Having a recording device could have saved him. Just sayin' when you are working in dangerous enviroments wear a voice recorder. Make sure it works and ask someone for the date. Store these recordings on a secured cloud drive and a local hard drive. Make sure its legal, if the enviroment is very dangerous just record anyways, if you get caught recording say you didn't know it is on.
