This happened to me. 2 months after her best friend’s divorce, we separated. They developed a trauma bond that lead to unhealthy mirroring. While her best friend was having marriage issues, I remember she would spend countless hours on the phone with her. I would advise her to give some space so that her friend could actually hash it out with her then husband, For better or worse. I would also say that the energy she spends on the phone is being redirected from the potential of problem solving e…

I love you brother. This thread has also made me have so much empathy for divorced men I meet in the wild. I no longer think why are you not married, but how much pain did you go through to be here. OP, acceptance is hard. It took me two years to finally accept that she took a hammer purposely and eyes wide open, and sabotage our marriage

Great advice! Just pissed that my attorney , never told me about the retirement reduction thing. Now that you say it, it’s so obvious! Question, is the date of separation a cut off date to when new income is no longer considered marital asset? Is there such a thing?

I love this post. If I could you give you an award, I would. I’m dealing with the same reality call. Interestingly enough, I see similarities with office politics as well nationally politics. Folks like us have been raised to show the utmost integrity and naively believed that actions speak louder than words. Sadly, the meek do not inherit the earth as I see it. I’ve suspected this for a few years now, reading current events. But, never found a way to translate it to actions in my own life. Fast…

Something similar happened to me. She broke every pillar in our marriage for 18 months. And last week, she woke me up while I was sleeping to speak to her mom. Mom asked me a few questions, and based on the disagreements between STBX and myself, her mom recommended divorce. Ultimately, she used her mom to break up. I think all her actions previously were also a way to have me tap out. They want us to be the bad guys in their twisted minds, even when they don’t have the guts to end it themselves.…

Despite what some of us have tried, our partners chose not to trust in a better future together. -How pharaoh hardened his heart not to change his ways, despite the plagues brought on Eg…

That is insane! Thanks for sharing nonetheless. We need more raw truth from folks in your profession. That is correct. Your two options are married filling tax jointly, or married filling tax separately. Turbo tax should have given you that option during the application. Unless she did that part on purposes. Sorry to hear. Now the IRS has both your names on the hook.

You are right. The only reason I stayed was because she said she would sign a prenup on the 4th month. By the time, I had a lawyer make a contract around month 9, she blatantly said she would not anymore and tries to gaslight me. The remaining time has been family visiting and me not wanting to rain on their parade. It’s also me curious on how much stupidity will make a 43 years old woman with no kids waste valuable time before menopause hits her. She’ll be served in May.

Never give up. However, Einstein said that “Insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.” My suggestion is that you might need to meditate hard on WHY and HOW to change things. Some people achieve those answers by meditation and self introspection, others by reading books, others by speaking to physiologist. Either method works if it gets you to the destination you want to reach.

Also, to avoid unfair profiting, asset divisions should be made based on marital tax income contribution by default. If couples decide to go against the default, they can go through the extra steps of drafting an agreement prior to marriage. Sally, the current laws are flipped flopped, and folks prey upon unsuspecting and naive young adults.

Ultimately, if “crypto bros” were able to lure law maker support to get bitcoin from 60k to 100k in a few weeks, what the hell are folks doing on this topic? I don’t care what party we get on board, as long as things change. If nothing changes, birth rates and marriages will continue to trend down in our society. If this subreddit is any indications, most men going through divorces have ruled out committed second marriages due to financial wipeout.

It’s all about the Benjamins baby. Financial security is what leads them into marriage. Financial instability is the leading cause of what leads them out of divorce. Reaching a level of acceptable security is what allows them to detach and day dream about divorce.

I just posted something similar to your situation. Check my latest post. You are luckier to me because you’re only 3 years in. Don’t be like me who pushed through 8 years just to end up with the same conclusion of divorce. Time wasted is the most important thing. Where you invest your love, you invest your life. In the end, unless you have a prenup, she will stay with you longer just so she can profit from you.

1) Usher wrote a song about signing his divorce documents called “Papers”. My favorite lyrics: “I done turned into the man that I never thought I’d be….I’m ready to sign them papers” 2) Usher also wrote a heartbreaking song about trying to save his relationship with great lyrics called “Moving Mountains”. My favorite lyrics: “Whatever I do it’s like I just can’t get through to you…..water from the rain keeps washing progress away” 3) Judah and the Lion wrote an entire album about the lead singer…

Not sure how a log of the abandoned activities matter. Being able to recount this to another party is the least of your problems. Getting sympathy from them won’t change anything. Only thing that matters is you and your daughter. Work on strategizing actionable actions now to protect that relationship. You sound very smart. Use your brain power to focus on “problem solving” above “story telling”.

She is trying to keep your daughter away from you. Strategize on changing that now. I don’t think it’ll get better after you divorce.

Well said about “Free Will”. I’m a believer like OP, and simply accept that God have us the free will to be saints or devils. If wife chose to destroy our marriage. I have no choice but to accept her free will. But can only hope to be wiser for my sake next time while choosing a mate.

You gave me an accurate flash back of dating back then. I’m scared to think of how worse it’s probably become now.

These are what I call “serial daters”. They date multiple men simultaneously and have Plan A, B and C for weekend nights. Some even go on multiple dates per night. Because they aren’t emotionally invested, they also primarily seek free drinks and food on these encounters. Sadly, it’s become a phenomenon as far back as 10 years ago.

Thank you so much for introducing to this document. I just googled it and downloaded my state’s form. Now I understand why my spouse has been making a budget a tracking all this for the past years. Do you know of any one who hasn’t filled out the retirement section fully? I fear my stbx will get greedy if she sees my 401k numbers.

So who pays for the ex’s fees? Since we have no savings, Does it come out of her portion of the house equity?

How much did you make in relation to her that you didn’t need to pay alimony. I make almost double. How did you keep 100% of your house instead of 50%? Are you in an equitable state?

Very interesting. I automatically think to congratulate folks that reach the 50 year mark. Then I realized, we are both on this thread. How did yours end? Any thoughts or advice to the younger regarding love/marriage ?

Yea. “Lifetime alimony” is what I meant. Is it that red states are less prone to giving out alimony than blue states?

Per your last paragraph, you understood the post wrong. My thought was to use my signature as leverage since a legal divorce benefits her: assets + freedom to remarry. The only thing I would gain is freedom from her. But lose my assets. I can get freedom from her even without signatures. But per other comments, it seems not to be a viable strategy since it appears my signature is worth nothing. PS: I could care less if she is having an affair now.

Exactly this indeed. In addition to the one you mentioned, natural supplements such as Magnesium Glycinate, Vitamin C, Vitamin K, Ginkgo Biloba and Ashwagandha roots further help with the fight against Stress and Cortisol. Limiting Caffeine intake, and trying to increase sleep also helps against stress. For sleep, try sleeping at the same time. When I truly can’t sleep, I take natural Valerian Root supplements. Personally, I’ve noticed that white noise also helps me go to sleep. Because I live i…
