Reddit: Sex work should be legalized! We support sex workers! AskReddit: Would you ever date a sex worker? Reddit: No, not like that! And look, I don’t think sex workers should be shamed (but let’s face reality, they always will be) nor that they should be punished by the legal system. However, sex work should not be glamorized or pushed as a viable career to young girls (a la “make an OF when you’re 18 and earn $$$!”). A job should not put you at risk for STDs, rape, or murder. There’s no OSHA …

I get what you mean. She wrote in her memoir that she was motivated to pursue her career because of that prenup. However, even though “his family” made her sign it, he 100% backed that shit up. Her prenup could have allowed spousal support, but Ali straight up said she would have been FUCKED if she dropped out of the workplace and they got divorced. And prenup or no prenup, $70k student loans was a bomb waiting to blow up in his face.

Honestly, good for her. While I was watching her first special, I literally went WTF at the part where she only found out about her husband’s 70K student loans WHILE THEY WERE TRYING TO GET A MORTGAGE. That 70K had to be paid off before they could get approved, hence why she used her savings to pay it off ASAP. That’s shit she should have been told BEFORE marriage! Not to mention, the student loans were HIS responsibility to pay off since she signed a prenup! It’s kinda funny that the prenup end…

Haha, are you Chinese? (Kidding.) I think parents having certain financial expectations of their potential son-in-law is fair. That’s having their daughter’s best interests in mind. They don’t want their daughter facing a lifetime of poverty and financial hardship because she married a broke, unemployed loser. They want their potential grandchildren to grow up in a stable household with all their needs met. A stable job, a car, and (maybe) a house are standard expectations. Finally, expecting th…

Yeah, this advice goes for both men and women: don’t marry a financially irresponsible person. Yes, there are people that hide it well, but most of them are pretty obvious about it, like spending money they don’t have.

Her demands are commonplace in China. To be perfectly honest, some women demand more. One city capped dowries at $7450. That is USD! $7450 is 47,000 RMB in a country where the average salary in 2020 was around 97,000 RMB, or $15,300. Some families will specifically save money to help their sons pay these dowries. There’s no welfare or social safety net in China, so not taking finances into consideration when choosing a partner can, in a worst-case scenario, lead to being homeless and starving in…

There's being a supportive girlfriend, and then there's....this. What does he do for her other than being a future doctor? She's investing her time, money, and effort into potential...that isn't locked down yet because they're not married. I guess we'll see if he stays with her when he finishes residency and finally gets that doctor income.

Even if we gave him the benefit of the doubt and assumed his intentions were good and innocent and he just wanted to help a coworker out, there’s something called boundaries. I personally would NEVER live with a coworker as a roommate. What if they’re a terrible roommate or a terrible coworker? Imagine having to see the same person at work and at home. My coworkers are all around ten years older than me, and I’m not even friends with them outside of work.

She's making 200k on OnlyFans, but there's no 401k, health insurance, PTO, life insurance, career progression, transferable job skills... The gravy train is going to run out one day (when she ages and starts losing her looks). What if OnlyFans goes bankrupt? Maybe she'll be lucky and make enough for a long time, but after that, what is she going to do? Even if she saves every penny of her earnings and buys a lot of stock, it still might not be enough for retirement. She has no degree, no work ex…

Eh, I wouldn’t put any celebrity on a pedestal. Success does not equal high value. She’s an entertainer, so honestly anything in her standup should be taken with a grain of salt. I found her specials funny, and am super happy for her success, and that’s about it, really.

In my opinion, she’s somewhere in the middle (relationship-wise). She and her husband got married after 5 years of dating, and she talks about pressuring him to propose in her standup. So, she was on her way to forever-girlfriend territory, but she didn’t buy property or have kids before marriage like a lot of forever girlfriends. She has a joke about packing her husband’s lunch every day so he would be dependent on her, but we all know LVM would just take it for granted. She talked about dating…

6 months is way too early to be planning serious financial decisions with your boyfriend like buying a home or splitting mortgage costs. Even if your boyfriend and you were to come to an agreement now, either of you could change your minds later or the relationship could come to an end before the agreement comes into play. Who knows what things will be like in a year or two? What you need to do is look at your situation, take your boyfriend out of consideration, and consider what you could or wa…

This is hysterical to me. 50/50 in Asian culture? B*tch, where!? In China, men at minimum must have a house, a car, and a stable job in order to find a woman that will marry them (in most cases). Often times, the bride also expects a gift of money ( a 'bride price') to either herself or her parents. Bruh, bride prices got so high at point that one Chinese city had to set a cap of $7k. Can you imagine this ever happening in the West? https://www.nytimes.com/2011/04/15/world/asia/15bachelors.html …

I would have a discussion with your boyfriend about your thoughts on his friends. I don’t think you need to explicitly ask him to cut them out since you said that you yourself have LVM/pick me friends you haven’t completely cut off yet. Just see what his thoughts are and encourage him to spend more time with his new friends.

Consider your household income and savings, and work out a reasonable budget for a wedding and ring. NEVER go into debt over a wedding or a ring. If your dream wedding is really out of your budget (and by a doable amount), then either save up or downsize. If it's extravagantly out of your budget, then yes, you may need to adjust your expectations. The problem with pickme's is that they take adjusting downwards too far. There's reasonableness, and then there's miserliness and extravagance. Both e…

If only the poor woman had invested in herself rather than this scrote. Now scrote’s new gf will reap all the benefits of her 13 years of “investment”. There’s a TikToker Miki Rai that has this same setup going on (she’s a nurse, her bf is a resident, she currently makes more money, and he has a hellish on-call schedule). She’s so smart, beautiful, and creative. Even though they look like a super happy, cute couple, I’m kinda terrified that this exact thing will happen to her.

Also why you should never marry down or be a Barb the Builder. When a LVM becomes more successful, he finds his “prospects” have improved and all of a sudden, you aren’t good enough for him anymore. Whatever help or connections you contributed to his success, it goes out the window the minute he thinks he can get a younger, hotter woman. If Jason Momoa had never landed GOT or Aquaman, he would 100% still be married.

I’m honestly a bit confused by his decision to pay for her degree in exchange for her having kids later. Like, did it not occur to him that she might want to USE her degree? Also, it sounds to me like she had doubts about having kids before she did her degree because why make that deal then? I feel like he really should have seen this coming. Yeah, what’s this “allowing” bullshit in the TikTok? Oh I know, if you answer no to all of them, you’ll be labeled a control freak. I would expect my partner to have solid boundaries when interacting with other women, that’s it. If he wants to blatantly flirt or push the line with other women, then it’s clear that I’m just a placeholder to him and I am O.U.T.

It would be lovebombing if he’s doing it to get back together with his ex-wife. But from what he wrote, he’s just doing it to set a good example for his kids and show them he still has a cordial and respectful relationship with their mother even though the romantic relationship has ended. That’s a HV action to me.

I don’t agree with this post. I actually see it as the opposite way around: MCU Peter/MJ are the HV relationship, Tobey’s Peter/Kirsten’s MJ are the LV relationship. First, to address the Raimi Spider-Man films, you left out the events of Spider-Man 3. Peter treats MJ terribly in that movie. He kisses Gwen Stacy and after MJ breaks up with him, takes Gwen to the jazz club MJ is performing at and dances with her just to spite MJ. Despite this, MJ goes back to Peter in the end. MJ does FDS approve…

Yeah, it’s not that FDS hates sex work. We hate how it’s become flippantly encouraged, with misconceptions of how easy it is to make a ton of money and idealized notions of it being pushed so that young women don’t look deeper into the dark side of sex work before they jump in. We’re not talking about the women that do sex work as a Hail Mary and it’s the only option they have left because they’ve hit rock bottom. We’re talking about people like the 17-year-olds that can’t wait until they turn 1…

For dates, I think sticking to the "person who asks for the date pays for it" rule is a good bet, but for a lesbian relationship, the both of you should take turns planning dates. Some of the logic that goes into FDS principles doesn't apply to lesbian relationships, but definitely stick to the ones that apply to all relationships - vet for low valueness (like narcissism, laziness, etc.), make sure she gives back the same energy as you to the relationship (effort and enthusiasm!), evaluate if th…

I hate how choking during sex or “breathplay” has become so normalized through porn. It’s dangerous! How many men actually take the time to learn about the risks? Not to mention, strangulation is a strong predictor of getting murdered by an intimate partner. Any man who truly loves and cares for you will not be down with choking you!

It wasn’t a date (even as a naive-ass 18 year old, I knew dating a 30+ year old was off the table. I’d never had an actual job at that age or had to pay bills or even cook for myself, so just the completely different stages of life would have weirded me out.). Also, I was the one who suggested we hang out. So I’m not surprised about the Uber. He did pay for the Uber to the burger place and the food. Again, it was weird, and I never saw him in person again.

Yeah, not gonna lie, I made the same mistake too before I found FDS, but it wasn’t a date, it was a male “coworker” at my unpaid internship who was 10+ years older than me. I was in college, and in that part of town for an event, so I got it into my head, “why not pay him a visit?”. So I paid for an Uber both ways, met his rabbits, had a burger with him, and left. Thankfully nothing happened, but it was….weird.

Passivity = low effort. He’s not passive to be nice. He’s fine offloading all the emotional labor and mental load onto you because he doesn’t want to put in any effort. Also, is he magically incompetent at only the things he conveniently wants you to do, or is he incompetent at everything? Does he have a job? Feigned incompetence is a thing men do. By pretending he’s incapable of doing something like cooking or cleaning, he has an excuse to push it off onto a woman. And finally, stop being his m…

Going to a stranger’s apartment on a first date is serving yourself up on a gold platter to a potential rapist or serial killer. It’s also the lowest of the lowest effort. He didn’t need to leave his apartment or spend a lot of money on food. Meanwhile, you spent 1.5 hours getting there. He was pissed because he thought it’d be a cheap date until he had to pony up for your Uber ride home. OP, read the handbook again.

Man, Tsar Nicholas II and Alexandra were such a HV relationship. It’s just a shame they were shitty rulers that were executed instead of being forced into exile. Nicholas II’s grandfather, Tsar Alexander II, was a LV man that had a mistress Catherine 29 years younger than him that he met when she was 12. I’m guessing that she was fine with doing everything and letting him be lazy back when they had 0 kids. Then the first kid came, and her workload increased while her husband missed the signal to step up. Then the 2nd, and the husband still didn’t change. Texting him back after blocking him is a big yikes and definitely not FDS at all. ANY contact with an ex after a breakup is a big no-no. Like, yeah, what kind of outcome did you expect? He hadn’t changed, big surprise there! I get that it’s satisfying to “shut him down”, but attention is attention to a scrote, and you’ve just shown him he still lives in your head. Classic “women can never win”. Man is praised for being “honest” when he wants to take things slow (just emotionally, sex is still on the table), woman that wants to go slow is “leading him on”. I think the person you're replying to has a problem with allergies being used as "the blood in the water", not the blood in the water technique itself. And honestly, she has a point. People don't take allergies seriously because there are people that fake allergies. That really sucks, and I’m sorry you have to deal with this unfortunate situation. I don’t think there’s a rule of thumb, but I think it’s fair to say, don’t be excessive and don’t give him anything that will help him turn low value. Case in point, a PS5. I find it extremely satisfying that Henry VIII didn’t leave any legitimate descendants to sit on the English throne. After six wives, he ended up with one son, Edward VI, that died at age 15 and faded into obscurity. How ironic that Henry’s daughters ended up eclipsing the son that he ruined so many people’s lives to get. Hell, Elizabeth I eclipsed Henry VIII himself. Celebrity and wealthy women are in an entirely different realm when it comes to the question of marriage. Quite frankly, most FDS advice about marriage doesn’t really apply to them. FDS advocates marriage as a statement of commitment and, more importantly, a measure of PROTECTION so that your partner will not be able to leave you in the cold suddenly one day. This is why it takes years, not months, before men are even in the running for the HVM label. No, the guy you’ve been dating for 6 months is not a HVM. He may not be a ZVM (zero value) or a NVM (negative value), but he’s got a long way to go and a lot of vetting before earning the HVM label. Men can put up a mask for YEARS. YEARS. It’s a disservice to yourself to be so quick to think of your partner as a HVM when the classic abuser handbook is to pretend to be a HVM to reel you in, then start de…

You may not have the education or experience for a white collar desk job, but don’t sell yourself short. Work ethic, grit, and reliability are all you need to get started. Get a job driving, cooking, cleaning, or housekeeping, be a nanny, etc., anything that doesn’t require a degree, and use it as a stepping stone to the life you really want - independent and beholden to no one except yourself, earning your own money, and spending it however you damn like.

You should not be dating for a very long time. You need to get you and your kids independent first, and then go to therapy. Otherwise, you’ll probably end up with another abuser and go through hell ALL over again. Do you have a regular job? Your own income + savings is the way out. Once all your kids are old enough to go school, I would go for housecleaning/housekeeping jobs. See if you’re eligible for any welfare or food stamps. Have the divorce papers been signed yet? Once you’re divorced, if …

I’m so sorry this happened to you. No wonder FDS tends to be ruthless (example: dumping a man that you suspect is cheating even when you don’t have hard proof). Because women always know in their gut. Giving the benefit of the doubt just lets men hurt you more. What a POS. OP, read the handbook. READ THE HANDBOOK. Get rid of all the lingering pickme behaviors. Explaining how much you care about your health and how you’re faithful and giving him a speech and all that did not and will never make h…

Not going to lie, I would personally not date a cop. You can search FDS for why we generally avoid them. Talking about kids and marriage is not a first date topic, but I think after a couple months, it's fine to start a discussion. Since you're unsure about kids, now's a good time to see if your boyfriend is dead set on them. If your boyfriend is dead set on kids, tread carefully because once you take the leap, you can't go back. I think best case scenario your boyfriend is fine either way (kids…

Ok, I know FDS has plenty to say about forever girlfriends, but getting engaged after 2 weeks and married at 6 months ain't it either. 2 years is a reasonable milestone to get engaged, not 2 weeks. Moving that fast is just as much of a red flag as waiting 10 years for a ring. I suspect a lot of lovebombing at the start of the relationship. Even LVM can exhibit HVM behaviors. Not living together until marriage is a great thing and is the recommended FDS way, but not when it's used to justify gett…

In most states, your inheritance is not considered marital property unless you do something with it that makes it joint property: put it into a joint bank account, use it to pay off joint debt, buy a house with it, buy jointly owned assets with it. Google it for your state. If you get married, get a prenup anyway and get everything clarified by a lawyer. See, if you’re a low earner, the prenup should protect you financially if your partner ever dumps you (default is 50/50 split of marital assets…

That’s right: when you get a job offer, negotiate. Companies will usually initially offer under what’s budgeted for the position or the lower end of the pay band. This is where your room for negotiation is. If you don’t have another offer on the table, just do one round of negotiation (initial offer, you ask for something higher, recruiter comes back to you with a no or another offer, you accept). If you do have another offer on the table, use that as leverage for perhaps multiple rounds of nego…

Poor Gabby. Just 22. Had been with her abuser since they were teens. She was too inexperienced and dug in too deep with him to know better. He might have been her first serious, long-term relationship if she got engaged that young. Sometimes, it takes experience to learn, and she never got the chance because the scrote killed her or left her to die rather than cheat or dump her. She was probably gaslit by his family as well when they lived together.

This is great! For freezing eggs, you should definitely include a costs breakdown since retrieving them is very expensive ($8k and up!) and storing them is around $500-600 A YEAR (I got these estimates from Google). Furthermore, when you choose where to store your frozen eggs, you may have to distribute them across a couple different facilities so that if the refrigeration at one fails, you don’t lose all those eggs (this has happened!). Assistive reproduction is $$$$.

I think there are a lot of useful subreddits that cover different aspects of adulting. For example, you can go to personalfinance, povertyfinance, etc. (specifically their FAQs first) to get an idea of how to manage your finances. Also, ultimately who’s the one digging for gold? He is. She makes ~30k more than him A YEAR. As he said, after they get married, “her money is our money”, so he’ll be making up the difference in less than a year. And if they divorce in a couple years and split half, he’ll definitely be up at least 20k.

I know, tech can be a minefield and the workplace experience for women can be very different depending on the team and company they end up in. I hope more women entering tech will eventually decrease the amount of hostile workplaces. I think I lucked out. All of my other coworkers are men, but they’re older, married, and have kids, plus we’re all remote.

CodeAcademy is great, but I also recommend w3schools (w3schools.com/html/default.asp). The nice thing about HTML is that it follows a mostly consistent format with opening and closing tags. If you don’t get anything right away, don’t feel discouraged! Honestly, it takes a few tries to really understand how to code on your own without following a tutorial step by step. My first try, I just copied programs out of a Java book and ran them all. One thing, HTML is technically not a programming langua…

This is why I 100% support more women in STEM. My company gives around 4 months of maternal AND paternal leave (paid!) on top of the FMLA 10 weeks for pregnancy-related disability. Tech companies have some of the best women-friendly benefits (Facebook offers 10k just for fertility benefits).

The “algorithm” doesn’t do anything without being fed data first. I wonder what your potential LVM is looking at on Instagram that the “algorithm” thinks he’ll be interested in content like that. If he’s viewing a certain type of post often, then the algorithm sees that bringing up those posts will make him more engaged. Have you seen his likes and comments? DO NOT MERGE ANY OF YOUR FINANCES TOGETHER UNTIL YOU ARE MARRIED. No, engagement is not enough. Engagement does not give you any legal protections. Take this with a grain of salt, but my advice: 1. Have your own accounts that only you can access that your paychecks go into. NEVER direct deposit your paychecks into a joint account. A joint account should only hold money for expenses. 2. If you decide to split expenses, don’t do 50/50. Do it proportionally. Add your incomes together and divide you…

Yep, proportionality matters too! A couple thousand dollars is nothing to a rich guy, so generosity can also be a double-edged sword and a red flag if it’s part of lovebombing. Ultimately, his character is the most important thing. If he is a well adjusted and stable person, then full time employment, good money management, cleanliness, neat and organized living space, etc. should flow from that.

To be fair, I’m pretty sure the main reason why employees don’t really have to give notice to employers is because of the existence of “at-will” employment in America. In an “at-will” state, your employer can fire you at any time for any reason without having to establish “just cause”. It’s an extremely shitty practice that enables toxic workplace practices that hold people’s jobs hostage. Lol as recently as 100 years ago in China, polygamy was legal, common, and “high status” because supporting multiple women and the additional children meant the man had money. Technically, he had a “main wife”, but his mistresses could be given legal status as his secondary wives or consorts (“concubines”) to be part of his household (which meant he was legally obligated to support their living expenses and children).
