I think this would lead to more vain behaviour. Shouldn't the focus be on accepting yourself, rather than picturing what the rest thinks of you?

I also have a hard time with facial expression. I thought I was conveying a happy, relaxed vibe, while most of the times I was perceived as overly serious. A good test for me is this: when someone looks you up in the eye and holds it, smile. The more you smile, the more people smile back. Try to see what's the least you can smile while getting a smile back (it took much more than I thought it would) Still feels unnatural to me sometimes, though.

I don't agree with those who say you should answer every question with nonsense and basically behave like a child with ADD. However, being a 'serious' person myself, it really helped me to realize I was treating pickup like a task to do or an accomplishment to achieve, while it is much more like a game. You see, as we grow up we are discouraged to play and encouraged to work. And the truth is there's no other point in pickup than having fun. So my advice: relax and do not think about what you wa…

I think you're spot-on. The hardest part about being with old friends is how they can dismantle the very image of yourself you're trying to build. I realized you pick up all these behaviours and attitudes you read about, try them on, some of them fit you, some of them are a stretch, some of them aren't really you, and being with friends is really where you get to see which ones are which.

I'm not saying it shouldn't be done, only that I would be careful about that, fear is a strong feeling

could work, in my opinion talking about murder on a first date is risky and, even when the joke gets across.

I think I see arrangements by conveniency and adoration of popular icons as a different phenomenon than what happens in the brief instant two persons first glance at each other. But you may be right. Looks are of course very important! also quite malleable, so only partly genetic. I don't think you can 'override' everything...

Genetic doesn't mean handsome or pretty and evolution does not care what Vogue magazine thinks is fashionable. Smell plays a large part in attraction, and pheromones are not something you can consciously control. We are of course social animals and not limited to it, but sometimes when a girl rejects you, you're simply not biocompatible and she's wired to reject you. Also, the enviroment when growing up conditions you similarly.

I really think attraction has a strong genetic base, it's just that we grew up in such a twisted society that we have to learn how not to screw it up as adults.

The Sage is occupied with the unspoken and acts without effort. Teaching without verbosity, producing without possessing, creating without regard to result, claiming nothing, the Sage has nothing to lose. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wu_wei

I never said that. But I don't want a car or a fancy house. I'd much rather have a farmer girl who knows her way around a toolbox than a supermodel. So what you call 'success' is not what I would call 'success'. And even though I don't share GP's methods, he is doing what's important for him. I cannot think of a better example than The Dude

In all cases, meeting anybody new should never be about personal gain, rather it should be about personal growth. After trying to have many forced, unmeaningful interactions, I have been coming to very similar thoughts lately, but you summed it up perfectly.

Success is just being happy with who you are.

the interaction with the sunflower girl could hardly be described as an attempt to seduce Of course the OP seduced her! He was charming and funny and spontaneous! He invited her into his life, and stepped up when it was necessary. Seduction is not about getting the girl who doesn't like you, it's about acting through your own intentions.

I hadn't read his AMA, only heard to some of his audio material. He says he would tease her, and 'then i will just stop get up and ask her if she wants anything to eat or drink'. Which is very different from 'move to the other side of the bed and turn the light on and sit there'. When I'm with a girl I've only met a couple of times, we don't 'hang out'. If you interpret doing something else as checking up your emails or grabbing a snack, I imagine the girl would feel rejected or even hurt. I wou…

I've read this several times, and honestly I think this would just be awkward. Teasing and taking it slowly is much more natural to me. As David Wygant says, sex is only fun when it's her idea.

Though I am much more timid and rarely sleep with a girl the first time I meet her, reading stories like this made me confident I can escalate whenever I feel like it. Just out of curiosity, what percentage of women you sleep with would you say call you or are receptive to seeing you again, and how many dissapear off the map?

Writing a letter you've got all the time in the world, it's an exercise in thinking. IM-ing has some semblance of realtime, but is still very distant. Face-to-face communication is infinitely rich. For me talking on the phone is too real-time and too little human. I know cute girls who don't like talking on the phone. I also dislike webcams, telegraphs and smoke signals.

I think I do, too. Excessively so, maybe. Have you actually met these people or are you going by the photos?

I never call people, always text or IM. But then I read some guru saying 'man up and call her', and so I did, and so it was awkward. Be yourself! communicate like you would usually do.

I've met a lot of interesting people on okc, much more so than when I took up social dancing for example. I'm dating a girl I met there. No social skills necessary? that's bull, I never got a reply until I learnt how to present myself as an attractive person, and until I developed some calibration I blew a lot of potential dates. Face-to-face practice is a must, but okc has been a great tool for me.

Never escalate during the day. Never. I see this a lot, yet I never agreed with it. I always thought this was a us-centric idea, but you're a well traveled man, why do you think this is true? I only follow two dating-related blogs and yours is one of them. Thanks for doing this AMA!

Does this resonate with you? He has this fantasy idea of what a perfect relationship should be like and gets very angry and throws fits when real life doesn't live up to his unreachable expectations. It does with me. A friend once said to me I should give people a chance. When I meet someone, I often keep expecting them to like everything I like, be smart, interesting, politically active, musical, whatnot. As soon as I see something I don't like, I tend to go 'next' in my mind. But overall it's …

I'm in the same camp as you. Too much thinking and too little doing. I had an 'aha' moment last week. I went out with a girl, played some pool, conversation was interesting, light kino going on, all in all we had a fun time. As I was walking her home we stop at a red light, and I thought I wanted to kiss her then, but old chump kicked in and I didn't. We keep on walking and she seemed a bit nervous, at one point she asked me which bus was I taking home and advised me on where was the bus stop. I…

Thanks! I've taken up dancing and it's helped with being comfortable touching people, improv would probably do the same with verbal expression and 'going with the flow'. I'll keep my eyes open.

I find it near impossible to keep conversation random and light. Most times I can chat up a girl who interests me and get her number, but I've always been a 'serious' guy, and I realize this is killing all my chances of casual sex happening. And I cannot for the life of me build rapport with unintelligent women. Any advice on this?

Awesome analogy. There have been times in my life where I was both horny and desperate, and I have felt how my 'hunting' stare turned women off. I will remember this when I go out.

I suffer from what you could call serial one-itis. I am very selective with women, but when I find one I like, it takes over my brain and I start fantasizing non-stop about her, and unconsciously imposing my fantasies on her. I realize I should be living the moment and so now I stop myself whenever I find myself daydreaming in such a way, but it has caused me to drive away many girls I really cared about. Keeping a screening mindset is one of the most valuable things I picked up from the PUA com…
