I bet most people have been cheated on by more than one partner, just a matter of if it was ever found out.

Where’s the lower middle class dads? I keep seeing people losing half mil in this and that and paying thousands in child support. Meaning theu just had to downgrade to my current lifestyle probably. Im looking at $1000/mo child support losing most my cash value. Ill be left with about $2600/mo to live on and rent nowadays on anything big enough is 1400-2000/mo..

I have a choice… move atleast 30min away or be homeless.. cant pay child support and the prices in this town idk what to do to get 50/50. I hate to force the sale of the house. If i took a job with a more lenient schedule id be homeless in any town.

In Illinois they would calculate her imputed income not sure where you are at.

What if you dont have a mom and any job with a schedule that works wont pay enough to survive… or you simply cant afford to stay in the same school district now that housing is inflated.

My oldest daughter blew up telling me how blind i was to how i was being treated and all these things my stbxw would say to them when I’m not around. It’s amazing how much my kids have observed and i feel bad for going this long.

I am leaving, will be moving out in the next month or so. She is resisting it… she has been love bombing, or “hysterical bonding” and i know its all bullshit though i seen her recent texting with her backup plan lol.

She don’t want to change the girls school, mostly because her older daughter is doing well there, and its very rural and hard to find another rental. Also very expensive for a rural area when you do find something. I want to move by my sister to a bit more urban town. I also have two daughters from a past relationship that i have all summer, winter, and spring breaks. Very complicated situation in ways.

I cant afford the home if i buy her out, and pay child support, i don’t want the house anymore. If we sell i wont get much after splitting proceeds and closing costs. We do have kids, and the lawyers i consulted said the judges here will not grant 50/50 with my work schedule vs hers… i cant change employers because I’m paid well in a field that typically pays shit. I don’t have any other schooling or resume items to change fields yet.. also she will not fight with me if she can rent the house ti…

Marriage is about money it’s a business thats all it is.. it’s a scheme. Piece of paper getting the government involved in your life. I had this feeling before i got married and getting married and now divorced just confirms it.

Yeah to buy her out would’ve raised my mortgage substantially since we gained alot of equity… but then selling it is about to kill a bunch of the profit with prep and closing costs, i may have to give her my share of the proceeds as well for alimony cause she wont get a job…

Does he have family support? Are the kids an age that they can be home alone? Can he afford to miss a day of work while paying child support? Women usually get help more than men in these situations, women have closer friendships and receive more compassion for being a single parent. Still no excuse cause i will jump on having my kids more. They would end up at my exes sisters house though anyway cause well cant miss a single day of work with my cs deductions and i don’t have free help like she …

Illinois its a percentage of obligation based on parenting time, and then there is some income disparity balancing but its pretty minor. Like if i can get 50/50 making 80k and she makes 40k i might pay like 200/mo. But if im makin like 180k and shes makin like 30k it might be a decent bit.
/r/Divorce_Men21/05/25 01:08 PM

Yeah i know back pay will put you over the 40% limit in Illinois.
/r/Divorce_Men21/05/25 01:05 PM

And where in the hell can they do 60% most states cap out at 40 maybe 50…

Illinois and florida child support will vary based on % of custody time. Illinois doesn’t start to reduce till you hit 146 overnights then child support becomes greatly reduced.

Im sure its negotiable, but generally would be the $75k

Anyway, she could indulge by working part time, get a masters degree, quit a job that was frustrating her, etc. while I had to keep my physically demanding job at all costs to support it all. The hypocrisy of her being a modern feminist while I had to be in this conservative role was plain in the open but since we had kids I did what I could to maintain the marriage. On my admittance I had terrible boundaries and got walked all over. No matter what I did I was resented not respected. This paragr…

Our relationship was dead, dead bedroom for a while she made a few lame attempts to shut me up. I finally am leaving thought it would be easy now shes full blown manipulative guilt trippin hysterical bonding and “trying” but i checked out… she gets in my head and pants though and she isn’t working so i cant leave till shes working again or ill be homeless.

My mortgage and home equity loan are 1800/mo combined right now. Between me and her ex/father of her older daughter she will be getting around 1200-1300/mo in child support.
/r/Divorce_Men12/03/25 12:48 PM

I have thought about maybe a strict lease agreement (house and mortgage solely in my name/ purchased after marriage so still marital property…) she could pay me 1700/mo hell maybe 1500/mo and have to cover any maintenance for one year to give her time to be able to qualify to buy it. I would sell it to her for whats owed plus less than half the equity since i would be saving on realtor fees. It seems like a sweet deal for her and works for me. I do have some super cheap to live for a year so i c…

/r/Divorce_Men09/03/25 05:59 PM

This is why i struggle with people pushing for “working through the hard times” then the hard times are the whole marriage… marriage is dated
/r/Divorce_Men09/03/25 03:54 AM

Idk how texas is but in Illinois you are pooling all home equity, savings, and retirement, then splitting it all 50/50. Maintenance has a calculation based on length of marriage. Yes, men typically get the shit end of the stick here.

I dont make the kind of money where she could live off my child support even maxed out she will be working regardless.
/r/Divorce_Men06/03/25 06:56 PM
2

I dont do the kind of work where employers are flexible, my savings and 401k especially my savings are not much. Most my worth is in the equity in my house. I dont want the house really i just want enough money in my pocket to get going and not have a huge blowout battle.
/r/Divorce_Men06/03/25 06:55 PM
3

My problem with that is she is financially illiterate and i cant count on her to pay the mortgage and it will fuck me on debt to income ratio when i go to get a house myself. Plus i would need some of that equity to put down somewhere else as well..

Income disparity is a factor but it has to be a good amount of income ive used the calculator. Sucks fathers have to be homeless when they get divorced…

Yeah i believe those things should be split i lnow with a large income disparity there will still be child support but 100k to 80k isnt a huge one.

Yeah she gets incredibly manipulative, the guilt trips are extreme. Gaslighting like crazy… its horrible no matter what i do.
/r/Divorce_Men06/02/25 05:39 PM

She’s makin it seem like im heartless and dont have good enough reasons and why is it not worth working out. My 10 year old daughter looked me in the face after a fight me and the wife had (wife said some uncalled for things in front of the kids) and said “are you gonna accept that dad?”
/r/Divorce_Men06/02/25 04:30 PM

I dont think thats the case she’s begging to work it out we have split before and she chased me.. she enjoys the life she has with me just not necessarily me i think.

Thanks im starting the process. She knows i want a divorce now.. she fought with me in front of the kids and my 10 year old asked me if i was really gonna be ok with her after that.. i cant get that outta my head now.

If i can keep my house i will because it is the only way i can supplement my side income. I need a minimum of half an acre and a garage or two… i could afford the house i think actually. I know she cant.

It’s temporary here and we both work and have alot of debt, i know ill end up either having to refinance to a payment i cant afford or end up homeless without alot of money.

At one point that relationship you had was amazing or you wouldn’t have married and now you question the legitimacy and longevity of any relationship that may come. I fear this too and may be why i haven’t left yet…

I have 2 kids before her and she has 1 before me. No booze for me i had a major alcohol problem in my early 20s that got me a felony.. joining a gym, feeling and looking good can only either maybe help things at home or make me a whole lot more appealing if i end up single. Ill check out those reads
