I'm pretty sure I'm attractive to women. I've been eating right and working out for a long time. The last girl I dated (very briefly) was crazy about my body. I've upgraded my style. When I visit the city, I get looks. It's just new to me, I don't really know how to exploit it fully yet, and my social skills leave much to be desired. At the very least I'll get a lot more opportunities to practice than I do here.

In my mind, I'm still a 250 lb weirdo who hides behind and chews on his bangs and wears video game t-shirts. I havent chased and scored a girl I wanted since I was a teenager, and she broke my heart. I've had four relationships and a handful of hookups in the time since, all of which were initiated by the female. Pretty much MGTOW most of my life. I don't know what happened, but something changed. Biological clock or something. So I did the work, but my self image hasn't caught up with reality y…

You need John Flansburgh. You may know this because you're a musician, but there's a band called They Might Be Giants, that's been around since the 80's. It's two guys basically, John Linnell and John Flansburgh. JL is a shy, socially awkward musical genius, and JF is a mediocre guitarist and songwriter with a gigantic personality and stage presence. Together, they've created a band with a small but loyal following that's lasted over three decades. If they had never met, JL would be writing amaz…

You don't ask. You tell. Don't ask her if she wants to do shit with you. Tell her the two of you are doing something at some time. Don't make it a request. I tried this at first. My first attempt at asking her out was "come over for game of thrones tonight", her reply was "I'm busy tonight, but I would love for you to take me out on a date." So how do I tactfully say, no I don't want to take you out, I just want to take you home and fuck you? Less texting. Use text only for logistics. The more y…

That was harsh, but you're right. I have absolutely no interest in LTR'ing this girl, but I'm clearly taking it in that direction. I guess it's the only way I know to relate to women. I don't really drink, I don't like being around drunk people, and I can count the number of times I've been to a bar on one hand, but I absolutely love to cook. GoT is the only show I watch on TV, she's a huge fan but doesn't have HBO. Seemed like a good way to get her over to fuck, and I probably would have if I h…

I'm not fat, but I still very much have the frame of a fat person. That's why my post sounds like a fat person wrote it. I'm doing the things you advise, work out and developing hobbies. I have to analyze my social interactions, I'm an engineer type and that's the only tool I have for understanding the world. Through analysis I've transformed my body and my mind. Now my soul needs work, and you're right, analysis may not be the best tool, but it's my sharpest tool. You're right, I'm not an alpha…

He's really charming and likeable to anyone not smart enough to see through his bullshit. Ergo, girls like him a lot. He's pretty smart, and can bullshit pretty well, but he can't bullshit me. But the point is, yeah he's not annoying to people generally, just to me, and the other really intelligent guy in the group. I've thought about trying to team up with him in ways before. He's too young to really be a wingman for me. I've told him that if he came up with any good business plans, I would hel…

Thanks man. I'm really starting to feel power I never knew I had welling up from my subconscious. It's amazing and feels great

You're right, I'm the newest person in the group actually, but it feels like "mine". I'm the strongest physically and intellectually, and the group pretty much defers to me. He's the only one that really challenges me. I feel like I do have the authority to exile him from the group and that no one else would challenge me. In fact, others in the group have expressed a desire not to have him around. And yes, they're all pretty dumb, and yes I could do better if I lived in a real city, but I live i…

Thanks! The title was deliberate. We do work out and hang out together quite often. My SMV is much higher than his, so there's a slight imbalance where materially the relationship is more beneficial for him, but I do gain from observing a much younger alpha. His social skills are much higher than mine, and I do learn from him. I'm much more intelligent and experienced than him, and I've tried to share that with him as much as I can. So it's definitely not like I don't get any value from him, but…

Yeah man, it's amazing success. You don't understand how awkward I am. I'm not bad looking, and I have some measure of worldly success, but I am really terrified of people, and especially of women. I went the last six months since the end of my last ltr with basically no interaction with women at all. So yeah, I consider hanging out with 3 girls, making them comfortable and laughing and not doing anything stupid and awkward or uncomfortable to be a resounding success. So, when I read this reddit…

I'm in kind of a weird situation where my confidence level is far below my objective SMV. It's not like I'm super attracted to them, but they don't intimidate me like more attractive women, so it's easier for me to learn. I've been in a series of long, shitty LTR's and my experience with women is fairly limited. I'm literally trying to start from the bottom and work my way up.

Read No More Mister Nice Guy. There's a section in there about being monogamous to your mother. This was a big issue for me. Before TRP she was very present in my life, and a huge interfering factor in my female relationships despite living on the opposite coast. She called me many times a week, sometimes multiple times a day. I never talked to her directly about backing off, but I started ignoring her calls more, being more aloof and less invested when I do talk to her, and I think she figured …

You've been great, man. I didn't mean to give the impression that I feel like I've arrived. My bf% is around 15, I'm shooting for 12. At 38, for the first time in my life, I have a visible (but not well defined) six pack. I still have goals. Finance is good so I'm just putting that on hold while I try to improve my body and social skills. Was only able to find an audio copy of that book, but I'll listen to it for a couple days. Is it ok if I PM you in the future in case I have questions while I'…

I wasn't trying to brag, it was an objective description of my life circumstances. I included the positives, and I included the negatives. Maybe I didn't emphasize the negatives enough. I know it doesn't sound realistic for a person with absolutely no social prowess to have such an ideal life situation. But it's true. I live in a small town I didn't grow up in, I don't know anyone or have any influence. My only friends are kids half my age that I smoke weed with. So yeah, I don't have to work, I…

Also, I would guess that my SMV is around 6 or 6.5. I own a house outright, i have no debt and a large savings and haven't had to work in over ten years. I'm handsome and physically fit and I dress well. I know that sounds higher than 6, but I have to deduct points for just being awkward and lacking confidence. My social skills aren't up to par with my appearance in any way. Her husband is a short ugly guy who murders chickens for ten bucks an hour. I win.

Great advice. I am a shitbag, but truthfully I didn't expect to get her here so easily. I just wanted to practice talking to girls, something I don't really do enough of. The tools you guys have here are mindblowingly powerful, and I had no idea what I was getting myself into when I started the conversation. The fact that I took it almost all the way on my first try is absolutely amazing to me. Thanks a lot, I'll keep posting!

That might have been part of the problem, actually. I had drank two glasses of wine, and was just settling in to go to sleep when she hit me up and wanted to come over. She noticed that I was a little drunk immediately, and that might have put her on the defensive from the get go. I tried to offer her a glass but she declined.

I don't feel like it was a waste of time. I wanted practice, I got practice. I really was amazed that it even went as far as it did. Now I have some confidence that the techniques I've learned here actually work. But your advice is sound, I'll try to add in some contrived spontaneity in the future, thanks

ASD is autism spectrum disorder. SadGenius with no social skills who smokes a lot of weed is kind of a funny stereotype for people at the higher end of the spectrum, thats why I guessed that. Includes a lot of programmers and reclusive ivory tower academic types.

Don't try to quit during a potentially stressful period in your life! (ie, right before exams). If you're really serious about it, wait until life is quiet. Based on your user name, I'm gonna make a couple of assumptions. You probably are currently or have suffered depression. You may have an ASD. You may have PTSD to some degree as the result of a traumatic childhood. If I'm pretty close on these, we probably have a lot in common. I'm probably about twice as old as you, and I smoke every day. I…

I'm in kind of the same situation as you. Middle aged, recovering from oneitis, but I've been a monk pretty much my entire life. I feel like monk mode is something you should never leave 100%. There's no reason you can't isolate, meditate, deal with something in your life or personality that needs improvement every single day. You can even be in monk mode while you're out with people. I have to do this a lot because my social skills are poor, and to actively work on them I have to be self reflec…
