For both of you it’s harder. I’m going thru a separation after being together for 18 years and I’m happy I didn’t marry her as the split is going to be much easier then if we were married.

First off no one is yours, you cannot claim anyone to be yours. Everyone is their own person that you either mutually agree to be together with trust, love and loyalty but no one is ever owned by anyone. Second it is not easier to keep just because you are married. Things can end, people can cheat, love can fade. You never really know how things will go.
