In the first days and weeks of our separation, I felt the same way. There were moments when I felt great, but there were also times when I was deeply down. It’s encouraging to hear that you’re making progress. It inspires me to remember that, no matter how difficult it is, life goes on.

It’s good to hear that you moved on already and that this group helps you on your journey. That’s why I also wanted to ask people here about their experiences so I would know what’s the worse that could happen and prepare myself for that. It’s also encouraging to hear success stories from people who made it.

I guess you’re right. You know when you know. I guess I just need to face my fears next year when I do it.

It’s hard to heal when things are unresolved, but you’ll get there. This will pass—for all of us going through this.

24 years is indeed a long time. It’s definitely tough. 😞

I am hoping for your full recovery. It’s great that you got the support you need. I don’t have much friends and I’m away from my family. Next year is gonna be tough for me for sure when I start the process officially.

Sorry to hear about it. I guess in my opinion, perhaps, healing starts when it’s finalized as you can then move forward. Hang in there buddy. I am yet to start mine, next year I will.

True that. We have a 15 year old daughter. Ex’s never been to Canada. I’ll be the one to pay the SS and CS for sure. They live in the Philippines where cost of living is very low. I don’t think the judge would consider that if went to court. They’d just apply whatever the amounts are and that’s it. As a payor, I would work my ass out just to survive in Ontario while them living comfortably. I don’t have problem with CS but the SS sucks.

Thanks man. It depends how much money the ex wants to squeeze from you I guess.

Yeah. I mean, I understand the needs of the children but at least leave the man a reasonable amount for his needs too.

I hate to be the bearer of bad news but based on what I found out on Facebook, if you started cohabitation even before marriage, then the two will be summed up. Not sure about the assets and your son though.

Oh I see. In my case we cohabit in 5 years out of our 16 years of marriage because we don’t have divorce in the Philippines. So we separated after 5 years of togetherness but we live apart while technically still married.

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
