I would argue the interconnected nature makes a hard collapase much more terrifying. Before, if the chinese economy collapased say, there would only be minor ramifications for the rest of the world.. These days, well look at 1929. A bunch of pieces of paper in one country were suddenly valueless, and that caused other countries econonies to suffer. Are you in decent shape? Rock climbing. Find a local gym, the starting gear will probably cost you less than 300 bucks (shoes, harness, chalk bag). See tons of improvement, get great physical activity, and its fun as balls. Most gyms will rent you gear, and you can even take classes if you're going in totally blind and alone.
