Amen brother. Also, if you’re going to get remarried at least get a prenup.

I used battery powered cameras. Caught her red handed and destroyed her case.

Ya I left the house. Best decision ever. Got 50/50, money, and half the house.

Dude this is so true. Mine said I needed to do everything she said if I wanted the marriage to work. Well guess who’s divorced now? ME muhahahaha

Yup. So smart.

Ya. Mine was complaining about my behavior at the wedding 15 years ago. Lol. Too smart for their own good. Her favorite response to everything is “I know”. I asked her why she always said that. She said because “I have a PhD”. For fucks sake! You know about…EVERYTHING? I give up. Lol. She didn’t know she had to pay me half of what she has. Moron

Focus on the day after your divorce. Imagine the freedom you’ll have. The day my divorce finished I felt a huge huge weight off my chest. I’m sleeping now through the night. Happier.

My life is really great now. I met a woman who has supported me and my kids. For once someone puts money where their mouth is and provides equal support. If you can get the divorce done in mediation consider yourself lucky (50/50 kids especially). My process was hell. In the end SHE paid me over half mil; however, we blew a college fund on lawyers and almost went to trial. Sad shit.

Asset/alimony decisions are final unless there’s fraud. But even then my understanding is that it’s difficult. Custody and child support remain under the jurisdiction of the court and can be modified if there’s a significant chang of circumstance.

Urgh. If you’re at the brink of a decision hopefully you’ve done enough already. I made a long post about this (look it up in my profile). A lot goes into custody decisions. A lot of variables from your stbxw, the lawyers, the law, court people (GALs etc), and finally the judge.
/r/Divorce_Men29/04/23 11:03 AM

Don’t get involved. It won’t help any. And you’ll end up a bad guy to one of the two if not both.

Mine said she supports the children having a relationship with me and that the parenting time to achieve this is EVERY OTHER WEEKEND.

This is a good example of the black and white thinking that perpetuates the bias against fathers. Target of blame; splitting.

It’s up to her to prove your expenditure were wasteful dispensation. Just let her subpoena your stuff. You can’t recall it has been so long ago. Go ahead and call the vendor. Don’t freak out.

My ex makes $350,000 a year, and I paid the $6,000 retainer for the evaluator. Thank goodness you deposed the evaluator. They do write down everything. My report wasn’t great but he recommended what I wanted.

They can be wonderful if you get a good one. I’m told in my area they’re based on a list. I did pick the evaluator and thank goodness he saw through all of it. His report was 39 pages. My attorney said that the gal knew she was irrelevant after the evaluator was appointed.

Good points. I needed statements back to 2008 so I was out of luck. I’d still recommend moving out if there’s any risk of a DV trap. Your point is well made on the costs.

The financial part of my divorce took four days. The parenting plan took an afternoon. Prior to this she said all she cared about was the kids. Right.

Biotech exec
/r/Divorce_Men24/04/23 01:30 AM
2

Yup. She sure was. In the first meeting her mouth was moving but it was the stbxw’s words so I knew it was going to be hard. The custody evaluator trumps GAL bc the GAL isn’t a mental health professional. In the end she had to follow the evaluator’s recommendation. For the first time in a year and a half I found my mind fully clear and without worry. Gonna be the best dad I can be for my littles!

No alimony since my income was too high. We were married 15 years. She would have owed me over $130k in child support for the kids (total ‘til 18) if I wasn’t generous and waived it to get to resolution.
/r/Divorce_Men23/04/23 02:46 PM

Nope. He got charged with disorderly conduct, and I motioned for a protective order but wasn’t successful. In Ohio I need two punches not one to qualify (or the one has to be felony assault-level)

A psych evaluation is part of a forensic assessment done by a phd psychologist. It’s used to determine fitness for parenting and is super invasive (so is GAL). It’s not something you want to casually employ.

I mean you can always say I’m done negotiating. But unless you’re pro se a trial will cost more than four digits and then there’s no certainty the judge will favor you.

First mention of divorce was 2019. Then covid hit. I filed in late 2021. She’s a very vindictive and controlling person. I moved out in 1/2022 and forced a 50/50 parenting time. She refused to negotiate four months in. I motioned for a GAL. She motioned for a TRO and court made me give up my firearms etc. At the hearing the magistrate said literally “counsel please ask your clients to leave the room” and then proceeded to rip her side a new one saying there’s no violence here. It’s all about mon…

The ex spent at least $130,000. I spent at least $75,000. There’s still fees and QDROs left so who knows. We went from 1:30 to after 10 pm yesterday alone. It’s RIDICULOUS.

In addition to what everyone else says, try try try to keep it out of the court. Get the kids squared away if they’re still minors. Many times the wife turns into a pure monster. You may not recognize the ex in a month or two.

Yikes. The paid background searches are a bit much. I get the Google search - don’t want to be dating a psycho or a conman. But seeing your house value is out of line. And then reading the docket…thank goodness my jurisdiction isn’t advanced enough to have online access for average joe. As others have said…drop her. She isn’t worth it even if she’s gorgeous and the sex is amazing. It’s a nightmare already and you’ve been warned by her action. Run Forrest Run!

Mine has been dragging it out for 1.5 years. Delay on financial disclosure; we had to subpoena. Stonewall 8 hours of mediation. She claims I’m under employed making six figures; HER vocational expert says I’m just in line. Usually delay means they’re hoping for something. I used the delay to cement week on week off 50/50 custody. After all, it has been over a year of the current arrangement. Sucker.

I elected to file married but separate. The stbx makes a lot more than I do, and I didn’t want the headache of working out taxes owed etc. It’s less efficient than filing jointly but I prefer it this way. Refunds can be claimed as joint property
/r/Divorce_Men11/04/23 02:26 PM

Yup. Mediation was a huge waste of time
/r/Divorce_Men11/04/23 02:19 PM

I feel you. I stopped paying the expenses for the house. I moved to the in-law suite and locked it. She hired a locksmith and changed the lock to lock me out. I broke the door down. She filed for protection. The judge told her she needed to resolve this through negotiation bc there’s no violence as far as he could see. Women are so evil.
/r/Divorce_Men10/04/23 10:01 AM

Yes! This. She’s filed motion after motion for attorney fees. I almost went bankrupt two years ago due to covid so I have no money only credit card debt lol. She has all the money.

I’ve thought about this. It’s not out of the realm of possibility but how can one ever prove it? Her lawyer is part of a two man operation. For that amount and such short time I’d expect the founding partner of a firm.
/r/Divorce_Men08/04/23 11:11 AM

What country are you in? I’ve never heard of esp or m-esp. Trials do happen. There are idiots out there stupid enough to do it. I have one in two weeks. The stbx hasn’t once outlined wtf it is she wants but has lawyered and expert witnessed up.
/r/Divorce_Men08/04/23 11:09 AM

Mine just sat there and talked to the GAL. The stbxw’s attorney just complained about me. The lawyers compared notes about retirement accounts. I shit you not. It was such a waste of time and money. Three hours.

/r/Divorce_Men08/04/23 11:04 AM

That’s a great question. Of course she’s asking for attorney’s fees. It seems she’s hiring forensic accountants two months before a trial to look for the millions of dollars that I don’t have.

I certainly hope it doesn’t go to trial but everything seems to be pointing that way. OH is unfortunately one of those states that still relies on custodial parent designations and standard 70/30 splits

Urgh
/r/Divorce_Men07/04/23 12:29 PM

Agreed. Time with the kids is what matters. Stbx is boxed in on 50/50 bc of her behavior so her goal is to get as much “extra” that’s not 50/50 for her fragile ego.
/r/Divorce_Men07/04/23 12:10 PM

I don’t have anything against 5-5-2-2. It was my proposal. What I’m trying to say is: how does one parent having medical decision power square with a joint/shared parenting plan? To me it doesn’t. The point of joint custody is both parents making decisions. On the holidays I’ve been told by lawyers and the GAL that no judge will give one parent (for example) every Xmas eve. We tried mediation. For 8 hours she complained about me and tried to get every holiday. Never even got to the school year o…

This is so true. Mine alleged everything under the sun. Alcoholic, mentally ill, and even sex abuser. All lies. Took a forensic evaluation to show everyone she’s just out to crush me personally.
/r/Divorce_Men06/04/23 10:56 AM

Thank you for your insight. I know the other parent intends to fight this to the very end even though the results didn’t go her way. Fingers crossed.

/r/Divorce_Men04/04/23 06:29 PM

Lol you said it! Here’s my experience: depending on how high conflict it is (and which attack dog attorney she gets) they’ll subpoena the last three years of everything. If you redact they’ll for sure subpoena. If you leave at is there’s a good chance they’ll call up the biz and ask for details. The best way forward is to have no shame. “Ya, I was there and did that BFD.” Hopefully she’s no saint either. Good luck.

Filing for divorce doesn’t take long if you know what you want. Assuming it’s a no fault state you can get the stuff done in three days.

I don’t think you can get out of this. It’s either cry now or cry later. You should file first to be a step ahead

My attorney told me that doing a legal separation is a waste of money bc it’s the same steps (and thus 2x cost) as a divorce except there isn’t a dissolution of marriage.

Subpoena her employer. That’s how I found out she was making $270k.
/r/Divorce_Men01/04/23 01:13 AM

This is 110% true. My stbx insists that I do a vocational assessment even tho I make six figures…it’s just lower than her six figures. Can’t make this stuff up

Anyone can try for a TRO at any time. My stbx dropped six TROs on me and started the divorce war. Unwise imho unless there’s a real reason to do it. In the end (April trial) she looks like the aggressor party.

Ya look at the Cuyahoga County Court’s sample parenting plan online. Sadly it’s local rules/county by county that governs this

Assets and liabilities are split depending on the state, communal vs equitable division. You’ll do a QRDO (pronounce quadro) to actually split it. Funds go into an IRA or other 401k that you each have separately

I mean anything is worth a try if you want to try and salvage it. I went to marriage counseling and she complained about me for three sessions. I gave up. Now in the divorce she complains about me to her lawyers and the court. It’s all the same. Good luck
/r/Divorce_Men17/03/23 01:46 AM

Sounds like we know the same person. Subpoena her records. It’ll cost money but that’s the only way

Ghosts of marriage past are everywhere. It’s ok to sit in the uncomfortableness. One day the pain will dull as all pain does over time. In the meantime go get a fun hobby or go on a nice trip. Change of scenery can boost morale.
/r/Divorce_Men16/03/23 07:03 PM

I think they’re trying to say that the interest accrued during marriage (of your premarital asset) should be split as well?
/r/Divorce_Men16/03/23 07:02 PM

Mine still hasn’t so we subpoenaed. Don’t get your hopes up I guess.
/r/Divorce_Men16/03/23 02:05 PM

Have you guys or she floated any draft settlements? If not it could be kinda unproductive. I just had mine two weeks ago and it was the lawyers comparing notes and agreeing on assets. Didn’t get to custody, support, anything else. Of course I’m in a high conflict sitch with gal and an evaluator involved. Good luck. Prepare to be bored. Mine was 3 hours long and the attorneys said that was short.

/r/Divorce_Men15/03/23 01:09 AM

Mine did the same. She cherry picked the dates and said I was only around 32% of the time so I should only get 32% of custody. It’s like a stock broker who says “look at my amazing returns” if you only consider the month of May. Ya, I had to provide three year’s worth of travel schedules to refute her bs. Next time you see the log laying around spill coffee on it and throw it away.

Ouuuuch! Im sorry to hear that man. I know the trial is going to be brutal. The woman just won’t settle. I’ve won the delay blame game. We’ve got every single court service involved from GAL on up

/r/Divorce_Men11/03/23 02:21 AM

Nope. Trial is 4/24. She blew up mediation (4 sessions, 8+ hours), she hasn’t updated her financials yet (please explain $50k missing), and she’s still complaining about small parenting annoyances. It’s so ridiculous you can’t make this stuff up.
/r/Divorce_Men10/03/23 02:06 PM

A trial would probably be pretty quick given no children, low assets, short marriage. She’ll pay more for an attorney than wrestle out of you.

Mine insisted on it and after she got an order requiring written permission….she has now stopped asking for it. I ran up her bill $10,000 negotiating two trips. What a pain.

Lol most guys are there. He’s over 50 you said? Yes, ask him for a date at your place and tell him to bring a toothbrush. Either he’ll go for it or come up with an excuse. Then you’ll know for sure.

Just tell him ahead of time that you want to sleep with him. Gives him time to mentally get ready and anything else just in case.

Mine wanted to out of her need to control. I never did. We go to trial next month

Or give him enuf time to take the blue pill

As in me giving her repeated offers until it satisfies whatever she has in mind for a settlement? Sounds awfully similar to how she was in the marriage - never expressing a preference but for sure letting u know she disapproves of whatever it is I did. The court requires briefs to be filed before trial so maybe I’ll finally know what it is she wants then. I suspect she wants everything from the kids to 100% or my money but that’s not how divorce works….

Thank you. I’ve got my bottom lines mapped out. She has historically dragged her heels on providing financial documents. Depositions are coming soon as are other discovery efforts. I hope I finally get to hear wtf it is that she wants.

Yes many many times

Agreed. The problem is she won’t tell me what she wants. Does she want the house? Does she want my 401k? Etc

The hatred is real. Some want to punish and a pound of flesh. I wish they’d just be upfront and tell you how much they want and be done with it

When she goes full bore hostile and turns the divorce into high conflict you’ll be over her real quick.

Exactly. Don’t ignore these things. Happened to me a couple times when someone who seems nice reacts really strongly to something not major. Move on. It won’t get bettwe

Also just because she changed the locks doesn’t mean he can’t change them back. It’s his (and her) house. Until there’s a decision they both own it so ya move back. Or maybe stop paying the bills.

Um that’s the first thing that happens. Because you know, it’s all your fault. Don’t waste your time brother

Omg I wish my ex would get a boyfriend already!

Ya I don’t understand this mindset of dragging stuff out. My stbx wanted me to have less custody then ended up getting a 50/50 issued on her by the court. She still wants to drag it out…. Trial is late April. Fml.

I hear you. Again it depends on how much. There’s a baseline in most states. No one in family court gets in trouble for perjury.

It doesn’t mean anything unless the threshold amount triggers something.

This is exactly the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth. Mine won’t call it quits. She’s fighting to the bitter end. The GAL already went against her in the interim plan, she caught herself a psych/custody evaluation, and now her dad punched me at child transition (on video too no less). And yet she wants to go to trial. Lol if it wasn’t so much fail.

I hear you brother. I usually respond to what I want to respond to and ignore the rest. If it’s important enough create a new message with specific subject. Focus on issues related to the kids. Never ever read OFW at night before bed. Remember whatever you write will be used against you in court.

How is she able to schedule temp hearings? My jurisdiction has a backlog and I wish they’d schedule a hearing on my motions!

I had the pumpkin too

Mine pushed boundaries every single time it’s my parenting turn. Can I see them Saturday? Can I have four hours here? Two hours there?

Boundaries brother. Boundaries.

Oh this is me 100%. She still wants me to help her with home repairs

Ohio is struggling to pass a presumed 50/50 amendment to custody laws. Guess who’s opposing it? The family law judges association and the domestic violence groups. I get their argument; however, if states as diverse as CA and KY can do it…why not here?

Thank you bro. I’m going through very tough times too. Keep telling myself this too will end. Why do people hate so much?

Stop paying for the house you don’t live in

No such thing as fair in this bs. The sooner you accept that the happier you’ll be. I’m sorry.

Omg the amount she’s wasted is insane. I’ve got a pretrial in a week and we’re pushing for a date!

Brother, I’m in your EXACT situation. I was in and out of relationships because she wouldn’t let me go. Been in the nightmare since 2017. She’s on her FOURTH attorney and I’m resigned it will just go to trial.
