The negative aspects of medicine being predominantly female are mentioned in my first comment. More demand for part time work and therefore more expensive training. This is exacerbated by older men being pushed out due to pension nonsense. How the fuck is that blaming men for anything? I’m insulting you because you’re being incalculably dim over this and making the MRM look stupid by complaining about women being doctors. Answer the question. Do you want to ban women from being doctors?

Christ this is cretinous. I’m not blaming anyone (other than perhaps those who run the NHS). All I was suggesting is that stating most people who leave the profession are women might not be entirely true, due to the differing demographics at different age points. That’s in my original comment, it is cretinous to suggest I was being inibstrusive about that. The problem is multi-factorial. Things are not black and white. You are not offering any solution to this other than saying “women don’t work…

because men make up the vast majority of doctors who are in that age group and worked to 55-60 you're at the very least being misleading This is a paraphrase of what I said. “Vast majority are men” = “they are mostly men”. I don’t see how that is misleading. Sorry if the phrasing was unclear. It is a negative consequence of women becoming the majority of doctors that you get less bang for your buck in regards to training costs and years spent in the profession. What is the solution? Not allow wo…

There was a Stacey Dooley investigates sow on the country with the highest rate of femicide. She stood in a hospital waiting for one to come in and had to wait for about 15 men to be wheeled in before she got one woman.

He was convicted for repeatedly grabbing her breast and pulling her hair after he'd been asked not to. So it seems a pretty fair case for sexual assault. Consenting to sex doesn't mean consent to do whatever you want.

I like how MTV's idea of masculinity is a bunch of guys with their shirts off paddling each other. I'm not American, but I have met a fair few, and they always seemed able to carry a conversation about something half interesting without resorting to beer pong and homo-erotic initiations.

This is pretty inconclusive. She seems to be hitting herself open palmed in a freak out fashion more than a "let's frame the guy" fashion. She may well have given herself a black eye somehow at some point, but I don't think it's possible to draw any actual conclusions from this video.

I was going to say much the same as this. Heterosexual parents are increasingly making this decision as well. Whether you think pre-pubescent gender intervention is positive or not is one thing (going to be another 20 years until the really good data is available on whether it is more successful than later transitioning or not transitioning at all), but the sexualities of the parents is pretty irrelevant.

Ched Evans has seemingly consensual sex with someone a bit drunk = rape. A school teacher gets her pupil drunk, ties him to a bed, threatens him with a knife, has sex with him = sexual assault. And thus perfect equality achieved. I wouldn't mind so much if the definition of rape wasn't being widened to include anything a woman might consider rape. But if rape is sex without consent or where consent could not be given, then men should be protected by the same expansion of the law.

You stick one middle finger up. Then you stick the other one up. Honestly, you're dealing with people who respond to alternative points of view by lodging an actual complaint. They're useless allodoxaphobic people. And the more people like you who are brave enough to stick your neck out, the sooner their narrative crumbles. Good on you for speaking out. Stick with it and lend support to the tutor any way you can, particularly if there is a complaint.

This is a pretty massive straw man. For anyone who speaks kindly of stay at home parents of any gender, there's just as many who call them lazy. I think the number of people who simultaneously hold the views that stay at home mums are heroes and that stay at home dads are deadbeats is very small indeed.

I want people to take murder seriously, but I don't get upset when I hear someone say "I'd murder a coffee". Whilst we do think in language, we are also quite complex creatures capable of holding multiple interpretations of words dependent on the context. The idea that some words need to be placed behind a velvet rope lest they influence our emotional responses to the actions they sometimes denote has no basis in fact. If I go out into my garden and destroy and ant nest, describing it as a genoc…

Hmm. I actually don't think this is that great. It really pisses me off when people say that we should concentrate on female victims of domestic violence because "they're the ones that are being killed". This just isolates the 20-odd men a year that are murdered by their wives in the UK and makes it seem like their lives aren't as much worth. Any approach to suicide prevention should be inclusive of all victims, 20% is a sizeable minority. I don't paticularly want it to turn into something like …

She told me that male lawyers are getting promotions because they're men, and she is better qualified. If she's such a good lawyer, and her firm is obviously breaking the law by promoting the coffee boy ahead of her, why doesn't she prove her skills by suing the shit out of them?

Well it depends. There are people with learning difficulties who will never really become criminally culpable. There should definitely be a separate system for under 18s. Then individual circumstances should be taken into account.

Well there's a bit more space between formative years and the incident, but yes, childhood sexual abuse is likely. This is why a therapeutic approach is better than a punitive approach.
/r/MensRights28/02/16 10:14 AM

But I'd assume a male in the same situation to be a victim, so how is that discriminatory?
/r/MensRights27/02/16 10:42 PM

Nah, it's really easy to follow, it's just that it is all bollocks. Average age a woman loses her virginity in the US - 17.2 As you can see from the chart from this Guttmacher study, only around 2% of girls have had sex by the age of 13 (5% for boys). Again from Kinsey, the average number of partners in a lifetime is 4.3 for women. Women who have had sex with over one hundred would be statistical outliers. If it had been a man, then yes there would be a much greater chance of him being prosecuted. That would also be wrong.
/r/MensRights27/02/16 06:01 PM

Jeezus, I hope you don't have a daughter. If she came onto her father, then there is something up with her. If my 18 year old daughter came onto me, I'd more likely call a therapist for her rather than just fuck her. (Same if it were a son)
/r/MensRights27/02/16 06:00 PM

Yes, I am assuming that an 18 year old who has sex with her father hasn't got her best thinking hat on. What a stupid assumption.

/r/MensRights27/02/16 01:53 AM

Because she's 18, and the offence happened at the same time as being abused by her father. Any sexual dysfunction she has is so fucking obviously his fault.
/r/MensRights27/02/16 01:49 AM

She was 18 and having sex with her father in a park. She wasn't previously abused, she was undergoing continued abuse. You don't just turn 18 and go "hey ho, best grow up, tell my dad to back off and sort myself out now." Of course this is a mitigating factor, 18 is still young, and there's every chance she has no concept of what is considered acceptable sexual behaviour. If having sex with your dad in a park doesn't sneak across your line, then group sex with teenagers isn't going to either.
/r/MensRights27/02/16 01:46 AM

If they did actually walk up to an 18 year old girl HAVING SEX WITH HER FATHER IN A FUCKING PARK, and then proceeded to have sex with her. Then that is pretty reprehensible. Not rape, but seriously fucking scummy behaviour, even for 14 year olds. The whole thing is just quite sad. The poor woman has clearly had a fucked up upbringing, I very much doubt her father just started abusing her when she turned 18. Convicting her would be in no way in the public interest, she wasn't grooming and exploit…

You clearly have some problems with your reading comprehension skills. That is not what I am saying in the slightest. I'm saying the Empire is painted in shades of grey and understanding its implications is a difficult task, and that this isn't reflected in the national curriculum. You seem to have it in your head that I've said "anybody who thinks the Empire had a net-positive impact is an idiot" in spite of the fact that I have now repeatedly indicated that that is not what I meant. Which is n…
/r/MensRights13/02/16 10:12 PM

And I have already explained why it should not be regarded as an hypocrisy. I'm not saying you should teach people that the Empire is good or bad. I'm merely suggesting that some events are left out of the curriculum in order to maintain a narrative. Similarly in Japan, certain historical events pertaining to the Japanese Empire at the start of the 20th century are whitewashed from Japanese history textbooks. Explain the hypocrisy as you see it. Is it because I posited my own personal belief of …

/r/MensRights13/02/16 07:50 PM

I do recognize the good of the British Empire. I just feel on balance it did more harm than good. But that's beside the point and subject to change. Mine isn't a narrative being taught to people, it is a personal conclusion (that just so happens to be bang-on /s).
/r/MensRights13/02/16 07:34 PM

Because of a number of contributing factors. Because we're naturally more receptive to women's pain than men's pain. Because money. Convincing women that not working is oppression is great for capitalism: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Do5zrdTb-yI
/r/MensRights13/02/16 11:49 AM

We're not taught History. We're taught historical narratives. In the UK, when we learn about the British Empire, we don't learn about the Opium Wars or all the shit that happened, we're just told we had an empire. As such, you get actual grown-ups mawkishly bleating about how great we used to be. The reality is that some good came from the Empire, but a shit-tonne of bad has come from the cultural imperialism of a number of countries. There's no nuance. In terms of women's rights, the history of…

They're not lobbying for longer sentences for men. They're just leaving those as they are and lobbying for shorter sentences for women, when there is already a 60% gap. There's a few links on men's rights subreddit right now. And here's a link breaking down The Corston report that backs the bollocks up: http://mra-uk.co.uk/?p=226
/r/MensRights07/02/16 10:10 PM

If they wanted to help people, then they would lobby to decrease prison time for everybody, not just women. What you're saying does not tally with what is actually going on. Feminists aren't helping, they are lobbying for even greater sentencing inequality than already exists. This is breeding resentment. It is damaging society. Stop it.
/r/MensRights07/02/16 08:03 PM

It's odd that whilst you're here saying this, feminists in the UK are lobbying to abolish women's prisons. Your just repeating the propaganda and ignoring what is going on in the real world.

And explain how it manifests itself in Western society, what the evidence for it is etc. 2: What are your thoughts on post-modernism and its application through standpoint theory and intersectionality on 3rd wave feminist theory? 3: do you agree with the motions going through in the UK that suggest fewer women should be jailed whilst nothing is done to address the number of male prisoners?

Depth of knowledge as well. Just always try and instill curiosity and an interest in learning. I was talking to my feminist friend the other day who funking loves 'intersectionality', but then knew nothing about 'standpoint theory' or post-modernism; which are both foundational to intersectionality itself. She's just been told something and run with it without looking any deeper into it. Feminism demands pseudo-intellectual morons who perfectly demonstrate the notion that "a little learning is a…
/r/MensRights05/02/16 03:27 PM

Don't try to teach kids 'the truth'. Teach kids how to think for themselves. I think simply asking young people "what do you think of xyz?" is the best way to guide them to logical conclusions. The entire problem with feminist teaching is that people are being told the answers and then regurgitating them. In my critical theory classes at university we'd be contrast Hume's explanation of aesthetics against Kant's and then discuss it. Then we got to feminism we read de Beauvoire and took for grant…

/r/MensRights05/02/16 10:19 AM

Parasuicidal behaviour (whilst often a precursor to suicide) is a seperate behaviour to suicide. Parasuicidal behaviour is far more common in women. Parasuicidal behaviour is far more common than suicide and often interpreted as suicidal behaviour. This all gives the impression that women attempt more. In reality women who want to kill themselves do so, they're not just inept at it. Which appears to be the feminist line, oddly. There's a really good BMJ article about this, I'll try to find it.
/r/MensRights03/02/16 12:04 AM

Its run by Jane Powell, who is an avowed feminist. They believe en masse that male suicide is due to toxic masculinity and poor male emotional intelligence. Jane Powell says things like "the answer is simple... simply talk about it." Which is a gross simplification. Due to their ideological bent they would never look at some of the systematic biases that effect men (child custody, homelessness, law courts, domestic violence, joblessness) and think 'ah shit, maybe that has something to do with it…
/r/MensRights02/02/16 08:45 PM

I'm not really sure that means they're terrified. More that they have a preference. And it makes sense really. If you define yourself as being good at something, then you don't really want to be with somebody who undermines your sense of self-worth. I actually went through the stats for 2012 when 128 women were murdered (2 a week). The stat is usually quoted as "2 women are killed each week by either a partner or ex-partner." It's a ballache looking up all those murders, but 77 of them were killed by partners or ex-partners. The other 51 were a mix of mostly sons, then mentally ill neighbours, burglars and business parnters. So 1.48 women a week killed by partners/exes in 2012 at least. Not bad in a country of 30-odd million women and girls…

That's what happened in that "30% of men say they'd rape if they could get away with it" survey. One guy said that he wouldn't force a woman into doing something that she wouldn't want, but that he would rape a woman. That's obviously trolling. Still made it in though. Belonging and acceptance are incredibly important, particularly as a teen and without it you probably would wind up depressed. That is the power of Tumblr though. When I was young (urgh... While feminist groups claim they disagree and argue, what I tend to find is they disagree with a particular interpretation of patriarchy and feminist theory. It's like a disagreement between a Protestant and a Catholic, they can argue about how ornate their crucifix should be all they want, they still both believe a heap of shared nonsense…

Well they shouldn't be on the sex offenders register due to them not committing a sexual offence. I think you'd have to prove a significant risk of reoffending and a danger to the public at large to justify a separate register. Why shouldn't there be a register for murderers? Why shouldn't there be a register of spousal abusers? Why shouldn't there be a register for thieves? The last two are significantly more prevelent than false raps accusations, should offenders not be on a register to warn o…
/r/MensRights15/01/16 01:06 PM

That's like saying "I can't see how giving somebody a car and then saying they stole it isn't theft". It's bearing false witness and forswearing. It's a seperate crime. If you think feminists are watering down the definition of sexual assault, then including perjury relating to sexual assault makes zero sense.
/r/MensRights15/01/16 12:12 PM

You're going to have to explain the logic behind that. Do you think falsely accusing someone of crime is an act of larceny? False accusations are crimes of perjury.
/r/MensRights15/01/16 11:40 AM

In what way is she a sexual predator?

I'm not sure what good it would do. Public shaming is a pretty abhorrent and uncontrollable form of justice. i think she should be heavily punished, but we don't know the details of her situation. If she's been manipulated into this position by victim advocates who set about completely reframing her perception of self to the point where she truly believed herself to be a victim of gang rape, then she isn't totally culpable. Naming her would only make her the scapegoat for the faceless actions of…

Well it isn't a staggering level obviously. When I read the headline I assumed that it would be higher than male suicide rate, which would have been interesting in context to the whole "women in front line combat positions" thing. All that it really tells us is that military combat affects men and women similarly, and supports the notion that the high male suicide rate in the general population is mostly situational, as opposed to being inherent to masculinity. That is, if you put men and women …

Society has traditionally needed a lot of disposable men. If in 1914 societies were full of men more interested in being an individual expressing their feelings than units willing to "do their bit" then those societies would have struggled over the following four years. I disagree with the earlier post in that I think that women are as valuable to society, and that before female liberation, femininity was as strictly enforced as masculinity. However, through women's lib, we are more aware that i…

Yeah, the constant stream of "don't talk to women you don't know" articles closely followed by "why are all men pussies now?" is remarkably lacking in self awareness.
/r/MensRights02/01/16 10:46 AM

For the vast, vast majority of men, there is nothing less sexy than having sex with someone when there's the slightest doubt your partner doesn't want to be having sex. It's not something many people need too much training on, as it has to be very uncommon for somebody to continue having sex beyond the slightest indication that the other person wants the sex to stop. So in that regard, consent is sexy. Just not the constant vocalised "continue to penetrate my vagina at this agreed rate; good sir…
/r/MensRights02/01/16 03:30 AM

That rings a bell actually. All I really remember is that it showed up meaning cowardly before it meant front-bottom. One of the possible etymologies was "puss-like" among others.
/r/MensRights01/01/16 06:08 PM

Also, "don't be a pussy" has shit all to do with women. It simply means "don't be a wimp". The etymology for 'pussy' as weak and 'pussy' as vagina are completely seperate; the former deriding from 'the qualities and characteristics of puss' and the latter from the Norse 'pursy' (as in a money pouch).

This would be great news. Not because it's fair, nobody should be drafted. But as soon as women are also subject to the draft there will be a massive call to abolish it. Just like alimony. Pretty telling mechanism that things are only ever changed after they have affected women.
/r/MensRights21/12/15 08:06 PM

Yeah, I think that I must have had an incredibly pessimistic view going in. I do think both Josh and Milo came across well. I got nowhere near as angry as I usually do watching BBC3 documentaries. I never thought I'd hear "there is nothing wrong with fighting for men's rights and gender equality" on that channel, and even if it did come with a cart-load of caveats. It was in no way positive. And it was ignorant. But it wasn't an intentional hatchet job.
/r/MensRights17/12/15 02:17 AM

AIDS activist Vusi Matsebula told local media that most circumcised men are infected with HIV because of their behavior as they fail to use protection after undergoing the procedure because they believe circumcision is a preventive measure. Who would have thought that if you tell people they're protected by a magic penis/AIDS forcefield that they might be less sexually responsible? I'm going to go dig out my comments where I predicted this exact thing happening.
/r/MensRights16/12/15 10:44 PM

It was nowhere near as bad as I was expecting. At least he drew a distinction between MRAs, MGTOW and PUA. He also said of Josh that there is no shame in fighting for men's rights. So not all bad. I was expecting a real hatchet job.

It's very important that you only imagine doing this. It can lead to misunderstandings otherwise. And they don't listen to your reasonable explanation. Thanks for the reply. It's an interesting point you raise about being used to rejection. I suppose that goes hand in hand with the importance of respecting a woman's 'no', where you are raised with the expectation that you are going to be turned down for sex perhaps more often than not, which just isn't such a prevalent experience for youn women and girls.
/r/MensRights15/12/15 01:42 AM

The way this usually works is the 'men' sign is replaced with a gender neutral sign. Aside from that, can't imagine much harm from additional gender neutral toilets. Would be better if people would give less of a fuck about trans people using the toilet they prefer.

This is a really good video. I don't think it is something that is said enough that one of the reasons feminism is so successful is that it is so economically useful. The emancipation of women has been so economically expedient in contrast to how much of a disaster male emancipation would be to the economy. For the MRM to be in any way successful it is eventually going to have to be sold to government and business as an economic benefit.

There's a culture among both male and female teenagers for acting depressed, and that is different from parasuicidal actions. I find some of the stuff on there a bit much, but it's hard to deny how much good they've done in terms of publicising men's issues. And their methods are effective and necessary. It's easy to slate Paul Elam, but he obviously cares a lot and is sticking to his strategy of attracting attention to the cause by "fucking their shit up". I'm sure not everything he has done has been perfect but he's still done a vast amount more for movement than pretty much anyone else (aside from maybe Warren Farre…
/r/MensRights13/11/15 12:20 AM

Men are probably naturally more violent, what with the link between testosterone and violent behaviour. The problem is more that male violence is not condoned and heavily punished, whereas female violence is more often seen as justified no matter what the reason is.

Business is more profitable. (Well yeah, the more you flood the labour market the less employers can pay and more they can profit. The more competition for jobs the better businesses will do.)Governments are more representative. (Good good)Families are stronger, and communities are healthier. ("who gives a fuck about facts and statistics?") There is less violence - and more peace, stability and sustainability. (correlation=/= causation)
/r/MensRights12/11/15 11:57 PM

Yeah, they're fringe views. The most important sound bites from that Abrams talk were "Dan is still single" and "Dan was a playa". If you think an actual matriarchy or for that matter a patriarchy are a good idea, then the MRM probably isn't the right place for you.
/r/MensRights12/11/15 12:34 PM

I really don't think it is 'so many', no matter how you define that. it's quite a niche concern. The feminists probably thought it was a trap to make them say "a matriarchy would be great" so you could label them female supremacists. I'd be surprised if you could find 10 similar articles advocating for a matriarchy written by men. Or anyone same for that matter. What do you think though?
/r/MensRights11/11/15 11:05 PM

You can tell just by the response to men's rights in general how people feel about men talking about their feelings. The MRM is in essence MRM talking about how they feel about things and being labelled cry babies. Basically, men can talk about their feelings, so long as their feelings are that they are being poisoned by their own masculinity and unable to talk about their problems. No matter how you look at it it is retarded. "Men kill themselves because they don't talk about their feelings, th…

I don't really think either a matriarchy or a patriarchy are good or enforceable ideas. If you try to oppress half the population then that half won't be at all productive. Your quote should read: The people can choose to vote for the status-quo in traditional patriarchal political parties and continue to allow competitive minded men rule our world. Or they can vote for a Matriarchal party and allow competitive minded women to rule instead. The idea that having women in top political positions c…

Yeah she is. She was on a BBC doc where she said something to the effect of "the answer is simple and free, just talk about it." I don't know why that didn't help the 60% of suicide victims who were in treatment when they killed themselves. I think CALM is entirely ineffective as they will never acknowledge that things are being done to men that drive them to the edge, and instead see it as a problem inherent to masculinity (in spite of the fact that suicide is increasing and masculinity is a co…

Nothing bad has ever happened to a man walking down the street at night. Yeah, the best solution is not the easiest. It's amazing how scared some people are of men getting together and talking about their concerns. It's fine if it's one on one with a therapist who can reframe these concerns in a more socially acceptable way, but an uncensored space like this one, where men could actually get angry and effect change is a nightmare. This is on the whole a good sign. The need for change is shown by the sheer resistance to it. It's still so dangerous to take these discussions of the Internet and into the real worl…

I suffer from depression and have contacted my GP. Been waiting for 7 months to see a counsellor. Even then, 60% of the men who commit suicide have already seeked help. It seems clear to me that we live in a society that views men to be completely surplus to requirements. It's hard to treat men for suicidal thoughts when their reasons for being depressed are all perfectly reasonable. When the question of a debate on men's issues is literally laughed at, can you honestly blame us for feeling a bi…

I just found a website advocating for a rape by deception law that made the stipulation that changes to appearance should not be punishable.
/r/MensRights04/11/15 06:19 PM

I do actually have some sympathy for this if we are to take rape to mean any sex without informed consent. It would mean that literally everyone is a rapist and had been raped. I'm sure that I've lied to a girlfriend at some point before having sex with them. For example, If I get a text from an ex that I ignore and say it was from somebody else, then it could be said that my girlfriend wouldn't be giving informed consent for a few days, as if I told the truth she'd be needlessly pissed off for …
/r/MensRights04/11/15 05:39 PM

The problem is much larger than Leah Green, who is a friend of a friend and herself regards the documentary as tasteless propaganda. From what I've heard of her, working on her own she'd more likely than not want to make a fair documentary. She got chosen to do this after making another documentary about sexism that I'm told was a lot more balanced. So perhaps she shouldn't be too strongly scapegoated for this car crash of a doc, when it was clearly just an attempt to compile as much sexist shit…

She made it quite clear in the show that that was one of the factors. She said you had to consider whether the victim had consented and then whether the perpetrator had reason to believe they had consented. Then she said the most damning evidence was the text the guy sent saying "she wasn't into it, but whatever" as this demonstrated that he had reason to believe there wasn't consent. So it was more clear on the actual show.

The show was actually pretty good, and was based on educating rather than blaming. When I watched it I was thinking it was a clear rape by legal and moral definition, and some of the views from both camps surprised me. However, It was good to note that nobody thought he'd done nothing wrong and that the only concern was that "rape" had too broad a definition.
/r/MensRights04/11/15 02:18 AM

Might be a bit harsh to chastise any feminist who hasn't attended a women's day debate at Westminster palace.
/r/MensRights03/11/15 09:34 PM

To be fair they asked both genders and both demonstrated a similar level of unserstanding. It did show that consent should be included in the national sex ed curriculum, as the legal definitions seem a bit lost on everyone.

I think it is legal because it is an all girls school. I don't know the law in the U.S. but in the UK you're allowed to set up schools and unis by gender, then charge whatever they want. If they admitted both men and women and only charged the men, then that should be illegal. It may well be sexual contact, the problem comes when you include everyone under 18 who has had their ass fondled and children who have been severely abused. Such a stat tells you very little about the amount of children in serious danger. When I was 15/16 I remember being groped at house parties, it hasn't had the long lasting effect I'd imagine stemming from sexual assault from an adult.

By accepting that abortion is the choice of the person bearing the child, you can't make somebody have an abortion or make somebody carry a baby to term. People should be encourage to consult with the father, but you can't give the father any legal rights without impeding the rights of the mother. Pro choice for women is supported by the forced labour of men. You can't possibly tell women they can do whatever they want without having men there ready to either pick up the bill or support the decision not to have a child. You're not at all off. Reproductive rights are a big deal for the MRM. Unfortunately Western society seems way off even beginning this conversation.

Thanks! My period is mostly Victorian England. John Tosh is very good, and he kinda led the trend towards including masculinity in social history. Bias is hard to gauge but he at least seems balanced. Julie Marie Strange has written about men in the family well. Just think as critically as you can and try not to have preconceived notions. It's best not to think, "they are a feminist, therefore I need to see how the are wrong," but better to take every claim in isolation and think about it removed from the ideology. Feminist claims do tend to be fairly good to practice on, as they logical holes are fairly glaring. With statistics you will see a lot of stacked charts/studies. You benefit from it generally being considered a handsome look on a woman. I don't think your average "ginger Joe" gets that. It's pretty full on in the UK. Think it stems from anti-Celtic sentiments. Here's an article about Ginger Jihadi's: http://www.breitbart.com/london/2014/09/09/ginger-jihadis-why-redheads-are-attracted-to-radical-islam/

Yeah, it is a mixed bag. And I don't think you should mock victims of any crime. But humour is messy, and the line is difficult to define. The ginger thing is a whole different kettle of fish, society is nowhere near accepting just how damaging that particular breed of bullying is. People joke about heavy subjects to make them more palatable and to break their power. That's why gallows humour is so prevalent during wars and conflict. It's not that you don't take the threat of having a bomb dropped on you seriously, its just a coping mechanism. It is very easy to simultaneously joke about something whilst taking something seriously. Actually acknowledging male rape as a problem would do a lot more than having people stop joking about it.

The caveat that it was seasoned male troupes against newly qualified women may be important. There shouldn't be any barrier to women joining front line roles, the only stipulation is that they can fulfil the exact same physical demands as a male soldier. Legally, the choice has to be all of the person who is carrying the baby. It is for the individual mother to decide how much influence the father can have on the decision. A woman should be able to choose not to have a child, to have a child and keep it or to have a child and offer it for adoption. The father's rights should be the same as the mother's rights after the baby has been born. He should have to agree to fatherhood as a woman agrees to motherhood. I don't think it is a call for quotas. I think that it is a problem that is kinda on the way to being sorted, but I don't see any harm in a Lord talking about it. Miriam O'Reilly won a tribunal for ageism so it is mostly about ageism, and it does happen to female presenters more than male. So no, I'm not in favour of quotas. I am in favour of people calling out discrimination against men and women on the basis of gender where it exists.

It's a bit pathetic. It is kind of the nature of the beast now that these faux pas very easily blow up. And it is unfair and disproportionate, I've just read Jon Ronson's book about public shaming on the internet and it is ruinous. I just don't think the narrative should be "you can't even tell prospective employees they're the best looking potential employee anymore." It's not in the spirit of fairness and equality that I associate with the MRM.

I really don't think this is something we should be getting too wound up about. If I sent my CV off to a female boss or contacted her on LinkedIn and she said I was stunning then I think I'd be pretty put out. It's not very professional and basically relegates your career prospects to second billing over your physical appearance. It's not a man's right to make inappropriate comments in a professional setting to the extent that equality before the law and bodily integrity are men's rights.
/r/MensRights09/09/15 12:21 PM

Men are already excluded from so much, it just gives reason for more of that if women are excluded from places. I think its fine with clubs if that's what you want to do, freedom of association and all that. But if you're offering a service then I don't think you should be allowed to discriminate on any grounds.
/r/MensRights09/09/15 05:10 AM

There's just no capacity for nuanced thought at some universities now. Why can't the tutors teach literature from both sides and let the students make their own minds up? Some professors seem to think of the students as their own children they can prescribe their own ideology to and mould them into their own image, and the ones who don't think that are too liberal to do some that crass.

Females were more highly represented among students taking up income-contingent loans, as well as Indigenous, rural, isolated, mature-aged and low socioeconomic status students. Females were under-represented among high socioeconomic status students, and more highly represented in less prestigious suburban and regional universities. Almost as if young poor men don't have the same scope of choice as young poor women, and have to go work at a younger age, whilst simultaneously getting bashed for e…

I still can't believe that there's a male suicide charity run by feminists who believe that men kill themselves at higher rates than women because "they don't talk abut their emotions like women." If that was true, suicides would not have spiked since the 1950s. The reason for high male suicide is the same expectations are placed on men as they were in the 1950s and all the tools to achieve those expectations have been eroded. You're still a loser if you don't earn enough money, still a deadbeat…

They're not, its just something that gets repeated over and over by morons. They're taxed at the lowest rate possible set by the EU at 5%. There's no such thing as a luxury tax, hasn't been for decades. EDIT: Incidentally, I don't understand why they don't just make them available on the NHS. Well it is a combination. Suicide rate is increasing. So whilst it is good that everything else has dropped, suicide is still going up. You also have to be careful with these sort of claims because you can make anything "the leading cause" by how you group deaths. If you look at how the ONS compiles data (http://www.ons.gov.uk/ons/rel/vsob1/mortality-statistics--deaths-registered-in-england-and-wales--series-dr-/2012/sty-causes-of-death.html) you can see that cancer is broken down into various d…

It is astounding that I'm more likely to kill myself than die in a road accident. Still, when we compare to global trends it looks good, when you compare to historic trends it looks bad. Some local authorities are awful with mental health. Having come out of a DV situation I went to the GP and I've been waiting 6 months to see a counselor. In the city 10 miles away, my friend was seen within two weeks.
/r/MensRights06/09/15 10:30 PM

Women spend more time with their kids due to fucked up court systems and ideologues making out that being a single-mother is easy. So it is expected that most abuse is perpetrated by the mother when so many fathers struggle to see their kids. We've put mothers in such a difficult situation by letting this happen, and it is the children who suffer.
/r/MensRights06/09/15 09:27 AM

I've had some bother on that thread as well, just pointing out that women's higher attempted suicide rate is most likely due to parasuicidal (suicidal gesture) behaviour being significantly more common in women. Apparently some people think I'm wrong and it's just that women use less effective methods, but they really want to die just as much as men, if not more! Presumably due to life being so damn oppressive for women. I just don't get why some people can't just look at the facts and statistic…

Yes, they should. I'd imagine that it is probably automated so that the child support people are informed when somebody leaves prison and then they try to recoup the money. I imagine the figure would have been added to his compensation amount. It's most likely that the state has paid, it will just be inter departmental bureaucracy.
/r/MensRights04/09/15 09:04 PM

Talk to a lawyer. Keep and double record all messages. Record all phone calls. Record all conversations. And you really should consider leaving. You can't maintain a relationship with somebody who falsely accuses you of serious crimes. The only possible way to maintain a relationship with a BPD person would be if they were highly committed to some serious therapy. Most of them have no interest in getting help though. And even then, I'd never go back there again, it destroys you. READ THIS!: http…

I thought there was more about it than there was! Was sure I first saw it on BBC. Now there's only two articles with that quote in it. Scotland is much worse: http://www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2015/jan/26/scottish-government-women-prison-uturn “It does not fit with my vision of how a modern and progressive country should be addressing female offending.” Because men and women are subject to different laws. Because of equality... or whatever... shutthefuckup.
/r/MensRights04/09/15 10:44 AM

The pricing should be based on style rather sex. So if a woman wants a barber cut, she shouldn't be charged a long cut price. With the gym membership, it is the exact same service provided. Often a better service for women if they have separate facilities on top of the main gym. It is covered under the equality act of 2010 that you can't offer the same service at different prices to people based on phenotype. So the law is quite clear. With haircuts, the services are demonstrably different, ther…

Cyclists do tend to also be tax payers. They tend not to damage roads to the point where they need repairing. They reduce congestion. They reduce emissions. They reduce health expenditure on their healthy bodies. As an average tax payer you can scoot on down to the shops on your bike, causing zero emissions and get healthy at the same time.

Not until 2020. And vehicle excise duty is still currently adjusted depending on your rate of emissions. Yeah, but when you see other drivers talking on their phone or breaking the law you don't chase them down, try to run them off the road, wind your window down and berate them. You're not trying to win them over, you're trying to convince the neutral onlookers. So use language that achieves this aim. Unfortunately, the 'lock your front door' approach to rape prevention isn't particularly valid to a majority of rapes as they tend to occur in the midst of otherwise fairly mundane social situations. "Don't…

It is really irritating when you pose a deliberately exaggerated hypothetical situation to demonstrate a principle with a logical conclusion and the response is along the lines of "Also your example is so completely unrealistic, it's practically a joke." It seems to happen a lot and is really just a derailing technique in order to avoid addressing the example and following the logical progression. If I'm being critical I'd say that you could show more appreciation of the complexity of the issue …

This does happen semi-regularly. Mark Adkins of Guttermouth had a similar incident as did Afroman. The adrenaline and lights when you're onstage make it very hard to make good judgments when somebody is coming at you and in none of those three cases did the performer instigate first contact. With Mark Adkins some girl actually jumps on stage and punches him and it's supposed that he isn't supposed to defend himself, and then he got the crud kicked out of him by his own fans.

I think they could definitely do something with the general marketing of books and just abandon the whole notion of 'chick-lit'. I'm sure there are some great contemporary female authors who I'm missing out on due to my assumption that I can't tolerate the style or subject matter. I do remember on my creative writing course that my tutor--a published female author--was coaching the mostly female class into using all sorts of unnecessary adjectives and other gender signifiers that I find basicall…

I don't think it is an idea that should totally be dismissed, but it is a very limited survey. I'm not at all surprised though. The problem comes from the fact that agents want to make money, and they know that male authors sell better due to the fact that a male writing style is more acceptable to women than a female writing style is to men nd so finds wider readership. They read a shit-tonne of manuscripts with their primary consideration being 'will this make money?' I don't know how to fix t…

You can do what you want. A lot of MGTOW is really good in terms of self-reliance and personal progression. Some of the more extreme stuff I'e heard just sounds like anti-woman pop psychology. I don't really see the MRM's primary purpose to be fighting feminism, it's just unfortunate that feminist organisations directly impedes helping male victims of domestic violence ans sexual assault in a lot of cases. Erm, I think that both ruining lives and ruining the credibility of genuine victims are bad. Pretty demonstrative of Jezebels mindset, Men's Rights bat for men, Feminism bats for women; not, 'you can consider both injustice to men and women as injustice'.

It's about sanitary products though. Although it is a niche concern it is still good that they are doing something to help people. It would be like complaining about us not mentioning female victims when we discuss male domestic homicide victims.

Becoming pregnant from a rape isn't a situation I'll ever likely find myself in, I can't imagine it being great. The options once in that situation are abortion, adoption or raise the child. Personally, I think an 18yo girl carrying a fetus to term rather than aborting when they are not financially or emotionally ready for the commitment and with the intention of providing a family with a baby is a pretty badass thing to do.

Holy fuck that is a horrible song. The manager may not necessarily be a feminist simply from that reaction. If the story is true, then he has a fairly callous attitude towards his mother's situation, if it's untrue then it is just really horrible. Still though, he's well within his rights to test taste boundaries at a comedy club, and it is clearly designed to be incredibly uncomfortable and offensive. Your argument is so tenuous. It's seems to be basically, "Leg braces are an infringement upon bodily integrity, as is circumcision. Leg braces are better than no leg braces, ergo infringements upon bodily integrity aren't that big a deal and circumcision is fine." What is your argument? That no level of infringement upon bodily integrity should remain out of the hands of the parent? That anything can be done if it is believed to be in the best interests of the child?

inviolability of the physical body Removing something from a body is clearly more of a violation than a temporary brace. One is permanent, the other is not. Male infant circumcision is also preventative. I have exposed your double standard. I don't see how you're having trouble with this. The brace is targeted at high risk individuals. …

Well, bodily integrity is the right for a person to choose what happens to their own body, right? Nope, not really. Integrity refers to being whole and undiminished. Bodily autonomy would be what you're looking for. Taking something physical from a baby is not the issue here. I think quite a few intactivists would disagree. Personally, I think that is pretty much the entire issue. but the bone shift is permanent, painful, irreversible, and without the consent of the baby. Yeah. But is only done …

There's difference between "no benefit" and "can live without." The function of the appendix is more unconfirmed than useless. This is irrelevant anyway as the foreskin has multiple functions. How on earth do leg braces alter your bodily integrity in any way? They don't take anything from you, they are a direct treatment to a recognized issue. It's not like leg braces are permanently grafted onto the legs of all babies 'just in case'. Teenagers are still capable of doing some pretty stupid shit. I am a bit torn. It's like that guy at the AVfM conference who overheard his teenage daughter cooking up a false rape accusation to get back at some guy, she didn't fully understand the consequences of her actions. I've always been of the opinion that if you're under-18, you get a chance, if you don't learn from your youthful indiscretions than you can do some jail time later. She did a very stupid thing to hurt somebody under provoca…

There are far more things that I am concerned about above some film. Artists and producers can make any film they want and consult anybody they want. To be honest, there's not much talk about media here anyway. Maybe if there's a really tired DV trope being trotted out in something, but there seems very little point in bitching about a work of fiction somebody has created. So I don't agree with him either. I don't really see it as propaganda, if I was making a film and I wanted to create a stron…

Just checked and the age of criminal responsibility in Sweden s 15. So I stand somewhat corrected. I'm all for pursuing false reporters of any crime, but I'm not sure a custodial sentence for someone under the age of 18 would be suitable in this case. I don't think the actions of a child are likely to be as malicious as an adult.

I think if he'd filmed it and not shown all of his mates he'd have been fine. We don't know the entire story though. They're both only teenagers, it may be that they had sex, he showed the video around, she stupidly explained it away as a 'rape' and told the police to get back at him. They're both idiots of equal proportion, it seems odd that money is changing hands. They should have just both been told to stop being stupid teenagers.

Just to start off I think that some 'safe spaces' are absolutely fine. Obviously at a sexual violence support group having people start a debate about rape culture probably isn't constructive. The fact that rape sometimes occurs without the rapist realizing that they have done anything wrong does not in any way suggest that we live in a rape culture. Just because something has happened does not mean that our society is saturated with people who have a limited understanding of consent. Marxism was bespoke and influential. Everyone from George Eliot onwards was aware of the communist manifesto and Das Capital and therefore it is appropriate to study texts in regard to it. Like almost every other book, then, “So You’ve Been Publicly Shamed” would probably have been handled better by a woman. You can challenge feminism without simple retorting "women aren't as clever as men and are not suited to xyz." You can't challenge a 20th Century ideology with a redundant 18th Century one. This has no relevance to the underlying philosophy of feminism. Read "The Second Sex", a child could form a better counter argument to it than this. This essay represents an alternate viewpoint Yep, one from 200 years ago. Read Warren Farrell if you want a modern and slightly more nuanced appraisal of gender.

Again, like with anything, you can't just use a dictionary definition as it doesn't always encompass a word's entire usage. Misogyny tends to be used as a gender-specific term analogous to racism, anti-Semitism etc... for somebody who holds prejudicial views about women. If you'd prefer, you can just call it sexist.

she is not intended for either too much mental or too much physical work for the simple reason that they themselves are childish, foolish, and short-sighted so for the most part does a woman lose her beauty after giving birth to one or two children; and probably for the same reasons. That's true. I've been ranting all day about the "men just need to talk more, y'know... like women"TM magic cure for suicidal thoughts. But not all men are the same, talking therapies are great for some, less effective for others. And if you're severely depressed, getting to a doctor and getting treatment is a really good idea. One of the things I've noticed on AMR is that they're equating "don;t talk to your SO" with don't do anything about it. Which is fucking retarded.

I'm not sure that there is anything really barring you from working with children. I've done work experience in primary schools and everyone was cool with me looking after the kids (again i the UK). If somebody doesn't give you a job due to your gender that is more likely an exception as opposed to the rule. I've had a girlfriend lie about being sexually assaulted just because. Oddly enough, most people who lie about being sexually assaulted don't go to the police about it. Why would she be offended? It has been the same in the UK for decades, it's a really odd one and I don't know how it has survived so long. The retirement age for women is going up 1 year in every 2 until it matches up now. It's just mad that it is included on a day where they're trying to encourage girls into fields they're under-represented in. There are courses in the UK where it is a 90/10 split.

Completely agree with this. When I read the article I thought it was highly likely that these people are being included with the intent to inflate the statistics. It's like with the 1 in 4 stat where the definition of sexual assault was broadened out to include basically everyone. I bet within 6 months there'll be articles citing these statistics and stating that we have an FGM epidemic.

It's just the way the British system works. They were married and a had a child. She raised the child allowing him to pursue his professional goals, goals that are practically unachievable for single mothers with no dollar. Her contribution to the business has been assessed by the looks of it at around the 0.5% mark and she is getting a payout to reflect that. He couldn't afford to help her then, he really can afford to help her a small amount now.

Yeah, but he wouldn't have been able to set up the company at that time and make the aforementioned shittonne of money if he was full time looking after his son for another 3 years. She's getting less than 1% for her contribution. It seems relatively fair recompense for the work that she took on that allowed him the time to form a successful business.

To be honest, it doesn't sound like the marriage has much to do with it. She looked after the kid allowing him to make a shittonne of money. 1% of his fortune seems fair enough.

It's one thing being 'forced' into a gender role, it's another when you are systematically discriminated against by law. Which I guess isn't something spoken about too much in Gender Studies. The other thing I notice when feminists talk about males being forced into gender roles is that they term the expected behaviours of men as 'toxic masculinity'. Historically transgressive. Victorian values would dictate reference to female genitalia extremely taboo, and such habits die hard. This is working on the assumption that there are only white and Asian people in the UK. You have to take into account all non-whites and all non-asians as potentially being responsible for the 55000 plus 126826 attacks. If you approximate the figures as 60,000,000 non-asian and 10,000,000 non-white, then 0.21% of non-asians are perpetrators and 0.55% of non-whites are perpetrators (assuming you can only be responsible for one attack). It's even worse when they think they've been given some sort of magic immunity to HIV and other STDs. Saw the other day that HIV rate in USA is higher than in Europe. Surely you'd think that that was a large enough sample size to show that cutting isn't particularly effective in stopping AIDS.

The amount of importance is quite debatable. I'm not saying it's useless, but it certainly isn't essential. A lot of stuff isn't essential, but do provide an evolutionary benefit. Ear lobes aren't essential, you aren't allowed to cut those off your children. You can lose a finger or two, and probably several toes before it would affect your general functioning. Not allowed to chop those off either. We have foreskins for a reason. The certainly lend an evolutionary advantage. Why? Why leave peopl…

Why would chopping off their eyelids be abhorrent? Or little fingers? Or whatever you've decided they don't need for whatever reason. You wouldn't chop anything else off, but you've been socialized into thinking that the foreskin is fair game. It is abhorrent because you are removing an important piece of anatomy for no good reason and without permission. As for the not knowing bit, probably best just to leave the penises alone and let the person decide for themselves. If not having a foreskin i…

Aaaaand, how do you know they'd prefer to be cut? Not mutilating a baby's genitals is not an alternative, it is the norm for most of the developed world. It's great that you prefer not having a foreskin, it is abhorrent to force that choice onto another human being.

You do understand that your opinion does not dictate fact, right? There are people on this thread talking about how much MGM has negatively affected their lives. I really don't get your problem. re: getting over oneself. I'm not the one going onto discussions to derail them. Because WAAAAAHH THIS DOESN'T MATTER TO ME AND EVERYTHING HAS TO BE ABOUT ME. Think you'll find that a lot of people in the MRM regard it as mutilation. Sorry. There's really not a vast lot you can do about it. MGM is important. It affects many people. It only happens to men. Men die unnecessarily from the procedure. It ruins men's lives. Seems the exact sort of thing the MRM should …

It's pretty indicative of societies shitty treatment of men. Going at baby boys with a knife? Not really giving a fuck how they might feel about it? The fact that there is even a debate over circumcision shows that there is a general disregard for males. It effects pretty much every man in America. Either you have part of your penis chopped off for no valid reason. Or you're shamed for having unmodified genitals. From an outside perspective, it is incredibly fucked up.

People come to the MRM for different reasons, and everyone has different priorities. From your perspective, MGM doesn't seem like too big a deal. Personally, I find the mass mutilation of boys penises really upsetting. It should be a basic human right for people to leave your junk alone and effects a vast number of men around the globe. Personally, it's my main point of interest in the MRM, but I'd never derail another conversation with it. ("Yeah, it's shit that people don't get to see their ki…

Nope. But I don't think race would make quite as much of a difference as gender when it comes to danger. Accepting that there is a fraction of the male population who are dickwads, and that that fraction may be drawn to providing an unregulated liftshare service, isn't casting the entire male population in a negative light.

Its really not kool-aid thinking though, is it? Are you saying that taking rides with strangers is without risk? I don't use unlicensed cabs because the chances of being mugged/done over are significantly higher than in a licensed cab. Unlicensed cab drivers aren't a representative sample of the male population. People who like mugging/assaulting other people are drawn to the occupation as it is an easy way to isolate (usually drunk) people in a controlled and relatively private environment. Cat…

This doesn't seem like too big a deal. I'm guessing that the drivers don't have to undergo any vetting process. Taxi drivers (at least in the UK) have to have a criminal record check before they can get their license. These drivers could be anybody, and the scheme could attract some proper dickwads. It could be a vulnerable situation. Something really needs to be done about plea deals. You shouldn't be able to put so much pressure on an innocent person to admit to a crime they didn't commit. There was a story a few weeks ago about a girl at Notting Hill Carnival who 'defended' herself by pushing a guy who groped her.
