You’re having to grieve your marriage AND adjust to a different role: co-parenting. It’s hard.

Same thing here. I cope by drinking when I get home. Don’t be like me.

Led to my divorce. Bad move. 100% regret.

All I read was “you’re fine with cheating. Go figure.” Damn. Son got burned.

Oh yeah. Moved 2 hours away too, so a 50/50 will never be possible. Good thinking.

I had a drug arrest history from two years prior at the time of our divorce. Basically she made the rules and I followed. I’m in the same boat looking to expand my access from every other weekend and holidays to something more equitable or at least feel like I have the status of a real parent. I still love my ex-wife and would give up anything for a day with her. That said, I’ll fight her to the death if she tries to move further than the 2 hours away she already is. You love him and you can kee…

I was a stay at home dad at the time of our divorce. We were living on her income. I have visitation and was ordered to pay $450 per month. On no income. To help support the person who was the sole income. Makes sense. Now I make $12.50 an hour and she has a 60k+ salary. I now have to pay more ($450 was for $0-minimum wage). Fuck child support. Obviously the state would rather I be homeless when they visit me just so they can live it up.

I am really just canvassing for ideas/information/experiences. I know joint physical wouldn’t work but I don’t know what all things there are. I just don’t like being legally considered nothing but a baby sitter who has to pay the parents

Yes, driving. And yes. But all it’s gonna do is piss off the ex and I’m still not sure who that helps.

No no no

Sure she does. She can pack them up and go, hide things from me, become less flexible with scheduling and such. I mean she has all the leverage and I have none. Again, I’m the assistant parent/babysitter.

I don’t think so, but it’d make it a nonissue or not a question.

Yeah but does pissing off their custodial parent really benefit anyone?

They’re 5 and 7. I could go, but it would just cause issues with her and I try to respect her boundaries I guess. What you’re saying makes sense.

She thinks it’s awkward and has created a new life up where she moved and doesn’t seem to want to acknowledge that I exist around her new friends/coworkers/etc. I try to respect her boundaries and keep the peace, basically.

I can’t afford to move and would have to leave my job. I want to be closer but it’s not something I can just do. She doesn’t want me to go to any school events or anything and that’s kinda my main annoyance at the moment.

I get holidays and such currently, but since I work the extra time can be kinda useless for me. :( I’m just kinda tired of my ex-wife not letting me go to open houses and such for school things.

I’ve done a lot of therapy and have a regular psychiatrist and a good medicine regimen. I need to get back into individual counseling because I finally have insurance after a year. I had never personally witnessed addiction so when it started for me I didn’t catch it early. Since I was having suicidal behaviors and addiction issues, stabilizing me had to happen before I could be truly diagnosed. When I was, it turns out I have borderline personality disorder. I am neurologically inclined to act …

How is it deflecting to explain part of it. Clearly I didn’t handle the difficulties well so even that is further condemnation of myself from it. Given how you’re a judgmental asshat, I doubt you’re much fun yourself.

I’m not evading my responsibility by explaining that part of it was the result of a disorder. I definitely got a bj from basically a stranger; however, I’m explaining that was not something I was in 100% control of. I still did it, but it changes the context a bit.

I do. I understand that will likely never happen, but I really do love her and that will never stop.

There are a lot of factors. The biggest factor was an undiagnosed mental illness that was not being treated well despite how much we were trying

Yeah I can’t imagine being in your position. I guess I do have two problems still: I never wanted to live like this and have things happen this way. I was spiraling out of control and neither one of us could stop me. So it was 0% malicious. In that respect, I hate that I did it and hate to see how much it hurt because I never wanted that. Also, I didn’t have an emotional aspect to things. It was a random bj, not a full blown affair. I never wanted anyone else or anyone to replace her. I didn’t w…

I only want to enter it to see whatever my daughters are trying to show me when I go to pick them up and when I need to go to the restroom. This is not a straw man. Lol. For instance, we’ve stayed at their house playing with toys in the yard and when I’ve needed to go to the restroom I’ve had to drive off. I’m not complaining…I respect her boundaries even if I don’t get them. I’m just saying it’s odd to me. And I know being besties isn’t the expected outcome; I’m just saying it seems weird to ha…

Yeah I did and told her and then two years later we split. So we’ve slept together since then and all of that which is why it’s just weird to me. But I get the feeling I suppose.

Yeah I think that makes sense. Like she thinks it’d be awkward to be seen with me because we’d be presumed married…

I just mean it’s not split custody. Only visitation. Ok I hear what you’re saying and it makes sense. I guess I still just don’t want to make her mad and that’s my issue.
