Well its a bit of a catch 22. She might not be ready to meet in person til you've chatted a bit, but you don't want to drag the online side out too long or your scenario will inevitably play out. It's difficult to build attraction over FB, but you can certainly build comfort. Especially moving from an online contact to meeting in person, an hour or so of talking about current events, music, movies, etc can go a long way towards breaking the ice. That way you can skip the whole "get to know you" conversation when you meet up, and get straight to enjoying each other's company.

If you have an awesome/funny story involving an ex-girlfriend, don't be afraid to use it. But make sure you refer to her as a female friend or "this girl I knew in high school". If the story is sexual in nature, then I probably would be a bit more careful about telling it at all.

One point that I thought was important. Paraphrasing, "don't go out with an agenda." By that he means, don't go out with the mentality that you're trying to get laid. Just like you know when a stranger is coming up to you to ask for something, girls know when you're coming up to them with certain intentions.

Cock Block 1: You really should try and bounce to a second venue before the bar closes. It's a good compliance test if you can get her to go to another bar, club, or somewhere for food with you. Next step after that is to invite her back to your place for whatever excuse you choose. Send her one more text on Tuesday or Wednesday offering to plan something for that weekend. If she still doesn't respond, you should probably let it go. Not sure if I would have agreed to drive 2 hrs just to keep hanging out with her. Granted, you did have some success, but maybe next time just get her number and set something up on your own terms.

Sounds like you got pretty luckly (seeing her once at work, she happens to go to the same gym as you, and possibly has similar interests) but at least you did a good job capitalizing on it. My #1 recommendation is to get over her and just accept your friendship status. If she's that awesome just be glad you're still friends with her at this point. At the very least find a different girl to go after for awhile. Best case scenario you get yourself a girlfriend. Worst case scenario you make your other friend a little jealous and maybe get her to assess the risk of losing you to some other chick.

In the future, maybe you should run your game at one place and bring your dates to a 2nd location? Back to your question. If HB9 questions it at all, just be honest. Say you're out there meeting people and having fun. If she's ok with that and still wants to see you, great. Its probably easier to use the "you buy the first round, I'll get the next" on your birthday. Something like "Hey its my birthday, are you going to buy me a drink?" If she says yes, great. If she says no reply: "How about you get this one and I'll get the next." That means as long as you don't massively fuck up she'll stick around for that second round to make her money back. So milk that first round for all its worth.

I totally agree with you on this one OP. I'm not one for loud bars/clubs either. Fortunately there are some good alternatives to these places. "Dive" bars. These are much more low key, usually not blasting dance music, with the added benefit that they usually have a much better selection of beer. Not only is fitness going to make you look better (assuming you also maintain a healthy diet) you're going to feel way better too. My one piece of advice if you're going to start weightlifting: don't ignore the legs and core/abs. Nothing looks sillier than beefy arms/chest with a flabby waist and skinny legs.
