Thanks. Hard to believe that its been 45 days since you and i first discussed the situation. Other than a couple of bumps in the road with my daughter, I’m pretty much on the plan i had set. thanks for the support.

Both kids are adults. I’d love to hang around and make her miserable but it would be the other way around.

We’ve talked. He is aligned. My wife has abusive traits, very likely a personality disorder. Chances are high i could end up with some type of domestic violence false allegation. Not my preference but a necessary maneuver.

Like a child testing to see if their parent is still angry with them. Sad.

I had another example from mine. Major blow out with my daughter when they were out west moving my daughter into a new apartment. Horrific experience being 2000 miles away listening to this chaos And i know it takes two to fight like that but during the calls i heard these things from my wife about my daughter: she is a monster (that i created), she is a disgrace, she is a piece of shit, she is a horrible child, she needs to be on mood stabilizers…These are things she said to me and to my daught…

Despite all the abuse Ive endured I still succumb to the slightest guilt trip. And it never buys me any respite from future abuse.

Very inspiring. Thanks for posting. I’m planning my departure. Really torturing myself with doubts, fear of regrets, hurt I may inflict on my adult children. And i even worry about hurting my wife who has hurt me numerous times without a genuine apology.

My plan hit a bump. My daughter that lives in Colorado out of the blue cut herself for the first time. She had never done that. She has been struggling with depression and some self medication…but she had been doing better. My wife freaked out, completely wrong thing to do. Talking in an aggressive, angry tone. Trying to find out why she did it. Upset my daughter, she fought back…and then the fireworks started. Now I’m the bad guy for not taking my wife’s side. Of course my wife was upset that t…

Need some urgent advice. Big argument with the wife. When i said i was leaving she grabbed my laptop, my employer provided laptop, i wrestled with her a little to get it back. She claims she has a bruise or something….but i didnt see it. Not sure what to do, i want to get the fuck out of here…but afraid she will call the cops and file the police. Should i call the police and let them know what happened? Hold out until I’m sure there is no bruise?

Inspiring!…What generation are you? Any children? Did she work? How onerous is the alimony?

This is pretty much what happened to me. Wife worked up until our second child, then got laid off. I was working for a tech startup and it looked very promising that i might get rich. When she got laid off, she suggested staying home, she wast making a whole lot more than day care was costing….and we discussed, i could actually discuss things back then, i said we needed to be frugal if we were going to make it work and we agreed. I was a little opportunistic thinking that I wouldn’t have to deal…

Forgot to mention she has a drinking problem. It’s not that she drinks all day or anything like that…but a glass of wine or two on an empty stomach and she becomes unbearable. If its cosmos it can be even worse. And if something turns into a conflict while she is intoxicated, forget it, she goes crazy. It’s exhausting and dangerous.

I have considered the Hail Mary but i considered the couples therapy sort of that. I really feel like i have done all the hard work for a long time. And she doesnt believe she has a problem…so i could coerce and threaten her into doing it, but then its on me to monitor her and make sure she stays on the meds and goes to therapy. There are two schools of thought on the coercive approach, some think it can work, others say no. And i tried it 7 years ago and it didn’t hold. The enneagram is interes…

I am in Connecticut. I have spoken to 3 - 4 different attorneys over the 7 years. We have tried essentially 5 therapists. The initial attempt was related to what we thought were emotional problems we thought my son was having. But it became clear he was acting out against my wife, it became clear and she refused to return to group counseling. Then we tried family therapy again, but converted that to couples therapy, which she abandoned after she got in an altercation with my daughter, whom expla…

7 years ago i moved out for about 5 months. I was going to file then. She begged me to come back. She agreed to get therapy and took meds for a while. Things did get better for while. But she still had the rage episodes. Then she just unilaterally stopped personal therapy and stopped taking meds. And I’d say its been a slow, steady decline. My children no longer live at home, but when ever there is a family event or trip, there is usually some sort of tantrum or tirade, so i have to be alert at …

Some days it’s bad. A 53 year old woman that raises her voice and yells at the the slightest disagreement. Arguments immediately become name calling events: I’m an idiot, stupid, horrible human being, the worst husband, douche bad, asshole, etc. She has an inability to control her emotions so I do the walking oneggshells thing to prevent any conflicts. I’ve tried coupes therapy 5 times. Never gets any where because she cant tolerate the distress of discussing her bad behavior. She just blames ot…

My attorney says 1/3 of net income until i retire

Honestly, 1/3 of my net income should be enough for one person to live on.

I am struggling with depression/dysthymia (from dealing with abuse, i think) and i am seeing a therapist. I live with my wife, the children do not. I’m relatively secure, but how do i assess? I’m very concerned that my wife will take out her anger, rage, blame, threats on my children and cause them distress. I really dont have a plan, my daughter is moving apartment August 10 and supposed to be visiting with us for 3 weeks beginning next week, I was going to discuss with my attorney filing for d…

Fair enough. Perhaps i worry about my own motivations and intentions, but i have no doubt my kids no what the problem is. But what about discussing the situations before or after I file.

I’m preparing to divorce my wife of 29 years. There are no custody issues, one more semester of college for my youngest. I have spoken to an attorney and he indicated that since my wife has not worked for 20 years she is entitled to support up until i retire (I’m 54). He indicated that support would be approximately 1/3 of my net income. We split all the assets, but after the divorce the 401Ks and other retirement accounts are split and that i will have no obligation to contribute to her retirem…
