As someone who's been working in a white collar corporate environment my whole career and never had any issues whatsoever I can only say you're clearly doing something wrong. Don't give anyone the opportunity to have that kind of leverage over you. For example I sometimes go out to grab lunch with male colleagues but NEVER with just a single female colleague because they can say you did X, Y or Z and there's no way to prove you didn't. This is exactly right and let me just emphasize that college is the perfect opportunity to find the change you are looking for. But you have to make it happen. Things get significantly harder once you graduate and get a real job... in terms of naturally expanding social circles. Many people (myself included) would kill to be able to go back to the exact situation you're in right now with RP knowledge.
