The biggest thing that helped me so far was positive mirror talk. Like I sit in front of the mirror and tell myself all the wonderful things about me. I started doing things for myself that I’d always wished my partners would have done (like taking myself out, buying myself flowers/jewelry/etc) and it seems that since I treat myself so well, and think so highly of myself, when someone gives me a compliment (even though I still like it) it doesn’t make me like 😍😍😍🤡

I’ve been talking about this shit in therapy. A couple of years ago I realized that if a guy told me how pretty I am I’d almost be willing to burn my whole life down for him. Now if a guy tells me I’m pretty/beautiful/etc my first thought is “I know, I own a fucking mirror”
/r/FemaleDatingStrategy10/08/21 12:57 AM

I’ve found that writing it all out then burning that shit is very cathartic. Aside from the fact that they don’t care, they don’t deserve my energy like that.

I mean really though. I’ve had guys in my younger years that were otherwise literal trash AT LEAST walk me to my car, and stay there until I get in and shut the door. I’m talking like, total dogs, who somehow had that one shred of chivalry. The bar is in the molten center of the fucking earth.

I dated a verbally abusive guy in my 20s, and was so stressed out that the inside of my mouth was broken out in ulcers for almost a year. I couldn’t get rid of them. They all went away within two weeks of me getting rid of HIM, and that’s when I realized his bullshit had been causing them the whole time

It takes her so long because she’s developing an aversion. Yes. I remember multiple relationships where in the beginning I’d get off in like, a few minutes. Versus months/years later when it would take me FOR-EV-ER. I would have either become averse to the person, or just bored.

Girl, this. I literally, 5 minutes ago, had to stare at myself in the bathroom mirror at the gas station and tell myself that the majority of men are fucking trash and will say almost anything to get you to fuck them. I have a very “what have you done for me lately?” mentality now. Thanks FDS.

This. So much this. Simply watching this reminded me of all the times I’ve set very simple boundaries only to have them readily trespassed. Sometimes I have to come here just to reignite my disgust with LVM because honestly I can be a sucker for a pretty face. Had a date with an attractive guy yesterday and at one point he just like…basically leaps over and starts kissing me. 20-something year old me would have been like “oh he likes me!” but 35 year old me was like WTF. Omg this. My dad makes more than my mom so they split expenses proportionally, and if we were on a family vacation and all went out to dinner together (any meal probably), my dad would foot the bill for everyone, and my family is not “affluent.” I kept thinking not only is this guy an asshole, but his family are assholes if they’re all rich, going on a vacation abroad, and making their sons teacher/part time waitress girlfriend pay her own way the whole time.

What is with these motherfuckers? Even after I left him sometimes I would romanticize our relationship, then I had to remember how he spent all his money on weed, new clothes and bullshit, wanted cats but would literally whine like a child when I asked him to clean up after them (thank god we didn’t have kids), kept a joint bank account with his mom in case he needed to borrow money (which was regularly), would pitch a fit and leave if I started a conversation about our problems, etc etc. In the…

When I was with my ex husband, I decided to go back to college. I asked him to pick up our mortgage because it was going to be a stretch for me, and he whined and bitched about how broke he would be if he did that (and he already made more money than me). I went back to school anyway, worked 2 jobs and still made my car payment, half of our bills, and footed dinner on a regular basis because he spent all his money on himself. I was literally having to count change to put gas in my car. He would …

I have almost always known that I didn’t want kids. During my younger, dumber, more reckless years I did become pregnant once and was planning to keep the child, until the father started showing his true colors. He started being extremely controlling, telling me what to eat, who I could and could not see, who “his child” would and wouldn’t be allowed around, etc, all while never going to an appointment with me or helping me pay for anything. I suddenly saw my future and when I got to the point t…

God that sounds awful and I’m sorry that’s been your experience. In this particular instance, I eventually went on the date and I was uncomfortable and stand-offish the whole time. After the date, I went to a friends house and stayed for 3 days on a bender. I didn’t have a phone at the time, and when I got back home I checked my messages online and I had a slew of messages from him that started out cordial and turned into “it’s pretty rude and selfish of you to go out with me and then disappear …

I was actually just thinking about this yesterday. I have a tendency to wear form-fitting shirts and loose pants (because it’s just the look I’ve always preferred) and I’ve been feeling a little puffy lately. I was getting ready for work and questioning if I should wear a more flowy shirt to hide my “puff”, when I was actually really comfortable in my clothes. I thought about all the guys I work with and how many of them are walking around with their bellies swollen from years of beer and tacos …

I’ve been burned by the same “friend” twice when she popped up out of the blue during trying times in my life to “catch up”, then went and aired all my shit to other people. Nice to know I’m a celebrity among these peasants, I guess. Now I literally only have two friends, and I don’t even waste my time with flighty acquaintances. One of said friends put it very well: “All of my friends are my best friends. I don’t have time for acquaintances.” It’s just like dating. And yeah, it’s lonely sometim…

I left my first husband because he didn’t have sex with me for 3 YEARS. And he was STILL like 😱😱😱 And he STILL hates my guts. I just don’t understand where the surprise came from. Also, having been married twice, I’ve seen where like after you get married they just...settle in a give up. Like they assume you won’t ever leave just because you signed a piece of paper. Fuck that. Also, I’ll probably never marry again and I have zero qualms with that.

My second husband (ugh I hate saying that) encouraged me to start my own business in landscaping and swore it would be like a joint effort and he would help me with everything. I left my job, bought the necessary equipment, came up with the name/logo, did all the legal shit, secured customers (you get the picture) while also doing the field work. I literally did everything. All I asked for help with was the actual physical work. I would get up and get ready and it would be time to leave and he w…

There have been a couple of long term, really impactful relationships that I’ve walked away from and there are times I’ve wondered if there’s more I could have/should have done to save them. Then I read something like this and it just brings me back to earth and reminds me “how on earth could they have thought I was happy?” Both times when they were SHOCKED and SO HEARTBROKEN that I left I just wondered like....how did you not see this coming? I’ve beat myself up a little bit for not having “the…

Same here. I’m kinda southern so it sounds more like “deddy”. I’m in my 30s and I’m sure I’ll call him that forever. I could never imagine calling a guy “daddy” for any reason, especially in the bedroom. Same applies to “papi” for the Spanish speaking guys I’ve been involved with. Just, ew, no. And I think it’s creepy AF if a guy WANTS to be called that. There’s no valid excuse or rationalization. It’s just fucking gross.

Omg, THIS. Why do they just generally stop trying? It’s like they do the work just to get the prize and then they think they can just kick their feet up and we’ll keep putting in the same effort. WTAF?

Yeah, my first husband always worked with mostly women (at whatever job he was holding at the time) and if I ever had to go to his workplace, they were all really cold and rude to me. I totally feel you on the rage. I look back at my most recent ex and get so mad at myself for allowing him to use me, let him live in my house (like what was I thinking?!), etc. After I finally broke up with him he would try to guilt me by saying things like “I’m sorry I’m such a loser” “I’m sorry I’m not good enough for you” “I’m sorry I couldn’t make you happy” and after he said these things about a million times I wanted to say THEN STOP BEING SUCH A FUCKING LOSER but I knew if I did he would…

Ikr! And then after we did have sex, and he realized that I am not a hermaphrodite, he was 1. Relieved and 2. Had SO MUCH RESPECT for me upon realizing I’d wanted to wait. But he would have fucked me on the first date. And we’re conditioned to believe that this is ok for men, and the inclination to “fuck anything that walks” is just the way they are and we should respect them anyway.
