Hey Man - I can relate to this. My stbxw has made it a bit easier for me even though she's more or less doing the same thing in that she was so vile to me that it doesn't matter how externally attractive she may be all I can see is the ugly-inside, like a reverse Shallow Hal (if that reference lands). My ex was and has been so mean to me I've resorted to a hardcore gray rock approach. I barely even look at her when I pick up my daughter. I give quick succinct answers to texts or emails and when …

That's awful. I'm sorry you're having to deal with that. Likely it's coming from her own sense of guilt and shame and all kinds of other stuff she's dealing with... which doesn't make any of it feel better. Talking this through w/ a therapist would be invaluable. I'd lastly recommend the gray rock method. That's what I've been doing. And I have a somewhat similar experience as you. Try to envision your ex as a gray rock; the most boring thing you can imagine. Provide as little response/correspon…

Take a deep breathe. I know it sucks. I've been there. To start, make sure to review this with your attorney. You have the right to live and you can't be forced to pay money you simply don't have. Second, if she's cohabiting with another man that changes the entire dynamic of alimony. Really, really need to make sure your attorney knows everything.

I know you said that motivation is tough to do anything. I signed up for multiple boxing classes, like soul cycle but for kickboxing. It's an awesome workout, punching stuff constructively is an amazing release, and having a handful of instructors/desk check-in ppl who albeit are paid to be excited to see you and they want repeat business but it is really nice to ward off depression by having people happy to see you and encouraging you. Other than that, vent away here. I know I have. And my situ…

OK DivorceRecoveryMan... I think my light-hearted rant had more to do with my total disappointment in the app world combined with an uneasiness in how to actually meet people in real life apart from an alcoholic setting seen through the lense of honesty (sexual frustration). Moreover, leading a sober lifestyle imo complicates how one (me) interacts with the world. I'd love to just meet new people and without regard for my pride get shot down, it's just not happening. And not only is it not happe…

Where's your hunting man spirit dude? Assassinated by clinical depression. Get your head in the game! But my head might have brain damage from the narcissistic cycle of abuse (google that $hit). Do you want a girl just to fall over with pants off? Yes, please (/Austin Powers voice) You have the time. Put some effort in. You're right. I am, though, better today than I was yesterday and the day before that, etc. I'm tired of it all though. Life feels very hard. Thanks for the input though, for rea…

I genuinely appreciate your input. I'm putting in effort but, like a moron, expecting bigger and better results faster. Hell, I even bought an Alpha Jaw. In all honesty I'm only 6 weeks into actually trying to get into seriously good shape. I've always been thin but lately that kinda fat-thin ya know? I've dropped some lbs and can see the beginning of improvement(s).

Not approaching enough people is right. Finding the venue to do so isn't ideal though, hence why I had such high hopes for the apps. I'm 345 days sober so hanging out at bars isn't for me. Not to get too high on my high horse but American capitalism has all but rooted out the concept of a Third Place (a place that isn't home and isn't work). My drinking was an outpouring (pun!) of my sense of wanting to be cool; to be in the "in crowd". That's how the binge drinking started in college. After and…

I'll bank this positive advice. Thanks. It's hard to not be frustrated by everything because everything sucks.

That's fair. And 90% is hyperbole but it's not toooooo far off. And loosening the standard sounds good in theory, but x multiplied by zero is zero so apply the loosening and x(1.25) multiplied by zefro is still zero. My aim is more of a commentary on what women say they want and when presented with that do nothing.

For the entirety of our marriage we've had separate personal checking accounts and a "joint account". Everything, the mortgage, all the bills were taken from the joint account. We still have and I see it as an easy middle-ground. Having my work directly deposit the money child support to her makes me feel like my wages are being garnished, like I'm a deadbeat.

That's a totally fair thing to say/suggest/think. While no where near the degree that women likely feel, men (imo) feel a societal pressure to get married. It's on the growing-up check list. I think what's not nearly known well enough is that marriage isn't for everyone and that in many instances, it's not great at all. And, in my case, kinda terrible and mentally and emotionally demeaning. It's hard to get your life back after a divorce, I think we should just let this guy list stuff however he…

it's funny you mention jiu jitsu. I was looking into maybe doing something like that. I think, though, that I need to build up some time in the gym before giving that a try. but, yeah, thanks!!

The apps make zero sense to me. I mean, look, I don't have the greatest opinion of the opposite sex right now, one of their representatives kinda sorta ruined my last 15 years, but what are they thinking on these apps. Look, I'm not Price Charming but I'm no gargoyle either - a solid 7-ish. But I'll "like" lets use a round # 100 females and get 2 or 3 responses. And it's not like I'm getting a myriad of requests coming my way from the rest. And my profile is honest, that I'm looking for a real r…

yeah, I hear you. Sports bars w/ 4 TVs to watch 4 different sporting events while drinking 4 or 5 7% IPAs was my drug of choice. It's how I basically would turn off as a human being. Not the best place for me to go nowadays. But to your point, I was getting into a decent habit of yoga classes, got a new tattoo so I needed to wait 2 weeks to go back to let the skin heal and my inner depression demons got the best of me and I haven't made it back.

Those are the ones I'm on. It's such a weird experience. Definitely agree: Hinge > Bumble. But I haven't cracked through to finding any actual connections or anything. Good on you though!

This post really resonates with me. I continue to be surprised by all of the things I didn't know. In my case I firmly believe I'm dealing with narcissistic victim syndrome and I don't really care how infrequent or misdiagnosed narcissism really is. Most of the listicles I find, and to your specific point there's no central place to learn most of this, are so spot on I can't believe it. For example, this one, 5 Ways a Narcissistic Wife Treats her Husband, hit me so hard I teared up while reading…

Similar experience. I loved drinking beer. And I sought it out to "turn my brain off". I didn't think I had a problem although I knew I was a heavy drinker. My wife made a similar claim and my attorney suggested I get an assessment at a well respected outpatient program. That assessment yielded a "diagnosis" of alcoholism. I was gobsmacked and furious. I was in the middle of a 30 day break suggested by our last marriage counselor. I never had any legal issues or DUIs. But I entered their 16 week…

thanks pal. we're probably headed to court. my STBXW, I don't think, has the capacity to negotiate. She wants the house, the fancy car, 1/2 of everything else. My very experienced attorney says he's never seen such a one-sided proposal. My attorney's team did the math. If we were to accept what they're offering it'd be a 76/24 split in her favor and that's not mentioning the ludicrous alimony request which includes a claim that I'm underemployed (I was laid off at the beginning of '23 as a SaaS …

Thanks pal. And likewise. I'm really in the middle of it all right now and surely should have done this years ago. My wife was/is a difficult person to love. And I only feel comfortable saying that b/c in truth that's a quote from her own mother. It's popular to call your divorcing spouse a narcissist, it's like a watered down insult nowadays but my therapist (who I've seen for 8ish years and has worked with both me and my STBXW in the past) has given me the green light to say so. To let me try …

That's right. I should do that. Pride can get in the way. I can't expect them to read my mind but maybe I'm hoping for more. As we sent our Merry Christmas texts around, mine was that I couldn't wait to get it over with. And those of us that are local met up for a Xmas Eve brunch event, there I shared about my experience; how it (the negotiation, if you can even call it that), has been strained, how having to temporarily live with my folks has been less than great, how I'm proud of soberness but…

They're not friends w/ her nor are their wives. Cordial and all that but not friends. It's not a case of suddenly stopping talking to me per se. I think my disappointment is that we talk a good game, that we've known each other for so long, etc. They have their own lives of course and I doubt my record on checking in with them during their difficult times is perfect but I have made an effort.
