How many of you bought your wife out of the house?I kept my retirement account and let her keep the house. I figured I’d rather have the compounding interest now and figure out housing later… | /r/Divorce_Men | 11/06/26 11:44 PM
What the fuck! I just inherited a little over 2.0MAnd if you do get the money before anything is final, do not place it into any accounts you both have shared at any time. | /r/Divorce_Men | 24/02/25 09:31 PM
I had to tell my son we were separatingHang in there. I delivered the news to my son when he was 10, with my ex sitting on the couch next to him, saying nothing. I could barely get the words out, felt like I just broke his world. He yelled at us, was angry. Two years out now and he and I have a great relationship and it’s his new normal, he’s actually doing really well with it. Keep being a good dad, don’t disrespect your wife or talk or about her at all around him, and it’ll turn out just fine. I promise. | /r/Divorce_Men | 30/12/24 11:18 PM
The Positives of Divorce? For the first year and a half I had a chair, a bed, and some dishes. No TV (watched everything on my phone), no nothing. Then I realized that this wasn’t how I wanted to live and starting watching FB marketplace and Craigslist and started to make it my space, with my stuff, the way I wanted to decorate and live. It’s my space now and I love being there and being single, is pretty damn great. It’s not until then that I realized how much of myself I gave away. | /r/Divorce_Men | 14/12/24 02:55 PM
I'm struggling with not seeking revenge.I get it, I co-parent with mine everyday. I once read “If a poisonous snake bit you, would you spend your time chasing after the snake yelling at it and asking it why it bit you, or would you get yourself to the doctor for the antidote?” You can’t do both at the same time. In the case your “doctor” is the gym, meditation, church, therapy. Don’t chase the snake while you’re dying inside. | /r/Divorce_Men | 03/12/24 05:42 PM
An unexpected benefit…As much as mine complained about the house not being kept neat, and things not being put away where they should be, she was clearly the biggest offender. | /r/Divorce_Men | 29/11/24 01:34 PM
1st Thanksgiving Alone EverIt sucks, I feel ya. I keep telling myself today is one day, and there’s 364 more in a year. You got this 👊🏻 | /r/Divorce_Men | 28/11/24 05:40 PM
1st Thanksgiving Alone EverWe always lived closer, like hundreds of miles closer, to her family. So that just became the tradition. Now the kids are of the age that’s tradition for them so I don’t want to break that. | /r/Divorce_Men | 28/11/24 03:38 PM
1st Thanksgiving Alone EverI went through the same thing, being told I’m cold because I’m not bending over backwards anymore. Couldn’t believe it. Sounds like you have a good plan for tomorrow. Keep your head up. | /r/Divorce_Men | 28/11/24 04:22 AM
The next relationship…And dogs. | /r/Divorce_Men | 28/11/24 01:51 AM
Financial fuckryI don’t mean to hit you when you’re down, but you need to stop playing the victim card. At 35 you didn’t think a company could sue you (along with other means like garnishment) to obtain money from you when you legally owed them money? They didn’t get to be a billion dollar company by sending out mock lawsuits. It doesn’t go away because you choose to believe it’s not real or fair. | /r/Divorce_Men | 08/08/24 04:39 PM
Worst mistake of my life100% agree! Not for the world. You don’t technically need to be married to have kids though LOL | /r/Divorce_Men | 05/08/24 03:37 AM
Splitting BillsGoing through the same thing. I added our total monthly income between the two of us and figured out the % of the total each of us being home. We added up our total monthly bills for the housing and the kids. If I bring home 60% of the income then I’m paying 60% of the household bills and she does the remaining 40%. The rest of our individual incomes we use as necessary, individually. | /r/Divorce_Men | 03/08/24 05:27 PM
Has anyone ever asked for the value of their spouses ring to be considered in the assets and split 50/50?Thank you. Honestly my thoughts were the same, to just move on. Thanks 👊🏻 | /r/Divorce_Men | 06/07/24 03:59 AM
EasterI’m driving back from my in-laws, soon to be ex-in-laws. Same boat as you. I’d love to be able to continue to do holidays, but it’s just uncomfortable. It’s awkward. It’s hard to do holidays like we did as a family when it’s not the same anymore. I can’t fake it like she does. Sometimes I feel like she’s not faking and it doesn’t bother her. Hang in there. | /r/Divorce_Men | 31/03/24 11:04 PM
Won a work tripI haven’t even won a trip and I’ve thought about doing this! | /r/Divorce_Men | 14/02/24 10:50 PM
Bac together..Has she done any personal therapy? Have you both done any couples therapy? Until both of these things happen (her working on herself first) I wouldn’t even entertain the conversation of getting married again. | /r/Divorce_Men | 17/01/24 05:48 PM
Legal Separation vs. DivorceThat’s good to know. I appreciate your comments! | /r/Divorce_Men | 16/01/24 03:24 AM
Legal Separation vs. DivorceLive in Wisconsin. We actually work well as parents together and support each other. We have our house and an apartment and she and I rotate out of the apartment so the kids can stay in the house. I would do a divorce but neither of us can afford to buy the other one out of the house and I don’t want the kids to go between apartments. Ideally I would separate financials and go on our way with those things, we keep all assets earned after the separation, but I don’t want the house involved in tho… | /r/Divorce_Men | 16/01/24 02:01 AM
4th weekFind one or two people your close with that you share anything with, and that are ok just listening. Sometimes you’ll want to talk, other times you won’t want to at all. But definitely identify 1-2 people that you can be completely candid with. | /r/Divorce_Men | 13/01/24 06:13 PM
Unsure how to move forward or if the situation is salvageableI mean, yeah, she needs to be vulnerable and open up otherwise it won’t work. You can’t fix anyone. They need to want to help themselves. Sorry. I’m going through a similar thing. | /r/Divorce_Men | 27/12/23 12:56 AM
Unsure how to move forward or if the situation is salvageableSee if she’s willing to go to couples therapy? If she is then you take the lead and set everything up if it’s something you want to save. Clearly something is going on and it’ll be best for both of you to have someone help you navigate those emotionally charged conversations. | /r/Divorce_Men | 26/12/23 10:14 PM
How do you cope with the depression? Thanks! I do also want to get to the gym so I know I’ll have to start adding more in. Just, no appetite right now. | /r/Divorce_Men | 18/12/23 03:03 PM
How do you cope with the depression?Nice to hear someone else mention this. I’ve been “depressed” over this separation for two weeks. Basically surviving on water, coconut water, and some protein (meat, almonds, etc..). I’m sure my daily intake is under 500 calories. But I’ve lost 20lbs, no bloat, and I can see abs again. Going to take this as the time to drop soda, sugar, bad carbs, and just go with it. | /r/Divorce_Men | 18/12/23 05:52 AM
Where do you actually meet other women?LOL How? | /r/Divorce_Men | 17/12/23 02:29 AM
I fucked upHahaha I know. A period was needed in there. | /r/Divorce_Men | 23/10/23 02:25 AM
I fucked upValue of the house is $200k. They live paycheck to paycheck. | /r/Divorce_Men | 23/10/23 02:23 AM
Wife asked for separation, wants to keep the house for the kids and I stay there. We’re 2 months into this and so far no issues. Actually it’s been good for us and we’re better now than before. | /r/Divorce_Men | 26/10/22 02:25 AM
