Good advice, but I'd recommend clearing all debts and building a six to eight month safety net in living expenses for an emergency fund first. Pay cash for everything, don't take out loans or build up any credit card debt. Doing these things will make one more unique than dying one's hair. If you need to save up for a major purchase, divert money budgeted for investments toward the new goal temporarily before taking on debt.

Sometimes it's necessary. If the standards aren't being followed, or common sense maintenance tasks aren't being completed between the regular work. I prefer not to do it as it takes time away from other tasks. The key is developing the habit. If you can force yourself to do it for 20 to 30 days, then it becomes easier. I put other people and activities on a lower priority than my own stuff.
