Ah, thanks. Was the off camera yell that sounded like "you can't hit a woman" based on my complete lack of any German... beyond "SHIZA!"
/r/PussyPassDenied01/06/20 06:13 PM

My German is rusty, but I'm pretty sure she was screaming "you can't hit a woman!" as he attempted to lift her onto her pedestal.

Women can deny a pussy pass. Feminists refer to it as internalized misogyny though.

I had a female friend growing up who was not someone I would fuck with. Definitely a rough n' tough girl. Told me she'd have my back if anything like this ever occurred. Never happened, but that flurry of uppercuts looks like what I'd expect to have resulted.

"I understand that if someone throws a punch - whether they're a girl or a boy - then they deserve to be hit back. But he started it and I needed to defend myself." "Needed" to defend herself. She was already outside with every direction in the world she could have walked, and instead she chose to walk at the bouncer and take a swing. That's not defending yourself, that's retaliation.

Female privilege. The security to be able to hit someone and turn your back on them expecting them to A) not hit you, or B) someone else to defend you if they try to retaliate.

Not exactly something you can get statistics on unless you just do a survey of duration of suicidal thoughts, which of course you can't do with people who have successfully completed a suicide in order to extrapolate how long they considered it before doing it. Maybe start an awareness campaign to fill out a survey and attach it to your suicide note?
/r/MensRights14/07/16 07:43 PM

The statistics for women are actually drawn from Non-suicidal self-injury (NSSI) statistics. I wrote a piece on this a couple years ago: https://eyeofwoden.wordpress.com/2014/03/27/debunking-suicides-an-addendum/ ***“In 2010, the most recent year for which data is available, 464,995 people visited a hospital for injuries due to self-harm behavior, suggesting that approximately 12 people harm themselves (not necessarily intending to take their lives) for every reported death by suicide. Together,…

Out one side of their mouth they say toxic masculinity prevents men from discussing their feelings and being vulnerable. Then in the other side they drink out of their "male tears" cup
/r/MensRights14/07/16 05:52 PM

Argument tends to be "that's just toxic masculinity, which feminism tries to combat!" Maybe calling men's behavior toxic isn't conducive to their mental well-being either. Also, what are women's high numbers of attempted suicides? Toxic masculinity, or will they finally accept the notion of toxic femininity?

I told TF I was surprised he didn't reference "Dollhouse" a show literally about brainwashed and refridgerated people (men and women, but focused on women mostly) who were hired for sex/assassinations, whatever. He responded that he didn't have much knowledge of it and did the video in just a week. I recommended it to him for future info.

"Attempts" are taken from NSSI reports at hospitals, so may not have even been suicide attempts. At least that was all I could find when I delved into "attempts": http://eyeofwoden.wordpress.com/2014/03/27/debunking-suicides-an-addendum/

Sure, if you go by percentage increased... "sexual crime against women or girls, which rose from 485 to 624. Sexual crime against males rose from 27 to 42" If you go by overall numbers that's 139 cases for females, 15 for guys.

I spoke at length with the authour. Obviously I'm not included as it focuses on women, but I had a good feeling about her. The best thing was that she would have conversations with attendees, rather than simply asking them questions to spin their answers later. I spoke with her via phone at home too, and put her on speaker with my partner, since she wanted women's perspectives, and was interesting for her to be able to speak to a woman dating someone involved in addressing men's issues.

That's my position. It was that he was making it out like I meant anyone who read AVFM, which I did not. I told him my response was a "drop the mic and shake hands" thing. I'll volley once to clear up my position, but that's it. Paul felt it was worth posting to AVFM. I haven't gone to read the comments yet to see how it went over. And how am I causing them? I worked at an HIV agency that obviously served mostly men, and primarily gay men. They had pamphlets available for women in DV situations, but none for LGBT people. Guess what I did? I got pamphlets printed up that highlighted that IPV is not a man on woman issue, and that it can and does happen to members of the LGBT community. I volunteer with CAFE. Good for feminists... I didn't say be a feminist. I said use the feminist tool-kit that social work gave him. It can be easily applied to men, they just don't do it, particularly marxist feminists who make it a man vs woman thing instead of a class issue. They make men a dominant class and women a subordinate class, which ignores intersectionality, which they would then incorrectly apply anyway. I could just as easily privileged groups also gain a status of "other." Do you not feel like some for…
/r/MensRights03/07/14 03:02 PM

The OP studied social work, not philosophy. Now phrase what you just said above in something you can relate to someone in an easier way than "Well if you look at the overlapping and compounding paradigms of a person's being". Not exactly sound-bite worthy, even if it means the same thing. Also likely to go over people's heads.
/r/MensRights03/07/14 02:56 PM
2

So social work causes those problems? Often I feel I'm just trying to plug up the wounds that society has caused. And what is it you do that is fixing the problems? What solutions are you offering to fix what you deem to be problems caused by social work?
/r/MensRights03/07/14 02:32 PM

I give credit where credit is due. It really came about as a tool with black feminism, and we know how much WOC like feminism: "It is obvious that many women have appropriated feminism to serve their own ends, especially those white women who have been at the forefront of the movement" -Bell Hooks, Ain't I A Woman?
/r/MensRights03/07/14 02:28 PM

So you're agreeing with feminists who say men are in power and ignoring instances where men are not the ones in power? i.e. where society oppresses men as a class? Sorry 'bout your blinders, Texas Toast. You act like intersectionality is a set of rules and not a way of examining things. Under intersectionality I would point to the large number of elderly men (there's two identities) who commit suicide. How many do so to "protect" their family from them being a financial and emotional burden in t…

My work in the HIV community, helping people living with HIV (mostly men) achieve their greatest potential? Yeah... I'm clearly brutally abusing them. Because Marx never applied conflict theory to men... "The history of all hitherto existing society is the history of class struggles. Freeman and slave, patrician and plebeian, lord and serf, guild-master and journeyman, in a word, oppressor and oppressed, stood in constant opposition to one another, carried on an uninterrupted, now hidden, now open fight, a fight that each time ended, either in a revolutionary re-constitution of society at large, or in the common ruin of the contending classes.…

If you think it only allows you to look at someone as a single entity, instead of a complex individual of many identities, you're doing it wrong. "Intersectionality (or intersectionalism) is the study of intersections between forms or systems of oppression, domination or discrimination. An example is black feminism, which argues that the experience of being a black female cannot be understood in terms of being black, and of being female, considered independently, but must include the interaction…

/r/MensRights03/07/14 03:40 AM

To grasp men's rights/issues, just turn your feminist lens towards men. As a social worker myself, I tend to look at men via the concept of intersectionality, and how different factors and identities intersect uniquely for men. Myth of male power challenges a lot of "men as oppressor" dynamics and will allow you to better see their identities of oppression.

Not even what I said from what I recall. I was talking about how I like engaging on r/feMRAdebates, and how people should talk with those outside the echo chamber. I said something to the effect of "and ignore the radicals", i.e. the people who troll with nothing but predetermined man/woman hate. One's candle does not get brighter by blowing out someone else's.

Know what else can provide cleanliness? Soap and water. I've heard that. I'm usually of the mind "you'd achieve your desires by telling it to a wall". If you don't want my opinion, or you don't want me to try and fix it, then there is no need for me to hear it... unless of course I'm your therapist and you're paying me.

To be honest, I believe it's something I read as a kid in Michael Chriton's "Rising Sun", so I take it with a grain of salt, but the statement is valid, whether or not it is true of Japanese culture or not. A quick google search turned up this quote from the movie version: "The Japanese have a saying, "Fix the problem, not the blame." Find out what's fucked up and fix it. Nobody gets blamed. We're always after who fucked up. Their way is better."

It pushes against the status quo, and forces people to think. For feminism, it challenges their ideology (same as atheists vs christians) For men, either they are bandwagon feminists, or it challenges their societally ingrained viewpoints that they shouldn't have or admit to having issues.

Here in Canada, 80% of homeless people 55 years old and older are male. It is definitely MORE of a male problem, but it is one of those cases where addressing the issue for men would help homeless women as well.

Which is why I posted it here, so :P. Often we hear hear about how much kinder and gentler women are. How much things would change with women in charge. Often people point to how men are still sent to war under female leaders (i.e. Thatcher) Here we see how they are still duplicitous and definitely do not act caring and motherly, as the talking heads assumed she would (though she did throw being a mother out there as a sheild/airbag). I couldn't make it past the paragraph that blew the issue hugely out of proportion by claiming an 800% increase (which could be as little as 1 woman in jail becoming 8 women in jail in 30 years), with such a shoddy source for her "research" of the topic. I think she's just been watching Orange and wanted to make it an issue.

I find it more disturbing when we're told "yeah, but it's men killing them". So it's all about perpetrators and not victims. If we don't address the majority of people who suffer from men's violence, how are we ever going to help the minority?

I wrote an article last night (I have someone editing it) that touched on men and mass murdering, after reading a Ms. Magazine article on how we need to talk about it. I specifically mentioned the privileged groups of men in black male murders, and the rate of suicide in double privileged white men (who also tend to be cishet privliged). Kind of blows up the notion of privilege when men are 5 times as likely to be murdered, and 7 times as likely to commit suicide as women are to be murdered. Foc…

If the parents make the decision, it's not the personal autonomy of the child. In that case, why can't we legalize female genital mutilation if a child's genitals are the property of its parents? That's what it sounds like you're saying to me, afterall. Except there are laws against surgery on female infants genitalia, not males.
/r/MensRights27/03/14 01:56 AM

I would hope its the doctors. To me, its not about the parents, it's about the personal autonomy of the child. Also, how informed is your average parent of circumcision. My mother claims she thought it made it cuter (or so she said once). On the subject of religion. My stance on that, focusing on Judaism, is make it a practice at a kids barmitzvah. That's when he is supposed to be becoming a man, and thus can make the decision on what to do with his manhood (lol, punny!)

I went off track... I would consider myself a gamer. I would say my girlfriend plays games (a casual gamer at best). Because your implying that condoms are solely a man's responsibility. Do they not go inside a woman as much as they go on a man? You never proved me wrong and I didn't twist your words. Women should be responsible for their own protection from STD's and STI's just as they are for pregnancy. It is not solely a man's fault when an undesired outcome results if the woman also did not practice safe sex.
/r/MensRights28/01/14 10:08 PM
5

I hope the irony wasn't lost on him. I would have taken a different angle myself. That yes, boys do need to learn this. That objectification of their bodies, either as sex objects or tools for someone else's profit, is not how they should perceive themselves either.
/r/MensRights25/11/13 10:50 PM
0

Also, shouldn't a woman ensure that a man is doing "his" responsibility? Same as a man should ensure a woman is taking her birth-control, using an IUD, getting her shot, etc.? Oh right, we can't really check those things and just have to take women at their word that they are protecting their men (and themselves) from unwanted pregnancy. We know how often that backfires too.
/r/MensRights25/11/13 10:36 PM
2

If a man is using condoms, are any of those methods required? Don't condoms prevent babies too? In such case, are we removing all the responsibility from women at the same time? A woman should also keep condoms in her drawer if she plans on having men come over. If I could simply keep birth-control pills in my night-stand, I would. Hmmm, maybe I'll staock up on plan B pills instead and just offer them at breakfast.
/r/MensRights25/11/13 10:33 PM
2

Is a pack of condoms not also birth control? Off subject, but if women are responsible for birth control, should responsibility of child rearing not fall on them if a child occurs then? After all, this poster was blaming men for STD's, should we be telling women to keep it in their pants for children?
/r/MensRights22/11/13 07:38 PM
2

So two questions (mostly rhetorical). Since the poster was in regards to heterosexual men acquiring and passing it on, where are they getting it from? If a vagina is more susceptible to acquiring an STD, who should be more responsible in ensuring protection is practiced during sexual intercourse? (personally I would think both should be equally responsible. However, if one is more likely to acquire an STD, through the fault of their organ being more vulnerable or their partner's organ more likel…

In the future, consider rephrasing to "society feels men are responsible for everything" or "society often places responsibility in men". Simply making a blanket statement that men ARE responsible for everything, even though I can sense the dripping sarcasm, does not serve a purpose other than simple cynicism. Feminism would argue that patriarchy feels only men can be responsible and in charge, while at the same time turning around and producing a document such as the poster in this article whic…

I don't believe you're asking the right question. If dicks cause more, women should ensure their partner wraps it before putting it in just as much as men should ensure they wrap it before putting it in a vagina if vagina's cause more. Sexual partner's are equally responsible for ensuring they practice safe-sex. The only time I would place more responsibility on someone is if they KNOW they have something transmittable, particularly if their partner doesn't know. ***Look into serocordant and ser…

It`s a misdirection to say that if 1 in 4 women are assaulted by their partners, that 1 in 4 men (25%) will assault their partners. This is to assume that every man who is abusive is only abusive to one person. Are abusive men that monogamous and committed to their relationships? ***This is just taking their stats as they are, not bothering to challenge them.

As I said in my document, it shouldn't be about percentage this or percentage that. Such cases should be treated on a case by case basis. False reports happen. Rape happens. Both are bad. I acknowledge rape happens more often than purposeful and malicious weaponization of the justice system, but people accused of rape should not be found guilty before they enter the court room, especially just because of their gender.

When someone gives me a statistic, without a source, I just argue it as if it was true. If I cannot argue it, then I will ask for source material. This is akin to how I operate in the mental health field. If someone tells me a story, I don't contradict it. Perception is reality, and I will work with their reality if I can.
/r/MensRights26/09/13 10:46 PM

Statistics are just never concrete for me anyway, so the more stats the better. It's where the median for stats line up that should be of most interest, not the extremes that simply support your thoughts. i.e. when feminists look at reported crime surveys with no understanding of the "dark figure of crime" that criminology understands exists; those crimes that never even make it to being reported to a police officer let alone make it to court.

I wrote this article about a week ago. Self-identified feminists go to MHRM events to protest them, but are supposedly also fighting for men's issues. I go to a reknowned feminist's speech on gender equality (or so they called it) and listen attentively. ”It is not just the right of the person who speaks to be heard, it is the right of everyone in the audience to listen and to hear; and every time you silence somebody, you make yourself a prisoner of your own action. It's not just trans, there are those who would identify as feminist and also be homophobic. In large sweeping movements, there are always going to be people whose views don't sit well with others in the same movement. If someone disagrees with their views, they should say so (like Christians speaking out against the West boro baptists).
