Yeah, this thread made me uncomfortable for that reason. Why even entertain the idea of being with a fetishizer, or conversely with someone who's possessive about women in "his" race/ethnicity? ALL of that is sh1t behavior, period. I'm also a WOC who has dated both within my race and interracially, I really don't like assigning inherent value (positive or negative) to one or the other. Sure we can talk about different types of red flags you have to look out for between the two situations, but to…

It is so tiring to see how Jada is constantly humiliated by the public, in every way possible. As a wife, as an alopecia patient, as a Black woman, as a mother. So sickening.

Nah, sis. Your time is precious, don't waste it like that. Just block at the first offense. I was on one of the foreign language chat apps to practice French and set it so I would only be visible to other women, so sometimes a few dishonest men would slip through the cracks and I'd just block them immediately if they reached out. You don't owe anyone anything 😌 le temps, ça coûte un bras!

She's not a medical professional at all, she's an SW. Her TikTok accounts keep getting taken down but she always makes new ones and keeps posting this blatant misinformation to get more viewers for her p0rn content, under the guise of being a "medical student" or "nurse," because medtok content gets a lot of views. It's vile.

Ugh! I never understood that mentality!! How is marriage more of a commitment than having a baby, when you can get an annulment/divorce (maybe not easily, though it's still possible) but you can't un-make an entire human being??? This poor girl also told me she hoped her baby was a girl because she thought a girl might "soften up" her boyfriend. Ah, yes. The classic "let's burden a daughter with the responsibility of managing someone else's feelings before she's even born." Pickme mentality amon…

Honestly unless he's dealing with life-or-death issues at that exact moment (his family member is on their deathbed, or he's a surgeon and elbows deep in trauma call), Valentine's day celebrations would be the top priority on February 14 for any man if he cares about you. Heck, even a trauma surgeon would find a way to make it up to you, PLUS SOME, at the earliest opportunity to do so. If he wanted to, he would.

This is exactly it. On a related note, that's also why it's so disappointing to me that people have been trying to gut affirmative action (which, while admittedly a flawed program, is imho better than nothing) but paying 0 attention to legacy and donor admissions. I wish Operation Varsity Blues was more of a wakeup call for that.

Nothing pisses me off when their friends say something offensive and racist (which has happened to me more than once) and they don't defend me. I feel like the comments section has definitely not been talking enough about this. A stay-at-home mother's labor is worth about $115,000 every year on average according to Business Insider (and that's the 2013 value, inflation-adjusted that's nearly $140k today!), and women do that sh!t for these ungrateful roach-men for FREE. With no benefits, no retirement matching, no vacation days, no sick time, nothing! For FREE!!! It's enough to make my head spin. Hm, interesting. Do you mind explaining? I had read that carat-for-carat, lab diamond synthesis has 5% of the carbon footprint as diamond mining and lab synthesis doesn't have waste from cutting, while diamond mining has a history of toxin leakage / ecosystem damage that impacts local communities. Just curious if there's more to the story than that? Sourcing diamonds from the ocean sounds cool, though, thanks for mentioning that!

Middle class Men who care about family legacy and honor will always do a ton of research on rings, children’s education, extracurriculars, and housing. As they should. That's the only way you can even attempt to make a family legacy.

I happen to love the look of moissanites and prefer their look over diamonds (and I refuse to have any mined gems, for environmental/ethical reasons) so I asked for a moissanite. My ring set came in at $5k, which was way under my fiancé's budget of $12k... so he paid off some of my student loans with the difference lol. And I am honest with people that it's a moissanite when they ask, I don't like the idea of lying to other women around me about that. All that to say, I agree with you -- your fi…

This is so sad. He could easily go on Etsy and get her a beautiful handmade ring for a few hundred dollars while they're on student budgets, and in the future when he can afford more, get her an upgrade. Or get her earrings that will match the future wedding ring? I bought a ring for myself when I was a student in uni, using some of my part time job money - just under $300 but still gorgeously made and with a stunning lab-synthesized gem that was durable enough for daily wear. That's so stupid because in study after study after study it's been demonstrated that women doctors have better patient outcomes than men do, especially among the most acutely ill patients in the inpatient setting, so they'd literally rather take worse patient outcomes than include women in the field 🤦🏻 Interesting blog post that links out to several of these peer-reviewed studies and methodologies: https://blogs.sph.harvard.edu/ashish-jha/2016/12/19/do-women-make-better-doctors-than-men/

One of my earliest childhood memories was the time (before my mom quit her job to become a SAHM), when my mom went on a weeklong business trip and left my sister and me in my father's care. Among other things, my father completely forgot to buy groceries that week. We ran out of milk to have with our cereal... so he poured orange juice in. While I appreciate some of the sentiment, I can tell you with complete certainty as a woman of color that my culture's misogyny is 100% authentic. It's been misogynistic since wayyyyyy before white Europeans interacted with my ancestors, and it hasn't gone away -- the misogyny just updates once in a while, trapping and draining women in new, innovative ways. Men of color often don't react like your husband does -- instead, many will hold their frustration with being objectified and treated as le…

Marriage in the US has compelling legal benefits if you want to have a child with someone or own property together. (You could technically achieve the same thing by hiring a lawyer and drawing up legal agreements, but marriage basically bundles it all together.) Because bearing children in particular comes with massive physical, emotional, and monetary risk to the woman, the institution of marriage ensures that you have some recourse if things go south and the man abandons or divorces you -- nam…

Oof, that sounds horrible. I hope she's doing alright otherwise 💕 Yeah, some of my friends have been applying to law school this year, at the same time I've been applying to medical school, so we've been comparing notes. They're not even wasting the application fee money to apply to law schools outside of the top 10 or 15.

Yeah. Class of 2015 law graduates overall had something like a 10% unemployment rate (compared to 5% national average at the time), and even among those who did find a job, only about 3/4 of them were in jobs that even required a law degree + passing the bar exam. Class of 2019 law graduates had median starting salaries of only $80k or so, and only a select few law schools see their graduates mostly making 6 figures after graduation. Imagine going into hundreds of thousands of dollars of debt fo…

I guess I would want to point out, a lot of the commenters were talking about how she has a good LOCI (letter of continued interest) based on her husband being in the same city as that law school that she's waitlisted at. Since she's (supposedly) on the priority waitlist, it could definitely impact whether they accept her from the waitlist, considering some schools are only interested in accepting waitlisted students who they know will commit to attending the school. (They like increasing their …

Right, it's not like medicine, where the worst student from the worst-ranked US medical school still gets an MD or DO and will almost certainly match into residency... law school rank matters A LOT for finding a job. SMH. Hopefully she sees the light soon.

Agree with everything up until the last point -- some people go to medical school or law school after having worked for a couple of years already, so they at least have had experiences navigating a career and may even have some financial stability that can offset some of those hefty loans. It's becoming increasingly common over the last couple of decades, to the point where (at least in medical school) it's now considered "unusual" for people to go in straight from undergraduate.

He's in medical school, he can't move. But at the very least he should've encouraged her to go to the best school she's accepted at and have a long distance relationship. Then in a few years when he's applying to residency programs, he should try to move to her city.

So true!!! On top of that, if this were my mother, I'd say, "Your paintings are lovely and mean so much to me. I love seeing how happy you are when you paint and I can't wait to see what you paint next!"

I'm also going through this, with a friend who keeps taking her LV "on-and-off" ex back again. The three of us used to be good friends during school, but since graduation he's shown his true colors as an entitled trust fund baby who dumps her every time he leaves our city (which is extremely often because he is flighty, indecisive, and privileged enough to afford breaking leases and relocating multiple times a year). And yet, every time he moves back here, she lets him move into her apartment re…

Totally agree with graduate/medical/law school students being the exception to this rule, though even then you and your SO should at least have a plan for when you'll get married.

I also have so many questions about how he even came up with a list of several countries he wants to move to. Aside from diplomats or military / military-adjacent folks, who even is able to move to any number of countries like that, nowadays? Did he consider things like visas? Learning the language? Getting vaccines for diseases endemic in that country? It doesn't sound like the kind of situation where he's moving to one country because of a specific job opportunity or school... so, is he trying…

Also I get really pissed off when Asian American men insist that they get the shorter end of the stick in the dating game. Like, okay, maybe you picked less often on Tinder... ...but do you deal with the constant threat of stalking, harassment, abuse, and murder that women (especially women of color) face in daily life? No? Then sit down.

In my experience (as an Asian American woman), the Venn diagram of "Asian men who are rabidly against Asian women being in interracial relationships" and "Asian men who fetishize white women" is a circle. Anyway, some of the Asian men I've dated and even some of my current Asian male friends have had so many issues with internalized racism to sort out, I would not want to waste my time or emotional labor fixing that for them. Especially after I had already done the work to start addressing my ow…

My s/o and I were classmates when we met. He asked me out and I made him wait a few months (yes, months!) for the first date, then a few more for the second and third 😅 I made it really clear to him that I was 100% focused on studying. To me, the fact that he didn't want to distract me from my goals and waited for me to be ready for a relationship really spoke to his patience and his character. And it was genuine, too -- he's been incredibly supportive of my educational and career goals since th…

If it's possible to do so in your industry, I would try to find some part-time / WFH work related to what you do, maybe once your kids start going to school so you're not juggling childcare 24/7. That way you still have some time to be able to take care of the kids, but you also have a little more independence and can put at least a little bit of money into your own retirement accounts and savings, just in case. Then, if you want to get back to your career when your kids have grown up, it's easi…

That last line hit me really hard. We WOC don't get the option to compartmentalize from gender-based violence or racial violence like that. I wish I could put my pain and anger in a box and put the box away so I could go about my day without breaking down, but I can't.

💕 I'm so fortunate to have him, and truthfully I've also had the dumb luck of having women in my life who made sure I am happy enough with myself that I wouldn't settle for anything less from a man. Hoping my sister and friends (as well as other FDSers!) truly take this to heart 💖

They're just so fiery, I love them! Totally agree, vetting is always important. While I love where my relationship is now and am excited about the direction it's going in, I'm realistic and I know people can change over time. Keeping high standards can help make it so that both he and I change for the better ☺️

He logistically and emotionally supported me when I was applying to graduate school -- quizzed me for test prep, stood in as a mock interviewer, kept the apartment distraction-free when I needed to study or write applications, encouraged me when I felt down, etc. He isn't shy when it comes to bragging about my accomplishments, either 😂 plus, he expressed many times and in detail that he is intending to uproot with me and find a new job when I move for school in a few months, and again when I gra…

I really, really, really hate it when men claim to be feminists because of their daughters. Like, what about the mother of your child? Was she not enough to convince you to respect women, or is your ego so massive that you don't see the point of respecting girls and women until your genes get passed down to one?
