Funny thing is, removing the clitoral hood is way less damaging and destructive than removing the foreskin. The foreskin and clitoral hood perform similar roles (protecting the glans penis or glans clitoris) but the foreskin is more comparable to the inner labia since it is sexually sensitive while the clitoral hood isn't.

I had to have the procedure done at 7 due to phimosis. Um...7 year olds can't get phimosis. The foreskin is fused to the glans at birth and doesn't separate until puberty (sometimes later). Because circumcision removes an entire anatomical structure that is erogenous with thousands of nerve ending from the penis while ear piercings only put a small hole in a piece of skin that isn't erogenous.
