, /r/nonbinary, /r/asktra…

/u/qaezec, thanks for fighting the good fight here. I've been occasionally lurking around here ever since I saw Cassie Jaye's excellent TED talk and her documentary about the men's rights movement. As an aside, I think you would have to be either disingenuous or insane to call her a purveyor of hate. I've occasionally been lambasted by what I believe is a vocal minority for defending /r/mensrights in trans subs. It's okay; sometimes, a person needs to speak the truth and to heck with the consequ…

Wear you prejudice with pride. You had the balls to make this post... you should have the balls to embrace your bigotry. Very nice! Based on my personal experience knowing bigots in my extended family, I can almost certainly assure you that when they feel like they're in like-minded company, they do wear their prejudice with pride. I've seen this sort of thing with my own eyes.

What is the "two years" you refer to? I should add that I wrote my previous comment before actually reading the article. It sounds like they're saying that there is a dispute between the parents as to whether or not the child is actually transgender. It's not an argument of whether or not to interpret the child's expression of their identity as transgender, but it sounds as if the two parents are describing two completely different children. I previously said emphatically that if the child is ar…

I just wanted to chime in with my $0.02. I created this account specifically to discuss my feelings and experiences with my own gender dysphoria now at age 35. You're right on the money here to point out that at age 6, the child would experience nothing more than a "social transition" which would give her more time to explore and decide on whether to receive irreversible treatment. The Chicken Littles who say that this is child abuse need to understand that. When I was a child, attitudes towards…

I recently came out as transgender and created this account to discuss transgender stuff. I was surprised to learn early on that there is actually an "anti-transgender rights" sub. It actually exists. It's called /r/GenderCritical. Oh yes, and they hate men, too! So even if I decide I'm not transgender after all, they still resent that I exist ;-) So.. I thought you might be interested in knowing that this isn't the only group with an "anti rights" sub out there.
