I meant that it is more toxic than most industries. People say the same thing about prostitution, that it is a job like any other, but there is a lot of research showing how bad it is. The only research I've seen on the arts is that sexual harassment off-camera/stage is much higher than in other industries. As of two years ago (last time I did a lit review) there was still nothing about overall mental health in the industry (as there has been for other fields in sexual harassment research) or ho…

I honestly don't know that much about her. I tend to assume anyone tough enough to survive in Hollywood is going to be at least a bit dysfunctional. I tend to assume that anyone willing to work in that toxic work environment is not as high value as they could be, though of course there's going to be a lot of variability. But it's possible she's high value by my standards. I don't know. I'm not trying to diss her. It's just that I'm skeptical, based on what I know about the film/television indust…

Is a robot a human? at what point is treating the robots like this ok or not ok? Is an actor a human? at what point is treating the actors like this ok or not ok? Personally, I think the nordic model should be applied to all paid employment, not just porn/prostitution/stripping. I'm aware that many radical feminists see the performing arts as somehow different, because it's art, but I can't agree, not when it's some people working for other people. It's not as extreme, but I think it's still ove…

I don't think sterility would be the most important thing for me. There are other reasons why a man could be sterile, or have low sperm quality, and that's just life. I would be concerned about how psychologically healthy he is now as a detrans. I mean, that's a lot to go through. So I'd be cautious about getting to know him and making sure I'm comfortable with where he's at. (On the other hand he probably has some interesting stories.)

I have savings (though they are shrinking for a variety of reasons). I just have a very limited income that is government handouts. Have you been on government handouts? They are generally kept as low as possible so long as we aren't dying in the streets, leading to long term health problems.

When I was a girl, The Dating Game had one regularly dressed man choose from three women in bikinis that he couldn't see (but the rest of us could) based on their answers to suggestive questions presumably scripted by the show (e.g. Are you more like the Roadrunner or Wile E. Coyote? He chose the Roadrunner.). Either that or a woman chose between three men. Some of the contestants were aspiring actors that later became well known. The prize package included a night in a hotel. I assume these sho…

I was that naive once. I didn't even like sex, had never even felt sexual desire and didn't know it was a thing (completely dissociated), but thought I was supposed to. Too much pop culture, not enough self-esteem.

This attitude also found in high IQ societies. Tests appear to be biased at the highest and lowest ranges; gifted men create even more biased tests to compensate because they haven't done their homework; and they will tell you that at the 99.9th %ile or up the ratio is 20–40 men per woman (when a quick look at membership lists indicates it's about 6 to 1, about the same ratio as Wikipedia editors, nudists, barefooters, and probably lots of other categories I am not familiar with) and that is mos…

I don't think this is realistic or fair to mothers and children. Ideally, we'd all be financially independent, but parenting is a job that falls primarily to women, and mothers usually want it that way (pregnancy/birth/nursing changes the female brain to keep babies alive). I think the answer is for money to be divided equally between the partners as it comes in, so she has a nest egg to fall back on. In this example, money doesn't appear to be the issue, at least not for now. In this case she b…

I'm not sure what is going on here, what you are trying to say. I tried getting into acting (because I've always gravitated to people in the performing arts, though they have often had day jobs too), but I had to quit acting classes twice because well-intentioned instructors who were otherwise pretty good kept teaching us to not have boundaries. Not OK at all. I think the work environment in general is really dysfunctional, and would love to see some standards, like the Nordic model (no more sex…

It depends a lot on how old you are, how experienced you are sizing people up, and how well developed your radar is. Younger people take longer to suss other people out. Give yourself at least 3 months regardless. What you're looking for is "just knowing", either just knowing someone is right for you or someone isn't. You also get this with jobs and friendships. It happens once you've seen enough, which takes as long as it takes. I'm lucky in that this happened in my first relationship without m…

Someday we will have a basic income and it will be less of an issue. I came across a suggestion a long time ago (in a book called The Dirty Half Dozen by a relationship therapist who realized he'd been giving bad advice and did a lit review) that couples split all income from all sources into two, with half going into his account and half going into hers. They split costs on mutually agreed on expenses, then get to do what they want with the rest. It might work. I'm not sure about splitting inve…

You seem to want to be around people just to be around people. Is socializing your only hobby? That's not much of a draw for them. Conversely, they're not really your friends if they blow you off on your birthday. Find a hobby you enjoy that is done by people of all ages, instead of just looking to socialize with women your own age. It will help you with networking down the road. Or, get a nice friendly dog who needs attention/will lavish attention on you and take it for regular walks where you …

I think they're actually surprisingly cheap. I haven't signed up so don't know the details of what she's offering, but I think it's more about how to level up (appearance, behaviour, attitudes), with feedback, and not so much about designer labels or whatever. I like a lot of her videos about behaviour.

I've read that what men say is that they don't want to date other men, so if you come across as masculine when you're with them, that's a turn off. So if you're successful, but come across as more feminine when dating, that might work for those men. Or if you're successful in a more feminine field, or in any field but with a feminine style. But then there's Margaret Thatcher, whose husband seemed quite happy with her the way she was. And he knew what she was like when they married, because she w…

I think at times the main purpose of male circumcision has been to diminish sensation to make sex less pleasurable. I'm pretty sure Moses Maimonides said something like that. Personally, I think the purpose is to mutilate babies in order to dominate them. Then people make stuff up to justify it. Religion, medical, whatever.

I had a coworker I decided after a few days was someone I did not want to interact with, but in the meantime I had told him a few things about myself casually - nothing I thought was a big deal. A month or so later he figured out where I was going over Christmas based on what I had said and he wondered out loud to me what would happen if he showed up to join me, as if it would be a nice thing. Total creep. Men remember if they're motivated.

I read something a while back about British people not changing their underwear every day either. I think that was more about not using clothes dryers and how long it takes anything to dry there. Not everyone does. It doesn't always matter. I'd be a lot more worried about other issues.

Back in the beginning of the sex wars (1980s), some feminists who were pro-porn said it was helping them get in touch with their sexuality (while others were clearly dysfunctional). I'm curious how those particular women feel about it now. There may still be women who think feminist porn is the solution.

(I am not talking about dating someone I find physically repulsive. I'm talking about where there's nothing physical one way or the other.) I think a lot of this media is aimed at young women who are establishing their independence. Girl power and all that. Role models in media tend to be a bit older than their audience. I know for me it wasn't just that I was a Pick Me (which I definitely was) but because I was thrilled at actually having my own money to spend. I was 24 when I realized that splitting costs just doesn't work, both because men tend to have more money and because of unpaid labour. I wasn't even old enough to think abo…

I used to go to a script reading series where actors would read an excerpt from a screenplay and then a panel of two people in the industry would comment on it. One screenplay had a rape and the author got chewed out after for it by one of the panelists. He said he put it in to make the bad guys look worse. I don't think he realized how it would affect women in the audience (and men, too, of course).

I can see "being in each others' lives for a reason" if you are helping each other level up equally. I can also see it working if you have different class backgrounds and he asks you for advice on how to pass in your class and he takes your advice (as well as looking for more information elsewhere) in order to support you better socially. But he's got to be seriously motivated in order not to be a project. That bolded statement sounds really one-sided.

Look at Jezebel for example of bad liberal feminism. That's not what developmentally delayed means. In the case of women who support prostitution, it's most likely they lack information/insight or that they don't feel capable of facing reality (which is pretty normal when it comes to anything traumatizing) rather than they are not cognitively sophisticated enough to understand what is going on when they're informed. And you might argue that it's social sophistication rather than cognitive development, but there's lack of social sophistication from…

I have been working on myself ever since (I needed a lot of work due to trauma, disability, isolation). I found out about FDS when people were talking about it on r/gendercritical. Is this more of a US-specific issue? I think the US has a much bigger military than other western countries, and more combat. I know you have higher crime rates. I'm not saying it's not an issue at all elsewhere, but I just don't think it's this bad in Canada, and I was really puzzled until I realized it might be US-specific.

It's true that settling for someone with lower energy does not work. Some people get lucky earlier on and just hit it off with the right person but so many of us have to test ourselves first, and be willing to believe in ourselves enough. Our instincts vs what other people think we are/should be.

I do have a lot of respect for Romeo Dallaire, and for men who do volunteer search and rescue. I'm not sure I'd want to date one, though. I was thinking of pimps and organized crime in general, where you won't find any HVM. With other jobs that might attract iffy men or warp them you may have fewer HVM, but you only need one. And I suspect a HVM will get out before he gets too warped. Even if he gets PTSD, some men are still gentlemen and don't take it out on loved ones.

HVW are unlikely to go into show biz (unless they get lucky early on or are just doing it for fun) because of how bad the working conditions are. That doesn't mean they can't level up once there.

I find Valentine's Day bizarre. I've never been with anyone for it, mostly because of seasonal energy swings - I don't meet new men until later in the spring and then I'm tired of them by the fall. For me the day was all about chocolate sales. :p Ditto for my birthday, which is in winter. I am hopefully off chocolate for life (it really isn't good for me and I'm getting too old to get away with it). A partner would be a nice substitute, but I keep imagining I'd forget about Valentine's Day and a…

I agree that he's encouraging young men to level up, and is acting as a father figure to them, which they need. (Better than Fight Club.) And I respect him for standing up for free speech. What he did mattered. But he is seriously ignorant of what it is like to be a woman in this world. • He was snickering about women fantasizing about BDSM/bad men without stopping to ask if this were more common in more egalitarian countries or more common in less egalitarian countries (the second - I checked),…

Is it LVM to become addicted to a prescription when followed as recommended? Or just LVM to need medication in the first place? He has been levelling up, by modifying his diet to carnivore, and that has been helping with the anxiety. I think if he had known how food was affecting his and his daughter's health they would have fixed it decades ago. Or is there something else? Illness and injury do not a LVM make, IMO. If they did, then all disabled people would be LV no matter what we made of ours…

If he has to bug you 10 times to get a response, he will learn that he can get a response after 10 bugs. The best response is no response whatsoever.

I used to assume I was ugly because of how people treated me (not realizing that being attractive can attract abuse) then saw myself in a few photos and realized I stood out more than most other people - colouring, intensity of personality - even though I don't have the most classic of facial structures. At some point I realized that no matter what you look like, intelligence shows in the face and is attractive, so in that sense I was and still am pretty hot. And I still have beautiful eyes. (Ye…

People keep talking about body odour here, and I just remembered my first boyfriend. When things were going well, I didn't notice his body odour, but as soon as I realized it wasn't going anywhere, I didn't like how he smelled anymore. If you think he stinks, just go find someone who smells better. No matter how much he bathes, he still might stink for you because you just don't like him. Body odour is a whole lot of things, not just stale sweat. I'd be surprised it it didn't include markers of …

Horses and boats. You can take lessons if you're interested. My cousins and their friends/neighbours had horses out at their country place. We had boats on a lake. My parents met at a yacht club - my mother owned and raced a dinghy and sometimes borrowed my father as crew. They're both LV but never mind that. Honestly, though, I think the best way to meet wealthy men is just to level up, so that wealthy people feel comfortable including you in their set. I think you can go anywhere and potential…

I found it hilarious that the Victorian feminist idea that women should only have to have sex if they wanted to conceive (as described in Sheila Jeffreys' The Spinster and her Enemies) lined up so neatly with the Catholic prescription to not use birth control, perhaps for completely different reasons. The problem of course is that men insisted on being able to have sex whenever they wanted and women were having too many children, affecting their health and their children's health.

A long time ago, when I was a very-young-for-my-age, naive 24-year-old, my bf moved in with me. We decided we would split all costs 50/50 to be fair. We were both grad students so in theory had equal incomes, however he somehow convinced his supervisor to top his up because it wasn't high enough. To be fair, he paid all his car costs, but he also spent money on fancy bicycles. I don't know if he had savings or not but all mine were gone and I was paycheque to paycheque. So, I would cook dinner a…

For me overweight would be a deal breaker. I mean, it sounds LVM. Balding is just testosterone. What kinds of personalities do they have? Obviously don't waste your type on anyone you dislike.

It sounds like you'd have better luck just going to Comic Cons and having fun. I'm middle aged and have no clue. I'm hoping going back to university will help, since I think I'd be more comfortable with an academic than with someone in business or the professions. If I wanted to meet STEM types in general I'd try Scottish Country Dancing, which I grew up with and is nerd central, but I had bad experiences with dancers growing up so I'm not sure if I could cope. Having more specific criteria than…

I had a roommate once who was persuaded to date someone who wasn't her type, and ended up really happy. Sometimes we're single because our type doesn't really suit us, and there are guys who do but it hasn't occurred to us to check them out. For me, when I realized I hadn't considered a couple of types of men (because they didn't leer at me so I assumed they weren't interested or were gay), and had only dated guys I definitely wasn't compatible with, personality wise, it explained a lot. I don't…

Back in the 1990s, The Rules spared me from further bad relationships. They didn't get me good ones, because I had to do a lot of work on myself, but they definitely helped me set healthier boundaries. I wish I had found them (and Mars and Venus on a Date, and Too Good To Leave, Too Bad To Stay) a decade earlier.

Sensate focus is described in one of Masters & Johnson's books (can't remember title) and I've seen it elsewhere too. The more recent description I saw said one person touches the other person's hands to start with, and touches them in a way that the toucher enjoys, but slowly enough that the touched person can keep up/cope/enjoy. You take turns, and over time/multiple sessions, go everywhere, with genitals coming last. It's supposed to be a way of immersing both people in sensory experiences wi…

25 is pretty young. There's still a lot about the world you won't be able to understand yet, so your career may be far in your future when you know more. At your age (and you're Canadian) you can be a working tourist, see the world. Think of it as continuing education. It may be easier in the short term to just do what other people are doing, but it the long run extending your education (formal/informal) may be the way to go. As for me, I'm on disability, but am trying to get into academia, beca…

Did you originally post two links to this blog? I followed two links two days ago and finally read it all yesterday. It also seems to be helping me deal with things that happene…

Emotional neglect made me a sitting duck for a really bad relationship when I was 22. This guy was the first guy I can remember looking at me like he saw me and liked me. He was really messed up though, and treated me badly. It was extremely painful for me because I was starving for affection and no one else really wanted to connect with me. I hurt for decades, and it wasn't until a psychic described him and told me to contact him, that I got over it. A week of emails and I knew we simply weren'…

You could do sensate focus/sensate touching first. It's a therapy technique used for this sort of thing. There's a risk you will push yourself to do something you're not ready for because you think there's something wrong with you if you don't. I've been there. I don't know what the answer is because I haven't figured it out yet.

Many years ago, Marilyn vos Savant was doing press for a book she wrote, and she mentioned that it was hard for her to meet men because of how intimidated they were by her intelligence (she had the world record IQ score back when Guinness Book of Records included IQ scores). I remember a newspaper article about her where she's posing looking very attractive while saying this in the text. After these interviews, Robert Jarvik of artificial heart fame contacted her and they've been together ever s…

My first boyfriend, I happened to mention that hobbits give gifts on their birthdays instead of receiving them, and so he bought me something for his birthday. I think it was two stuffed animals with their arms around each other. We hadn't been together for very long (less than a month?), and the relationship died a natural death by the end of the summer. Three months to the point where I knew it wasn't going anywhere (but didn't know I was allowed to end it - I thought you had to make relations…

There isn't anything wrong with wanting to be comfortable. I suspect that HVM tend to make better employees/employers and may do better on average in the workplace than LVM. But I'm from an old money family and I can tell you that inherited privilege can allow LVM to be successful, because they've got a head start (education, inheritance, social polish). And of course psychopathy can lead to success in some high paying fields. So it depends. You won't find too many HVM in the underclass, though.…

Anna Bey of School of Affluence (on YouTube) talks about this in a bunch of videos. She breaks rich men down into different categories and what each type of rich man is likely looking for. I think she also said that it's easiest to meet them through mutual friends. If you have loads of money you can always sign up for her online finishing school. Or you could just read relevant library books. But if you want to marry up you need to polish up so you're the kind of person he's comfortable taking h…

I've seen research describing how men are more likely to help people in situations that involve strangers in public spaces (e.g. police, fire, ambulance, search and rescue) while women are more likely to help people in private personal situations.

I'm not sure he did have access to lots of other HVW. Aristocratic women generally don't want to marry royals because of how difficult it is for them. Any woman old enough for him is going to realize how difficult a life it is. Maybe she figured it couldn't be any worse than show biz. Note: I'm not saying that she isn't a HVW. I don't know her and don't know if she is or not.

Yes. I discovered The Rules in the mid-90s when the books came out, and they were a complete game-changer. The only problem I had with them is they explained what to do/not to do, but not so much why, or how to tell if you even want the man. I got why The Rules worked from Mars and Venus on a Date. Too Good To Leave, Too Bad To Stay is also a mid-90s classic, with 36 diagnostic questions. I don't know if Why Men Love Bitches is better or not because I only heard of it yesterday.
