I think you should add the name of the person so that we can all verify/examine what is said.

Many people think about it as men not getting laid. It’s so much more than that. I think best we can do is start male spaces. Have clubs, activities and groups if you can. Also just care for your friends. Reach out to them, make them feel seen, make them feel safe with you.

I think the best way to answer your question is by asking a question. Is there genuinely a time where the “patriarchy” is brought up by feminist that doesn’t just pretty much boil down to blaming men not only for their issues, but also for our issues? Like is there an argument significantly made with the concept of the patriarchy that doesn’t boil down to “who set that system up?” I think you can understand why people don’t like the idea here.

In the most academic, objectively ideological sense perhaps she is not wrong. But people are not chatgpt, nor do most of them understand information like robots (or PHD academics) The fact is practically anything that is blamed on the “patriarchy” is blamed on men. Maybe in a strictly academic sense, it isn’t, but how people see it they associate the patriarchy with system set by men of male domination. This can be seen on the internet with videos like the jubilee interview where they went “up w…

I feel like I will get downvoted, but I hope we can respectfully disagree. I believe that in many cases, specially in Asian cultures, women are still expected to do an unfair amount of household labour while also working. The reason is I see this firsthand with my family. However, where I differ with feminist is I choose not to blame the men or patriarchy for it. Rape and sexual assault is a huge issue. To be clear, I will not compare male and female victims. The claim that the US doesn’t have federal law against rape is not accurate. The United States has federal laws against rape, although it has to be noted this only apply to service members. I see. I think the thing about the fake story is that even if it’s fake, all the point still stands honestly. Obviously no one should falsify it but even if it wasn’t his actual experience it’s probably is reflective of someone’s experience as a male victim. Regardless, how are you finding the place so far?

Regardless of if I agree or not with your beliefs I want to thank you for even being here at all as a feminist. I definitely agree with the tunnel vision argument, because even in subs like this a lot of people get tunnel vision.

And it’s not even going into “by other men”. I literally can’t think of a single reason people say that. It’s being done not as a reaction to saying ALL women rape, a lot of the time it doesn’t even include women. The sole reason might be the lack of ability to believe women can do these bad things as well.

The moment I saw the original comic I knew someone would react this way. I think lots of these people don’t know how bad the message they sending really are, and simply aren’t willing to listen when we tell them. Men don’t say “not all men” to derail women. They say not all men because they are reacting to post that generalize them with assholes. Men don’t say “men get raped too” to derail women, they say men get raped too because they are reacting to post that implies women are the sole victims…

Doesn’t men’s issue deserve to be seen from other perspectives apart from feminism? At the end of the day, no matter what the feminist approach to gender issues is only an approach. Yet it’s treated as a set in stone fact. However, even in legitimate scientific spaces there can be multiple of approaches to things that are taken seriously. For example, in psychology there is no “one” cause of disorders. Each schools of psychology has its own theories of what the problems are. Despite this, and de…

Idk about the whole gender reverse thing man. As much of a male advocate as I am, I think if women want to have female doctors and personal trainers that’s more than reasonable. If they feel safer doing that I’m glad they do, and I think if men think switching to service by other men will make their lives better than that’s good as well. I think some gender reversing is needed for highlighting hypocrisy but with this it just seems petty. To answer your question l, I talk about men’s issues to so…

I get what you’re getting at here, but if I’m not wrong that’s very self help like. The thing is it’s only useful for a very specific amount of men’s issues. Yeah let’s say you transformed yourself into a mentally strong man and help other struggling men, how much good is that really. Maybe you can help a friend or a family member, but the idea that doing that will get us somewhere is far fetched. The reason people here criticize feminism isn’t because it centers women. That’s obviously going to…

Downvote doesn’t mean it’s wrong, it means it’s irrelevant. Yes most of us know it’s by other men. No to us it does not matter beyond the rational question of “how do we solve this”. Whenever this is said it is always said in order to try and derail to conversation. There are very limited cases of “By other men” that actually is done in good faith.

/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates14/06/24 02:57 AM
4

I’m assuming you’re arguing in good faith. A lot of things only make sense if you’re looking at it from a certain perspective. You’re looking at this from a patriarchy theory perspective and from that perspective you have to dismiss the abuse many men face and minimize experiences of men. Men might potentially be the minority of victims, but how minor are men? A lot of abuse statistics shows that men are at least a very large minority of abuse or rape. The Home Office released data that shows po…

I’m sure they’re gonna accuse you of downplaying women’s struggles if you ever speak up. That or itll be denying that they were abusive.
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates13/06/24 12:36 PM
16

That’s something I’ve always noticed too. Every single time it comes up the argument goes: “Men are scared women are mean, women are scared men would kill them” -“Actually that statement is untrue, we get abused by women too” Then they either say they’re sorry that happen but they won’t change their opinion despite being proven wrong or attempt to minimize it by saying it’s very rare. Either way the stores men have are not taken seriously.
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates13/06/24 10:46 AM
22

This is why I don’t like the patriarchy theory. When it’s getting talk about its ways in the form of being against gender roles and at times being used in place of gender roles, but it is anything but against it. That theory is just a different form of gender roles of men as offenders and oppressors and women as the victim. It’s such a harmful theory and this frustrates me so much. It’s why men suffer in silence.
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates13/06/24 07:41 AM
13

I feel like it’s at least because of the whole theory of patriarchy. It’s a narrative of male oppression against women which results in men only being able to suffer as a byproduct of female oppression. It’s a narrative of female oppression being systematic and the main concern, while male issues are just here and there minor stuff.
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates13/06/24 07:36 AM
17

I think of it differently. I think men are expected to always want sex and always like sex while women are expected to he prudish.
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates13/06/24 04:32 AM
48

I remember seeing a statistic that only 14% of men consider their assault to be an assault. You’re definitely right in this aspect. I think many men with these experiences shrug it off as weird encounters, or some even as something you should be proud of instead of thinking of them the same way women do.

I agree with your general sentiment, I’m just not sure it applies in this case. I don’t see how any of this blames men at all. I don’t feel vilified by the message and I don’t find anything problematic with it, even if it is outdated.
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates23/05/24 05:26 AM
3

Yeah man. Like yeah I understand why we’re like this but it’s also sad to see the current state of men’s advocates. Apart from external things, our own level of sensitivity is probably our biggest weakness.
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates23/05/24 03:12 AM
-17

I agree with you that we shouldn’t pretend men don’t have difficulties, otherwise I wouldn’t be here. But why there? It’s a message for women to empower them. It would be better if we can create separate conversations about our difficulties rather than going to everything message to women and going “what about us”

I don’t think anything said there is wrong or warrants a response from us. It seems that this message was written a while ago, so most of the things said seems to be accurate. It is true that women used to face discrimination in these field and to a degree still do. It doesn’t mention findings to help women in stem because it doesn’t have to, it’s an encouraging message. I’m very impressed with your knowledge on this subject. It could be argued that because the lifetime prevalence doesn’t reflect the 12-month prevalence, it would be wrong to say so. However, I disagree with the idea that lifetime prevalence should take precedent. First of all, it is irrespective of generational trends. Things could have changed a lot in a century and a person who grew up in the 30s will not have the same experience as kids today. Then there is the issue of concurrent variables. …

Honestly I’m surprised how little people know, or care about mens issues, even among MRA groups. I mean it took me years to hear statistics like men could potentially make up 50% of rape victims or that only men can be charged with rape in England. I was literally in shock when I found out about this, and I was pretty pro male advocacy. Even things that are pretty clearly established usually get neglected. The statistics cited the National Intimate Partner and Sexual Violence survey, which defines rape as “forced penetration of the anus, vagina or mouth no matter how slight”. Since women do not have penises, women usually do not penetrate. That would be considered “forced to penetrate” which is counted separately than rape in that survey. In 2011, using that survey, if we merge both terms together, men do make up roughly half of the victims of rape.

The biggest disappointment is the fact that despite the fact that men face very real systemic discrimination as well as other serious issues, mens rights as a movement has been turned into a fringe reactionary purely anti feminist movement by (almost) every ideology.

I think it's been getting better recently, with many younger people thinking it's okay to be a bit "sus" and all. Many years ago this wouldn't really be acceptable. However, I would say that while lesbians do face other issues too, like fetishising (which let's be real here, gay men also experience), I would definitely say acceptance for gay men is behind.

No, it is a fact that I have never seen that is what I meant. No, I am not choosing to ignore it. I have never seen it. First of all, what do you think guys talk about? Their favorite porn preferences? How hot lesbians are? Nah, maybe a limited amount of guys do that, but I've never heard that in my life. A limited amount of girls I know however are the opposite. They talk about it proudly, post about it and actively seeks it. Despite not being gay, I have been teased and shipped with other guys…

I absolutely hate the idea that men are just edgy homophobic racist people, and women are the good ones. From my experience, I have never seen any men objectify and fetishise lesbians, but I have seen plenty of women fetishise and objectify gay men.

I think you have a good point, but I also think it's a lot more complicated than that. Feminism is a huge umbrella term that includes many types of feminist, like radical feminist or even right wing feminist. However, I would argue that it's hard to classify and criticize only a specific group of feminist because most of their beliefs are very similar. Not only this, sometimes feminist group that may not share the same misandristic believes still enable those "bad feminist" to continue not being…

Men's rights and women's rights can work together On paper, men's rights advocates and feminist also can work together. Its just that in practice, a lot of feminist "solutions", sentiments and actions, like the ones in that post, hurt men. You don't have to cover them as opposite parties that must fight, but to fight for men's issues you must also recognize that feminism requires some serious reforms since they are the cause of several problems affecting men.

The CDC separates "rape", meaning forced penetration from "forced to penetrate", or getting forced to penetrate someone. Since men have a penis, it is more common for men to be forced to penetrate rather than to be penetrated. For the numbers, it's from this (state report, published in 2017) survey, page 18 bottom left. I'll just quote it "In the U.S., 1.2% of women were raped and 1.5% of men were made to penetrate someone else in the 12 months prior to taking the survey." There was also the sam…

I would say America is matriarchal society, but I guess it all depends on what the fuck patriarchy/matriarchy means anymore. At its most basic form, they mean a family led by a mother/father. Well, for example I criticize feminism for harboring misandry, but some MRAs are very misogynistic as well. It's somewhat late at night so I won't be linking it, at least not now, but I don't think "we should improve ourselves" is really a controversial idea in the first place.

Because feminism is rewarded with the moral high ground automatically despite any actions because of what it stands for, while fighting for men's right is seen as an alt right anti-women incel thing to do. Of course even though the two movements have the same goals, being gender equality.

I hope you're right, but unfortunately some people are pretty dumb/unopen to new ideas. Criticism of feminism has been viewed as misogyny before and some people have a really hard time separating feminism from women, so I wouldn't be surprised if it happens again. Also England has pretty unfair laws, and there is bias in the justice system so it's not that hard to believe.

Yeah, the post on r/askfeminist called all of us misogynist in denial for criticizing of feminist lmao. The funny thing is the dude who said that said "I'm not willing to participate in community that already hate us" then go on to say "you should explore feminism more" It just makes me wonder, if disagreeing with feminism is misogyny then is disagreeing with Men's rights misandry?

I'm all against misogyny and everything, but a better question is if misogyny was made a hate crime will it be enforced fairly? What will be considered misogyny? Because I know damn well people often stretch the definition of misogyny out. Is criticism of feminism going to be misogyny? How about discussing men's rights? Will there be bias in enforcement of this law and if misogyny is a hate crime will misandry be considered hate crime as well? I guess it's one of those laws that sounds good, but…

Well, we're both dudes I'm assume, so that's the whole point, we don't know about it. Nah I think that's just because you're not open to hearing it. Men and women both have issues and it's not a competition of who has it worse wins. For example women don't exactly have a cake walk when it comes to sexual harassment.

Not really. Misandry is systematic with many laws that disadvantages males, like rape laws. It's ingrained in society, for example the idea of male disposability. It is deadly to men due to it's effect on male mental health. You could lump it with patriarchy if you stretch the definition enough and say feminism is already on it I guess, but the fact is it's still a problem, and sadly feminism is a huge cause of it. It depends on what the fuck even is the "patriarchy" anymore. The basic original meaning is just a house headed by a father, like matriarchy. Then to feminist, it's a political system where men lead, which logically also means that back when Theresa May was the PM, Britain was a matriarchy but no one ever talks about that. After that it got stretched into a system that benefits men. Then it stretched to traditional gender roles. I just don't know what the fuck "patriarchy" stands for anymore.

I don't have a problem with stopping real incels, but how exactly are we defining incels? Are they just people on 4chan who self identify as incels? Do they include people in r/mensrights too? Heck do they include us here, in a sub with rules against misogyny too? Or hell, is anyone who ever spoke about men's issues on reddit an incel too? I'm just asking this because I've seen people talking about simple men's problems labeled an incel, misogynist and more before.

Honestly I'm annoyed at how people portray life as men. For example, in Brooklyn 99, there was an episode about women and sexual harrassment, which is something I think is great. However the episode just paints the picture that men live careless lives, oblivious to all the sexual crimes women experience. This is just untrue. Men are disadvantaged in a lot of field, discriminated against, and face serious issues that affect men disproportionately too. Even when it comes to sexual crimes men don't…

Honestly I think the biggest contributer of this is the idea that any organization/movements that's left-winged have to moral high ground. Just because a movement's goal is a good thing, does not mean the movement is good. Let me explain. If one day I open an organization called "cure cancer" in order to cure cancer, that's a good goal most people would support. However, what if I only focus on breast cancer in men, instead of all cancers, raise fundings by selling cigarettes and alcohol, and us…

Honestly, statistically women are less likely to be a victim of violent crime with the exception of rape and sexual assault. Even in cases of rape and sexual assaults, it's typically don't by a close friend or acquaintance rather than strangers. Are women at risk walking alone at night? Certainly, but not any more of a risk than a man would be. This just makes me wonder how society decides to think "if men disappear for one day we would be so safe" instead of "everyone should take precautions fo…

Honestly, 50%, 30 or 20% or not, it should not matter how many men are victims. If it affects men, it's our problem too, even if it's 1%. This may sound a bit radical, but think about this, is there any problem that we think of as a gendered issue apart from sexual violence? We don't treat suicide as a men only issue. We don't treat workplace death as a men's issue either. So why should it be any different?

Yes, it does matter that it happened with in 12 months, let me explain it to you Imagine this: In 2000 my city conduct a survey asking people "have you were been robbed" Let's say out of 100 people who got robbed, 90 were women. Let say my city decided to conduct another survey in 2012. Out of the 100 people robbed, 50 were women. The total count of female/male victim would be 140 women, 60 men. This means 70% of victims were women. Now applying your logic, women get robbed more so the city make…

On profiling though, it is pretty much the same since men don't just go out and target women for crimes, except sexual ones, either. Men aren't actually less likely to reach out for help. I think you misunderstood the CDC survey. In 2012 they conducted the survey that found that 1.7% of males within 12 months of the survey And 1.6% of females within 12 months of the survey You are also right about the 19% statistics, however the men's number does not count forced to penetrate as rape. Also a lifetime is usually very long, so it is likely that the number is outdated. Also the English rape law is 100% true, yes they can be prosecuted, but imagine if one day the President comes out …

Well, please look at this with an open mind, because rape as a 50/50 thing is really hard to believe, but sadly it's true. Before we start let's define rape. Rape: Forced sex on someone who doesn't want it. Reasonable right? This study finds that 48% of people who self-report rape/attempts to rape are women. This survey conducted by the CDC in 2011 found that 1.7% of males were forced to penetrate within 12 months before the survey (which by all means, is rape, but often isn't counted legally or…

OH another qoute from that post "Women and men have it equally bad, and I'm tired of men framing it simply as a gender issue where men are disproportionally affected." The vast majority of male rape, when defined properly, are actually committed by females, not males. "79 percent of men who were “made to penetrate” someone else (a form of rape, in the view of most researchers) reported female perpetrators." -Scientific American It is also true that men do commit more violent crime, but black people commit twice as much violent crimes as white people, which means to say "it makes sense for women to fear men more because men commit more crimes" would make as muc…

I don't understand people sometimes. Hating men is not female empowerment, yet they act like it. Unwanted or offensive comments about women are sexiest and misogynistic, but the same comments towards men are perfectly fine.
