Yeah, again not great plan for many, I suspect that i am older than you and at the time that I left I had a very negative outlook on the situation. I was convinced that the loss of everything, the humiliation of a failed marriage and the inability(financially) of ever entering into a new relationship would send me into despair or depression that i might never recover from.

The restraining order was for 3 years and it was renewable. When I heard the judge say that I had to immediately mentaly check out of the situation. I with back to work 30 minutes later like nothing happened. I never thought about it again and 3 months later I quit my job and moved out of state. I don't recommend this course of action as there is no turning back, but for me it was the most tolerable of all of the bad options.

I went into the hearing as a loving father about to be divorced. I left as a man with no purpose. I had 4 kids that I would not be able to raise or even see for the foreseeable future and I had to figure out what to do now.

My judge had a strong bias toward women as victims. In my case a female lawyer could have been beneficial, how much I don't know.

I have good relationships with my 2 oldest children, but they live several hours away so I don't see them regularly. I worry that I might spend my free time on my bike or reading books and in 20 years I will be mostly alone and those activities won't matter. I guess I want someone or something to affirm that I contributed. Maybe a business or other purposeful activities could fit the bill also but I haven't explored that yet.

I understand how you feel. I will be 55 soon and I enjoy being on my own but for the time being I am forcing myself to be in a relationship because I am hoping to avoid becoming self-centered and purposeless. This may be anathema in this sub but this is my motivation for now and maybe it will prove to be self destructive, just sharing my angle, not recommending it.

The miniute I realized that it was over I wanted to date. I floundered for 6 months and then got a little traction. If you are happy alone then don't waste the time, money and stress. If you need a companion then start now and don't worry about the difficulties in the process.

It's great you see it now. For 10 years I thought I was being strong and patient. What a waste of time. Move on and don't look back

What your ex or any other woman did doesn't negate 2000 years of Christian teaching. Our marriages sucked but the ideal still exists; love, honesty, sacrifice...

I was there bro and now I am in a better place. I won't say where that place is because it is different for everyone. Try to open yourself up to options that you never considered before, you are free to do something crazy. Or stupid like buying a tiny house to live in that you can pull with your green vw bug. You will have fun with it. Travel by yourself to see the pyramids or go on a safari. These things won't fix anything but will get you out of the rut and give you things to connect with your…

You are further along than I am but I can attest to the early experience in that even after 25 good years of marriage and family life it is very refreshing and exciting to change everything and live a new life.

I am moving everything to crypto, and it's a challenge. Depending on the size of your accounts it can take days or weeks to cash out because brokerages are skeptical of large wire transactions and their fraud prevention checks get triggered. I don't know the laws and they lengths that governments will go to inforce, so I will sleep better knowing that it's all out of reach. We are on the same page wrt taxes and social security. It will suck turning 65 and not being able to collect on 35 years of…

I am still early in the process, but over the course of 2 weeks, I quit my job and converted all my liquid assets to crypto. I am currently staying monthly at AirBnBs and staying mobile. I will slowly put down roots and buy a car and home, but to start it is nice to keep it simple and live where everything is safe and walkable.

It wasn't my first choice but I met a woman in Argentina and so that is where I landed. Not the best choice for low cost or to restart a career but it is new and exciting and that's what I needed now.

After I retained my high cost cordel&cordel lawyer I went on cruze control. I quickly learned that he didn't know much or didn't care. Ask questions up front that you know the answers to and see if he is on your side. Could have saved me thousands.

I made the same mistake. My lawyer thought that the judge would side with her, so I figured that there was no point in paying him to lose for me. I went in alone and naive. I was prepared to lose, but I didn't fully understand the consequences. Those 10 minutes in court changed my life, and for that reason alone, I wish I had been more serious and leveraged any help I could.

Same boat bro. I can only dream about what might have been.

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
