I assume you mean 'became a millionaire'? Also his fucking catchphrase has been 'the top zero point one percent' as long as I can remember. Dude has been fighting the fight long enough that a few million dollars became a reasonable net worth for a successful old man.

I remember when it was a talking point in MRA circles that trans women outnumbered trans men by about 2:1, we assumed because of the differences in how society treats men and women. Of course that seems to have rapidly levelled out for whatever reasons over the last five years, so shrug.

I'm convinced that a lot of the sort of men who engage in stalking behavior have BPD.

That's okay, being a conservative or right wing is all about being obstinately incorrect while the rest of the world moves on around you.

Vaush doesn't seem to accept the strict oppressor/oppressed dichotomy that a lot of intersections activists stand by, which is why he also doesn't put up with black activists actually being outright racially hateful about white people. Given the amount of platform he has, I think we need to back him on this one.

You are responding to something I haven't said. The only thing I have said here is that it is expected from biology and physics that women will end up injured more often than men in domestic violence situations. That doesn't mean men aren't being abused and suffering. That doesn't mean men are never injured. That doesn't mean women are incapable of hurting men.
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates28/10/22 05:55 AM

Women UFC fighters are in the top like 1% of women in capacity for violence, and you'll notice that they don't fight male UFC fighters. And most domestic violence situations aren't a trained fighter making a serious and calculated effort to harm you, they're a frustrated person with impulse control and conflict management issues lashing out haphazardly. Your bones are literally denser. Your skin is literally tougher. I'm not saying 'men are impervious', but there's a reason we come out better in…
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates27/10/22 06:37 AM

Behavior aside completely, men are on average 60% stronger than women, and significantly harder to injure for several reasons. Most of these are effects of testosterone. The result is that the average man does not need a weapon to significantly injure the average woman, while the reverse is not true. Obviously women can injure men, they're just less likely to in any given random outburst of violence.

It was definitely not always like that. It started out quite progressive, and then over time has had constant waves back and forth of conservative and shitty ideology, progressively getting worse over time since around 2015.

The only way you can believe misandry isn't systemic is to believe that men deserve every negative position they are in. This boils down to a supremacist attitude.

The bottom line is that most heterosexual women are attracted to dominant confidence. Dominant confidence takes a lot of forms, including toxic, abusive ones. Efforts to defend against these tendencies can lead to a complex mess of interactions.

I'm not saying that you have a special responsibility to listen in this particular case, but that generally we should be willing to listen to each other's experiences of societal problems, try to understand where other human beings are coming from, and give input from that understanding. I understand where your defensiveness comes from, I just think it's better to rise above. And yes, that means disregarding people like those you describe who want to pull you down and blame you for what other pe…

There's two sides to this honestly. Sometimes saying 'not all men' is a legitimate response to someone over-generalizing, and people really need to stop doing that. If you have a problem with masculine cultural expectations, you need to leave room for recognizing that not everyone succumbs to or reinforces those expectations, and being lumped in with people who do often makes it seem pointless to resist them in the first place. On the other hand, it can sometimes be used as a reflexive, defensiv…

I would avoid direct criticism of feminism as well, but YMMV This. People here are largely not ready to hear it, but we'd get a lot farther if we qualified and lightened and made more scarce our critique of feminism. There are people on our side who will try to blame feminism for all mistreatment of men, and that's just not accurate at all.

That is what he showed in his federal appeal, and successfully got his conviction overturned. The Supreme Court just overruled that appeal.

The issue is that the original counsel failed to present or challenge certain important pieces of evidence, and the convicted would need to present that evidence to demonstrate that they were insufficient.

If you think of a woman whose had sex with a man as 'less pure' in a way that wouldn't be the case if she'd done the same act with a woman, it's because you think male sexualty is a dirty, corrupting thing.

I've long felt that our trans brothers and sisters and various other siblings had a unique position to understand the world of gender better than either side of it could. Trans people of nearly all sorts end up experiencing both misandry and misogyny in different times and situations, and often more severe versions of both.

This brain rot is the worst thing to happen to our community in the last decade. There are different groups of feminists that have different positions, and treating them as a monolith is idiocy that will lose us support.

I thought conflating stoicism with emotionlessness and passivity was a feminist bs Not everything wrong is feminist. And an external expectation of stoicism operates very differently from the kind of emotional maturity that the actual stoic philosophy is about.
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates22/02/22 04:24 PM
32

Stoicism is an expectation of masculinity largely to make it easier to exploit us as a resource in labor and war. Far more men die or are injured in workplace accidents, and far more men have their bodies gradually destroyed by their labor. Society trains us to accept this without complaint.

Yeah, at best you get people saying "It'S iRoNiC!" And being mad at you for taking it seriously.
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates04/12/21 10:23 PM

I'd call it 'toxic feminine expectations' when it was an enforced standard of womanhood and assertive women were chided for not being 'ladylike' or whatever, and 'internalized mysogyny' when it came from a belief that women had nothing worthwhile to say.
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates27/11/21 09:38 PM

Personally, I'd like to switch to 'toxic masculine expectations' and 'toxic feminine expectations' as separate things under 'toxic gender expectations', which is a separate thing from internalized misandry/misogyny. IMO those latter terms should be preserved for actual hatred and resentment of that group, while the former terms should be used for harmful expectations that members of the group are held to and punished for not achieving. Centrally, here's my issue: masculinity on its own is someth…

While false rape and domestic violence accusations are real and should be taken seriously, I look suspiciously on anyone who seems to put a higher priority on it than on male victims of rape and domestic violence. Some people have themselves been a victim of false accusations, and I can understand them having a particular focus, but most of the sort of people I'm talking about don't seem to have that story.
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates25/11/21 11:52 PM

Frankly I think a lot of them would prefer that women get less help rather than men get more.

The vast majority of violence is caused by young men, too, who often are more insecure about their social status and less aware of their vulnerability to harm and consequences.

This is an extremely common sentiment, to the point where it actually crops up on r/menslib on the regular with dozens of transmen per thread talking about how the misandry in progressive and/or feminist spaces makes it hard to accept being a man. I'm going to also recommend this comic for a progressive cis man dealing with the same internalized hate. https://www.rejectedprincesses.com/full-width/wheredyougo
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates01/11/21 07:13 AM

There is enough actual misandry that we don't need to go haring off on random assumptions. This makes us look obsessed and paranoid and like we're trying to defend the right to do bad things. Stop. Let us know when people are actually treating the problem as gendered, and chill the fuck out until they do.

Do you have any evidence that the inclusion of transwomen in these things makes them less safe? Any actual data? Not bullshit 'common sense' like the type that's used to denigrate men all the time?
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates29/10/21 07:21 AM
21

Both transmen and transwomen experience both misandry and misogyny, as they are perceived as either by different groups. The hatred isn't defined by who you are, but by how you are percieved.
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates29/10/21 06:26 AM
31

This is part of why I think we need to make a big point about being trans-inclusive. Because transwomen and transmen both suffer from misandry to the extent that they are perceived as men, we have a very significant common interest.

So you're saying that that's the way it is, but not the way it ought to be?
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates19/10/21 08:12 PM

It really won't. The right and left wing both recognize the problems, but typically have drastically different solutions. In my experience, right wing MRAs tend to default either to 'everyone should be treated as badly as men' or 'traditional gender roles are a good thing actually'. Meanwhile on the left when we see a double standard we want both men and women to be treated generously.

Men's Advocacy and Feminism should be separate branches under the general movement of gender equality and liberation. The term Feminism will always center womens' experiences and interests, and men cannot expect to be represented in that environment.

From what I've seen she's also pretty frequently the voice of reason when the others want to take things off the rails. She's refreshingly down to earth and pragmatic for a celebrity. Looking into it, she was literally a black girl from the projects, so that's not surprising.

It's frustrating that the term has a built-in motte and bailey effect. It seems obvious to me that for a long time society was organized around powerful patriarchs, as in the elder male leaders of large families. But those leaders distributed power to those who were closest and most useful to them, and not just to other men. Male disposability, for instance, has been indoctrinated into us because these few powerful people found it useful to make us complain less when sacrifice is demanded of us,…

What I'm proposing is that if father and mother and brother live in the same house, they all can visit, but uncle and aunt and cousin who live in different houses cannot visit. The exemption would be for anyone who shares a household with the mother.
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates15/07/21 11:50 PM

There's an easy solution there: Offer an exemption for one household only. The members of a household are likely to have about the same risk of carrying Covid on any given day. That would present some problems for divorced/single fathers, but at least there'd be a sane justification for it.

I'm going to go against the bandwagon running here and actually say yes. Every inch of ground we gain matters. Getting feminists to admit that male rape victims exist and matter, that women can be perpetrators in rape and domestic violence, that men face severe mental health and homelessness issues in our society, all of these make a difference. They'll pretend that feminism always stood for these things, in willful ignorance of the last several decades, but that matters far less than whether th…

Without the oppressor/oppressed dichotemy, we can use the intersectional framing to examine and point out how for instance the experience of black men, or disabled men, are shaped by the intersection of those two identities. We can point out that the intersection of black and male experiences many disadvantages far more so than the intersection of black and female, and ask why that is. We can point out that disabled men are especially affected by the way that their disability often makes it diff…

Honestly the problem isn't intersectionality itself, it's the oppressor/oppressed dichotemy. The idea that every axis of identity has one side that only oppresses and one side that is only oppressed. Reality is a lot more complicated than that, with different social expectations and advantages and disadvantages on both sides, but the main point for many social justice types is to identify villain identities, not actually recognize and solve problems.

Patriarchy being extended to include all men has always been malformed nonsense. That our society has for quite some time been based around the interests of patriarchs, and the people closely associated with and favored by them, is pretty clear. It serves the interests of said patriarchs to privilege and protect women, and to force men to be stoic and disposable, unless they happen to be in line for power. Fragile masculinity is supposed to refer to the anxiety felt by men about potentially falling short of cultural expectations of manhood. Except we have a better term for this: precarious masculinity. But precarious masculinity doesn't work as a way to insult someone nearly as well. "You're being pretty precarious right now", "masculinity so precarious", notice how these lack the same bite? I think that there's a tendency to doomed about this, but more and more I've seen male issues come up and anti-male hatred be called out in more mainstream left circles. The vast majority of hate transwomen face is the result of people percieving them as deceptive and perverted men, trying to steal privileges and protections reserved for women. The kind of activism we need is theory. We need a set of facts, understandings, and explanations that make sense, are in line with the data, and offer better explanations than the alternative. And this is very important, we need to deliver these understandings calmly and reasonably in the face of our adversaries unreasnableness. We need to avoid any sense of disrespect or derision. We just need our explanations to better match the lived experiences of our audience.

You haven't correctly identified the double standard. Being ok with being sexualized under some conditions but not others is reasonable. The double standard comes in when feminists get upset at men expressing attraction for or fantasizing about, say, female celebrities, but don't for a moment refrain from doing the same regarding male celebrities. It just boils down to male sexual attention being seen as degrading while female sexual attention is seen as benign.

I don't see why a word should not retain an objective meaning I really need to hammer down on this, both from a lingual and philosophical perspective. No word in any language ever has an objective meaning. All words exist as a mutual agreement by the people using them. Those who are treating trans people as their new pet project are diplorable tbh. I guarantee once a new fashionably political subject emerges the trans group will be dropped, or the moment trans-men become even a little bit normalised they'll be accused of misogyny through Patriarchical privledge or some nonsense. It depends on the journalist and the tone and the topic. A video game journalist? Absolutely. A journalist covering the 'debate bloodsports' culture on YouTube? Sure! Honestly, though, the article makes it sound like that was the tamest thing he said, and therefore the thing they felt like they could print. It doesn't sound like this Biden aide was engaging in banter, but I can't really tell without seeing the full context of the conversation, rather than a vague account like this.

It really depends on the context. In a casual enough interview with a sense of banter, absolutely. "I will destroy you" is so overstated that i would assume ironic intent 9 times out of 10. And I've absolutely said that phrase jokingly to friends and acquaintances on numerous occasions.

From what I can tell, the problem is that radical feminism has so deeply infiltrated and entrenched itself into mainstream feminism that people don't question or challenge it, even when they don't agree with it. Most of the ideas that men are inherently bad come from that.

The massive movement within most of feminism against TERFs demonstrates to me that it is quite possible for feminists to hold other feminists accountable and exert pressure on them to stop certain behaviors. I'd love to see even half of the energy we see against TERFs be applied to open misandrists.

This is part of the reactionary right-wing pipeline that we need to watch out for whenever we criticize elements of the left. When people see you engaging with a topic that they disagree with, like social justice or feminism or anti-white bigotry (to the extent that it exists), people who are enemies of progressivism in general will be happy to talk to you about how they also have a problem with these things, but then slowly mix in their own right-wing ideas and expand the terms to include every…

At this point the best thing to do is ignore him. This would, in my opinion, be a massive mistake. Vaush's takes on men's issues are honestly one of the best inroads we have to getting large amounts of people on the left to understand our points. We should be highlighting where he agrees with us to other people on the left, not using every point on which he disagrees with us to drive a wedge between him and us. Weirdly enough, in certain very progressive spaces your trans status gives you a sort of privilege. Those spaces are also often rife with misandry, but people will hesitate to direct that misandry at you. Call this out when you see it. One of the most frustrating things about the privilege framework is the insistence that certain groups have no privileges whatsoever. It feels disingenuous, as if they're trying to hide something. In most cases, like with black people, even if you're generous with what you'll call a black privilege it clearly doesn't measure up to what White people get. When they feel the need to hide their privileges, it kinda feels like they know the equation might not work out so obviously.

To my understanding, one significant trigger for dysphoria among many trans people is to be perceived, and to perceive oneself, as the non-preferred gender. Anecdotes are important because it is basically impossible to empathize with data. While data might convince us intellectually of something, the only thing that will convince someone on an emotional level that another person's hardship should be attended to is to show that person what it feels like to live that experience. Also That adolescents might want sex? Okay, porn laws are based on Victorianism, while age of consent probably is just a plug for multiple loopholes. Is not a source from science. GTFO until you have one.

Treating everyone as average also is wrong. Maybe you should have fucking thought of that before you generalized all 14 year old boys as sex fiends? And even so, the scientific consensus is that age of consent laws are not based on science but are based on Victorianism. So what is the scientific consensus then? You got any actual sources?

As I've been told before, darling, not every conversation is about you. Also, whether the law perceives someone as a man isn't entirely based on their possession of a womb. I have no idea how transmen getting pregnant is commonly treated legally, but I imagine the record is less than stellar.

This argument is bullshit. The choice is not between taking money from the rape victim and letting the child starve. If necessary, the state can support the child. That's why we pay taxes.

A rape victim should not be treated as a parent. Parenthood should not be involuntary. We understand this when it comes to women, but when it happens to men everyone's like 'sorry, nothing can be done'. That's bullshit and you know it.

There is no one 'what being married is like'. Marriage is a set of expectations and obligations worked out between a particular couple, mixed with each of them learning to live and compromise with or be perpetually frustrated by the other's faults. Hypergamy is about social status, full stop. All the other shit is either the paraphernalia of social status, or attributes that typically make it easier to acquire social status. Hypergamy is the tendency of a woman to seek a mate that is higher status than she is, within the bounds of what seems achievable. The stereotypical 'nice guy' story usually involves a female friend who continuously, over the course of years, leans on the 'nice guy' for emotional support, but never considers the 'nice guy' sexually interesting. Typically the woman in this situation is willing to be completely emotionally and physically vulnerable around the 'nice guy', and doesn't act in a way that indicates she suspects him of likely mistreating her, but instead just doesn't see him as a sexual being at all.

My point through this whole thing is that 'toxic' anything can be rendered defensible by claiming it only describes bad behavior associated with a group, but that hearing a group you are associated with called 'toxic' will make most people defensive, especially when the term is used as dismissively as 'toxic masculinity' often is.

This can sometimes lead to a vicious cycle, because women's social status was traditionally tied to her husband. So you get a higher status man, you convince him to marry you, and then over time your perception of your status rises to match his, and suddenly you're no longer satisfied with how good of a 'catch' he was. the ppl saying they don't experience oppression are living those experience thanks to decades of feminist movements This is true, but it is also often said by the critics of feminism that the previous waves had real problems, and it's only the current crop that has gone off the rails because almost every real problem has been solved for them.

I didn't know that feminism made any scientific arguments about anything related to men. Feminism doesn't do anything, because Feminism is not an organization or entity and is therefore incapable of taking any actions whatsoever. However, many feminists do make quantifiable claims about men under the auspice of feminism. Such claims include but are not limited to: -How often men are the perpetrators or victims of domestic violence, and what their reasons for it are (patriarchal terrorism) -How m…

It's a recognized problem that while women have significant ingroup bias for other women, most men entirely lack this. It's also a significant problem that men often lack empathy with other men and have misandric beliefs.

And I'm fine with courts deciding that on an individual basis, based on the realities of the situation. The problem is that currently the system is tainted by unfair generalizations and a lack of consequences for women who break the rules. There are lots of men who are natural caregivers. If a man willingly enters a traditional relationship where he is the breadwinner and his wife's job is to stay home and care for the house and children, then that is what he signed up for as a man. Well, yeah, but by divorcing him, a woman is breaking that agreement, and so the new situation should be re-evaluated, shouldn't it? Frankly, I think the only useful definition of a 'Chad' is a man who has enough access to sex in general that the average man would have no cause for anxiety about where their next sexual encounter is coming from. Women aren't afraid of getting pumped and dumped. Why would they be afraid of having sex with a guy they are attracted to? This isn't the 19th century, they don't become spoiled goods by having casual sex. Are you aware that the act of sex releases bonding hormones in the vast majority of women, making them emotionally attached to the person they just had sex with? women's unchecked hypergamy (meaning women can pursue and enjoy sex with whomever they wish now). My understanding of the redpill hypothesis in this area is a bit more complex than that. I'm with you here, the misogyny in the MRM is counter-productive and poisons so many efforts and conversations. Sadly it seems rooted too deeply to be uprooted. The thing about the wage gap is that if you're honest about it, it's a rather complex situation at pretty much every level. I disagree. I think our society can evolve to treat men with an equivalent degree of respect and treat women with an equivalent degree of responsibility. I would say that it's more like there are subcultures like this. Aspects of femininity have been glorified by every successful culture in the world, by the majority of people. And there's a reason why most women will not call themselves feminists when discretely polled.

I think this is a big part of it. Men who act feminine often face scorn from every angle whenever they express themselves that way at all, so they don't lose as much by taking it further. Meanwhile women who act masculine are often supported and encouraged right up to the point where they might try to actually transition, at which point much of society will no longer know how to deal with them and many women will regard them as gender traitors.

That is indeed the individual solution. The societal solution is to make more people aware of this marketing and the purpose for it, and to encourage more people to critically examine their reasons for buying one product over another.

This is the reality that critical thinking reveals. This is not the reality that marketing creates in people's minds. Just because an effect is subtle does not render it nonexistent. /r/MensRights14/10/15 06:28 AM
3

Again, that wasn't the original intention at all. The legitimate purpose of bringing up 'privilege' in a discussion is as a response to the sort of people who dismiss the problems faced by others because they do not experience those problems and assume that someone would only experience those problems if they were acting badly.
/r/MensRights14/10/15 06:10 AM
4

The point of the concept of priviledge is to point out that some classes of people in some situations have some benefits that they may be ignorant of, because they do not understand that those benefits are not afforded to people of other classes. 'Check your privilege' before it became a meaningless catchphrase, was supposed to mean 'be aware that the benefits you take for granted may not apply to other people.'

That wasn't the original purpose for the idea of privilege. The problem comes when people get all absolutist about the concept and divide the world between 'the priviledged' and 'the oppressed' on strict racial and gender lines. That's a complete misunders…
