It means not going the way society wants you to. It’s living your life on your terms, whatever that may be. If you like dating women, date women. If you prefer monk mode, do monk mode. As long as you are aware of the legal ramifications of marriage and cohabitation, do what you do, as long as it’s legal.

It means being aware of the negatives and liabilities you face in relationships when you have goals to achieve or dreams.

Relationships kill that, because of focusing on your dreams, now you're into worshipping pussy.

The only "rules" are don't marry and don't cohabitate, MGTOW can be summed up as living life in a way that benefits you instead of by default devoting time, mental energy and resources towards women. You could get a girlfriend and still be MGTOW, women should be a compliment to your life and not the central focus of it, ultimately you want to make it so that your sense of self worth and happiness comes from within and not from having a woman to "complete you", you're already complete.

It means that you choose to live your life free of societal expectations. Note that someone who defies societal expectations simply because they exist is every bit as constrained as someone who follows them, just because they exist. Right now, for the straight male in the west, you are supposed to nurture a career so you can spend a great deal of money first attracting a wife then raising a family. MGTOW consider themselves free to reject any part of this blueprint.

Some MGTOW continue to nurture a career. However, instead of using the wealth to impress someone else, the MGTOW may use it to purchase what they want, or save it for an early retirement. Some MGTOW may continue to court women, but refuse to establish a long-lasting relationship.

However, I think that there are two fundamental understandings that MGTOW share: First, that you only have one life to live and dedicating it to someone/something that doesn't share in your commitment means that you are wasting a great deal of your life. Second, that laws and cultural beliefs have elevated women into an entitled class, who's opinions hold more weight that reality. Because of that, interactions with women must be handled with extreme caution.

The fact you can live free, no need to work your ass off to support an family or worse, pay for your divorced wife's life. Decorate your home how you want it, choose your own friends. Find an job your happy with even pay ain't that fantastic. Buy the car or bike you love. I had an couple relations and sure it had its good times, but an free man is just golden.

You ever notice how marriage & divorce seems to benefit women a lot more than men? Its sort of...strange; because I know the genders are equal before the law, so how did that come to be? Why isn't anything being done about it? Why is it taboo to even talk about it?

For the most part MGTOW means valuing yourself. The cultures most of us are living in don't value us. This shows in what medical, psychological, financial and educational help is available to us. Technically there is a lot but when push comes to shove and you ask for help it all evaporates.

A large part of becoming red pilled is the realization that the community you are a part of is very likely to just drop if you need their support. A painful truth that, I think, a lot of us have found out is that this lack of support has been present all of our lives. And we have been gas lit for so long by everyone we know into thinking we were well supported and cared for.

This is why the matrix analogy works so well. Taking the red pill means being pulled out of a world where everybody tries real hard to support each other and plunged into a world filled with bio-mechanical beasties looking to suck you dry. Where you have to be really careful about who your friends are.

MGTOW therefore emphasizes personal sovereignty and agency.

In today's context this means that long term relationships are ill advised. You give up a lot of sovereignty and agency and should the relationship end, you are fresh out of luck. You will lose both.

So instead MGTOW is redefining the masculinity as to be independent of relationship status. A "real man" will no longer be defined as who he protects and serves but in what he is capable of and in how well he lives his life. Stoicism is a popular philosophy among many mgtow as it aligns very well with MGTOW values.

Being healthy in body and mind is also very important. There is no shortage in encouragement for working out and eating well. However getting your mental health sorted is a lot trickier. And men's mental health is still a taboo subject, even for mgtow.

The latest guidelines by the APA have been heavily commented on in the 'man-o-sphere'. You should know large organizations are very slow to change and only do so if almost all of it's foot-soldiers have already so on their own. the Psychology Industry is rife with bad therapists. You need to be a lot more careful in finding a therapist than finding friends.

Men have been trained by society to devalue themselves for ages. Which is a lot like narcissistic abuse when it is done by one individual in a short period of time. It's a long term conditioning that slowly turns you from a person into a submissive and boundary-less tool. Boundary work, Emotional literacy and Family of Origin Issues are things all men could get some help with.

I've recommended Richard Grannon to a few for some of this. The community could improve on getting the word out on useful mental health information. IMHO.

Lastly, your sovereignty relies on your agency. You want to be able to disengage and move on with your life. Your ability to say 'No'.

In order to say 'no' you need other options to what you are doing right now. This is why getting some marketable skills is important. And you should always get more. Having a sound financial footing and the knowledge that you are easily employable puts you in a good position to say 'No' when you want to.

The tl;dr of MGTOW is: I make sure I get to do what I want and never be tied down to someone else's will.

Limiting your engagement with women to ensure the law cannot get involved. For now that's avoiding marriage and avoiding cohabitation.

I'm sure it will get a lot worse, and there is anecdotal evidence to suggest it's best to avoid any sexual/romantic interactions at all because of false rape accusations and the presumption of guilt. But my observed reality suggests it's not gone that far ... yet.

It's a big spectrum. For me? No marriage, kids, or cohabitation. I still date and hookup and have relationships. But I focus on ME, building my retirement, putting that overtime in, being frugal, having total control of how my bachelor pad is setup, having control over whatever I want to do everyday, spending money how I see fit, things like that. That's as far as I want to take it. But some guys go extreme and go monk mode and swear completely off any women. I can't do that myself.
