Years ago when my divorce was fresh I took my kiddo out to get my ex something for Mother’s Day, then we took her to her choice of restaurant where I paid (I was broke at the time). When Father’s Day came she didn’t even have my kid call me, nothing. So next year I told my ex we should meet up for lunch for Mother’s Day. She picked the restaurant, I showed up, ordered a water and a salad, can had them split the check. Never wished her a happy Mother’s Day again.

Why is it exactly your MIL has a guardianship over your wife?

I wish my ex would have physically abused me because the scars from her mental abuse takes much longer to heal. Unfortunately I don’t get to have the title of DV survivor like others so proudly wear.

I kept the house and lived in it for well over a decade post divorce. Moved and my mental state has been amazing for the first time in many years.

As long as laws promote this kind of behavior, it’s just good practice to break up a marriage.

Huh, thanks for the link. I’ve been the “default parent” for years now, doing it all including taking most of the financial burden also. I’ve never complained about it, but see it as I’m lucky.

Pretty much same thing happened to me, got a GAL. GAL was completely useless and her decision was for my ex. I figured I was gonna lose when we went to trial, but I was always gonna go down swinging. Come to find out, I have an amazing attorney and the judge really didn’t like my ex after the trial. I got sole legal, CS, and attorneys fees when it was all said and done. I went to the same prelaw school the GAL did around the same time, but most GALs are not quite good enough to be a “real attorn…

Here the thing. If you were business partners will OP and he did this with his personal money, would you feel comfortable with him having access to the business funds? I understand the underlying theme everyone is trying to get at. My wife divorced me when I got laid off. That was her being ALL ABOUT THE MONEY. I wasn’t being reckless with my/our money. If he’s wallstreetbets-ing his personal money, I wouldn’t trust him with a dollar. Edit: He also said it was all his money then said “our” savin…

You sound like a lucky idiot with money. You yolo everything your financial future on a startup, lose all of it, now once it rebounded you keep it from her? You’re playing game and I’m not sure you’re mature enough for a relationship anyway.

I kept the house and told her to take anything out of it while I was out of town. I didn’t care about material possessions and the important stuff for me was already at my folks house. I just assumed she took all of the wedding stuff and whatever until about 10 years later I’m cleaning out the attic and see boxes with her wedding dress and albums and whatnot. I took them all down (because I need the attic space) and put them in the trash can. Texted the ex and said all of it is in the trash can …

When I paid CS it was every other year I got to claim and it was all drawn out in the order. Was it fair? Not at all. But that’s what happens. That’s why I only have one child. I love being a dad but couldn’t stand trying to coparent with someone who has BPD. I just referred to my CS checks as the price for freedom from the ex.

I am absolutely not giving you advise. But during and several years after my divorce I had cash stored in a safe deposit box that wasn’t in my name. Worked fine for me.

The first year after our divorce I took my ex out to dinner for Mother’s Day with our child who was young at the time. I was quite broke then but paid for the whole thing. When Father’s Day came around not a single card, phone, nothing was sent my way. The next year I took my ex out again for Mother’s Day, let her pick the place and all, I ordered a water and salad. States get money from child support from the federal government. Divorce is only good business for the government if someone is forced out of the children’s lives, thus CS is paid.

I get CS because I’m the only sane parent per the courts. But the small amount I get, if I actually do get it which is another story, doesn’t cover but maybe the first 5 days of the month. 90% of my child’s needs and wants are paid out of my pocket. But now I wouldn’t be able to claim her on my taxes every year? I’ll just give up the CS because I would save more money on taxes. I love it when the “moral majority” starts making new laws. Mine doesn’t have an understanding of money. She is now broke and I have earned much more since the divorce. I can make and invest money, but the freedom from her was worth the money I had to pay. It was my mistake marrying her so I paid the punitive price and moved on.

That’s exactly why you need a good attorney. I had no idea my ex had a retirement account hidden from me during my divorce, but my attorney did. Got her to waive me paying her half the equity of the house if I give up my right to half her retirement. I did it and over a decade later it was a very good decision.

I was extremely suicidal when my wife asked for a divorce and we separated. She left me and I only for 30% at the time (I now have about 80%). I wish I could time travel back a decade when this happened to tell myself things get so much better and she was the reason for my horrendous depression. I’m with a new woman 100 times better than my ex ever was. If you find yourself lost in the woods, start walking. You’ll be fine.

I lost so much weight during my divorce I was extremely malnourished when it finally concluded. I was always skinny before the divorce. Then once the papers were signed, I started my new life, getting those bearclaws with a coke every morning, and after a year and a half I was about 25 lbs overweight. I’ve kept my weight at a healthy level since by eating healthier, but I see that time during the divorce as just surviving as best I can. It was after when I could rebuild that was the most importa…

My ex more than likely has told all the men she’s been with, including her current husband, that I’m a war criminal. I don’t care and am happy I’m out of her life. I’ve dated several women who have said they have PTSD from their emotionally and verbally abusive exes. I don’t believe it much at all.

Mine was 29 years old, told me she would marry a better man than me (like a doctor or lawyer or something) so our kid can be around a real man. After about a decade of dating losers, she married a guy without a job or a place to live who was in arrears to HIS ex for CS. I have been very blessed in business since the divorce and have been dating a woman much better than her for a few years now. But she wanted the divorce at the time and I didn’t. I’m glad she left me.

Over a decade after my divorce and my ex still does this. I can’t block her yet until our kid turns 18, but I just don’t care anymore. My ex wanted to take my kid away from me when she moved. I told her I would spend unlimited amount of money to fight this in court. I then offered to leave the attorneys out of this and she leaves the kid with me and I’ll not go after CS. She told me to go F myself, so we went to trial. Here’s my list. 1. I don’t have BPD so it is impossible for me to have a relationship with someone who is. 2. I said YES way too many times at the beginning setting the stage for 0 boundaries. 3. I had my whole identity wrapped up in her. 4. I didn’t make enough money. 5. I didn’t work on myself like I did after the divorce. But that’s a catch 22 because if I had done the work, I would have realized we are not compatible. 6. We were way too young and immature.

During the divorce I prayed to Him every night and I still got divorced. I wandered around for a few years believing He has just abandoned me. Then after some time has passed, I stopped and looked around and realized He allowed the divorce because without it, I would be as blessed and have the life I have right now. I’ve been on the dating scene for a bit. It’s not as amazing as it looked from the inside of a marriage. Want love? Get a dog. You pull a divorce she will hate you, turn your kids against you if they don’t already hate you for leaving their mother, and who knows how much money will be lost. Another woman will not bring you happiness. If you aren’t happy right now, it is because of something inside of you. You look for happiness from someone else you will find misery. Yep, pretty much checked all those boxes. Many years later she is still blaming me for her poor position in life when I’ve zero responsibility for that either. I remember the first year after the divorce. I was free of her, was broke, but happy it was done. Went through quite a lot of grieving during that time, but I also realized the life I had built was not built on a proper foundation and was just a house of cards. I remember feeling the same thing. I didn’t care if I had to pay $100 or $10000 a month in CS, I knew I’d be homeless soon anyway. Fast forward a decade later, I’ve got a great house, the kiddo majority of the time (it started out I had 25% physical, but it’s now flipped since), and my ex owes me back CS in the thousands. My ex flaked and I have majority physical custody of my kiddo. It surprises me that people are shocked the mother sometimes just flakes out of a kids life and the dad steps up. I found out early in my divorce to never ask my ex anything about this. Years later she opened up to me about hooking up on ONS unprotected trying just to get knocked up. I told her I don’t want to hear this stuff and shut that down right away. A few month after that “talk” she ended up marrying a guy she just met. I’m telling this story for two reasons: 1. My ex and I divorced when we were in our early 30’s. For around 2 years post divorce she would randomly ask for a booty call from me. She wanted another kid, and I knew she was off birth control. I never gave in and I’m glad I didn’t. She then proceeded to have unprotected sex with ONS and other randoms to try and get pregnant, per her words. Edit: my point is be extremely careful with one night stands and hookups.

I’ve never wanted to hang around my ex, but I did stuff like this with her for the kiddo. Unfortunately she went over the edge last year and after years of our kid not knowing we can’t stand each, it is very clear now. So now I don’t have to do it and it’s quite nice. But if you guys are civil, try to make it work. But if she has BPD or the like, don’t let her manipulate you at all.

If I could do it all over, I’d do exactly this. A trial let’s the judge see you (and everyone else in the case) for who you really are. If the judge just read what my ex filed, he’d probably convict me as a war criminal. But when he saw that I’m just a normal dad and am not a criminal, he jumped fully to my side.

I didn’t sign up for this, I signed up to have a supportive wife coparent with me, not a crazy woman with BPD. But it’s been years now, the kid is getting into adulthood, and I realize I wouldn’t be the father I have been, or enjoy fatherhood as much, if I was still married to that woman.

My ex has BPD and I’ve realized there is no such thing as negotiation with her. And yes, I have to do the same thing you’re doing this time of year. The guy breaks up your marriage, and now has to drive to meet you to pick up/drop off kids that aren’t his. That’s super simp level. I just look at my ex’s husband with pity, even if he never makes eye contact with me. Glad I got my pair back in the divorce.

Listen, I have had to coparent with an extremely abusive and delusional woman for well over a decade. I can’t even tell you how much I’ve paid in CS and legal fees because I refuse to add it all up for my own personal peace. But I have done all this for my kid. I don’t want her to end up like her mother, and so far it looks like my plan is working. Money can be lost and earned, your child cannot.

I was stupid when I was married and let my wife deal with all our finances, savings, etc. She filed for divorce and had hired an attorney and all “our” savings were gone. She took out that money before she filed and I never knew until after. She claimed I was abusive during our marriage, and that was quickly proved wrong by my attorney at the time. But the worst thing she ever did to me was sit me down during the separation and tell me “I will find a better man than you, the one I deserve. And o…

The kids are 7 and 9 and she’s a SAHM? That’s a pretty easy gig at those ages especially during the school year unless you guys are homeschooling. She doesn’t have a job, is an alcoholic, and a cheater.

I was always worried about this since my ex looked me in the eye during our divorce and told me “I’m gonna find a better man than you so our kid can see how a real man lives”. Years later, she couldn’t lock down a man then freaked out and married a guy she met off tinder within about 4 months. This guy owes a lot of back child support to his ex, didn’t have a job and was living with his family, and to this day he has never approached me to shake my hand and say hi. I have dug deeper many times. Only one woman who I’ve dated in the last 8 years was actually married to a pretty bad guy, he ended up in prison for some bad stuff. The others were pretty much “he was EMOTIONALLY or VERBALLY abusive”, which I guarantee you means absolutely nothing. They are fun for a quick minute, but just be careful.

“The so-called party of ‘family values’ has just contributed to erosion of the institution of marriage in Florida”. So there’s about between 3000 to 5000 angry old women in Florida that now hate DeSantis. The mental picture has me laughing. Thanks for the link. So you’re cheating on your wife, divorcing her, and you are a father? So here’s the thing about “focusing on pursuing your happiness”, you’re a father and their happiness should come first. Great fathers sacrifice for their children, not run around on their mom. You shoulda served your wife before you started stepping out. She will probably attack you pretty hard in court and get a lot of money from you. I rarely ever say this, but I think this woman should get all she asks for in this divorce.

I would say by my dating history over just the past decade, which all but one had been married at least once, only 15% of them got the divorced served on them because of a cheating husband or something else. The other 85% admitted to me they checked out because either the man they married didn’t change to their liking, or it was that they showed weakness so their wives decided to move on. So I can say that is definitely the case.

Get the divorce decree to say what you need it to say to protect your role as a father in their lives. After that, your ex will just not even listen to those rules on a legal contract, but that means you can take her to court and hit her with contempt. I had to do that just a few weeks ago.

I used to record my ex when she would call me up and yell at me. I never intended for it to be evidence in the trial we just had, and I’m not even sure I sent them to my attorney. So, I was in the same position as you. My wife wanted to divorce me and I couldn’t see she was dragging me down the whole marriage. When you get a divorce, get a place with a washer, dryer, and dishwasher. Then buy a Roomba. These items seemed to more than replace my ex.

Just got done with a contentious trial. The ex lied all over the place and I had tons of proof. I got lucky, got a pit bull lawyer who tore her up on the witness stand. The ex lost everything, and I got to watch it all. She wasn’t charged with perjury, but pissed off the judge for “wasting the court’s time” with her lies. Now I got lucky with the great attorney and good judge. Many men in my exact situation would not see the same outcome, but there is hope.

This is all completely normal. The term “abuse” has been added to bring an extra kick to them wanting out. A lot of the time they will just say “abusive relationship”, and then explain how they escaped such horrible terrors. Years after my divorce I realized my ex is very manipulative and she was playing mind games with me, yet she convinced me she was the one that was emotionally abused. I have my ex blocked and so does my SO. She still finds everything out. They are great at doing that. And this is why I post nothing on social media (I’m only on there for business). And I made it clear early on in our relationship that my SO can’t post certain pics. She understands because we are always being watched online.

She’s your ex. Talk “alpha” or however you want. She can deal with it on her own or with a counselor. Edit: My ex used to try to push my buttons all the time right after the divorce. I was seeing a great counselor at the time and I was telling him this and he asked me “why do you still allow her to do that?” In other words, why should I care what she thinks. That’s when things changed. To this day she will still try and push my buttons or “give me her opinion”. Since it’s always on text, I just …

I’m the kind of man that needs an archenemy in my life. I don’t know why I’d want to remarry her, the 10 year tour of duty I served the first time is more than enough.

I was about your age and surprised about my divorce. Even after it was over I had no idea what was going on or what had just happened. I worked on myself, saw a great counselor, and just figured things would make sense with time. I studied stoicism, read books from Jocko, Rollo, and all the like looking for things to make sense and to improve on myself. Many years later, the one thing I realized is I was in a horrible marriage with someone I never actually loved. Once I started realizing that, a…

This isn’t a misogynistic thing, the marriage “contract” really isn’t a contract. I sign for a car loan with a bank, and then a year in I get tired of the car so tell them I’m not paying because I’m just not happy anymore. What would they do? Take the car, go after money, and ruin my credit all legally. That’s when justice is served. There is no Justice or wrongs being righted in the family court. Contracts mean nothing in these courts. And that, gentlemen, is why marriage is not a good idea.

To add on this the decree, when signed, doesn’t mean a thing to my ex. But at least I can run it through the courts and run up her lawyer bills. Doesn’t mean I’ll win, but it is the family court system, so….

The reason I was given for my ex divorcing me was my crippling depression and anxiety for the last year or so of my marriage. After it was over, and she was gone, the depression slowly started to subside. I realized it was because I was in such a toxic relationship. I don’t feel guilt because of that “in sickness and health” clause we had to say.

I try to stay as anonymous as I can right now because it’s a pretty bad case. A lot of accusations flying around and whatnot. I was kinda like this years ago during my divorce also. I then stopped and looked around and realized what was true and what wasn’t. This guy could very well realize his situation and change. Yeah, if she’s like my X, this will never end. She will invent the past and gaslight you from now on. But fortunately you will be separated from her soon. My ex made up a ton of lies during the divorce, and still make them up to this day. But the smart people never fell for them or fell for them at first, but figured out she was full of it in time. Yes I have. You ask for more and look to settle at 50/50. It’s just a big negotiation. Your attorney should be up on this. As for her not paying the bills, etc, you’re gonna get this. If they already had a decree signed and that wasn’t his property anymore then yes, he’s probably gonna see a lot of trouble. Man, I can tell you’ve been through the stuff I have too. It’s amazing when you look back and see how great we’ve made it sense, right? The divorce years ago completely destroyed me, but I had no idea who I was that got destroyed. And I’m glad that man got destroyed so I could become this type of man and, more importantly, father. I wouldn’t be the rock in my kid’s life I am now if the divorce hadn’t happened. OP, it s really bad now, and trust us, we know. You will become a better man and fathe…

70 years ago I’d say it is certainly possible. I saw many marriages that ended only when one spouse died. I also know several couples that have been married 60 years or so and they are obviously in their 80’s and 90’s now. But you are asking “these days”. I don’t like dealing in absolutes, so if a person knows enough people you might run into a couple my age that stick it out for their whole lives. But those are outliers. In general, no, a happy lifelong marriage in a post feminist society is ve…

My ex has borderline personality disorder with narcissism and I’ve been told by many professionals over the years I have to be the A hole. It’s just the way they think, when I put up healthy boundaries, I’m the A hole, when I don’t engage in childish behavior, I’m the A hole. I’ve been dealing with her for so long now I get worried when I’m not the A hole.

You need to get a good female attorney and go back and get custody, preferably 50/50 but at the age of 4 you kinda get what you can. I was where you were at and it’s interesting how differently I see things now. First of all, your ex is moving on and you must too. You need legal protection from her for you and your kid. That means having as much physical custody of her as you can. When you kid gets older you can go back and get more like I did. Second, you gotta move out. You cannot rebuild your…

I got divorced served on me when I was 30. I thought the exact same things. I never realized men hit their peak sexual value later in life. The awesome (and some certifiably insane) women I’ve dated post divorce has given me mostly great memories (and a few crazy stories). And I didn’t even date for over 2 years post divorce. I did this the first Monday after the divorce was finalized. I am lucky enough to have a good family, and named my dad. He would get my whole estate, can invest or do whatever he wants with the money/assets (he has always been very good and conservative with money and investments. Probably why he got to retire early). He will give a monthly amount to the ex, at my request, until they’re 18. Then they get the whole thing at 25.

Ahhh, never get tired of the gaslighting. It used to really get under my skin but now I find it quite humorous. For this situation if he were to drag her back to court in my state it would be a minimum 6 months before he sees a judge. I see that as why where they still married to them for so long, especially Bezos’ wife. She was on the ground floor with Amazon, even though I doubt she had anything to do with it being what it is today. She could have been a billionaire years ago with a divorce. I agree with a lot of these comments, however I would wait until AFTER the divorce papers have been signed. You want her to be as happy as can be during this divorce process. Then the minute the judge signs off, I’d out her. I usually in most cases don’t believe it’s a good thing to do, but in your case, it’s probably best. But I’d suggest post divorce.

I have found, in my experience, that my ex can not handle her finances at all. She has always made a fine living and I have struggled with building a business in the past. This is normal because the family court system does not have to answer to the US constitution. If you murder someone in cold blood you have certain rights afforded to you by that document. The family courts are a dog and pony show and there’s nothing any one can do about it except for one thing, don’t get married again. I’m not an MRA because it is not ever going to…

It went from I physically abused her, to mental and emotional abuse. A decade later and she’s been sexually assaulted by a date (she claims) among other things. But not my problem anymore. I never go into her house and she is not allowed in mine. When we have to meet, it’s in a public area with cameras and I usually wear a body cam and don’t get out of my truck unless I have to. Weird thing is all the women I’ve dated since have never claimed abuse. Some relationships have ended badly because I …

Before any of this happens I’m talking with my attorney (yes I have one on retainer for my crazy baby momma) and getting the low down of what’s up. Prenup and postnup? Etc. I’ll be covering all my bases. I’m not in a hurry, we are done having children and no need to hurry things.

You think exactly like me. My religion is very important to me and it frowns on cohabitation before marriage and the such. But if we have a ceremony where I’m considered married in my religion yet not bringing the government in to it I have zero problems with that. I still haven’t found the verse in the Bible where it says marriage has to be certified by the United States. What you said is exactly what I think. I’m in the same boat. I really have a problem with trust and I definitely have seen too much over the years to get married again and put myself in that position. Yet I’m in a relationship with a wonderful woman. I love her, I’ve put her through tons of sh*t test over our relationship, and she’s nothing like my ex or the other women I’ve dated. She more emotionally mature than I am! I am in a monogamous, LTR with her, and yet she brings up marriage and that is one thing I just can’t do. If I had …

The struggle is real! I decided to finally buy a bed I picked out. I decided for the wood headboard surrounded by metal. I didn’t have to ask permission, so that was a tough pill to swallow. I also figure I needed a new car a few weeks later. I just went one Saturday afternoon by myself and worked a price, and drove home in it. I didn’t have anyone to give me permission to do this. But I guess I’ll get used to it with time.

Yeah, I was gonna say this. You might have bought most of the stuff in that house, but at least half of it is hers now. But they’re just belongings that can be rebought. Just get out of the situation ASAP and don’t ever cohabitate with a woman. I date, but she’s gonna leave after one night.

Well put. I envy men who went their own way in their youth and don’t have an ex wife to deal with. I also understand that society will put a “value” on me seeing I have a child with said woman. It’s amazing the things I’ve seen since my divorce. My ex has become a total slut, and I have seen a correlation between how much money I make and how much more attractive I am to women. I kinda screwed around for a few years, but realized that I am my most productive and happy when I’m monk. Married men do not live longer. I used to be married, and I was dead. Only when she left have I really been alive. I even admire flowers and other things I didn’t notice when I was married to a soul sucking woman. I’d rather die having lived 80 great years than 90 bad ones.

I’m religious and I know what he is talking about. Can’t recall the exact part of the Bible it’s in, but it says something like “you shall not spill your seed on the ground” or something. I’m not into that, but I also believe we all sin, Didn’t mean to turn this into religion, but if he’s against it then we gotta respect that. As for me, if I lived like that, I might my rage might overcome me and I’ll end up in prison having a different kind of unwanted sex.

Also, be straightforward with her about you intentions. No joke, women find it much more attractive for some reason, like they can be the one that can “change me”. But if you tell them you’re not looking for a relationship, it’s surprising how that ends up.

I have found the early stages of having the red pill you do get rage against women. But after a while, it gets tiring. I understand, but you gotta move forward, and it looks you’ve done this. Welcome.

Yes, very good point. Couldn’t agree more. But what are we to do about it? Whine and complain about it, or go out and become successful men in our society. It’s kinda like getting shot in the arm and instead of tending to the wound and healing it, we are searching for what shot us, who did it, and what type of gun was it. All the while bleeding out.

This is so true. For women, children are very lucrative financially. And by the time they’re about 1 1/2 years old they can pretty much take care of themselves. Believe me or not, I’ve seen these hoes and their kids learn at a very young age they better learn how to make a sandwich or they will starve. This is why I’ve lost all faith in humanity.

I’m hated by most because I’m an admitted mysogonist. I’m very politically incorrect and it scares me sometimes how much I don’t care that 90% of the general population hate me. I’m a man, there are things I can do that women cannot. I did not make the rules, I just live them. I’m not gender fluid, and that stuff is bs anyway. Transgenderism is a mental health problem, and feminism will cause the downfall of our society. Yet when the $hit hits the fan, who do these snowflakes look to? When we go…

I was married most of my twenties. Been single most my thirties (with the exception of the occasional side piece). I’ve been happier, more productive, made a lot more money, and become a better person since the divorce. My thirties have been so much better than my twenties hands down! So congrats and settle in and really enjoy the next ten years. You’re gonna love it. Just be careful of the crazy strange.

Good point. Should Franken had stepped down? He did. I think he did under his own party’s pressure so they could use this to attack a republican. He was expendable, he knew it, they knew it. He fell on his own sword for his liberal cause. He didn’t fight it, so nobody can fight for him if he isn’t fighting for himself.

When I was younger and blue pilled, I was a nice, romantic guy. I had a difficult time getting into women’s pants. Now that I’m older and red pilled, I am an asshole. I just don’t care about women. And now they text me want to come over to my house for a booty call. When I genuinely stopped being a slave to the tail, that’s when they started getting interested in me. It could also be that I do have a bit more money now than when I was younger. But I’m in no way rich.

Just because you’re married to a soldier doesn’t mean you deserve the respect a soldier does. I’ve seen buds of mine go to the sandbox and come back to see their lives ruined. If they got shot in the back by one of their fellow soldiers, that soldier would be court martialed. Their (ex) wives did it legally back home with protection of our family court systems.

That’s the feeling I have gotten. You mistake where you live (never happened to me, even when I was drunk), a “random” guy opens the door with no weapon (who breaks into a house then opens the front door when you can’t open it?), shots get fired and he is dead. And it’s because of fatigue because she worked a 15 hour shift or something? I’ve had to work straight for three days once, and I still knew where I lived and when to not pop off a shot. This was first degree murder of a jilted lover.

She makes you wear a condom because you’re the one she loves. Don’t worry about her banging that guy raw, she probably banged at least ten more you don’t know about (raw). So when she makes you wear a condom, she loves you so much she doesn’t want you to catch all the STDs she has.
